    Computex 2015

Realiza-se já no inicio de Junho a Computex 2015, fica aqui o topico para se colocar as noticias relativas a este evento.

Computex 2015: no more room at the inn

Computex may well be our favourite tech trade show. It's probably the one with the strongest, most healthy selection of PCs, PC components and accessories available - as well as plenty of entertaining madcap gadget nonsense. So it's good news to hear that the exhibition space is already fully booked and there's basically 'no more room at the inn'. As the Computex 2015 show is still over six months away we hope it's exhibition stand popularity is a bellwether for the PC industry.

However it's not that straight forward because, of course, Computex isn't purely about PCs. At Computex 2014 the official theme of the show was 'go mobile' and we saw a fair selection of early wearable gadgets and that kind of tech accessory. Yet PC components, including new Intel processors and associated hardware, were the stars of the show from our, and probably many other attendees', point of view.
In 2015 Computex is set to have three themes. The themes are as follows; 'networked intelligence', 'mobile applications', and 'cloud technologies and services', reports the China Times. These product areas may well have been chosen as everyone expects the Internet of Things (IoT) to take off in 2015. Additionally Computex will feature a 'Wearable Devices Zone' which will hopefully throw up a more mature and compelling set of products than the 2014 show. Again, wearables are set to boom in 2015 according to analysts.

Computex Taipei 2015 will run from the 2nd to the 6th of June 2015. We are told that the organisers have broken through the 5,000 exhibitor tally. Overall the global ICT industry is optimistic about healthy demand for its products in the coming year. Meanwhile, if any Computex organisers are reading, I'd like to get in early and suggest a theme idea for Computex 2016: 'No BS just PCs'.

The COUGAR QBX mini-ITX Gaming case has won the COMPUTEX d&i award, organized by iF

COUGAR QBX Gaming Case Receives Prestigious Award, Settles Console vs PC Debate
6th May, 2015 Taipei, Taiwan - COUGAR, leading brand in the gaming hardware market, is proud to announce today that the new COUGAR QBX Mini-ITX Gaming case is one of the award winners of COMPUTEX d&i awards 2015, organized by iF. The award has been granted in recognition of QBX's innovative design.
Obtaining this recognition is another confirmation of QBX's extraordinary value and revolutionary nature. Its support for high end graphics cards (up to 350mm long) and impressive amounts of memory (including several SSDs to maximize loading speed) as well as its superb cooling potential make QBX the ultimate gaming case. The idea of a powerful compact case with a competitive price has already generated huge amounts of expectation. This is because QBX directly eliminates the last advantage gaming consoles used to have over gaming PC: their compactness and stylish looks.
QBX is as elegant as any new generation console, it is compact enough to be placed in the living room, and can house a gaming PC much more powerful than any console on the market. QBX's elegance does not come only from its small size and looks, but also for its compatibility with slot loading ODD and its extremely efficient cable management. This means low space consumption, clean environment and freedom for placing it anywhere the user wants.
Regarding its graphics potential, with the right components installed QBX simply leaves the most powerful consoles on the market far behind. Its compatibility with high end graphics cards gives gamers the possibility of enjoying real 4K games without sacrificing, as often happens in consoles, frame rate or other key specs. Besides that, being a PC case, its components can still be updated in the future if the need arises. Finally, QBX's cooling potential keeps it safe from overheating, allowing gamers to play at ease using the most powerful components.
The prestigious award obtained by QBX and the expectation of the public makes it one of the most expected gaming-related products of this year, and justifiably so: it comes to settle once and for all the debate about which is the best gaming platform.
This revolutionary gaming case will be available starting May 2015.
COUGAR will be at COMPUTEX 2015 (Taipei, June 2nd – 6th). Find us at Booth#: J0110, Location: Floor 1, Nangang Exhibition Hall and find out more about what we have in store for the next year!

COUGAR claims to have settled the Console vs PC Debate

Case, cooler, PSU and peripheral manufacturer COUGAR has just claimed in their latest press release to have settled the "Console vs PC Debate."

A bold claim I know, so how do they justify this? Their QBX Mini-ITX gaming case (pictured) has just gathered an award in the Computex d&i 2015 rounds, explaining that this is due to its innovative design.

The self-proclaimed "revolutionary gaming case" offers users the ability to pack in several SSDs, video cards up to 350mm long and more into this small Mini-ITX chassis.

COUGAR claims this chassis to be the best alternative to a gaming console as it's small enough to fit in your lounge room entertainment unit whilst still packing the punch of your regular single-GPU gaming machine. This setup will further offer the ability to "be updated in the future if the need arises" coupled with the extra cooling available through the design when compared to the latest generation of consoles.

Do you agree with their claims? Either way it's a fairly nice looking case.

NVIDIA Shows Off Seven New G-Sync Monitors at Computex

NVIDIA indeed brought their A game to Computex this year. They’ve officially announced the base price and specs of the GTX 980 Ti, but of course that’s not all. They also unveiled seven new G-Sync capable monitors that will be available soon.

Seven new G-Sync monitors are on the horizon from Asus and Acer, comprising 1440P and even 3440x1440P.

The fantastic piece about this is that no longer does it look like manufacturers are limited to the use of TN panels in their search for refresh rate perfection using G-Sync. Now we’re going to be seeing entrants going all the way up to the 4K resolution with refresh rates higher than 60Hz. One of them is even going to end up being of the curved variety.

    Showing 1 to 7 of 7 entries
    PreviousNext

Previously, the only non TN monitors with refresh rates officially higher than 60Hz was the 240Hz capable Eizo Foris FG2421 using VA screen technology. Brightness issues and slow pixel response times kept it from becoming a powerhouse despite the novel way in which it achieved its refresh rate, however. Overclocking some panels is possible, though that can result in undesirable dropping of frames and artifacts. It also doesn’t do what G-Sync (or FreeSync for that matter) does by smoothing the frames through the novel use of the backlight.
The Acer X34 should be available in August, with others around that same timeframe.

Corsair Unleashes the Bulldog, an Upgradeable, Liquid Cooled 4K Gaming PC For The Living Room

Today at Computex, Corsair unveiled a new barebones gaming PC aimed at the living room. The compact Bulldog PC is an upgradeable barebones DIY kit that offers gamers an interesting base from which to build a living room PC capable of 4K gaming. The chassis resembles an overbuilt console in that it is a short but wide design with many angular edges and aesthetic touches including stylized black case feet and red accents surrounding the vents. A hidden panel in the lower right corner reveals two USB 3.0 ports and two audio jacks. It looks ready to fight in the next season of Robot Wars should you add a flamethrower or hydraulic flipper (heh).

The Bulldog kit consists of the chassis, motherboard, small form factor power supply, and a customized Hydro H55F series closed loop liquid CPU cooler. From there, users need to bring their own processor, RAM, and storage devices. There is no operating system included with the kit, but it, being a full PC, supports Windows, Linux, and SteamOS et al.
As far as graphics cards, Corsair is offering several liquid cooled NVIDIA graphics cards (initially only from MSI with other AIB partner cards to follow) that are ready to be installed in the Bulldog PC. Currently, users can choose from the GTX TITAN X, GTX 980, and GTX 970.
Alternatively, Corsair is offering a $99 (MSRP) upgrade kit for existing graphics cards with its Hydro H55 cooler and HG110 bracket.

The Bulldog case supports Mini ITX form factor motherboards and it appears that Corsair is including the Asus Z97I-Plus which is a socket 1150 board supporting Haswell-based Core processors, DDR3 memory, M.2 (though you have to take the board out of the case to install the drive since the slot is on the underside of the board), a single PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, four SATA 6.0 Gbps ports, and the usual fare of I/O options including USB 3.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and optical and analog audio outputs (among others).

A mini ITX motherboard paired with the small from factor Corsair H55F CPU cooler (left) and the internal layout of the Bulldog case with all components installed (right).
User purchased processors are cooled by the included liquid cooler which is a customized Hydro series cooler that mounts over the processor and exhausts air blower style out of the back of the case. The system is powered by the pre-installed 600W Corsair FS600 power supply. The PSU is mounted in the front of the system and the graphics card radiator and fan are mounted horizontally beside it. Along the left side of the case are mounts for a single 2.5" drive and a single 3.5" drive.

GPU manufacturers will be selling card with liquid coolers pre-installed. Users can also upgrade existing air cooled graphics cards with an optional upgrade kit.
The liquid cooling aspect of the Bulldog is neat and, according to Corsair, is what is enabling them to cram so much hardware together into a relatively small case while enabling thermal headroom for overclocking and quieter operation versus air coolers.
I am curious how well the CPU cooler performs especially as far as noise levels go with the compacted and shrouded design. Also, while there is certainly plenty of ventilation along the sides of the case to draw in cool air, I'm interested in how well the GPU HSF will be able to exhaust the heat since there are no top grilles.
Corsair is marketing the Bulldog as the next step up from your typical Steam Machine and game console and the first 4K capable gaming PC designed for the living room. Further, it would be a nice stepping stone for console gamers to jump into PC gaming.
    From the press release:
“Bulldog is designed to take the 4K gaming experience delivered by desktop gaming PCs, and bring it to the big 4K screens in the home,” said Andy Paul, CEO of Corsair Components. “We knew we needed to deliver a solution that was elegant, powerful, and compact. By leveraging our leading expertise in PC case design and liquid cooling, we met that goal with Bulldog. We can’t wait to unleash it on gamers this fall.”
The Bulldog DIY PC kit is slated for an early Q4 2015 launch with a MSRP of $399. After adding in a processor, memory, storage, and graphics, Corsair estimates a completed build to start around $940 with liquid cooled graphics ($600 without a dedicated GPU) and tops out at $2,250.

Keep in mind that the lowest tier liquid cooled GPU at launch will be the MSI GTX 970 (~$340). Users could get these prices down a bit with some smart shopping and component selection along with the optional $99 upgrade kit for other GPU options. It is also worth considering that the Bulldog is being positioned as a 4K gaming machine. If you were willing to start off with a 1080p setup, you could get buy with a cheaper graphics card and upgrade later along with your TV when 4K televisions are cheaper and more widespread.
At its core, $400 for the Bulldog kit (case, quality power supply, high end motherboard, and closed loop CPU cooler) is a decent value that just might entice some console gamers to explore the world of PC gaming (and to never leave following their first Steam sale heh)! It is a big commitment for sure at that price, but it looks like Corsair is using quality components and while there is surely the usual the small form factor part price premium (especially cases), it is far from obnoxious.
What do you think about the bulldog? Is it more bark than bite or is it a console killer?

Computex 2015: Corsair Hydro Series HG10 N980 and N970 GPU Cooling Brackets

Corsair has updated their lineup of liquid cooling brackets for GPUs with models supporting both GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 cards. These adapters provide an easy way to connect a Corsair liquid CPU cooler to these graphics cards, replacing the stock heatsink.

The Corsair Hydro Series HG10 N980
The new models of Hydro Series GPU bracket are easy to identify as they're based on the GPU name, with HG10 N980 for the GTX 980, and HG10 N970 for the GTX 970. But the compatibility doesn't actually end there, as there is also support for GTX TITAN X and the new GTX 980 Ti as well (presumably both from the HG10 N980).
Corsair offers this list of features for the new brackets:

    • Seamlessly pairs any Corsair Hydro Series CPU cooler to your NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card
    • Reduces GPU temperature for more overclocking headroom, providing as much as 25% clock speed increase
    • Integrated mounting bracket cools the main GPU processor without transferring heat onto other components
    • Included low-noise blower fan cools VRMs and VRAMs quietly and effectively
    • Compatible with reference design cards for NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X, GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 970, and GTX 760. See corsair.com for a full compatibility list.
    • 2-year limited warranty

The Corsair Hydro Series HG10 N970
The retail price for the new GPU brackets will be $39.99, with the HG10 N970 available in July and the HG10 N980 in August.
