    Surface Hub

Microsoft is launching an 84-inch Surface

Microsoft is officially launching the Surface Hub, a giant 84-inch all-in-one system that will sell primarily to businesses. As you would probably think, these devices don’t come cheap, with the 84-inch model going for as high as $20,000.
There will be a slightly smaller 55-inch model available as well, which will sell for just shy of $7000. These huge Surface devices were originally announced back in January, with orders set to go live on the 1st of July. According to Microsoft’s announcement, the company has been working on these all-in-one surfaces for around three years, designing it for productivity.

“Today marks a milestone on the journey. With the announcement that we’ll begin taking orders for Surface Hub on 1 July, we are one step closer to bringing a new way of working to our business customers and delivering a tool that will bring teams together in more efficient and engaging ways.”
The Surface Hub will be available in 24 countries, including the US and UK. However, non-US pricing has yet to be revealed. Microsoft seems to be mainly pushing this for meeting room use or collaborative work. Each Surface Hub will come with Skype for Business as well, which may even have its real-time translator implemented by the time these ship, which will make international conference calls a little easier.

Microsoft Surface Hub Live Demo Shows Collaborative 84-inch 4K Windows 10 Beast In Action

Earlier this month, Microsoft offered more details and availability information for its forthcoming Surface Hub system. With pre-orders starting July 1st, these 55-inch or 84-inch machines offer a new collaborative version of the Surface experience for businesses, scientists, education and perhaps even power user consumers. Last week, while visiting our friends at CDW in Chicago, (more on this in the days ahead, think logistics and tech inventory powerhouse), we got to spend some time downtown at Microsoft's Envisioning Center.

Microsoft Technical Solutions Specialist, Mark Skoog showcased the company's Perceptive Pixel technology that they've been developing further since its acquisition back in 2012 and its related impact to science, humanity and business productivity. He took time to demo the new Microsoft Surface Hub as well, which makes use of Perceptive Pixel tech on a number of levels with tight integration with both Windows/Surface and various apps like Office 365, Skype and Microsoft's Power Bi data visualization platform.

As far as the hardware goes, the Surface Hub is based on an Intel mobile platform with a 4th Generation Intel Core mobile processor (Haswell) with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 on the 55-inch model and NVIDIA Quadro K2200 mobile graphics powering the 84-inch version. There are also a number of sensors onboard the Surface Hub including infrared, imaging and depth of field sensors, as well as two built-in wide-angle HD cameras.

The system is still being refined somewhat before the first customer models ship, but Mark's demo was impressive to see live and in action, nonetheless, and with very few hiccups we might add...

Toward the end of the video, you get to see us literally get some hands-on time with the Surface Hub and the surprising aspect was how responsive it was to multi-touch input. In fact, at one point there were three or four of us, all with our mitts on the display and drawing. The Surface Hub took all inputs effortlessly, allowing us to all draw simultaneously with seemingly zero lag. The processing engine onboard certainly wasn't struggling to keep up, but it was perhaps even more impressive to see the 84-inch panel we were on, with a 120Hz refresh rate, keeping pace with our inputs and looking sharp. With display technology this large, many times input and touch responsiveness comes at the expense of display quality. That simply wasn't the case with Surface Hub -- it was large, responsive and crisp.
The applications and usages you can think of, with a large collaborative, sort of "super-smart smart board" like this, are promising. For business and in the enterprise especially, teleconferencing has become almost commonplace. But true collaborative work environments that support telepresence capabilities like the Surface Hub can potentially revolutionize and reinvent the traditional business meeting.

The 55-inch Microsoft Surface Hub comes with a 1920x1080 120Hz display with a contrast ratio of 1300:1. The system is powered by a 4th Gen Core i5 processor with 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 4600 graphics and a 128GB SSD. The 84-inch Surface Hub model offers an 84-inch 4K (3840x2140) display at 120Hz with 1400:1 contrast ratio. This system is powered by a 4th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU with 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and discrete NVIDIA Quadro graphics.

Pre-orders start July 1 with shipments in September, 2015. Pricing is set at $6,999 for the 55-inch model and $19,999 for the 84-inch big boy.

Microsoft delays its 84-inch Surface Hub

A while back Microsoft announced the Surface Hub, a massive 84-inch all-in-one PC with a 4K display, primarily for use in businesses for collaborative projects. Pre-orders have been live for a few weeks but unfortunately, it looks like Microsoft is going to miss its September shipping date.
These displays cost between $7000 (55-inch) and $20,000 (84-inch) depending on which model you get so it is pretty out of reach for consumers. However, it seems Microsoft has seen “strong demand out of the gate”, which means the company has had to change up its manufacturing process slightly in order to produce more units.

“We started taking pre-orders on July 1 and we’ve seen strong demand out of the gate”, Microsoft’s Surface General Manager, Brian Hall wrote. “Based on the early interest we see, we’re tuning our manufacturing process to prepare for production at broader scale. To do this, we are adjusting our product roll-out schedule to ensure we deliver a great customer experience and set our partners up for success”.
Those who did pre-order the Surface Hub now don’t have an exact shipping date but Microsoft is hoping to provide an update in a few weeks time. Pre-orders are still live though. As far as internal specs go, the 84-inch 4K variant features an Nvidia Quadro K2200 GPU and an Intel Core i7 while the 55-inch model settles with integrated graphics.

Microsoft Surface Hub shipping date slips, price gets bumped

Microsoft has said that availability of its Surface Hub videoconferencing systems will be slightly delayed. A statement received by ZDNet also said that both the 55- and 85-inch Surface Hub models will be more expensive than originally advertised.
    Shipment delay
The Surface Hub was previously expected to ship starting from 1st January 2016. That date was itself a delay from a previous shipping target of 1st September 2015. Now Microsoft has revised its shipping schedule, saying "we are still on track to ship the first Surface Hub devices to customers earlier next year," with the stated timetable a much less precise 'first calendar quarter of 2016'.

    Price hike
The 55- and 85-inch Surface Hub models had been available for pre-order for $6,999 and $19,999 respectively. Now Microsoft has revised those prices. Despite the size and value differences both models will go up by the same amount, exactly $2,000, making the 55- and 85-inch Surface Hub $8,999 and $21,999 respectively. Those who have already pre-ordered won't be impacted by the price increase.
According to the official statement received by ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, the price increase comes following Microsoft's reassessment of the Surface Hub's value. "After evaluating the market opportunity and considering the unique collaboration scenarios Surface Hub offers, we believe these are the right prices to drive the business and the category forward," read the statement. Prospective buyers should be assured that Microsoft is "finalizing our manufacturing plan with a view towards delivering the best product experience".

The Microsoft Surface Hub was originally unveiled in January 2015. The systems run Windows 10 and offer multi-touch and digital ink enabled collaboration systems powered by bespoke versions of OneNote, Skype for Business and Microsoft's Office apps. Buyers receive the big-screen hub along with a wireless keyboard and a pair of pens.

Microsoft again delays Surface Hub launch

Microsoft has once again delayed its ambitious Surface Hub device launch, originally scheduled for release in September, to April or later.

Microsoft has once again delayed the launch of its Surface Hub, a large-format interactive Windows 10 display, admitting that manufacturing issues mean the device will not now hit shelves until April.

Confusingly similar to the Surface project, which re-purposed big-screen TVs as flat table-like gadgets featuring multi-touch control and object recognition, before the name was taken for Microsoft's tablet efforts, the Surface Hub was revealed last year as a high-resolution large-format display with integrated Windows 10 computer. The device was scheduled to launch in September, but Microsoft was forced to delay its release until January due to unspecified manufacturing issues - and when January came and went without a release, many wondered exactly what was going on.

Microsoft has now confirmed to channel outlet CRN UK that its manufacturing headaches continue, but has stated that it is 'still on track to ship the first Surface Hub devices to customers early this year' - where 'on track' is marketing speak for 'have already delayed our scheduled launch twice and don't want to tie ourselves down to a firm date only to slip yet again.'

A reseller of Microsoft hardware further told the site that stock is expected to arrive into the channel in April, a full seven months after the original launch date, and will be limited in quantity with full allocations not arriving until June - with the warning that orders for the business-centric device may not be fulfilled until later in the year.

Details of precisely what the manufacturing issue is are not available, but Microsoft's Ryan Asdourian told the site that the company is 'making sure a product like this releases with the highest level of quality when it ends up in customers' hands.' It may relate to the complexity of Microsoft's design: ti has opted to build the device with infra-red, wide-angle HD imaging, and depth sensor cameras, support for 100 simultaneous touch points, pressure-sensitive 'ink' stylus support, and in a choice of 55" Full HD or 84" Ultra HD flavours.

Microsoft Finally Ship Enormous Surface Hub Touchscreens

When you think of a Microsoft surface product, the advanced tablet-laptop hybrid systems are likely what come to mind. Now, the newest and largest member of the Surface family is finally shipping, available in a large 55-inch version and a truly gigantic 84-inch version. Clearly, not something you can carry around in your bag, but with their prices starting at $8,999 and $21,999 for each version respectively, they aren’t for the average consumer either.
Under the screen, the Surface Hub sports fourth-generation Intel Core processors (i5 for the 55-inch and i7 for the larger model), with graphics options including the standard Intel HD 4600 graphics or an nVidia Quadro K2200 workstation card. Also included are 128GB of solid state storage, 8GB of RAM, four USB ports of which half are USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and gigabit ethernet. Weighing in at 105 pounds for the smaller model and a hefty 280 pounds for the larger, mounting is important for the devices, with Microsoft having shown the devices capable of being mounted on walls or stands as needed.
As for why the Surface Hub is useful, instead of a typical smart whiteboard and projector connected to a laptop, for one, it is a fully self-contained device with no reliance on an external machine. It also packs a number of built-in sensors that allow it to start up automatically when approached and integrated support for a number of business tools, including Skype conference calling, Microsoft OneNote and integration with other devices. It’s touchscreen also has amazing 100-point touch support, allowing a number of people to operate the Hub simultaneously.
The Surface Hub was originally planned to launch last year, however sales were reportedly delayed to allow for it to be manufactured on a broader scale. Whether it will catch on for businesses when far cheaper solutions exist remains to be seen, but the Surface Hub is an interesting piece of hardware. Just one question remains, does it play Civilization well?

    Boa noite,

Pode não parecer neste momento, mas esta é a entrada da Microsoft no mundo da TV. Não agora, mas daqui a algum tempo.

    Cumprimentos.

Microsoft Surface Hub 84-Inch And 55-Inch Collaborative Work Displays Finally Shipping After Multiple Delays

To say that Microsoft's Surface Hub has had a bit of a rough start would be an understatement. Time and time again, just when we thought it was about to officially launch, Microsoft would pull up the reins announcing the wait would be a bit longer. But, no more. Surface Hub is here, and it's shipping.
Microsoft's Surface Hub is designed primarily for the enterprise, with the goal of helping teams accomplish more collaboratively. This isn't just some marketing fluff; Microsoft itself has been using Surface Hub in house for the same purposes it's promoting. Brian Hall, Microsoft's GM of Devices Marketing says about the Hub: "I can tell you confidently, our Surface team works together better because we have Surface Hub."
    image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages...urface_Hub.jpg
So how does Surface Hub help? As an "interactive whiteboard" of sorts but also much more. It will give meeting-goers the opportunity to take advantage of a number of Microsoft products, including of course Windows 10. Beyond that, collaboration tools include Skype for Business, Office, OneNote, and of course, Windows' 'Universal' apps. With a Hub in house (on the wall or on a stand), a user can grab their pen (or use their finger) to manipulate the content on screen. This in effect makes Surface Hub little different from a regular Surface tablet; it's the size that's different but there are also communication and team-connecting hooks here as well.

Check out a live demo of the Surface Hub in action that we captured at Microsoft's Innovation Center in Chicago recently.

Microsoft says that fields like healthcare, manufacturing, automotive, consulting, defense, finance, education, and design can all make good use of the Surface Hub, as it brings increased efficiency versus old-school AV presentation technology. So far, AstraZeneca, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and SHoP Architects have adopted and now swear by the Surface Hub.
    image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages...Hub_In_Use.jpg
In a specific example, Microsoft says that the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will be using software developed by Qwaltec so that the Surface Hub becomes a control center for doctors and medical staff, to help manage scheduling better. Let's just hope that these doctors don't have so much fun using the Hub that they become distracted and actually less productive somehow.

However, Microsoft also notes a couple of stats the company captured while Surface Hub was put into use by early adopters. For example, companies that put Hub to use found a 75% improvement in those joining remotely, and that 15-20 minutes were saved on average for the setup process. If you're in business and have ever had to join a conference call, chances are good that you understand how rarely they're pulled off without a hitch. Surface Hub can definitely help with some of those issues.
If you or your business are interested in snapping up a Surface Hub, you'll want to head here.
