Kingston Also Shows off HyperX Predator DDR4 and HyperX Fury DDR4 Memory

Kingston showed off its newest DDR4 memory modules, the HyperX Predator DDR4, and the HyperX Fury DDR4. Having first made its debut at PAX Prime, last August, the HyperX Predator DDR4 will be Kingston's flagship desktop memory module, with its tall compound aluminium heatsinks, chunky 10-layer PCBs with thick heat-dissipating copper layers, and some of the tightest memory timings, to go with some of the highest DRAM clock profiles, packed into their XMP profiles.

The HyperX Fury, on the other hand, will be Kingston's performance-value kit, coming in several sub-3000 MHz points. With a heatspreader that doesn't stick up beyond a standard module height, the HyperX Fury is targeted at high-end gaming PC builds, while the HyperX Predator targets enthusiasts and overclockers. Kingston set up a demo rig with a Core i7 "Haswell-E" processor, eight HyperX Predator modules running at DDR4-3000 speeds with around 64 GB/s of reads, 48 GB/s writes, and 67 GB/s mem-copy speeds, measured using AIDA64, with timings of 15-16-16-39-CR2T, and under stress from an FHD video playback.

Micron: DDR4 will remain more expensive than DDR3 this year

Later this year Intel Corp. plans to introduce its new code-named “Skylake” microprocessors that will target mass market segments and will support DDR4 memory. As a result, the latter will gain market share. Nonetheless, DDR4 will remain more expensive than DDR3 in the coming quarters, according to Micron Technology. At present DDR4 memory is utilized by servers powered by the latest Intel Xeon “Haswell-EP” microprocessors as well as high-end desktop PCs featuring Intel Core i7-5800/5900-series “Haswell-E” central processing units. While shipments of Xeon chips are on the rise, the overall share of DDR4 on the market remains low. The situation will change when Intel rolls-out its new “Skylake” chips that will support both DDR3 and DDR4 types of memory.
“DDR4 ASPs remain at a significant premium to DDR3 given the enhanced performance,” said Mark Adams, the president of Micron, during a conference call with investors and financial analysts. “As the market for DDR4 begins to take shape over the next 12 months and beyond the rate of growth should positively impact our average ASP.”

Unfortunately, Micron has made no predictions regarding adoption of DDR4 by the market; it is unknown how many desktop and laptop PCs will use the new type of memory.
Thanks to increasing sales of servers based on the latest Intel Xeon chips, shipments of DDR4 by Micron in the Q4 2014 increased four times quarter-over-quarter.

Enquanto não existir uma plataforma para o publico e produção massiva, a DDR4 vai permanecer bem cara.
Resta esperar que a Intel este ano comece a mudar este cenario quando lançar a plataforma Skylake.

Crucial DDR4-2133 32GB Memory Kit Review

Although less known nowadays, generic-looking Crucial modules ruled the enthusiast memory market from the late 1990s until the early 2000s. These innocuous green memory sticks not only often overclocked better than anything else on the market, but they were usually much cheaper than competing offerings that were pre-binned, had fancy black PCBs, and even fancier heatspreaders. One of the reasons for this streak of success is the fact that Crucial is basically the retail arm of Micron, one of the oldest and most respected semiconductor manufacturers around, and thus usually have first or even sole access to Micron ICs.

Crucial currently has an impressive twenty-eight DDR4 offerings, but unusually - and perhaps brilliantly - they are one of the few companies offering not only quad-channel but dual-channel DDR4 memory kits as well. While that might seem weird, it is an affordable way of buying into the LGA2011-3 platform without having to spend a ton of money of a full quad-channel kit. Yes, performance will obviously be degraded but not nearly as much as you might expect. We might have to test this out in the future, but for now our interest is still in the company's full-blown quad-channel memory kits.

The memory kit that we are reviewing today doesn't seem special at face value - other than the fact that it's large at 32GB and DDR4 based - but we will definitely find out whether it has some of that old school Crucial magic. The Crucial CT4K8G4DFD8213 is a quad-channel 32GB DDR4 memory kit that features four 8GB modules clocked at DDR4-2133 with 15-15-15-36 timings at a low 1.20V. This is essentially identical to the formal JEDEC DDR4 specifications. It might not be as exciting as the G.Skill DDR4-3000 model that we previously reviewed, but it promises to be highly compatible and it is the most affordable 32GB DDR4 memory kit on the market at around $420USD/$450CAD. Also, you do get a lifetime warranty, which is something that Crucial pioneered in the memory market.

So is this model an enthusiast Diamond in the Rough, or just a solid kit better suited for workstations? Let's find out!

Review: Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2,400 16GB

    Introduction

Crucial, the retail arm of Micron, has been selling DDR4 memory at its US store for a while now. Though not present in the UK webstore at the moment, various Crucial Ballistix modules can be purchased this side of the pond through enterprising retailers.
The company doesn't claim to the be the first to market with cutting-edge DDR4 - we have yet to see anything quicker than 2,400MHz on the Ballistix line - but has a well-earned history of reliability and customer service. And with the Intel X99 platform the only one using the new memory for now, one that isn't partial to higher speeds, purchasing well-priced DDR4-2,400 remains a sensible choice.
Playing on this value-performance theme is a 16GB (4x4GB) pack of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2,400. Identified as part number BLS4K4G4D240FSA and available for $299 in the US and £199 in the UK, the quad-module pack is specified with 16-16-16 latencies. The pricing is consistent with other manufacturers' DDR4 rated at the same speed and timings.

Crucial's styling department has it spot-on with these modules. Purposefully weighty and looking attractive through the use of a black PCB contrasting well against the gunmetal-grey finish of the heatspreaders, the modules are of standard height and therefore fit in easily underneath the larger coolers used on an X99 platform.
Are heatspreaders really necessary on memory of this ilk? We'd say no, because the modules barely get warm to the touch after extended use, so, like every other memory guy on the market, it's a case of style over substance.
Build quality is excellent though we would like the sharp edges smoothed a little. Installing them into some motherboards, particularly with the cooler in place, requires significant force to be exerted on the edges, leading to painful fingertips.
A 32GB pack (8x4GB) is also available for those who want to maximise capacity on Intel's leading consumer platform, and it is one reason why Crucial chose to keep the speeds conservative - there are very few kits and boards that run all eight DIMMs at super-fast speeds.

The heatspreader is the same on both sides. Modules are notched in such a way as to guarantee they can't be installed incorrectly. Interestingly, they're natively programmed at 2,400MHz speeds, not 2,133MHz as we have seen on other DDR4. Examining how they are setup by Crucial further, both the XMP 2.0 and JEDEC settings are broadly the same - 2,400MHz - and work off a standard 1.2V.
Sub-£200 pricing for a 16GB pack is key if DDR4 is going to appeal to the 'value-conscious' X99 buyer. Crucial hits that mark, just, with this Ballistix Sport pack.

    G.Skill Unleashes 3400 MHz DDR4 Ripjaws 4 Memory Modules

    G.Skill does it again! Here's some super-speedy 3400 MHz DDR4 memory.

G.Skill's announced two new super-speedy DDR4 memory kits, each of which brings a marginal improvement over what the company already had available. Both products are in the G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series.
The first kit goes by the part number F4-3400C16Q-16GRKD, and as you might have already spotted, this is a 16 GB kit that runs at a frequency of 3400 MHz. Previously, G.Skill set a record for the world's fastest stock DDR4 memory, which it held at 3333 MHz. The modules run with CL16 timings.
The second kit also comes in a 16 GB flavor but "only" runs at 3200 MHz. This lower frequency has allowed G.Skill to play with the timings a little, bringing those down to a somewhat snappier CL15. Previously, the 3200 MHz Ripjaws 4 kit carried CL16 timings.
In order to be able to achieve these speeds and timings, G.Skill has selectively hand-picked the memory ICs to ensure the utmost stability. IC's lower down in the binning process simply wouldn't be able to run such frequencies without needing a voltage higher than 1.35 V. Despite this, though, the improvements are only marginal, but if you're looking for the fastest memory available, you might have to look at these.
Both kits consist of four 4 GB modules and come with a Turbulence III memory fan. They come with LED lights built in, although we'd probably end up not using them – if you've got decent airflow in your case we doubt you'll need to use more memory cooling than the standard aluminum heatsinks.
G.Skill hasn't announced availability or pricing, although you probably don't want to know how much these things will cost you, anyway.

Mushkin Announced New Ridgeback Heatsink Design

Most manufacturers just adapted their old and proven heatsink design to their new DDR 4 memory, but not so Mushkin. They have created the new and elegant looking Ridgeback heatsink for the Blackline and Redline memory modules.
The new heatsinks are cut from aircraft-grade aluminium and each module is hand tested and validated on motherboards from all major manufacturers. The Ridgeback DDR4 modules naturally feature XMP 2.0 profiles for easy setup with Intel X99 platforms and the latest Core i7 processors.
Seen below is the current Redline design that while being efficient, isn’t the most beautiful to look at. The new design is a welcome addition to otherwise great memory modules.

The new Ridgeback DDR4 modules are officially scheduled to launch within Q1 2015.

SK Hynix launches KLEVV DDR RAM lineup, targeted at high-end gamers

The high-end DRAM market has been dominated by a few players in the last couple of years, with the likes of Corsair, G.SKILL, Crucial and a few others. But it looks like this could all change with the introduction of a new company, KLEVV, which was showing off its new DDR3 and DDR4 modules at PAX South this weekend. The KLEVV website has only opened up in the last 24 hours, which you can check out here.

KLEVV is a partner of SK Hynix, who sell their DRAM IC to companies like Corsair or G.SKILL, but now it could be providing its top binned (best chips) to KLEVV, giving it a serious edge against the competition. This means that KLEVV will be a force to be reckoned with within the DRAM market rather quickly, without having to worry about securing the best IC and paying through the nose for it, as it will be cherry picking the very best thanks to its strong connection with its parent company; Essencore, which falls under the SK Hynix umbrella.

During PAX South, Essencore was showing off an entire range of KLEVV DDR3 and DDR4 modules. The initial shipments will be locked to the United States for now, with Essencore partnering with Newegg for distribution. There are various lines being shown off, with the KLEVV Cras DDR4 Gaming Memory Module sitting at the very top. This ships with speeds of 2133, 2666, 2800, 3000 and 3200MHz with varying voltages, and capacities of up to 32GB (4 x 8GB modules). The tagline for this memory is "tapping the supreme power within" which is a nice tease.

There are three versions of KLEVV's DDR3 memory, all falling into the Gaming category. We have KLEVV Genuine, Urbane and Neo. The Genuine and Urbane ranges come in capacities of up to 32GB and speeds of between 1600-3200MHz. The Neo range will be the mainstream part, with capacities scaling up to 32GB too, but speeds limited to just 1600-2400MHz. Then we have some nice U-DIMMs from KLEVV in both DDR4 and DDR3. These U-DIMMs come in capacities of 4GB and 8GB, at speeds of up to 2133MHz for DDR4 and 1866MHz for DDR3.

You can be sure we'll be getting some of this memory in to test as soon as we can, so keep checking back for more details on Essencore's new KLEVV range of memory here at TweakTown.

Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 16GB 2666MHz Memory Kit Review

    Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 Review

DDR4 memory isn’t exactly mainstream just yet, but that isn’t keeping the memory makers from releasing hundreds of memory kits to the market. There are over 200 memory modules listed online at Newegg, so there isn’t a shortage of DDR4 memory modules online. Next week Crucial will be introducing the Ballistix Elite DDR4 series of memory modules (product website), which is the premium line for Crucial. Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 memory modules start at 2666MHz to ensure users have improved responsiveness, increased frame rates, and optimized latencies versus those using standard 2133MHz or 2400MHz DDR4 memory modules.
    image: http://www.legitreviews.com/wp-conte...stix-elite.jpg

All Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 memory modules that are coming to market right now are clocked at 2666MHz with 16-17-17-36 2T timings and operate with just 1.2 Volts. Crucial offers Ballistix Elite DDR4 memory modules individually, in pairs for dual-channel operation and in sets of four for quad-channel use. Right now the modules themselves will be available at 4GB and 8GB and all the modules run at 1.2V compared to 1.5V that most DDR3 memory kits use.

Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 Memory Available

Crucial announced the availability of their new Ballistix Elite DDR4 memory modules. The new modules come as 4GB and 8GB versions and as single, dual or four packs.
The new modules deliver introductory speeds starting at 2666 MT/s, and allow users to radically increase bandwidth to 21 GB/s while decreasing the power consumption by up to 40 percent when compared to DDR3 memory. Ballistix Elite DDR4 memory is optimized for the latest Intel X99 platforms with support XMP 2.0 profiles and features a custom-designed black PCB and anodized aluminum heat spreaders for that extra touch.
“Ballistix Elite DDR4 introduces a striking new look for us while reducing the memory bottleneck further by delivering faster speeds and bandwidths, improved responsiveness, and enabling increased frame rates,” said Jeremy Mortenson, product marketing manager, Crucial.
A really cool feature is the exclusive Ballistix Memory Overview Display (M.O.D.) utility which provides the ability to read information from the module. This includes real-time temperature from the integrated thermal sensor, voltages and more, and all to aid those overclocking efforts.
The new modules are available for purchase from Crucial’s website and global partners where the prices start at $94.99 for a 4GB module. Like all Crucial memory, these modules are also backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

MSI reaches 4351MHz on DDR4 memory with X99S XPOWER AC motherboard

The MSI X99S XPower AC, one of MSI's latest Intel X99 based motherboards, just managed to set the world's fastest DDR4 memory clock speed using Kingston HyperX DDR4 4GB memory in the hands of overclocker Toppc.
Running at an amazing 4351 MHz clock speed, the mighty X99S XPOWER AC remained fully stable and was even able to perform everyday tasks while setting this giant milestone at the 4351 MHz clock speed. This great achievement once again shows that the MSI X99S XPOWER AC motherboard is not only packed with an arsenal of features, it also packs plenty of power for heavy workstation tasks such as rendering and calculations.

SMART Moves DDR4 into Embedded Devices via Mini-DIMM Form Factor

SMART Modular Technologies announced the launch of its DDR4 Mini-DIMM, one of the first Mini-DIMM form factor utilising the next generation DDR4 technology. SMART’s initial lineup of DDR4-2133 Mini-DIMMs include 8GB and 16GB VLP Mini-UDIMM modules along with standard height Mini-RDIMM modules.
The new modules comply with JEDEC 288-pin form factor and pin-out standards and SMART worked with Molex to create a robust DDR4 Mini-DIMM vertical mount socket with secure latches. It is also designed with additional power and ground signals compared to SO-DIMMs.
For now, this has very little impact on all of us as consumers. But when we look at the broader picture, it’s something that will help to spread the usage of DDR4. That in return will benefit us users by increased production and thereby lower prices. And the price is what is holding people back right now, without a doubt.
