The Crew won’t be given to reviewers before release, says Ubisoft (http://www.vg247.com/2014/11/25/the-crew-wont-be-given-to-reviewers-before-release-says-ubisoft/)

The Crew isn’t suitable for pre-release reviews, Ubisoft has said.“Many of you will be eager to turn to experts for their professional advice. You want to read how the pros feel after their carefully considered road tests of The Crew,” the publisher wrote on the Ubisoft Blog (http://blog.ubi.com/the-crew-road-tested/).
“The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world. And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press.”
As such, press will receive copies of the game on launch day alongside everyone else.
“There will be absolutely no embargo on any type of coverage once the game is available for sale,” Ubisoft said, which is certainly a relief after the whole Assassin’s Creed: Unity debacle (http://www.vg247.com/2014/11/14/assassins-creed-unity-dragon-age-inquisition-and-review-embargo-nightmares/).
The publisher said that the nature of the game means day one reviews might not be informative and accurate as you’ve come to expect for more traditional games.
“While we fully anticipate that you might see some reviews immediately at launch – largely built around the preview sessions we facilitated during the past months or the limited content of the closed and open betas – they won’t be based on optimal conditions or reflect the finished game,” ubisoft said.
“We sincerely hope everyone will take the time to customize their ride as they progress through all five regions, explore every corner of the map solo and with friends, dive into our competitive and cooperative mechanics, race to the end of the main campaign, choose a Faction and compete with your crew in Factions Wars, and so much more.”
Day one reviews of MMOs certainly aren’t common, except in situations where an expansion has launched with a significant period of beta testing open to established players, so Ubisoft isn’t doing anything especially weird here. Still, it’s going to be hard to message that to gamers used to picking up console games with reviews well in advance of launch day.
The Crew releases on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on December 2.

Ubisoft says that early reviews of The Crew won't be accurate (http://hexus.net/gaming/news/industry/77649-ubisoft-says-early-reviews-the-crew-accurate/)

In the wake of the controversy of its review embargo on Assassin's Creed: Unity, Ubisoft appears to be attempting to manoeuvre expectations about its imminent release of redefining action driving 'MMO CarPG experience' The Crew (http://thecrew-game.ubi.com/portal/en-US/home/).<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QoqYl8a236Q?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
It was widely speculated that Ubisoft put a halt to early reviews of its latest Assassin's Creed game so that the eager paying public couldn't read anything bad about the title at launch time. When the pro reviewers from various gaming magazines got their hands on the game it was slated with comments describing it as rough and glitchy (http://hexus.net/gaming/news/industry/76909-assassins-creed-unity-widely-found-slow-buggy/). For many gamers who rush to buy titles at launch it was a bit late to hear about the issues, they just have the wait for a series of patches to bring the title up to scratch.
Looking at the near future, Ubisoft has another blockbuster highly anticipated title about to launch. It's called The Crew and is another member of the Nvidia and Ubisoft Pick Your Path (http://hexus.net/gaming/news/pc/76589-nvidia-announces-ubisoft-pick-your-path-games-bundle/) game selection. The Crew launches on 2nd December on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC but games press reviewers will only get the game on the morning of 1stDecember.
That sounds like an improvement on the 12 hour delay reviewers were forced to put up with in publishing their Assassin's Creed: Unity reviews but already Ubisoft is tempering expectations and informing us that early reviews will not be accurate. Ubisoft reasons that no one, not even a professional games reviewer, can judge The Crew unless they have spent 30 to 40 hours playing the game.
http://hexus.net/media/uploaded/2014/11/246b37ed-6c75-419d-87dd-035303fcaaa0.jpg
"We also know that many of you will be eager to turn to experts for their professional advice. You want to read how the pros feel after their carefully considered road tests of The Crew." Ubisoft sympathised on its blog (http://blog.ubi.com/the-crew-road-tested/). "While we totally understand (hey, we read reviews, too!), The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world. And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press."
http://hexus.net/media/uploaded/2014/11/92d7db9a-91f5-4f2f-89d3-b29ae0635d05.jpg
So the games publisher is just letting us know, in a 'friendly and helpful' way to be wary of early reviews of The Crew and take them with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile gamers can actually give the game a run for its money right now as an open beta started yesterday. If any HEXUS readers have been driving through and enjoying 'The Crew's America' please let us know your initial thoughts below.

Não era sobre as microtransações, mas sim sobre andar a libertar torres como no Assassins Creed e Far Cry.

O Techspot fez a sua analise a este jogo.

The Crew Benchmarked: Graphics & CPU Performance

Set in a huge open world that allows players to race their way across the United States, Ubisoft's new action-driving MMO has 7,000 miles of roads, 15 cities and 15 million individual objects. Depending on your vehicle and skills behind the wheel, it's said to take about an hour and a half to drive coast to coast in the game and four hours to circumnavigate the entire map.The Crew is primarily an online multiplayer game, but it does have a single player component that offers roughly 20 hours of gameplay. The game has been designed for the latest generation consoles and PCs, though the former are capped at 30fps frames and a resolution of 1080p while our preferred platform ought to look and feel better with a 60fps cap and a higher res.
http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/925/images/1p.jpg (http://www.techspot.com/photos/article/925-the-crew-benchmarks/#1)
The Crew has been built using the Babel game engine along with developer Ivory Tower's proprietary tools. Considering the fact that we haven't tested a title powered by this combo before, we don't know how well optimized the game will be. For what it's worth, Ubisoft has had a poor track record in this area lately so we're interested to see how The Crew performs.
Testing Methodology

We used the latest AMD and Nvidia drivers on 31 DirectX 11 graphics card configurations from both companies covering all price ranges. Our test rig was outfitted with the IntelCore i7-5960X (http://www.techspot.com/review/875-intel-core-i7-5960x-haswell-e/) to remove CPU bottlenecks that could influence high-end GPU scores.
For benchmarking we used Fraps (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/2835-fraps.html) to record 120 seconds of gameplay. Benchmarking The Crew is a little tricky as it's online without checkpoints.
Whenever you quit the game it saves were you currently are and reloads you in that position next time so we thought it would be a good idea to drive to one of the big cities and record performance while driving around a block, returning to the starting spot at the end of each test.

The Crew Performance Video Card Review

Introduction
The Crew (http://thecrew-game.ubi.com/portal/en-us/home/) is a new open-world, massively multiplayer, racing game released December 2nd, 2014. This game was developed by Ivory Tower (http://www.ivory-tower.fr/?page_id=9&lang=en) and Ubisoft Reflections (http://reflections.ubisoft.com/), a subsidiary of Ubisoft. The game was published by Ubisoft (https://www.ubisoft.com/en-US/). The game currently holds a Metascore (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-crew) of 73 and a user score of 6.7.

On the developer's webpage this game is described as being developed for next-gen consoles and high-end PC:

"We are proud to announce our brand new project: THE CREW, a community-based action-driving game set in a massive open-world, developed for next-gen consoles and high-end PC, in partnership with Ubisoft Entertainment."

We will talk about that very topic in our conclusion because we have a very strong opinion on that statement after playing this game.

The Crew is on NVIDIA's Pick your Path (http://www.geforce.com/PickYourPath) current game bundle. If you buy a GeForce GTX 980 or GeForce GTX 970 video card you can chose a free Ubisoft game, either The Crew, Far Cry 4 or Assassin's Creed: Unity.

Our goals today are to look at performance and evaluate if it is worthy to add to our gaming suite for evaluating video cards, or not.

http://www.hardocp.com/images/articles/14186402467gsUGVgN75_1_1.gif

The Graphics
This game uses a custom, in-house game engine called Babel. This game engine has not been used in any other game yet and surely one of the reasons we wanted to cover this title.

The developers of The Crew have embraced NVIDIA's GameWork's (https://developer.nvidia.com/content/introducing-nvidia-gameworks) (more info here (https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworks)) technologies to implement into this game. However, only a couple of NVIDIA's suite of tools are used here to improve the graphics.

The two primary NVIDIA GameWorks features are ShadowWorks for HBAO+ ambient occlusion support and NVIDIA TXAA. NVIDIA's GameWork's technologies include a whole bunch more graphic possibilities, but this game makes use of the bare minimum.

HBAO+ - This game uses ShadowWorks to support NVIDIA's HBAO+ ambient occlusion method. This is a more precise, and optimized way to perform ambient occlusion and looks better compared to standard SSAO methods. This game actually supports two SSAO methods, SSAO and SSAO+ in addition to HBAO+.

However, HBAO+ will only work on NVIDIA GPUs in this game. AMD GPUs like the AMD Radeon R9 290X an 290 will not be able to use HBAO+, it doesn't even show up in the graphics settings. This is odd because we know HBAO+ itself is vendor agnostic. Far Cry 4 allows you to run it both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs with no issues. Therefore, the developers have artificially locked out HBAO+ to AMD GPU users, which we do not like at all.

TXAA - TXAA support is in this game, but only barely. It only supports 4X TXAA, there is not a 2X TXAA option. In fact, there is only a 4X MSAA and 8X MSAA option in addition to FXAA. For some reason, the developers do not support 2X MSAA or 2X TXAA, and we do not understand why, it is quite odd.

The rest of the in-game quality settings are discussed on the next page.

Test Setup
We are using our standard review setup as shown here (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/09/18/nvidia_maxwell_gpu_geforce_gtx_980_video_card_revi ew/6). For all video cards tested we are using the latest drivers. AMD GPU video cards are using Catalyst 14.12 WHQL Omega (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+8.1+-+64) driver. NVIDIA GPUs are using GeForce 344.75 WHQL (http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/79891).

How much power do you need to become one of The Crew

If you want to jump into the new massively multiplayer racing game called The Crew you are going to need to accept either 30fps or with a bit of tweaking 60fps, that is the hard limit and that 4k 144Hz monitor you just bought will be quietly crying as you play. In a way that does not matter as neither the GTX 980 or R9 290X could handle maximum graphical settings at 4k resolution with AntiAliasing enabled. SLI and Crossfire do both work and will allow you to max out your framerate to the 60fps ceiling but is unnecessary for anyone who is gaming at a resolution below 4k. NVIDIA is the better choice for those who want to play this game, you will benefit from several of their new features including FXAA which [H]ard|OCP witnessed providing a much less costly solution than 4x MSAA (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/12/15/crew_performance_video_card_review#.VK2NX8mO7fU).

"The Crew is a new racing game that takes place in a massively multiplayer open-world environment like no other game. It supports some NVIDIA GameWorks technologies, and we will see how it performs on no less than eight different video card combinations to gauge real world gaming performance across the board."

Ubisoft Screws Up Update for The Crew… Again!

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/the-crew.jpg
Maintenance work is supposed to improve things and not make them worse, but the latter seems to be the situation after last weekends work on The Crew for PS4. A lot of users are getting the error code #3_5eaa9404_3 that implies a corrupt save game and prevents the user from playing the game.
This isn’t the first time this has been an issue either for Ubisoft and their PS4 version of The Crew. Both in July and December users experienced the same problems according to a 250+ post forum thread (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/974475-Update-27-01-The-Crew-%E2%80%93-Corrupted-Saves-%E2%80%9CError-3_5eaa9404_3%E2%80%9D) on the official support forum.
Ubisoft is simply asking all its users that experience the issue to create a support ticket and submit their details – but users report of 4-day silences on their tickets, so far.

Ubisoft’s The Crew cheaters still on top, season passers shunned (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/jon-martindale/ubisofts-the-crew-cheaters-still-on-top-season-passers-shunned/)

Last year was a disastrous one for AAA releases. So many released with reams of bugs, flaws and issues that made them practically unplayable for a number of players. Much of this was laid at the feet of pushy publishers rushing to hit release targets and Ubisoft was one of the worst culprits. Not only did it release Assassin’s Creed Unity, with its missing faces (http://goo.gl/3jpToH) and frame rate issues, but it also released The Crew, a supposedly next generation racing title that has many, many problems as well. And they’re still ongoing, as KG readers have brought to our attention.
While a good number of game-play bugs seem to have been sorted, one glaring issue with the online game remains: hackers. Through illegitimate bugs they’ve been able to change in-game physics, give themselves speed and acceleration boosts, make their car’s invulnerable and many other tweaks that utterly break multiplayer gameplay. Many of them can be seen in this video posted just a few days ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=m7WvF0OOBeE

The hacker showcased in the above video is TiggerArmenia, who also goes by the names AMPEH and MOCTAPHCABTO in Test Drive Unlimited 2 (https://tdu2cheaters.wordpress.com/tag/armenia/), where they are also known to cause problems for other gamers. But if you play The Crew online at the moment, then you’ll already know this name very well, as they’re the current world record holder on almost everything.
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tigger1.jpg (http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tigger1.jpg)
(http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tigger1.jpg)While I don’t have the game myself, so can’t verify, I’m told by a KG reader this screenshot is from yesterday afternoon. However, they also said that TiggerArmenia has been a problem within the game, breaking leaderboards and ruining multiplayer games for months. This is confirmed by this same name appearing on lists of cheaters from December 2014 (http://10secrides.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=372).
We reached out to Ubisoft’s community manager for the Crew, Natcha Stappers, to see if we would find out why Ubisoft hasn’t at least cleared up The Crew’s leaderboards. His response was similar to that given to the community (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1008520-Question-to-Ubidefenders?p=10568071&viewfull=1#post10568071), that for now they can’t comment on what’s being done.

The patch he mentions is presumably the one detailed here (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1006975-Patch-Patch-notes-February-12th). Although the patch notes say nothing about the banning of specific hackers and cheaters, it does address a couple of potential bugs, though not even a fraction of the ones obvious in the above video.
As if to make matters worse, PC Season Pass owners are being given the short end of the stick with upcoming DLC content. Although one of the early-buy bonuses of The Crew’s season pass was to give owners access to DLC content a week early, for an unannounced reason, PC Season Pass owners will now only be getting access to the content after everyone else.

The Crew finally gets patched

Said that it will include a fix for the stats bug
The bug in The Crew that would allow servers to randomly erase player stats is said to be fixed in this patch pack.

The patch for The Crew that is due later this week will fix the stats issue once and for all, but those missing stats from previous games will NOT have them restored.
This is the first major patch to address issues with the game since it was released. The patch will also include new content in the form of a new PvP mode. The new PvP mode is an elimination race that includes 10 new tracks. Also four new faction missions will be part of the patch as well.
The patch includes a laundry list of other fixes for the game. We are not sure how much this is going to impact the game for those that have it or those that are considering buying, but it could not be any worse off than it was at launch.

The Crew review: tested with 21 GPUs (incl. frame times)

Introduction The Crew is a recent game that is perhaps best described as being an MMO racing game. Which type of graphics card do you need to achieve maximum performance in this game? We tested it using 21 modern GPUs from AMD and Nvidia.

Translator's note: the original Dutch article was written before the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 was released. Charts that include test results for the GTX 960 can be found here (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/benchmarks/6/3d-chips?tcId=370&specId=16045&products%5B%5D=274613) (frame rates) and here (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/benchmarks/6/3d-chips?tcId=370&specId=16051&products%5B%5D=274613) (frame times).
http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products_larges/206651/1/the-crew-pc.jpg (http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products/xl/206651.jpg)
The Crew is a racing game at heart, but its gameplay isn't of the typical "drive a lap around a track" kind. Instead, we're dealing with an open world game that you can play online simultaneously with a large amount of people. The game is situated in America, and many of the country's well known areas, such as the famous Las Vegas strip, can be found in the game. Story mode allows you to do various missions, including things such as "drive from A to B as fast as you can", "don't get caught by the police", and "ram the vehicle in front of you until you run 'm off the road". The game's multiplayer mode, which allows you to compete against other players in various ways, is perhaps even more fun. Because of its open world properties, the game somewhat resembles GTA, but only with regard to the car-related properties. While the game did impress the jury in the Hardware.Info test lab, the reviews on specialised gaming websites are somewhat mixed, to say the least.
As per usual, we'll be leaving the act of reviewing the game to those publications that are specialized in doing so. Metacritic calculates an average score of 71 points for the PC version, and GameRankings states that the average score is 71.6%.
The game utilizes the so-called Babel game engine. Along with Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity, the Crew is part of Nvidia's latest GeForce game bundle (http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2014/11/04/get-a-new-gpu-plus-assassins-creed-unity-the-crew-or-far-cry-4-for-free/). This means that you can get the game for free when you purchase a GeForce GTX 780, 970, or 980 at selected retailers.
We tested the game using our new GPU test system, at the Full HD (1920x1080), triple Full HD (5760x1080), and UHD/4K (3840x2160) resolutions, using 21 contemporary GPUs. Our system consists of an Intel Core i7 5960X (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/240869/intel-core-i7-5960x) @ 4.0 GHz, an MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/243508/msi-x99s-gaming-9-ac) motherboard, 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/238870/corsair-vengeance-lpx-black-16gb-ddr4-2666-cl15-quad-kit) memory @ 2133 MHz 13-13-13-36-2T, a Samsung 840 Evo 1 TB (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/194683/samsung-840-evo-1tb) SSD, a Seasonic Platinum Series 1200W (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/214069/seasonic-platinum-series-1200w) PSU, an NZXT Kraken X60 (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/174207/nzxt-kraken-x60) CPU cooler, and a Cooler Master Test Bench (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/78381/cooler-master-test-bench-v10). We used the Catalyst Omega driver version for AMD graphics cards, and driver version 344.75 for Nvidia boards.
The Crew does not feature a built-in benchmark. Instead, we benchmarked the game in the Omar mission (level 9), where we take part in the race for a period of one minute and determine the average frame rate using Fraps. We found that the game's frame rate is capped at 60 fps. In addition to the average frame rates, we also determined the 99th percentile frame times for The Crew. These values correspond to the amount of time that is needed to process 99% of rendered images. Click here (http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/3994/new-on-hardwareinfo-frametime-tests-for-gpus) to read the original article in which we explain the importance of frame times. Within this article, you'll also read about why the minimum frame rate that is shown by many websites is essentially useless, and why the 99th percentile frame time provides the information that the minimum frame rate fails to deliver.
As per usual, we tested the game at both the Medium and the Ultra preset. Refer to the table below to learn what settings we used exactly.

Ubisoft offering two-hour free trial of The Crew on the Xbox One, PS4

It looks like Ubisoft is pushing The Crew in its latest campaign for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, offering gamers a free two-hour trial. If they enjoy the game and purchase it, they can bring over their progress, too.
