    Turtle Beach Elite 800X Review

The latest headset from Turtle Beach is aimed at mobile and Xbox One consumers. With noise cancellation, bluetooth, surround sound and even a mobile app we test it today in our Turtle Beach Elite 800X Review.
Turtle Beach Elite 800X Review – Packaging and Bundle

The Elite 800X arrives in a large box and on it we get a thorough rundown of the key features along with a clear image of the product. Inside the bundled items are found in their own box and start with product documentation before finding an optical cable, 3.5mm cable for mobile devices and two USB cables. One connects to our base unit (more on that later) and the other to our headset, meaning we don’t need to switch cables for firmware updates, etc.
Turtle Beach Elite 800X Review – The Headset

The Elite 800X is shown above and the initial look at it certainly shows a lean towards the Xbox green and black colour scheme. We get the usual extension on each side, increasing size by around an inch each and the headband has a decent amount of padding with the Turtle Beach logo on top. Each of the ear-cups has a leatherette finish with fabric covering the speakers and Turtle Beach have gone with some extra branding in there.
As far as specifications go, we have 50mm speakers (Neodymium Magnets) with a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz.

Need a little high end audio? Check out HiFiMAN's EF100 DAC and Amp

Just the look of the EF100 DAC from HiFiMAN gives you the notion that this is not an entry level peice of audio equipment, it is aimed at those who desire near studio quality audio but who lack the means to rent studio time or buy professional level equipment. The $500 price tag is steep but you get what you pay for, a tube driven amplifier with C-Media CM102s inside with two analogue inputs, a mini-jack and RCA inputs. If this sounds like something you might need in your life check out TechPowerUp's review right here.

"HiFiMAN has a reputation for producing great headphone amplifiers. Today, we take a look at their newest do-it-all headphone amplifier & DAC combo with an on-board T-amp. This all-encompassing device features a class A/B headphone amplifier with a tube input stage. Despite all its features, it sells for $499, which is quite impressive."

Phiaton introduces BT 100 NC earphones, Bluetooth 4.0 audio product

Audio company Phiaton has launched the BT 100 NC earphones, a Bluetooth 4.0 headset that features active noise cancellation. The product is geared towards athletes with water- and sweat-resistance functionality for athletes, commuters and people enjoying the outdoors.

The BT 100 NC use an "around the neck" design with inline controls that allow wearers to manage music and calls. The earphones are available for $119.

"In today's market, there are few options that balance superior audio performance with the need for a durable headphone that can withstand the rigors of exercise and other daily activities," said James Baik, president of Phiaton. "The BT 100 NC is designed to fill this need and provide an all-around superb experience for users."

Phiaton is an audio company that you may not be familiar with, but the company makes excellent products. I've used the Phiaton Fusion MS 430 headphones for the past couple of months and have had no problems with them - so if you can find the company's products, and want to roll the dice, it certainly could be worth the investment.

Razer Updates Kraken Pro Headset With Volume And Mic Controls

Razer boasts a huge lineup of headsets — six different series, to be exact — to please its numerous fans. With only a few days to go until E3, the company announced an updated version of one of its Kraken headsets, the Kraken Pro.
In order to make the headset more convenient to users, the new model now features inline controls to adjust volume and mute the microphone. The volume control itself is a grooved wheel with the microphone on/off switch located beneath it.
Other than that, the Kraken Pro has the same features as before, including a retractable microphone and a closed ear cup design, and Razer claimed that the headset’s weight has been optimized so that you can wear it comfortably for an extended period of time.
The inclusion of volume and mic controls is a bit late for the headset, as the feature is a must-have on most of today’s headphones and earphones because it removes the need to adjust the volume via the taskbar. Additionally, some of today’s keyboards feature media controls for music, which might include a knob to adjust the volume. Still, it’s a feature that’s better late than never.
The Kraken Pro comes in three colors: black, green and white. The updated version will be out this month for $79.99 — the same price as its predecessors.

    • Driver diameter: 40mm.
    • Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
    • Sensitivity: 102 dB +/- 3 dB
    • Closed back design.
    • Microphone response: 50 Hz to 10,000 Hz.

They’ve continued to produce award-winning high-end products year after year, even landing some of the best budget friendly models in the PC and console gaming sectors. Today though, we’re looking higher up the range, right at the very top in fact, with their new flagship Xbox One gaming headset, the Elite 800X.
“Welcome to the future of gaming audio with Turtle Beach Elite. Powerful sound, abundant comfort and dynamic function combine to exceed your wildest expectations with the Turtle Beach Elite 800X. Uncompromising, the Elite 800X is the ultimate in completely wireless Xbox One noise cancelling, surround sound gaming audio with DTS Headphone:X 7.1 Channel Surround Sound and DTS Surround Sound modes that further enhance your games, music and movies. The long-lasting rechargeable battery provides up to 10 hours of use while Bluetooth keeps you connected with your mobile devices.”
Features? This headset has them, it has a lot of them! It features high-end wireless technology, a magnetic charging dock, Bluetooth connectivity, chat boost, superhuman hearing, the latest DTS Headphone:X 7.1 surround sound processing and a whole lot more. At least on paper, this headset promises to deliver a lot, so let’s get right to it, take a closer look and put this extensive feature set to the test!

The box features a nice image of the headset and dock on the front, as well as a quick rundown of the major features.

One cool feature, detailed a little on the back of the box, is the accompanying Android app, which allows you to tweak profile settings on the fly while you’re gaming.

All the cables you will need are included in the box. This includes USB charging cables, a Toslink optical cable and 4-pole 3.5mm cable for mobile use.

The charging base is nicely designed so that you can drop the headset into place with no faffing about; strong magnets snap the headset into the base and only the charging pins.

There’s a light-up Turtle Beach logo and round the back you’ll find optical passthrough ports, USB (for power) and a pairing button; nice and simple.

You wouldn’t want you expensive headset sliding around, so you’ll find four grippy rubber feet on the charging unit; these keep it planted firmly on any smooth surface.

The headset is really nicely designed. It’s obviously a gaming headset and the green trim does give it a little flair, but the matte finish plastics help keep it a little understated at the same time. There a rocker panel on the side of each ear cup, moving them in one of the four available directions give you access to major settings such as preset, volume and mute controls, power, Bluetooth, etc.

The headband is thick, light and durable, which is always a good thing. There a nice chrome finish on the side with the “ELITE” branding.

A subtle “Turtle Beach” logo on the top of the headband.

Each ear cup can be rotated inwards and comes mounted on a pivot, this will help provide a comfortable fit over your ears and help block out unwanted noise.

Folding the drivers right around will give the headset a more comfortable resting position when you’re wearing it around your neck; perfect for those between game breaks.

There’s a thick and soft leather padding on each ear cup, as well as a soft fabric backing over the drivers. It looks great, the stitching looks neat and tidy and you really couldn’t ask for much better here.

The headband has a slider on each side, allowing you to tailor the fit to your own head. The slider is pretty durable too and locks firmly into place at each step.

Don’t like the design of the rocker panels? You can pull them off easily enough. You can buy custom panels from Turtle Beach, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you could always get out your spray paints and customise it yourself.

As I said before, the headset simply snaps into the dock thanks to some built-in magnets. This means you’ve got somewhere to store your headset, this means it is less likely to get scratched, with the added bonus that it’ll be charging while stored and it’s also a great way of showing it off.

BRAVEN 805 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review

    Introduction

This Braven model doesn't feature any IP waterproof or dustproof rating, instead attacking the speaker audience from another angle: premium quality at a premium price.

Featuring the handy ability to sync up with other speakers of the same model around it and also the ability to charge your smartphone, the 805 sets out to provide you with a brilliant at-home speaker product - but can the performance and features match up with the high price? Read on to find out my thoughts.

    Specifications

Released in various color schemes, this speaker is packed full of premium features in a bid for Braven to appeal to a higher-spending consumer audience.

First off the rank is the SRS WOW HD integration, said to provide an enhanced audio performance and bass response, coupled with the ability for you to pair up two Braven speaker in unison - each taking one channel (left or right). The inbuilt 4400mAh battery is charged by a wall-supplied pin power back and enables an external USB port to charge any smartphone or tablet that you wish.

Measuring in at 2.8 inches x 9.5 inches x 4 inches, it's certainly not the smallest speaker we have reviewed, but from reading the marketing materials, this isn't really a speaker that is designed to travel light with you on small trips. It's more reserved for at-home or suitcase travel applications. There's also an awesome battery indicator on the back which contains five bright LED lights displaying exactly how much is left in the tank alongside the AUX input port.

As for a sturdy base, the Braven 805 gives two non-slip rubber pads which could have been made a little bigger to ensure a stable platform.

    Pricing & Availability

Highly-priced at $199.99 with free shipping from Amazon, the Braven 805 sets out to provide you with a premium quality speaker at a premium price. If you've used to 'mainstream' speakers which are generally very overpriced, this Braven speaker price point will be nothing new to you, however, it has some questions to answer if it is to beat the brilliant sub-$100 speakers I have tested lately.

    What's in the box?

Featuring a wall-charger complete with various plugs for different countries, there is also an included AUX 3.5mm cable to round up all that is on offer.

Honestly, for $200, it's a little disappointing that Braven hasn't included any accessories as seen with its previous models (Mira and BRV-X) or competing companies, there's enough left out here that I can make a list of it all:

    • No mini-USB charging cable
    • No carry pouch/case
    • No pouch for the charger or way to organize the different 'heads'
    • No carry strap or handle

    Let's dig deeper

Being a premium priced product, you're obviously going to expect some great quality and this is once again where Braven delivers in spades.

The hard plastic exterior feels solid and is made of good material. The color contrasting grey sides suit the overall product well, all ports are located on one side of the product with the other featuring a stylish etched logo and all of the top control buttons feel firm, responsive and great to the touch. It's worth noting that sound is turned up and down by repeatedly pressing the plus or minus button, whereas the songs are changed by holding it down - sounds simple right? Well, every company seems to do things differently and we've been caught out before!

Although the rubberized 'feet' could have been made larger, this product looks good and feels great to use.

    Braven the reviews

The 'other most important part' is how it actually sounds. Braven makes some big claims including a modern and elegant design, an 18 hour wireless playtime and says that this speaker is designed for singing, dancing and partying with you from day to night. Taking this in mind, obviously we're going to expect the speaker to be loud, have some serious bass and out-shine our beloved Etekcity RoverBeats T12 speaker.

The booming sound is certainly present when pumped up to maximum volume paired with my Samsung Galaxy S4 playing through Spotify. Tyler, the creator's new album 'CHERRYBOMB' manages to rock the water in my glass with each note in song number two - 'BUFFALO'. The clarity is great when listening to songs such as 'Such Great Heights' by The Postal Service, but still flat when compared to something like my Kingston HyperX Cloud II headset or five+ year old Logitech X-530 speakers set up in 2.1 mode.

Polk Audio Introduces Exclusive Striker Pro Hitman Contract Edition Headset

Polk Audio, a high-performance audio brand with over 40 years of sound engineering and design expertise, today announced the debut of a limited edition gaming headset, the Striker Pro Hitman Contract Edition. Designed for gameplay on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One (using the new controller), Wii-U, PC, laptop or smartphone, each audiophile-grade gaming headset purchased is uniquely serialized with numbers on the inside of the earcup. Additionally, the headset features signature branding from the popular Hitman video game series and upcoming movie Hitman, including a white spring-steel headband against plush, padded black ear cups with Hitman red interior accents. The headset will be on display, along with new Striker Pro headset, at Polk Audio's E3 booth, #5612.

New developed drivers utilizing Polk Optimized Electro-Acoustic Tuning (POET) and Dynamic Balance technology result in rich, immersive audio quality and allow users to hear all the details and subtleties in their game. For clear chat, the headset comes with a new removable omni-directional microphone with push button mute for both console and PC gaming, as well as a small and discrete in-line microphone for mobile use. To easily switch gaming preferences, three detachable cables and two removable microphones are included.

"We're thrilled to introduce a second gaming solution at E3 that's tied to one of fall's most highly anticipated movies and recognized video game series," said Michael Greco, Global Brand Director for Polk. "Leveraging our deep roots in creating best-selling loudspeakers as well as our experience working with top gaming studios to develop premium audio accessories, we know that sound quality is more critical than ever for an exceptional gaming experience. We've developed the Striker Pro and this special headset to be the ultimate audio accessories that take users deeper into the virtual worlds of their entertainment."

Striker Pro is unique and versatile in that it allows users to conveniently switch between different gaming modes with its three included detachable cables-all designed to enhance each gaming experience. Cable offerings include:
    • Mobile Connect Cable - a 3.5mm microphone cable with in-line controls allow users to play, pause, and make phone calls without having to touch their device
    • Dual-Jack Console Controller Connect Cable - unlike the standard 3.5mm cable, this 1.3 meter (4 ft.) custom console cable is designed for high-fidelity audio to enhance microphone performance and minimize crosstalk. Additionally, the PlayStation 4 versions allow for easy access to master volume and microphone mute without having to use the onscreen menus. Its in-line also includes an attenuator to adjust your microphone's gain to ensure it does not distort during online gaming sessions
    • Dual-Jack, Detachable, Extra-long Pro PC Connect Cable - Polk's very own 3-meter (9.8 ft.) long Pro PC connect cable lowers the noise floor to minimize crosstalk and boost microphone clarity for exceptional audio performance

The Striker Pro Hitman Contract Edition Gaming Headset (MSRP: $129) will be available in September at select U.S., Canadian, and U.K. retailers including PolkAudio.

V-MODA lets you customize your products while embracing 3D printing

Audio maker V-MODA is embracing innovation by spearheading a project for the world's first 3D printed personalized wearable technology. The company has introduced custom 3D printed shields using materials such as stainless steel, raw, plated and other precious materials - creating the "first time in history" that mass customization "merges jewel-grade 3D printing with consumer electronics."

Using the V-MODA website, consumers can customize their products by choosing a base color, 3D shield material of choice, and then the design and monogram of their product. As for precious metals, the following choices are available: sterling silver, solid 14k gold, 14k rose gold, 14k white gold, or platinum.

"3D printing has captured the imaginations of people, but this is the first application that can be worn every day on an award-winning product," said Val Kolton, CEO of V-MODA. "This technology ends the ubiquity of carbon copy, plastic consumer electronics and ushers in an era of bespoke designs and metals that transform products into handcrafted designer relics."
