Nvidia to Speed Up Launch of GeForce GTX Titan – Reports - X-bit labs (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/graphics/display/20130213151212_Nvidia_to_Speed_Up_Launch_of_GeForc e_GTX_Titan_Reports.html)
Nvidia Corp. has decided to speed up the launch of its highly-anticipated flagship graphics card known as the GeForce GTX Titan. The new product will be reportedly unleashed a week earlier than the company originally planned, on Monday, the 18th of February, next week. The unique product based on the world’s largest graphics chip ever produced is projected to deliver new performance breakthroughs. Unfortunately, only a limited quantity will be made.
Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan will clearly set up performance records for single-chip graphics cards for quite a while thanks to its massive chip with 2688 stream processors, 224 texture units and 48 raster operating units. In a bid to underline the individuality of the graphics board, it will come equipped with 6GB of extremely-fast GDDR5 memory running at 6GHz and connected using 384-bit bus. The code-named GK110 graphics chip, which consists of over 7 billion of transistors and is 521mm2 large, will operate at 875MHz, which is not bad given its complexity.
The GeForce GTX Titan will not belong to any formal product series since it will a limited edition product that will be made in quantity of around 10 thousand units and will be sold only by Asustek Computer and EVGA, according to the Bright Side of News web-site.
Based on the recent rumours, the GeForce GTX Titan will not beat the dual-chip GeForce GTX 690 or Radeon HD 7990 in benchmarks, which means that gamers looking for maximum performance should not care about the new product unless they have problems with multi-GPU configuration of the model 690.
Being based on the graphics processing unit originally developed for high-performance computing and tailored for maximum TFLOPS, the GeForce GTX Titan will remain a collectible item with record-setting performance that will be appreciated by extreme hardware enthusiasts much more than by gamers.
Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.
