    iOS 9

iOS 9 to Focus on Faster Performance (Report)

When Apple's iOS 9 inevitably lands on our iPhones and iPads, its biggest new feature might not be a new app or service, but rather how well it performs under the hood. According to a new report, Apple's engineers are hard at work making sure that iOS 9 is the fastest and most stable version yet of the company's mobile operating system.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple's software team is putting a major focus on squashing iOS bugs and boosting performance instead of just adding new features and applications. Apple will also reportedly keep iOS 9 and its subsequent updates at a manageable download size, so that those with minimal storage on their iPhone or iPad won't be locked out of receiving the latest software.
MORE: Best Smartphones on the Market

This performance-first approach could be in response to iOS 8's notably rocky launch last fall. When the software first arrived alongside the iPhone 6, users reported camera inaccuracies, software glitches and app crashes, particularly on older iOS devices. The iOS 8.0.1 update meant to fix these issues actually caused even more problems, and was pulled about an hour after release.
There's no word on what device generations iOS 9 will support, but 9to5Mac suggested that limiting the software to any device with an A7 processor or newer could help limit performance issues.
While we don't know if iOS 9 will herald any major new features, recent Apple patents point to future improvements such as public transit directions and a Google Maps-esque street view function for Maps. As with every year, we'll likely get a clearer look at what iOS 9 has in store when Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicks off over the summer.

Apple To Reportedly Open iOS 8.3 And iOS 9 To Public Beta Testing

Before the official retail release of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, Apple opened up a public beta, which gave customers an early preview of what was to come with the retail release (and gave Apple more data points to scour over when it came to bug reports). According to a new report from 9 to 5 Mac, it looks as though Apple will begin extending public betas to future releases of iOS.

Given the recent reports of quality issues with OS X and iOS, Apple could definitely use some more eyes to watch out for glaring bugs or stability issues. According to 9 to 5 Mac, “Apple intends to release the upcoming iOS 8.3 as a public beta via the company’s existing AppleSeed program in mid-March… This release will match the third iOS 8.3 beta for developers, which is planned for release the same week.”

As for the upcoming release of iOS 9, the publication adds, “Apple then expects to debut iOS 9 at its June Worldwide Developer Conference, with a public beta release during the summer, and final release in the fall.”

We’ve already heard that iOS 9 will be more of a maintenance release than one that adds a laundry list of new features. And with a reported 100,000 consumers joining Apple employees and iOS developers in testing out future versions of iOS, there should be less of an excuse for any glaring issues (**cough** Safari copy/paste issues in the first release of iOS 8 **cough**) for the retail release of iOS 9.

Opening up iOS betas to consumers will also have an added benefit [for Apple] in that it should reduce the number of unauthorized UDID activations that take place when the first betas of a new iOS version are made available to developers. Currently, some iOS developers sell access to betas via ecommerce sites like eBay, which is against Apple’s developer agreement. An iOS user pays a small fee (usually $3 to $5) and emails their device UDID to the seller. At that point, the seller will add the UDID to their developer account, which in turn activates the device with Apple’s servers and gives it access to iOS betas.

Apple FaceTime Screen Sharing May Hit iOS 9

FaceTime is a simple way for iOS users to communicate face-to-face across long distances, but if users need to share information on-screen, there's no good way to do it. Apple may be working on a way to address that, as a patent application suggests that consumers may eventually be able to share both their faces and screens simultaneously on iOS devices.
Apple Insider dug up the patent information, which the electronics company first filed in January 2012. The feature, which Apple dubs "interactive application sharing," would work very similarly to the remote desktop feature in Windows, whereby users share exactly what's on their screens with a second user.
    MORE: Best Smartwatches
The patent application itself is mostly just technical information, but the bottom line is clear. If Apple implements this technology, users could use FaceTime to share their screens as well as a live video feed. Among other things, users could superimpose their faces over a live feed of their screens, behind the app icons on the main screen, or not at all, letting the shared screen speak for itself.
While this technology would have obvious applications for productivity and tech support, Apple also envisions more casual uses. One of the images it submitted along with the application shows a reader's face superimposed over a digital copy of A.A. Milne's "Winnie-the-Pooh," which could make long-distance reading aloud a little more immersive. Couples could employ similar techniques for watching movies (although one must wonder how companies like Netflix would react to screensharing).
Because Apple filed the application more than three years ago, it's hard to say if screen sharing will come to iOS 9 later this year. Apple's next mobile OS will put a big emphasis on fast performance, with possible new features, including integrated transit directions and a Google-esque street view for Maps. The software is expected to be available as a public beta this summer.

Springtomize 3 For iOS 9 Released, Download Now!

You can now download Springtomize 3 for iOS 9 jailbreak tweak today directly from Cydia.

If you ask a diehard jailbreak user to list down their favorite tweaks and apps, then it wouldn’t come as a surprise that Springtomize manages to invade every top 5 list over and over again. The reason for that is simple – the power said tweak provides to the user. Thankfully, after a much awaited pause, Springtomize 3 has been updated for iOS 9 and is immediately available to download directly from the Cydia store.
Springtomize 3 For iOS 9 Is Now Available To Download From Cydia

To put it in simple words, Springtomize lets you customize your ‘device like never before.’ But in reality, the tweak is much more than that as it lets you tailor up almost every aspect of iOS to your liking. For instance, if you want to customize your iPhone dock, then Springtomize has you well covered. Don’t like the layout of Control Center? You can tweak that as well to your liking. Want to hide the dock altogether? That is covered as well. All in all, Springtomize is a very, very powerful tweak and we suggest that every jailbreak user give it a shot at least once.

With the amount of power the tweak brings with it, Springtomize therefore comes attached with a small price tag of just $2.99 and is available to download directly from the BigBoss repo in Cydia. If you’re looking for one good reason to jailbreak your device, then Springtomize is the tweak you need under your belt to get the ball rolling.

Rather than just adding iOS 9 support in this release, you’ll be pleased to learn that the tweak also supports iOS 7 and iOS 8 right off the bat, so you do not have to worry about compatibility related issues. Furthermore, Springtomize 3 is available in 20 different languages, hence you’re covered in that regard as well. Lastly, once you download and install Springtomize onto your iOS device, everything can be configured right from the stock Settings app.
If you do happen to give Springtomize 3 for iOS 9 a shot on your device then do not forget to let us know what you think about it in the comments section below. We would put the tweak in the list of highly recommended utilities for any user – jailbreak, of course – out there.

iOS 9.2 Update Download For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch – IPSW Links

iOS 9.2 update (final version) for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch is now available to download and we have the direct IPSW links right here as well as changelog.

After A Sleuth Of Betas, iOS 9.2 Final Version Has Arrived For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Apple has just seeded the second big point update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users – iOS 9.2 update – and the new build is immediately available to download on a compatible iOS device.
Apart from the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements, the iOS 9.2 update brings with it some other changes as well, which are highlighted in the official changelog which we have posted below.

Unlike iOS 9.1, the new iOS 9.2 update is not as feature rich. But given that updates tend to fix things while also patch crucial security holes, we highly recommend that you fire up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and download it straight away.

As usual, there are two routes you can take to download the iOS 9.2 update. The first one is the old school OTA (over the air) method, which requires your device to be connected to a WiFi network after which you follow a bunch of simple steps that are outlined below:

    • Launch the Settings app from your home screen.
    • Tap on the entry that is labelled ‘General.’
    • Now tap on ‘Software Update.’
    • Wait for a few seconds and iOS 9.2 update will pop right up. Once it does, simply tap on ‘Download and Install’ and you’re good to go.

Please make sure that your device is charged beyond the 50% mark and connected to a wall adapter before you proceed with the installation process.
The second method involves connecting your device to iTunes and do a clean restore. For this to happen, you will require the iOS 9.2 IPSW file that is tailored for your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and for your convenience we’ve linked everything down below.

iOS 9.2.1 Tests Show Minor Performance Improvement On Older iPhones – Video

Yesterday marked the day for iOS 9.2.1 beta release for developers. So it seems that performance enhancements have tagged along with the software upgrade on older iPhones. Even though Apple supports its older devices at best, but upgrades usually don’t do well in contrast to their host OS releases.

iOS 9.2.1 Improves Performance On Older iPhone Models

There are certain reasons for declining performance on older iOS devices as new upgrades are installed. The outdated hardware does not deliver the same performance as new devices. However, Apple does provide performance enhancements over time. There is not much known about the iOS 9.2.1 software upgrade, but as we have mentioned earlier, the upgrade brings minor performance improvements in older devices. Most likely, the update would support, bug fixes and small tweaks to boost user experience on iOS 9. The test conducted shows different iPhone variants compared side by side with the same models.
As can be seen in the video below, the iPhone 4s boots up faster on iOS 9.2.1 than the current iOS 9.2. However, apps load a bit faster with iOS 9.2. Nonetheless, do take note that the iOS 9.2.1 is still in its beta stage and many others are yet to come. Moreover, if we take a closer look, the user experience looks much smoother on with the beta version. You can check out more details in the video below.

Considering the upgrade with respect to iPhone 5, we can see that the boot up speed is faster on the beta release rather than iOS 9.2. Furthermore, we can also see that apps open up a wee bit faster on the iPhone 5 compared to iPhone 4s. This means that iOS 9.2.1 has definitely improved performance with the former. Even though the margin between speeds is very low, the upgrade is highly welcome for users with older iPhone variants.

    Advertisements

The iPhone 5s also delivers improved performance on iOS 9.2.1 compared to iOS 9.2. Apps open up faster and there are fewer UI lags on the Home screen as well as within the apps. All in all, the upgrade undoubtedly delivers improved performance on older iPhones, regardless of the amount. The videos provide many aspects by which we can judge the upgrade. If you want to know about more details regarding the update, you can have a look at the videos shared below.

This is it for now, folks. What do you think about the iOS 9.2.1 beta release? Does it have any impact on your older iPhone? Share your thoughts in the comments.

First Public Beta Of iOS 9.2.1 Released For iPhone, iPad And iPod

Apple rolled out its first iOS 9.1.2 beta to developers yesterday. Just a day after, the company decided to release the update to public beta testers. Judging by the name, iOS 9.2.1 is a minor upgrade, probably containing bug fixes and several under the hood improvements. Henceforth, it cannot be regarded as a major upgrade that might bring overhaul changes.

    iOS 9.2.1 Public Beta Released

Previously we have covered in detail, the changes part of the iOS 9.2.1 beta update for developers. The beta update packs minor improvements for older iPhones such as the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5s. However, it does not contain any gigantic changes that some users might expect. Do check out the impact of iOS 9.2.1 beta update on older iPhones. Overall, the boot up speed is increased and a wee bit of faster app launch time. Possibly the update will include fixes to any issues found in the iOS 9.2 update.
At this point in time, it is unclear what the update is all about. It is possible that it comes preloaded with bug fixes and minor improvements, but we could be wrong. Apple could sink in a little surprise feature that might not be visible to the naked eye. Nonetheless, all in the name of performance enhancement, the update could prove out to be beneficial for older devices. On the other hand, it can focus on the sluggish behavior of older iPads or iPods as well.
    Advertisements

The iOS 9.2.1 public beta is available to download from Apple’s public beta testing program. If you are not a member of the public beta program, then sadly, you cannot have any access to it. However, if you are ever eager to try it out, you can sign up with your details by heading over to Apple’s beta testing website. Providing your personal information for public beta would also allow you to access early OS X releases as well. However, you do need to have a Mac to do that.
If you are interested in installing the public beta, then we would prefer you to do it on a device that is not your daily driver. Probably, installing it on an older device would suffice, unless you want to test the update. More beta versions are yet to be released, before the company finally makes it an official public release.
This is it for now, folks. What do you think about the public beta? Are you willing to install it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod? Let us know in the comments.
