Unreal Engine updated with incredibly 'realistic foliage lighting'

Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 4.7, an update that it calls "our biggest yet" that has "the power to render huge numbers of instanced objects in large worlds, beautiful rendering of leaves and foliage, HDR texture support, in-editor animation editing, along with hundreds of optimizations and improvements". It was only yesterday that we teased what a fan-made video using Unreal Engine 4 was capable of.

One of the stand out features with Unreal Engine 4.7 is the addition of the new Foliage Shading Model, which allows for light to be transmitted through grass, leaves, paper, and other materials. The result, is super realistic lighting onto foliage, as you can see in the above shot. Epic Games explains that "diffuse lighting on the opposite side of the surface becomes transmissive lighting on the side being shaded". The latest update to Epic Games' graphics engine has its foliage system updated, which is now optimized for "huge, open environments".

There are various other new tweaks and additions baked into Unreal Engine 4.7, with another notable feature being HTML5 and WebGL support (for Windows only). This means that Unreal Engine 4.7 users can package and run their games in their Web browser using binary tools that you get through the Launcher.

There are many other features and functions built into Unreal Engine 4.7, which you can check out on the Unreal Engine forums.

Imagens desse demo em 4K e sem os artefactos de compressão do youtube.

Quixel’s Jungle Environment – Direct-Feed Screenshots in Glorious 4K Resolution

Yesterday we shared a video showing off Quixel’s latest environment created with Megascans in Unreal Engine 4. As we all know, YouTube greatly degrades visuals, therefore today we are sharing the first direct feed images from that map. While Quixel’s environment is not as realistic – in terms of colours – as Crysis, it can be easily described as a true next-gen version of the first Far Cry game. Enjoy the images after the jump (be warned that each one of them is around 13MB in size)!

Epic Games makes Unreal Engine 4 free for all

Epic Games has moved away from its subscription model for Unreal Engine that it unveiled last year, where it has just announced that it is providing its graphics engine to developers for free. Yes, for nothing.

There is a slight catch, with Tim Sweeney explaining: "You can download the engine and use it for everything from game development, education, architecture, and visualization to VR, film and animation. When you ship a game or application, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. It's a simple arrangement in which we succeed only when you succeed".

This provides Epic Games with the great chance of helping the community grow, getting more and more developers to use Unreal Engine. Sweeney continues: "The past year has been a whirlwind for everyone at Epic Games. Our community has grown tremendously. The quality and variety of creative work being done has been breathtaking. When we asked people to submit their projects to be shown this year at GDC, we had the challenge of picking just 8 from over 100 finalists that were all good enough to show".

"The state of Unreal is strong, and we've realized that as we take away barriers, more people are able to fulfill their creative visions and shape the future of the medium we love", added Sweeney. He finished with "That's why we're taking away the last barrier to entry, and going free".

    Trailer de features do UE4

    Boas!
    Arrisco-me a dizer que UE4 ganhou a batalha dos motores Next Gen, batendo o CryEngine e o Unity 5.

A qualidade é fantástica e o uso do raytracing para as luzes e o global Illumination faz toda a diferença!

    Cumprimentos,

NVIDIA Makes PhysX 3.3.3 Free to Unreal Engine 4 Developers

Following the free release of Unreal Engine 4, Epic has announced that, in partnership with NVIDIA, developers using Unreal will have access to NVIDIA’s PhysX 3.3.3 physics engine, plus its source code.
A statement from Epic Games reads:
“Today we’re excited to announce an expansion of that partnership with NVIDIA providing all UE4 developers with not just binary but C++ source access to the CPU-based implementation of PhysX 3.3.3, including the clothing and destruction libraries, through Epic’s Unreal Engine repository on GitHub.”
Epic is making great strides to make its game developer resources available to prospective creators for free, though the Unreal 4 agreement carries a 5% quarterly royalty charge on shipped games after the first $3,000 profit.
    Epic’s statement continued:
“This means that the entire UE4 community can now view and modify this PhysX code alongside the complete C++ source code for UE4. Modifications can be shared with NVIDIA who will review and incorporate accepted submissions into their main PhysX branch, which then flows into future versions of UE4.”

Project Bluestreak – “Gears of War” Creator Cliff Bleszinski Teases His New Unreal Engine 4 Game

Cliff Bleszinski, the mastermind behind Gears of War, showed off the first in-game footage of the first game of his new studio, BossKey Productions, titled Project Bluestreak. PC Gamer‘s Evan Lahti was in the audience with a cell phone and captured the teaser. The video shows some very nice looking footage of a few sci-fi panels and a weapons locker. The setting appears to be Japanese themed, with a beautiful oriental garden with cherry blossoms and a gorgeous waterfall. The game is using the Unreal Engine 4.

Blue Streak @bluestreak Follow Attendees of #PAXEast2015 we are running a panel on Saturday talking about creating a new IP like Project BlueStreak http://bit.ly/1ENQRQd

“Free-to-play doesn’t have to be Game of War, it doesn’t need to be Candy Crush,” Bleszinski said.
Every single item can be earned in Project Bluestreak

He continued to add that even though some games, have given free-to-play a bad name, there are examples of free-to-play done right, like League of Legends and Dota 2. He went on t clarify that every single item available for purchase in Project Bluestreak, can also be earned in the game.

“I don’t want to be paid-to-win,” he said.
Bleszinski also explained during the panel, that Project Bluestreak will follow the games-as-a-service model, and that BossKey plans to support the game for a long time with regular content updates and more.
The free-to-play model actually keeps BossKey honest, community manager Rohan Rivas said. “If it’s not good, you’re not going to keep playing it,” he said.
During the panel, Bleszinski also announced that Project Bluestreak will run on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, something t be expected since Bleszinski worked at Epic Games for two decades before leaving to start his own studio.
“It’s a game and concept I think will really resonate with players who have been clamoring for a new take on an old favorite. After all, I’ve had a year and a half to plan it”
Cliff Bleszinski on Project Bluestreak when it was first announced.
Project Bluestreak will be published by Nexon. No specific release date has been announced yet. We will bring you any new information as soon as it becomes available.
