Huawei P9 Max Spotted Running Kirin 950 As Benchmarking Scores Impress

Looks like Huawei P9 Max is going to be an upcoming gigantic sized variant of the company’s upcoming smartphone lineup and from the looks of the leaked benchmarks, it is going to pack impressive components underneath its hood.

Huawei P9 Max AnTuTu Benchmarking Scores Wrecks The Competition – Kirin 950 Definitely Going To Be Present Inside

According to a Chinese source, Huawei P9 Max is going to be sporting a massive 6.2 inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) and while the score you are about to see from AnTuTu is much lower than the score obtained by Huawei Mate 8 in our previous reported leak, it is still sufficient to overwhelm the competition. Given below are the image and comparison score details against the remaining chipsets present in Android powered smartphones right now, which happen to be none other than Exynos 7420 and Snapdragon 810.

Despite the fact that Huawei Mate 8 was able to score much higher, we also have to keep in mind that the smartphone has a resolution of 1080p, which will obviously put less stress on the processor and GPU, which is a Mali-T880 (with four GPU cores). If these benchmarking scores were not sufficient for you, then a Geekbench leak reported by us shows how Kirin 950 is able to make short work of both Exynos 7420 and Snapdragon 810 in both the single and multi-core test results.

As for the specifications of Kirin 950, they have been posted below:

    • 4 x Cortex-A72 cores running at a speed of 2.53GHz
    • 4 x Cortex-A53 cores running at a speed of 1.80GHz

Previously, we were under the impression that the clock speeds of Cortex-A72 were lower, but thankfully, users will be able to get more performance out of them thanks to the higher clock speed. Additionally, the chipset also features the following.

    • ARM Mali-T880MP4 GPU (features four GPU cores)
    • 6 LTE modem, with 300Mbps as its maximum download speed and 50Mbps being its maximum uploading speed
    • i5 co-processor

Furthermore, there will be dedicated DSP audio co-processor called a Tensilica Hi-Fi 4 DSP, which will deliver high quality audio. Kirin 950 will also be providing support for dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM, UFS 2.0, and eMMC 5.1 storage, and just so you know, these happen to be the latest version amongst their respective categories.
Before we forget, smartphone camera aficionados are going to have the time of their lives with future Huawei handsets because Kirin 950 will also support up to a 42 MP camera sensors. However, from what we know, the upcoming Huawei Mate 8 is going to be sport a 16MP rear shooter, so it will definitely be a while before we can see camera sensors of this magnitude present in mobile devices.

As for Huawei P9 Max, are you excited to see how this handset will fare against the competition? Let us know your thoughts.

Huawei P9 Could Come As Early As March 2016 – Impressive Specs Expected

Despite the release of Mate 8, Huawei does not want to waste any time as it preps to release the handset that will succeed this one. Ladies and gentleman, that smartphone is going to be known as none other than Huawei P9.

Huawei P9 Expected To Feature A Kirin 950 – It Could Very Well Sport The Company’s Own Custom Designed GPU

According to a source, Huawei P9 could come as early as March 2016, but it looks like there are going to be no specification differences between this handset and Mate 8, if you are concerning yourself over the chipset. This is because Huawei P9 is expected to feature a Kirin 950, which is the company’s own developed SoC, and features the following processor combination in ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture:

    • Quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A72
    • Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex A53

There is also 3GB of RAM present in the base model of this particular handset, which begs the question, is Huawei going to release several variants of its smartphone like it did with its P8? Looks like it is a possibility, so as a result, we could be seeing a total of three models being announced by the company (the screen sizes have been stated alongside the model name).
    Advertisements

    • Huawei P9 Lite (5.0 inch screen) and could feature 3GB of RAM
    • Huawei P9 (5.2 inch screen) and could feature 4GB of RAM
    • Huawei P9 Max (6.2 inch screen) and could feature 4GB of RAM

Out of all the three models, P9 Max is going to sport the largest battery capacity thanks to its sheer size, and we are confident that all models are going to be running Android Marshmallow 6.0 ‘out of the box’. A while ago, we discussed that Huawei is working on its own custom GPU, much like Apple, so there is a very high chance that we will seeing such a chip become a part of the specifications group when all models are announced. The Chinese manufacturer is also working on its own mobile platform called Kirin OS, but we highly doubt that these models are going to be running it, most likely because the company is well aware that it might not do well thanks to the superior market share currently hogged by Google’s Android platform.
Currently, we are unsure of the pricing of these three handsets, but looking at what strategy the company followed with its previous models, the Lite variant is going to be the most affordable out of the all three, and Max will be stamped with the biggest price tag. What are your thoughts on Huawei P9 and how do you think it will fare against the remaining competition? Do let us know your thoughts.

Huawei P9 Leaked Details Show Device Packing More RAM Than A laptop

Mate 8 is one powerful phablet, but Huawei is not yet finished with releasing another slew of devices and with 2016 kicking off, what better way to start off the year than with the announcement of its P9. According to the latest leak, P9 is going to be packing very impressive hardware, with one notable difference being that it will feature more RAM than your standard laptop.

Huawei P9 Could Be Announced During CES 2016 And Leaked To Pack 6GB of RAM

We did report that P9 could be announced as early as March 2016, but it looks like the company wants to expedite the process in order to get an early lead against the overwhelming competition. According to the leak, P9 is going to be sporting 6GB of RAM, and the memory will most likely be running at DDR4 speeds. However, the handset will feature the same SoC as its predecessor, Kirin 950.
Kirin 950 is definitely no slouch when it comes to performance, and our leaked benchmarking tests showed exactly that. Another thing to watch out for is that Huawei will most likely be announcing three variants of the device, since the exact same thing that was done by the Chinese firm with its P8. The expected screen sizes and RAM count that we feel will be present in the following models.

    • P9 Lite (5.0 inch screen size with 4GB RAM)
    • P9 (5.2 inch screen size with 6GB RAM)
    • P9 Max (6.8 inch screen size with 6GB RAM)

    Advertisements

Take the aforementioned details with grain of salt right now because that is what we believe will be a part of the physical and internal specifications of the three smartphone models. One notable difference between Huawei’s handset lineup will be that according to the source, the upcoming models will be incorporated with dual Sony’s Exmor IMX2X6 rear camera sensors, which is a quite an unusual model name for a sensor, to say the least. These dual camera sensors will each have a max. image resolution of 13MP, but unfortunately, there are no details provided concerning the front camera’s max. image resolution.
Kirin has been the backbone of the performance that you prominently see from the company’s mobile devices, and in addition to working on its own custom mobile OS, the manufacturer is also working on its own custom designed GPU, so let us hope that we get to hear some good news about it during CES 2016. So what exactly is going to be its price tag? Well, according to the source, P9 is going to have a 5,000 Yuan tag, which makes it equal to a whopping $767.83 USD. We guess that premium smartphones are getting more expensive with every passing year but Huawei might think about dialing down that price just a little bit.

What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts.

New Kirin 950 Benchmarking Scores Show That Huawei Is Working On A Revised Chipset – Faster Than Original SoC

With our latest benchmarking findings, Kirin 950 is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and Huawei is definitely not planning to stop there, because according to the latest benchmarking leak courtesy of Geekbench, the Chinese smartphone giant is planning to exceed the performance capabilities of its Kirin 950 chipset with a revised edition. Let us take a look at the benchmarking scores and see for ourselves.

Kirin 950 Revised Edition Could Be Present In Huawei P9 Family

According to the benchmarking leak from Geekbench, the chipset manages to obtain a single-core test result of 2018 points, and it performs even better in the multi-core test, as it should thanks to the presence of eight powerful cores; in total these eight cores are able to obtain a score a 7313 points. According to the benchmarking results, the clock speed of the processor is running at a frequency of 1.80GHz, but according to the previous specification sheets of Kirin 950, Cortex-A72 is running at a speed of 2.53GHz, meaning that the low clock speed is definitely showing the speed of the remaining Cortex-A53 cores that are running in ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. In short, the octa-core processor configuration of Kirin 950 is given as follows:

    • 4 x Cortex-A72 cores running at a speed of 2.53GHz
    • 4 x Cortex-A53 cores running at a speed of 1.80GHz

    Advertisements

While the following has not been confirmed, it is highly possible that the revised version of Kirin 950 is running its four Cortex-A72 cores at a much higher frequency as compared to those running in the original version. This is possibly one of the reasons why this particular revision is able to obtain a much higher score, but we will be updating you on this front as more leaks pour out. For now, we expect that if Huawei is actually working on such an SoC, then it will be present in the company’s P9 family, which comprises of the following (please note that it is not confirmed if the Chinese OEM will actually be working on these models, but since the company released three models in the past, we should automatically assume that it is going to be rolling out three new models in the near future as their successors).

With the release of these three smartphones, Huawei will be targeting each segment of the market, so let us hope that the prices are more or less equal to what we have laid out as estimates. Are you excited for the launch of Huawei P9 and its counterparts? Let us know your thoughts.

Huawei P9 smartphone should rock dual cameras and fingerprint scanner

After a successful run with the Nexus 6P, Huawei is back in the headlines with its purported P9 smartphone. According to the latest rumors, the Huawei P9 smartphone will feature dual cameras, a physical Home button, and a fingerprint scanner.

The dual camera setup will also feature a dual-LED flash, with a speaker on the bottom of the phone, too. The frame of the P9 smartphone will be made of metal, but we don't know if this will be featured on the back, or whether Huawei will use a sheet of glass. Inside, the P9 should rock a 5.2-inch 1080p display, the Kirin 950 processor, dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back, with a 3000mAh battery that should last most of the day.

We should expect Huawei to unveil the P9 smartphone at Mobile World Congress next month.

Huawei P9 phone has Kirin 955

    16nm FinFet plus 2.5Ghz 5.2 inch phone
Huawei is working on a Huawei P9 flagship phone that has a 5.2 Full HD 1920x1980 display and 2.5Ghz Kirin 955 SoC.

The Huawei Mate 8 has started to show up in reviews in January. This was the first phone launching with a Cortex-A72 based Kirin 950 SoC. Since this is a 6 inch device, it was not the smallest on the market but it got positive reviews.

The P9 flagship phone has a Kirin 955 and the name suggests it will have a slightly faster SoC. It comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD display too. The Kirin 950 has four Cortex-A72 cores at 2.3 GHz and four 1.8 GHz Cortex A53 cores. The GPU that drives the SoC is the Mali T880 MP4. The new Kirin 955 works at 2.5Ghz.

Gizmochina claims that the phone has 4GB Ram, 32GB/64GB storage, 12 megapixel dual rear cameras (for depth on field feature) and an eignt megaxpixel front camera. The phone should come with USB Type C, and a 2900 mAh battery with 5V 2A and fast charging support.

The Huawei P8 is expected to sell for about 2888 Yuan or $444 but this is subject to change. We thought the P9 flagship phone would appear on the February 21 before the e Mobile World congress press conference, but the source is confident that the phone will launch at a separate event after the Mobile World congress in Barcelona.

Huawei P9 Flagship Pictured With 5.2-inch Display And Dual Cameras

Competition is heating up in the high-end handset market thanks to some compelling options by Chinese manufacturers. Just last week, Xiaomi made a splash with its Mi 5, a decked out phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and a starting price of just $300. Now Huawei is answering the call for a flagship with its forthcoming P9, which has been spotted in the wild.

An anonymous source provided VentureBeat with a series of photographs and a full list of specs for the P9, one of several devices the company is working on. The P9, also known by its codename Eva, is expected to launch sometime in the first half of 2016. It's expected that Huawei will release at least four variants of the handset.

The one shown is the regular version of the P9. If the anonymous source's information is accurate, it will ship with a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display powered by HiSilicon's Kirin 950 System-on-Chip (SoC) with a Mali-T880 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The Kirin 950 is a fairly potent part consisting of four 2.53GHz cores and four 1.8GHz cores.

Huawei's P9 will also feature 32GB of internal storage, a capacious 3,900 mAh battery, USB Type-C connector, and a pair of 12-megapixel cameras on back. Having a dual-camera system will allow owners of the P9 to pull off some fancy photography tricks, like refocusing pictures after they've been takien (similar to Intel's RealSense system), simulated aperture adjustment, and more.

The source wasn't able to provide pricing or precise launch information, though it's expected the handset will come out sometime in the second quarter.

Huawei P9 MAX gets Kirin 955 SoC

    P9 settles for Kirin 950
April is the time when Huawei is set to launch three new phones, the Huawei P9 MAX, Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Lite.

Our colleagues received a few more details about new phones from Huawei and interestingly enough apart of obvious screen size difference all three phones comes with different SoCs.
The Huawei P9 MAX is the biggest with a 6.2-inch 2K display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and 12-megapixel dual rear cameras with optical image stabilization (OIS) and laser focus. The phone comes with a 3,000 mAh battery and a HiSilicon Kirin 955 SoC. This should be the fastest Kirin SoC to date, with an expected frequency between 2.3 and 2.5GHz.
The runner-up is the Huawei P9, a much smaller phone with a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The phone also shares the 12-megapixel dual rear camera with laser focus and 3,000 mAh battery but it uses Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC. The new Kirin 955 should work at 2.5GHz while the Kirin 950 works at 2.3GHz.

If you paid enough attention in the class, you will figure that these are the exact maximum speeds that MediaTek is reaching with its Helio X25 (2.5GHz) and X20 (2.3 GHz) SoCs. The maximum clock speed looks like a Cortex-A72 limitation as Huawei is using 16nm FinFET Plus manufacturing process but comes with four Cortex-A72 SoCs and four Cortex-A53 SoCs. We have to be be honest that compared to 1.8GHz maximal clock of Snapdragon 650, Kirin 950 and 955 pass with flying colours.
The last on the Huawei updated list is the Huawei P9 Lite. This is a 5-inch phone with Full HD 1920 x 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup but apparently without laser focus. The phone has a 2,500 mAh battery and comes with Qualcomm's hexa-core Snapdragon 650 SoC (2x ARM Cortex A72, 4x ARM Cortex A53).

Kirin 955 Will Be Present In Huawei P9 – More Firepower Than Mate 8?

After Kirin 950, Kirin 955 is the name given to the SoC that is going to be present inside the upcoming Huawei P9. Will it actually be able to deliver more performance as opposed to its predecessor, or has the chipset maker just rehashed the name?

Kirin 955 Shows Cortex-A72 Cores Running At A Speed Of 2.50GHz – Same As Kirin 950, But What Other Changes Are To Be Expected?

Huawei P9 was earlier rumored to be incorporated with RAM that would surpass the amount present in entry-level notebooks, but it was not to be, because the 5.2-inch smartphone expected to be announced in the coming weeks is going to feature 3GB of RAM. However, there are models going to be introduced alongside P9, and have been listed below, along with the amount of RAM they could be housing inside:

    • P9 Lite (5.0 inch screen size with 3GB RAM)
    • P9 Max (6.8 inch screen size with 6GB RAM)

One notable difference between Huawei’s handset lineup will be that according to the source, the upcoming models will be incorporated with dual Sony’s Exmor IMX2X6 rear camera sensors, which is a quite an unusual model name for a sensor, to say the least. These dual camera sensors will each have a max. image resolution of 12MP, but unfortunately, there are no details provided concerning the front camera’s max. image resolution.

So what exactly is going to be its price tag? Well, according to a leak that we previously covered, P9 is going to have a 5,000 Yuan tag, which makes it equal to a whopping $767.83 USD. We guess that premium smartphones are getting more expensive with every passing year but Huawei might think about dialing down that price just a little bit.
It’s a good thing that Huawei P9 will come running Android 6.0 right off the bat, and you do not see many devices sporting the latest operating system. Hopefully, consumers will not have to wait a millennia in order to witness their future devices updated to Android N. What did you think of the latest information regarding the smartphone and Kirin 955? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Huawei P9 phones capture photons with twin camera sensors

Huawei's next flagship smartphones, the P9 and the P9 Plus, might raise the bar in the smartphone camera arena. These phones use not one, but two 12MP camera modules to capture data. They then combine the input from these sensors to make potentially more detailed photos. One of those sensors is a traditional Bayer-color-array module, while the other captures only luminance (or tonal) data. Since that monochrome sensor doesn't have a color filter, each of its photo sites can collect more light.

According to The Verge, Huawei partnered with Leica Camera AG to design this system. It's tempting to view this partnership as nothing more than a branding exercise, but Leica has been down the unconventional-sensor road before with its M Monochrom black-and-white digital cameras. Huawei also claims that Leica lent its expertise to the design of the P9 cameras' optical systems. Leica knows a thing or two about optics, so it's possible the P9's lenses are better for the partnership.

The rest of the P9 family's spec sheet befits a high-end device. The phones are powered by Huawei's brand-new Kirin 955 SoC. The Kirin 955's CPU has four 2.5GHz Cortex-A72 cores and four more Cortex-A53s running at 1.8GHz. Graphics power comes by way of ARM's Mali-T880 GPU. That SoC is built using TSMC's 16-nm FinFET technology. Huawei backs up the Kirin 955 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The regular P9 uses a 5.2" IPS LCD screen with a 1080p resolution. We expect to learn more details about the P9 and P9 Plus soon.

Huawei announces flagship P9 featuring Leica-certified dual rear cameras

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei on Wednesday introduced its latest flagship, the Huawei P9. The handset is noteworthy as it packs a pair of rear-mounted cameras in a configuration we haven’t seen before.
The Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch full HD display (1,920 x 1,080) that is powered by its homegrown Kirin 955 octa-core SoC (4x 2.5GHz Cortex-A72 + 4x 1.8GHz Cortex-A53), a slightly better version of the chip it unveiled back in November. There is also 3GB of RAM in play if you go with the 32GB model or 4GB should you spring for the larger-capacity 64GB variant.
The real star of the show, however, is the aforementioned dual camera setup around back.

The Huawei P9 is equipped with two 12-megapixel rear-facing, Leica-branded cameras with laser autofocus. One of the cameras is dedicated to capturing color while the other works in monochrome. Together, they combine to produce an image that Huawei says exhibits vivid colors, excellent depth and great detail, even in low-light settings.
The dual camera approach also affords adjustability after the fact, letting you tweak the focus points after you’ve taken a picture - similar to Lytro’s approach.
If you recall, Huawei and Leica announced a strategic partnership a couple of months back in which they promised to “reinvent” smartphone photography. The P9 and its twin camera approach is the result of that partnership although as The Verge points out, Leica’s actual contribution is a bit of a mystery.

When probed for details, the publication was told that the two cameras have Leica certification. Asking what that meant, Huawei said that they were developed through a co-engineering process. When asked what that meant, the company said they worked together.
It is certainly intriguing but we’ll wait until we get to test them in person before proclaiming this is the smartphone to beat for camera-conscious buyers.

Elsewhere, the P9 features USB Type-C charging, a fingerprint sensor on the rear, a microSD card slot in Europe / a second SIM slot in China and other Asian markets and an 8-megapixel front-facing selfie cam. A 3,000mAh battery supplies juice while away from a charger.
Huawei also announced a P9 Plus with a slightly larger 5.5-inch display and a 3,400mAh battery pack. Both phones will ship running Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped in Huawei’s own EMUI 4.1 user interface.

The smartphones will arrive in China as well as select European and Middle East markets on April 16. Pricing starts at €599 ($680) for the standard P9 and €749 ($850) for its bigger brother. Buyers can choose from six color options on the P9 and four for the larger Plus version. No word yet on whether or not Huawei will bring its latest flagships to the US.

Huawei P9 And P9 Plus Flagship Smartphones Flaunt Kirin 955 SoC, Leica-Branded Dual Cameras

Huawei is kicking off its 2016 flagship refresh with a bang; well, two bangs to be accurate. The company today unveiled the 5.2-inch P9 and the 5.5-inch P9 Plus, both of which come standard will dual cameras on the rear of the device – a trend that Huawei says will shortly spread to other flagship smartphones from competing OEMs. Those dual cameras are the stars of the show, as Huawei teamed up with Leica for their development. Well, we should clarify by saying the the cameras have received “Leica certification”, whatever that means. The bottom line is that you’ll receive one traditional 12MP camera which is joined by a second 12MP camera that only has a monochrome sensor. The two cameras used in conjunction are said to improve contrast ratio in photos by up to 50 percent (the monochrome camera doesn’t have RGB filtering, so it’s able to capture more light). You’ll find a third camera, an 8MP unit, up front for selfie duties.

As for the smartphones themselves, both the P9 and the P9 Plus feature sleek, aluminum unibody designs, which is par for the course in Android land these days. On the hardware front, both P9 and the P9 Plus feature FHD displays instead of the QHD resolutions you typically find in today’s flagships. However, that restraint on the display front should help relieve some stress on the 3,000 mAh and 3,400 mAh batteries found in the P9 and P9 Plus respectively.
Both smartphones are powered by a Kirin 955 octa-core processor (four 2.5GHz Cortex-A72, four 1.8GHz Cortex-A53) and come with 64GB of storage storage standard. The P9 gets 3GB of RAM, while the larger P9 Plus ups the ante with 4GB. On European models of the smartphones, you’ll find a microSD slot for expansion, while Chinese-market phones eschew the microSD slot in favor of a second microSIM port.

Other features include a USB-C port, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, fast-charging support and triple antennas to improve reception. Both smartphones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but for better or worse, Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 interface is layered on top.
The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are priced at £449 and £549 respectively and will be available in China and in Europe. Unfortunately, a U.S. release is not currently on the radar screen for Huawei.
