OneDrive 4.7 for Windows Phone Adds Multi-Account Support, More

Microsoft released a major update to OneDrive for Windows Phone, adding support for multiple personal accounts, a new photo albums view and optional PIN code security protection. This is a pretty serious update.
    New features include:
Multiple personal account support. In previous versions of OneDrive for Windows Phone, you could configure multiple business accounts (OneDrive for Business) but only one consumer OneDrive account. Now, you can configure multiple personal accounts too. (You can’t even do this in the Modern or desktop OneDrive solutions.)

Photo albums view. Previously available only on the web, you can now create, view and share photo albums from the Windows Phone app. Microsoft notes that albums aren’t like traditional folders, but doesn’t really explain why: they’re just virtual folders like we’ve had in Windows since Vista. But aside from aggregating photos from around your OneDrive storage, albums also provide a more pleasant experience for view photos with larger thumbnails, edge-to-edge photos, and a nice collage view.

PIN code support. You can now optionally add a PIN code to the app so that others can’t access, change, or delete your files.

OneDrive 4.7 is available for Windows Phone 7.5, 8, and 8.1 for free from the Windows Phone Store.

Windows Store app prices are increasing in April

Prices of applications in the Windows Store on both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone are set to rise on April 13 for the vast majority of countries, as Microsoft is re-adjusting regional pricing across the globe to account for changes in currency exchange rates.
The change in app prices can be attributed to the rising value of the US dollar against many European currencies, which is why some nations in the region will be hit by price hikes of 20 per cent or more. Among the hardest hit are the United Kingdom, Russia, Scandinavian nations, Mexico, Poland and several South American countries.
Microsoft isn't raising the prices of apps for their home country, the United States, as the US Dollar is the company's base currency. App prices in regional Windows Stores are set relative to the US dollar, so any changes you see will reflect the current exchange rate.
For developers, the changes to app prices will occur automatically, so it might be worth heading into the Dev Center to see if any adjustments need to be made.
Microsoft isn't the only company to recently change the prices for their products based on fluctuating currencies. Two weeks ago, Apple raised the prices of their smartphones, laptops and more in many countries across the globe, in some cases pushing prices up considerably. If the US dollar continues to strengthen, expect other companies to follow suit.

Microsoft Apps And Services To Grace Android-Based Cyanogen OS Thanks To Key Strategic Partnership

Cyanogen and Microsoft have struck a deal after all, it just doesn't entail a $70 million investment from the latter into the former as discussed earlier this year. Microsoft ultimately decided against trading a cash infusion in exchange for a stake in Cyanogen, though the two have now come to terms on a deal that will see Microsoft's service integrated across Cyanogen OS.

As part of this newly formed partnership, Cyanogen will integrate and distribute Microsoft's consumer apps and services across core categories -- these include productivity, messaging, utilities, and cloud-based services. Or more specifically, look for Bing services, Skype, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, and Microsoft Office to all be a part of Cyanogen OS.

This is a smart arrangement for both sides. For Cyanogen, it adds credibility and popular tools to its custom Android OS, as well as another differentiating feature compared to Google's stock Android. And for Microsoft, this partnership gets its software into the hands of more Android users. Keep in mind that Microsoft also receives royalties on many Android devices, so this is yet another way to monetize the open source platform.

"People around the world use Cyanogen's operating system and popular Microsoft services to engage with what matters most to them on their mobile devices," said Kirt McMaster, CEO of Cyanogen Inc. "This exciting partnership with Microsoft will enable us to bring new kinds of integrated services to mobile users in markets around the world."

No specific release date has been given for the integration of Microsoft's apps and services into Cyanogen OS, though it will occur sometime "later this year."

Windows Phone Finally Gets WhatsApp Voice Calling

After Android and iOS, the Windows gap has been fulfilled by WhatsApp for its voice calling feature. Its been a while since the feature made its debut on Android and then after a couple of days, WhatsApp made it available to iOS. Henceforth, the wait for Windows Phone users have finally come to rest. The application is available on Windows Phone Store, users can either update or download the WhatsApp app.

The updated version of WhatsApp yet features a ‘delete all history’ option that enables users to erase outgoing or incoming entries. Along with this, WhatsApp does not support video chats to date as well. Hence, any updates on this regard will be updated.

Since the world is going mobile, different companies are competing with each other over providing similar features such as voice calling feature such as Skype, LINE, Tango, Viber and many other. Reports from April and the Press states that Video Calling feature might soon be coming to WhatsApp on Windows Phone and probably other platforms as well. The video calling feature will be connected to Skype which states that video calls would be integrated over Skype transmission called ‘Call via Skype’.

Windows Phone Has A Dedicated VR Title 'InMind'

Recently, mobile phones have been the focus of attention for many VR developers because of the easy access to products like Google Cardboard. Cardboard has been available for Android and iPhone 5/6 for over a year now, but Windows Phone was essentially devoid of any VR love.
Now, with the release of InMind VR for Windows Phone 8.1, Lumia owners can also enjoy virtual reality. InMind VR is the first game to be ported over to Windows. The game takes you into a human brain to hunt down faulty neurons. You fly around a neural network where you'll find nerve cells, cytoplasm, tubes and other components that make up the brain. As you fly through the brain, you'll find diseased neurons identified by a red color. Simply turn towards the target and lock your gaze on it to attack.

    Lumia VR
To play the game you will need to have a Cardboard-ready goggle set of some kind and a Windows Phone. Not all phones are compatible, though -- only those that feature a gyroscope and accelerometer will work.
The company has not fully elaborated on the particular models it works with, but the Lumia 540 Dual Sim, 640 XL and 830 were specifically listed in Microsoft's blog post about the game, so you can expect those models to pass muster. Some users have complained in the comments of the game's store page that there are issues with latency on the 930, and tracking issues on 1520 and 810 Lumia phones reportedly send players into a constant left-hand spin.
If you would like to try InMind VR, the game is available for free from Microsoft's store.

Reddit App for Windows 10 Gets Another Update, Brings Major Speed Improvements

Popular Reddit app, Readit, was recently updated for Windows. Bringing in Jump Lists and several bug fixes, it also brought in some page load and speed bump issues with it. Affecting users of Lumia 920 specifically, the developer has pushed out another update bringing “major speed improvements” to all the Windows Phone devices.

Reddit app for Windows 10 updated again:

Readit version 3.2.0.0 introduced Jump Lists support for desktop. It also brought in several other new features, however, due to some performance issues, developer Caleb Keith had to send another update today fixing the speed problems. Following are the “general additions” that previous update introduced to Readit Windows app:

    • Jump lists are now supported for desktop. Favorites are added as a group and synced to that list for quick access.
    • You can now set the flair of your own submissions (mobile: use the post content appbar menu, desktop: use the ellipsis menu of a post)
    • The flair dropdown now shows (cssclass) – (default text/current text) when choosing flairs
    • The random NSFW button will no longer appear when you have hide all nsfw content enabled in settings
    • Updated the desktop titlebar based on /u/PhilDunphy23’s concept

Today’s update to the Windows 10 app brings Readit to version 3.2.5.0. You can find the complete changelog below:

    Performance
•Major improvements in page navigation speed for all pages
•Major improvements in post viewing speed and speed of backing out of a post

Group video calling coming to Skype mobile, pre-registration on now

The "next evolution" of Skype is apparently group video calling on mobile, which comes about six years after 1 on 1 video calling on mobile, and 10 years after Skype video calling on non-mobile devices.

The new feature -- which supports Android, iPhone, iPad, and Windows 10 Mobile platforms -- isn't public yet, but you can pre-register here for a "sneak peek". It's not clear if you'll be able to try it immediately or if there's a wait period, but try for yourself and let us know what happens.

Microsoft Outlines How to Easily Port iOS Apps to Windows 10 Devices

Microsoft’s Windows Store is currently empty, if truth be told. The best way to fill it up with apps that are loved by everyone on Android and iOS is to build tools that help developers bring the same stuff over to Windows, without doing any hard work. To get more apps in the Store, Microsoft is doing exactly that.

How to port iOS apps to Windows 10, the official way:

Microsoft apparently wants to see more iOS apps making their way to Windows. In order to push iOS app developers consider porting their apps to Windows 10, the company has shared a tutorial today outlining steps to easily port iOS apps to Windows 10.
Codenamed Project Islandwood, the blog post showcases developers how to create an app for iOS and then port them to Windows 10 super easily. The tutorial talks about steps to create a basic to-do list app in Xcode, and then moves forward to use the Windows Bridge for iOS tools on the apps to make it work on Windows 10. This to-do list designed in the tutorial is a universal app making it work on all Windows 10 PC and mobile devices. Project Islandwood, or the bridge tools, have been available for several months now as an open source project on GitHub.
    Advertisements

While the blog is technical and useful only to app developers, here is what you will require to port iOS apps to Windows 10:

    • A PC running Windows 10, with Visual Studio 2015 and the Windows Bridge for iOS installed. You can download Visual Studio from the Windows Dev Center and find the latest release of the bridge on GitHub here.
    • A Mac running Mac OS X 10.11 with Xcode 7 installed. If you want to run the iOS project on an actual iOS device, you’ll also need a paid Apple Developer account.

Earlier, we heard a lot about Project Astoria, Microsoft’s way of bringing Android apps on board the Windows 10. The code of Astoria was found in some of the Windows 10 Mobile builds released to Insider members last year. However, there have been no news or updates on this project. There have also been some third-party apps helping to run Android apps on Windows 10, however, officially there doesn’t seem to be any support. Currently, it looks like Project Islandwood is Redmond’s sole focus as far as bringing more apps in the Windows Store is concerned. An earlier report from 9to5mac shared that the “iOS App Store now earns 75 percent more revenue than the Google Play Store.”
Windows 10 Mobile was expected to launch this month, however, has now been delayed until “late February,” according to some reports from carriers.

    Boa noite,

Ora aqui fica ela...

Microsoft em 2011 (take 1 reboot story) - Hey pessoal! Nada a haver! Siga marinha!

Microsoft em 2013 (take 2 reboot story) - Minha gente! Brutal!!! Toca a restaurar a loja do 0!

Microsoft em 2015 (take 3 reboot story) - People!!! Comé??? Olha aqui fresquinho! Windows 10 Mobile!

Resultado... 2% mercado a nível mundial.

    Veremos...

    Cumprimentos.
