Ubisoft has released its financial report for the first-half of its FY15, with the firm noting a 65% increase in sales.

Sales for the first half of 2014-15 came to €484.2 million, up 65.1% compared with the €293.3 million year-over-year.

During Q2 of FY15, the firm reported €124.1 million in sales, a 42.9% decline, versus €217.7 million for the same period the prior year.

The press release highlighted 9 million sold-in units for Watch Dogs, which means shipped to stores, basically.

Ubisoft also highlighted digital sales growth of 90.4% with €134.7 million in revenue for the sector. Digital sales made up 27.8% of total sales for the period.

The firm’s back catalog remained stable at €113.7 million, thanks to the performance of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Far Cry 3 and Rayman Legends.

A call to investors will take place soon, and if anything interesting comes out of it, we’ll let you know.

Obrigação da usar uPlay;
DLCs atrás de DLCs;
Jogos lançados à pressa, sem optimização;

E guess what...

Ubisoft bans paid game license keys without warning

<article>Ubisoft has taken the questionable action of banning gamers without warning over the last several weeks. The issue stems from Ubisoft's distaste for several services that sell game licenses at steep discounts.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43150_01_ubisoft-bans-paid-license-keys-without-warning.png (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43150_01_ubisoft-bans-paid-license-keys-without-warning_full.png)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43150_01_ubisoft-bans-paid-license-keys-without-warning.png

The affected users have had their licenses for popular games, such as Far Cry 4 and AC: Unity, revoked without warning. The issue stems from the fact that these gamers purchased their keys from services such as G2A.com and Kinguin. G2A.com and Kinguin provide steep discounts for game licenses by purchasing license keys in countries with reduced prices, then making them available to anyone globally.

It's disconcerting to see Ubisoft targeting end users, instead of the companies undertaking the questionable buying/selling policies. It is certainly possible that many who purchase the games are simply unaware that these sites are redistributing game keys to disparate regions, or that there is an issue with the practice.

Ubisoft's tactic appears to be geared at placing pressure on the distributors. In response to a scathing thread on the Ubisoft forums, Ubisoft simply tweeted that users should contact the company that issued the key for a resolution. This is hardly acceptable, Ubisoft has banned users who purchased keys with absolutely no warning, and many likely had no idea there was any risk in purchasing the game. Ubisoft should look for a more palatable resolution, such as warning users that any future licenses on their account from these distributors will be denied, but allowing users to keep their original license.

UBISOFT® REPORTS THIRD QUARTER 2014-15 SALES - Record third-quarter sales, coming in above target at €810 million (https://www.ubisoftgroup.com/en-US/press/detail.aspx?cid=tcm:99-193929-16&ctid=tcm:95-27313-32)

Sales for the third quarter of 2014-15 came to €809.7 million, up 55.8% (or 49.5% at
constant exchange rates) compared with the €519.7 million recorded for third-quarter 2013-14.

For the first nine months of fiscal 2014-15, sales totaled €1,293.9 million versus €813.0 millionin the corresponding prior-year period, representing an increase of 59.2% (or 58.3% at constant exchange rates).

The third-quarter sales figure was higher than the target of approximately €730 million
announced when Ubisoft released its first-half 2014-15 results. This performance reflects:

-A sharp increase in market share to 12.8% for 2014 (from 9.6% in 2013).

- A very good performance delivered by the two Assassin’s Creed® opuses, Far Cry® 4
and The Crew®, with respective sales of 10 million, 7 million and 2 million units (sellin):

- Far Cry 4 was voted “Best Shooter” at "The Games Awards 2014".

- Assassin’s Creed Unity won the prize for best “Character Animation in a Video
Game” at the Annie Awards.

- To date, The Crew has recorded the best sales for the racing games released in
late 2014.

- A solid showing from Just Dance® with 4 million units sold (sell-in).

- The continued success of Watch Dogs®, with 10 million units sold (sell-in) since its
release. Watch Dogs is the biggest launch ever of a new IP in the EMEA region and the
second largest launch in the United States.

- A 157.0% surge in digital segment revenues to €138.0 million in the third quarter. For
the first nine months of 2014-15, revenues generated by the digital segment came to
€274.1 million, up 120.3% year on year, and representing 21.2% of Ubisoft’s total
sales compared with 15.3% in the same period of 2013-14.

- A robust 25.9% increase in back-catalog sales to €67.1 million in the third quarter. For
the first nine months of the fiscal year, back-catalog sales rose 6.1% to €181.9 million.

Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, said "In 2014, Ubisoft offered gamers the most
diversified line-up in the industry, with titles such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, Child of Light, Far Cry 4, Just Dance 2015, The Crew, Trials Fusion and Frontier, Valiant Hearts and Watch Dogs. This uniquely varied offering was also recognized for its overall quality. As a result we achieved a third-quarter performance that was well above target and we expect to generate a record level of free cash flow for 2014-15. We are now capitalizing on the investments we have made over the past several years to further develop our creative strengths, boost our marketing impact and extend our digital footprint. Our performance is all the more impressive given that it is wholly the result of Ubisoft’s teams. Each of these successful games was developed by our in-house studios and we own our brands, which means that our destiny is in our own hands and we are internalizing the value created for our shareholders.”

Yves Guillemot concluded by saying "2015-16 should see a return to growth in the consoles market, in a more competitive games environment and with a substantial installed base for both Xbox One and PLAYSTATION 4. Against this backdrop, Ubisoft will be offering an exceptional line-up and we intend to drive player engagement further through high-potential live services for our games across consoles, PC and mobile."

Outlook

Sales for the fourth quarter of 2014-15

Ubisoft expects fourth-quarter 2014-15 sales to amount to approximately €146.0 million, down by approximately 25% compared with the fourth quarter of 2013-14, which saw the release of South ParkTM The Stick of TruthTM.

Full-year 2014-15

Ubisoft has raised its sales and non-IFRS operating income targets for full-year 2014-15. The sales target is now approximately €1,440 million (versus the previous target of at least €1,400 million) and the new non-IFRS operating income target is approximately €165 million (compared with the previous target of at least €150 million). In addition, the Group expects Free Cash Flow generation to reach more than €150 million.
Full-year 2015-16 Ubisoft is standing by its target for non-IFRS operating income to reach at least €200 million.

Ubisoft Meeting Reveals More of the Same

Ubisoft held their semi-annual financial meeting with investors to discuss the end of fiscal year 2014-2015. They mentioned the strong numbers for Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Far Cry 4 for the holiday season and pointed out that they are in the process of developing new franchises that follow the same formula. It was noted that there has been huge success for their open-world titles in 2014, and the formulaic approach to mission variety is the major reason for this.
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Assassins-Creed-Rogue-635x357.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Assassins-Creed-Rogue.jpg)
Ubisoft believes in the old, tried and tested formula (http://steamcommunity.com/app/326650/discussions/0/606068060839001840/) Director of Franchise Development Géraud Pachal clarifies,

“For years we’ve been making gamers scale buildings over and over to unlock the map in Assassin’s Creed,” “so when we found success with a similar mechanic in the recent Far Cry entries and now Watch_Dogs too, we really doubled down and committed to that mechanic.”
He continued to explain that both Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto are working on new games. He was asked whether Ubi Toronto is working on the new Splinter Cell, to which he replied.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-blacklist-635x397.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-blacklist.jpg)

“Our Toronto team is still working hard on the latest Splinter Cell, yes. And we hope to bring the Ubisoft signature to that series too, but we’re also in the early stages of a brand new property that will revolutionize the cluttered HUD subgenre.”
Investors seemingly excited from these remarks, but skeptical for the future of another franchise they stated,

“Assassin’s Creed is the pinnacle of useless information sprawling across every corner of a game’s display. We saw a preview of what’s in store. I just hope they aren’t biting off more than they can chew.”
Likely talking about Assassin’s Creed Victory, which is under development by Ubisoft Quebec, to which Pachal went on to respond,

“XP tallies, weapons info, mission objectives, scrolling text, maps — which, of course, will be locked at the start — this one will have it all and even some distractions gamers have never seen before,”
Exciting new reveals incoming from Ubisoft He concluded by teasing that many upcoming reveals are in store.

“We’re really approaching cable news channel-levels of sensory overload”
With GDC (http://wccftech.com/gdc-2015-expect/) coming early next month, and Ubisoft having already announced multiple sessions for the event, there is quite a lot of potential new reveals coming soon. They will likely talk about the updated versions of their engines which could possibly have implementation of DirectX 12, as well as some of the games. Assassin’s Creed Victory is a strong candidate, having already been leaked so holding off for an E3 reveal later this year might not be necessary. The new Splinter Cell could also make some sort of appearance.
We will bring you all news from the event, as well as any new information on Ubisoft’s new games.

Ubisoft: Open Worlds Are a Major Growth Driver, Only We Can Deliver Them Regularly With Our 9K Employees

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Watch-Dogs-2.jpg
Today was Investor Day at Ubisoft, and the company presented lots of figures and slides to its investors. You can read the whole PDF document here (https://www.ubisoftgroup.com/comsite_common/en-US/images/d20160218030021pr%C3%A9sentation%20investor%20day_ 180216-site_tcm99-239259_tcm99-196733-32.pdf), though for the purpose of this story we’re focusing specifically on a few slides.
According to Ubisoft, games based on open worlds are proving to be a major growth driver in the industry. To prove that, they shared this slide with data from NPD, GFK and physical sales; it seems like the share of open worlds in gaming has increased from 7% in fiscal year 2008 to 33% in fiscal year 2015.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ubisoft_open_worlds_1-635x365.jpg
This is not at all hard to believe, considering how many open world games have been released in recent years. Perhaps more controversial is the next slide, where Ubisoft claims that only they can regularly deliver titles featuring open worlds.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ubisoft_open_worlds_2-635x423.jpg
Advertisements

It is true that, quantity wise, Ubisoft is the leader in this particular segment of the market. Then again, from a quality standpoint many would probably have something to say about this strategy, especially since the huge number of open world games developed by Ubisoft gave birth to the running Open World: The Game joke.
In fact, more than a few gamers have argued that most of these Ubisoft open world games share design principles and even mechanics in an attempt to reduce costs.
In order to exploit this open world growth, Ubisoft has over 9K employees – a record in the industry. According to the company, this also allows them to bring great digital live service (what you may call post-launch support); two-thirds of production happens in cost competitive countries, with material costs estimated to be lower than direct peers.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ubisoft_open_worlds_3-635x465.jpg
Last week, Ubisoft revealed (http://wccftech.com/watch_dogs-2-confirmed-to-launch-before-march-2017/) that they have an unannounced AAA IP scheduled to release in fiscal year 2017. After all these slides, I’m pretty sure the game will have some sort of open world

Nao me parece que a Ubisoft tenha o que é preciso para ser dona e senhora dos open world. Bethesda sim. E logo a seguir Rockstar.
