    E3 2016

EA is skipping E3 2016, instead hosting EA Play 2016 off-site

Electronic Arts won't be attending E3 in the usual fashion this year. Instead of the normal booth inside the expo hall in Los Angeles, they're hosting an off-site event that's more accessible to their fans, EA Play 2016.

EA Play is a departure from their usual expose at E3, where they generally have a large area reserved inside the Los Angeles Convention Center that's filled with their latest games. This year they'll have EA Play, which is a three-day event that'll be hosted off-site at Club Nokia which is near the Los Angeles Convention Center. Their fan-oriented event will run from June 12th through June 14th. At the same time, a similar event will occur in London on the 12th of June.

Another big change EA is making is moving their normal Monday press conference to the Sunday before E3, presumably to kick off their new event with their new game annoucements. This year we expect to see more information about Mass Effect: Andromeda, despite possible delays.

At the EA Play event, there'll be playable demos of a large selection of their games, live events, competitions and even a chance to snag some exclusive memorabilia. This might be a smart move, because then it allows everyone to enjoy the fruits of their labors, as opposed to just the select few (read: many) that get to attend E3.

Bethesda E3 Showcase Announced; “Are You Game?”

Ahead of the E3 this year, developer Bethesda Softworks has announced that they will be organizing their own show at the event – the Bethesda E3 Showcase.

Just like last E3, Bethesda will be organizing their own conference during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. The news was announced by Bethesda through the developer’s official Twitter account, and via a tweet from Bethesda’s VP, Pete Hines.

    Are you game? #BE3

The Bethesda conference will be held in Los Angeles on June 12th at 7:00 P.M.

During last year’s conference, Bethesda officially unveiled Fallout 4.
“We know what this game means to everyone,” said Game Director, Todd Howard, “The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever. We’ve never been more excited about a game, and we can’t wait to share it.”
It’s unknown what Bethesda will be showing off during the upcoming conference, but we’re hoping that they will share more details on the Fallout 4 DLC that has been promised a while back. Downloadable content for Fallout 4 was already confirmed back in September when Bethesda detailed the game’s season pass, which is said to include every piece of DLC that Bestheda makes for the game.
We’ve always done a lot of DLC for our games. We love making them and you always ask us for more. To reward our most loyal fans, this time we’ll be offering a Season Pass that will get you all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do for just $30.
More recently, game director Todd Howard stated that Fallout DLC would be coming “deep into next year”.
“We’re doing it”, game director Todd Howard said during Fallout’s Red Carpet Event, when asked about post-launch plans and DLC. “We have a bunch coming next year. This game is huge, but it’s not just this launch. It’s going to be well deep into next year.”
Other possibilities are: Dishonored 2, and something related to the Elder Scrolls franchise.

MercurySteam Working On Projects To Be Unveiled Very Soon, Way Before E3

Spanish studio MercurySteam, mainly known for its work on the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow trilogy (Lords of Shadow 1&2 + Mirror of Fate), has confirmed in a series of tweets to be working on multiple projects. They should be announced very soon, too, and a lot earlier than at E3 2016.

    @NpeyLoL No, we aren't.

The official website has been stuck with the following status for months:

Exploring new worlds, fighting strange creatures, discovering new heroes. Expect news soon.
Given the background image, rumors started circulating about the studio working on a new CONTRA game, but nothing has been confirmed since.
It’s also interesting to note that Dave Cox, Executive Producer of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games, just yesterday mentioned on Twitter that he also has big news coming on “AAA games”.

    Dave Cox @kiddracul
Sorry I've been quiet. I've got some big news coming soon... all being well #AAAGames

Dave Cox left Konami in August 2014, but when I asked him if this had to do with the new game by MercurySteam he liked the tweet, not to mention he had previously retweeted MercurySteam’s teases about their new projects.
Stay tuned on WCCFtech and we’ll be sure to provide official news on this topic as soon as possible.

The PC Gaming Show is coming back, will take place during E3 2016

During E3 2015, PC Gamer hosted the awesome PC Gaming Show, which was an event for all things PC gaming. This year, it's coming back, and once again it'll happen during E3 in June.

PC Gamer says: "With the help of all the feedback and support everyone gave the event in 2015, we're looking forward to bringing you an even better show than last year. In 2015 it was really important to us to get a big variety of participants on stage to help convey the spectrum of exciting stuff happening on PC, but an inevitable effect of that was that we ran quite long".

They continued: "This year's show will be more focused, but packed with tons of new announcements and exclusive reveals". As for participants, we don't know who will be at this year's PC Gaming Show, but we can expect some big names - last year, we saw AMD, Microsoft, and many game developers join in on the PC gaming fun.

The show will be livestreamed on Monday, June 13 @ 12PM PT / 3PM ET / 8PM UK.

Rockstar and 2K Games gearing up for something 'big' at E3 this year

Rockstar Games and 2K Games are headed to E3 this year "in a big way", the CEO of 2K, Strauss Zelnick told MCV. That means newly announced IP's or a huge celebration of what we know is coming.

Probably not the announcement we'll actually see

And they already have some good titles on the way. Battleborn is an exciting new addition from 2K's own Gearbox, though they've been featuring that quite a bit lately, so it logically doesn't make sense to see that at the forefront. It was last year. So perhaps they'll have a number of other new and interesting working titles to talk about, things we may haven't seen yet, or at least in full form.

We're positive that we'll see the next round of sports games, and they may even have some announcements about the expansion of GTA Online, an incredibly successful venture for the Rockstar and their parent, 2K. Since eSports also seems to be the future, it could be that 2K is interested in a larger partnership or even their own sports league that goes beyond the bounds of what they already do.

Regardless, they'll be big presence at E3 this year and whatever they show should be quite interesting.

Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony will be at E3 2016, along with many more

The ESA has just published the full list of E3 2016 exhibitors, giving us a nice prelude to what the show has to offer in June.

All of the biggest publishers, developers, and console-makers will be at this year's E3. The Big Three--Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo--will take the stage in full force, debuting their respective hardware and content. We'll probably see Nintendo tease some new details on its mysterious cross-platform NX console, and Sony will definitely discuss its PlayStation VR hardware. Microsoft, on the other hand, will most likely push its new Windows-centric Xbox-and-PC approach--but hopefully we'll see them address the awful Windows Store.

One of the more interesting about the list is that CD Projekt RED is showing up. The Witcher 3's latest Blood and Wine expansion is set to release before the show, so we'll probably see some new Cyberpunk 2077 action. Oculus will show up to tout its Oculus Rift headset, but HTC is absent. However you slice it, this year's E3 looks super exciting.

Call of Duty publisher Activision and EA won't have booths at this year's E3

E3, one of the gaming industry’s biggest and most prestigious trade shows, has just received some more bad news. After EA revealed last month that it would not have its own booth at the event, Call of Duty publisher Activision has just announced that it won’t have a space of its own at the show either.
Activision pointed out that it will be showing off Infinity Ward’s new Call of Duty game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo event in June, but it will be at Sony’s booth, rather than a dedicated one of its own.
"In June, we're going to be at E3 showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s ambitious new game," Activision said in the blog post. "We're looking forward to sharing exciting new details about the next great Call of Duty game in partnership with our friends at PlayStation. We're proud to be participating in this premier video game event, but won't have an Activision booth on the show floor."
Electronic Arts, the world’s biggest games publisher, said last month that it wouldn’t have a booth at E3; instead, the company plans to host two public gameplay events, called EA Play, in Los Angeles and London on Sunday, June 12 - two days before E3.
Like Activision, EA will still have a behind the scenes presence at E3, and will be hiring rooms in the business area to meet with media, clients, and partners.
While EA suggests its reason for not having a booth at E3 is so that fans, who aren’t allowed on the trade show floor, can enjoy the EA Play events, it’s likely that the most influential factor in both companies’ decision was money. Having a large, physical E3 presence can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, an amount that the publishers would rather avoid.
Whether this is a one-off on Activision and EA's part and both firms return to the trade show next year, or if more companies decide to follow in the publishers' footsteps and abandon their E3 booths, we’ll have to wait and see.

Blizzard could be making another Diablo game

As a die-hard fan of the Diablo ARPG series, I'm incredibly excited to report that Blizzard may be making a new chapter of the landmark franchise.

A batch of new job listings pretty much confirm that a new Diablo is in the works, with Blizzard hiring a senior concept artist, a lighting artist, and a senior character artist for an "unnannounced project". Blizzard pretty much gives it away by explicitly stating that the ideal candidates will be responsible for molding the Diablo universe.

"Blizzard Entertainment is seeking exceptionally skilled and passionate senior concept artists to help drive the vision of characters and world's in our next hit game! We're looking for artists that are self-starting, versatile, and enjoy being part of a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate shares our sensibilities, loves dark medieval world's, and feels there are countless stories left to tell in the Diablo universe!" So why do we think it's a new sequel rather than a new Diablo III expansion pack? Blizzard has been unleashing a ton of free content updates over the past few months to beef up Diablo 3 on PC and consoles, and after the huge Reaper of Souls expansion, the major consensus is that D3 isn't getting another add-on. Besides, the company outright says this will be the "next hit game", so I think it's Diablo IV.

We might see Activision tease some info at E3 2016, but Blizzard wasn't on the list of exhibitors, so we might have to wait until Blizzcon 2016 in November.

wo More Publishers Not Attending E3 2016

E3 is one of the biggest gaming events in the world, but it seems that E3 2016 isn’t going to be showing off some of the biggest names in the industry, and that’s a worrying sign for the event organizers and visitors. Following news earlier this week that EA and Activision won’t be having their own booth at all this year, it now appears that both Disney and Wargaming won’t be in attendance either.
Generally, you might think that if they haven’t got a game ready to show, what’s the point in showing up? However, these are huge studios that have always got something in the pipeline as well as many existing AAA franchises to show off. It’s not that they don’t want to, but that E3 is often a multi-million dollar investment in terms of showing off hardware, staff, promotional materials and more. More often these days, we’re seeing publishers and manufacturers hold their own, much smaller and more affordable events where they can ensure everyone is focused on what they want them to be.
“From a company perspective, we’re focusing a large majority of activities on events focused on our players and community,” said a Wargaming representative in an email to VentureBeat. “Whether it’s a small group of players or hundreds at one of our player gatherings, they’re our main priority.
So it seems that Wargaming are wanting to be more community focused, which certainly makes sense. But so too are Disney, who said they want to do “additional direct to fan engagements through the summer this year,” according a spokesperson contacted by VentureBeat.
Speaking to Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications at the Entertainment Software Association, Venturebeat tried to get the perspective of the show runners.
“Individual companies will make their own decisions in each iteration of E3,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications at the Entertainment Software Association. “Overall, E3 for the past several years as been among the best shows we have ever experienced. E3 remains a dynamic and valuable and preeminent show of its kind in the world for video games, entertainment, and innovation. It’s still the place to be. We had 27 companies showing virtual reality at E3 [2015], and we expect a similarly strong showing of that technology this year. It remains a very important place to be. We dominate social media. We dominate a lot of traditional media. It’s a launch pad without peer in this industry and entertainment across the board.”
E3 is far from going under, but it’s an interesting trend, as with such big names dropping out, attendance could be lower, causing other companies to play it safe and drop out too.

Wargaming abandons E3 show floor, follows EA, Disney and Activision

The E3 showfloor is getting increasingly lonely it seems, with Wargaming.net taking a page out of Activision and Disney's book. They too have abandoned the main floor and have instead opted to set-up shop elsewhere for more player-focused events.

They say that it doesn't really make sense considering their free-to-play business model. Speaking to VentureBeat, a representative said that "It's a show that is very centralized on retail product, and as a free-to-play digital download gaming company, we've realized that while the show may be a good fit for lots of other publishers and developers, it's currently not a great fit for us." They have a strong fan-base that is excited to see and hear about the franchises they have, but E3 might not be the venue to do it.

More personal and focused, off-site events might be a better way to show their appreciation. "From a company perspective, we're focusing a large majority of activities on events focused on our players and community," a representative from Wargaming told VentureBeat. Meaning that they want to keep the players at the forefront, giving them the attention they deserve for continuing to play their games.

ESA Hits Back At E3 Critics

It's one thing to have E3 attendees complain about the show but, when vendors start pulling out, it might be time to listen to what people are saying.

"E3 is beyond relevant, it is essential and critical to the game and entertainment industry calendar. It changes, it has never been a stagnant show and this year is no different. Last year if you asked most people, in the aftermath of E3 how they found it, many will tell you it was the best E3 they can remember. But in the ramp up to that show, I was answering the same sort of questions that you just put to me.

Fallout 4 DLC Easter egg teases E3 announcements

Fallout 4 players have found a curious Easter egg in Fallout 4's Automatron DLC that could point to an E3 2016 announcement.

While scouring The Mechanist's lair, Geeksnack came across a very special Vault-Tec lunchbox. The lunchbox in question has the word (or name) "JUNE" written upon it in colorful letters. As we all know, E3 2016 is held in June, so this could be Bethesda's cute way of hinting that a major Fallout-related announcement will be made at the event. After all, the studio is holding their very own pre-E3 event on June 12.

So what could this mean? I'm thinking if it's a genuine hint, Bethesda will just unveil a concrete release date for Fallout 4 console mods. The studio confirmed that Fallout 4 mods on PS4 and Xbox One may release as early as May, but we still have no actual info on how console mods will work. I expect Bethsoft to unveil the mod infrastructure as well as a release date at their E3 show.

If you're feeling adventurous, we've included exact directions on where to find the lunchbox below. I had such a hard time finding it that I thought it might be a fake, but I can assure you that it's real. After opening the lunchbox, I was given a tasty Nuka Cola Quantum. Sadly the lunchbox is marked as an everyday Vault Tech lunchbox, and the "JUNE" text disappears after you open it.

Here's where to find this mysterious Easter egg: Go to the heart of the Mechanist's Lair, where you have the showdown with the villain While facing the Mechanist's glass enclosure, go up the stairs on the right Follow the stairs up and turn right towards the Research Wing Once you get to the Research Wing, immediately turn right and go up the stairs towards the Facilities Wing The lunchbox will be in the Facilities Wing, at Power Substation B to the left. Drop down all the way and run towards the left, towards the power pylons. You'll see a corridor, and you should be taking about 11 RADS per second Follow the corridorr and the lunchbox will be on a ladder towards the right
