Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End First GameplayEric Monacelli's Avatar + Posted by Eric Monacelli on Dec 06, 2014 // Community Strategist, Naughty Dog

Saturday morning at the inaugural PlayStation Experience we unveiled the very first Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End gameplay. In case you missed it, here’s the full playthrough:

Although we are still in the pre-alpha stage of development, everything you see in the video is in-game and in real-time running at 1080p and a stable 30hz. It’s looking pretty spectacular already and we still have quite some time to optimize and refine our technology to make this the best looking and playing Uncharted game to date.

If you’re wondering who called Nathan Drake “little brother” and exactly what that means, we’ll be trickling out more details soon. Why is Drake on an island? What’s he searching for? Who’s shooting at Drake again and why is he shooting back? Be sure to pay attention to our Twitter feed and social channels for the latest news and updates. 2015 is going to be awesome.

Uncharted 4 Visual Enhancements and Nathan Drake Character Model Show What PS4 is Capable of

Sony recently kick started (http://wccftech.com/new-uncharted-4-gameplay-footage/) its first-ever PlayStation Experience event with Naughty Dog’s upcoming highly anticipated action-adventure third-person shooter title known as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and now the game is getting a special treatment at the event. Naughty Dog demonstrated different technical aspects of the game via a video panel at the event, showing how the latest visual enhancements make the upcoming title look absolutely beautiful compared to the previous games in the series and how Nathan Drake has evolved over time — both age wise and graphically — to look increasingly photorealistic.

Naughty Dog Demonstrates Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s Graphical Aspects – Shows New Photorealistic Nathan Drake Model on the PlayStation 4 After presenting 15 minutes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End gameplay (http://wccftech.com/new-uncharted-4-gameplay-footage/) running real-time on the PlayStation 4 console, Naughty Dog conducted a panel, titled “Modeling Nathan Drake: Bringing an Iconic Character to PS4,” at the recent PlayStation Experience event, and revealed the new graphical features that the upcoming game boasts. The developer demonstrated the next-gen tech that is being used to bring Nathan Drake, the protagonist of the series, back to life, and make him look increasingly photorealistic in the upcoming game.

Uncharted 4 Dev Demonstrates Drake’s Next-Gen Character Model with Direct-Feed WIP Screenshots

Sony’s PlayStation 4 console is getting a number of impressive triple A video games next year, but among the currently known titles, the next installment in Naughty Dog’s most cherished action-adventure third-person shooter video game series stands on the top of the most anticipated list. Earlier this month at PlayStation Experience event, Naughty Dog demonstrated visual assets for Drake’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s character model, and now, the shading artist on the game has explained how next-gen shaders for the protagonist were developed.
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-4-Drake-Character-Model-5-635x335.jpg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-4-Drake-Character-Model-5.jpg)
Uncharted 4’s Shading Artist Explains How Nathan Drake’s Amazing Shaders Were Developed Different Techs After months of recess, Sony brought Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-visual-enhancements-nathan-drake-character-model-show-power-ps4/) forward at the PlayStation Experience event earlier this month and made the game’s fans familiar with the new next-gen graphical technology that is being used to completely overhaul Drake’s in-game character model and make it look more photorealistic. It was revealed (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-visual-enhancements-nathan-drake-character-model-show-power-ps4/) that the game takes a huge advantage from shaders that provide incredible visuals, and especially highlight small texture details.
One of the minds responsible for Nathan Drake’s in-game facial and body features is Yibing Jiang, shading artist on the game. In good time, Jiang recently decided to display her portfolio on Artstation (http://www.artstation.com/artwork/character-shading-for-nathan-drake-uncharted-4), and while doing so, she uploaded a complete album containing direct-feed, work-in-progress screenshots of Nathan Drake’s character model from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which we’ve already seen in blurry YouTube video (http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/12/10/uncharted-4-wip-screenshots-videos-info-show-the-incredible-tech-used-to-create-nathan-drake/) from PlayStation Experience. In the description, Jiang explained how Drake’s face was shaped:

-Real-time rendered in game. This is not CGI or pre-render, which means all the shading features for skin, hair, eyes need to be written in code.
-Using Disney Diffuse model, GGX Brdf model and Screen Space Subsurface.
-Hair is using Kajiya-kay Brdf model.
-Frank Tzeng did the sculpting and texturing for his face and arms.

Naughty Dog won't push Uncharted 4 to 60fps if it compromises player experience (http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/uncharted_4/news/naughty_dog_wont_push_uncharted_4_to_60fps_if_it_c ompromises_player_experience.html)

Naughty Dog won't boost Uncharted 4's frame rate to 60fps if it compromises the player's experience, game director Bruce Straley has explained.Talking in the latest issue of EDGE, Straley confirmed that the team locked Uncharted 4's frame rate at 30fps for last month's demo (http://www.videogamer.com/videos/uncharted_4_a_thiefs_end_first_gameplay_footage.ht ml), but revealed that the game is actually running "above 30" frames per second.

"We're actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo], Straley explained. "We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.'"
EDGE states that a debug station visible on the floor revealed that the game was running at 37fps.
All three PS3 Uncharted titles ran at 30fps. However, hopes that the upcoming PS4 release would run at 60fps were raised after community strategist Arne Meyer revealed that Naughty Dog would be targeting 1080p/60fps "with anything we're doing on this generation".
Last summer's PS4 re-release The Last of Us: Remastered ran at 1080p/60fps, up from the original game's 720p/30fps.

Uncharted 4: Pre Orders Available and Release Date Leaked

The upcoming action-adventure third-person shooter Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was first announced at the PS4 launch event on Spike TV in November 2013 and then a followup recent gameplay trailer was displayed on the PlayStation Experience event. The game is now available online for pre orders and many gamer have started booking their copies of the game. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, under development by naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, is one of the most anticipated titles across the PS4 for which a lot of speculation has made and lots of comparisons made. Like previously we compared the uncharted 4 visual enhancements on Nathan Drake as compared to Uncharted 3 (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-visual-enhancements-nathan-drake-character-model-show-power-ps4/). With several deals available online for the upcoming video game pre orders, Uncharted 4’s release date has been some-what leaked by Walmart.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-41-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-41.jpg)
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Release Date Leaked by Walmart

The upcoming game has lots of deals available online, where you can get the most value for money including the PS store which currently has a 10 percent discount due to make-ups for the PSN downtime. But the best deal where you can buy Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Uncharted-4-A-Thief-s-End-PS4/37789137) at best price is for $43.40 on Walmart. And as you can see below the the game is expected to ship from Thursday, the 1st of October so that may be when the game is actually releasing. Although nothing is confirm yet but it looks like we can expect the game to release by October. Have a look at the screenshot below.
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Uncharted-4-release-date-leak-635x458.jpeg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Uncharted-4-release-date-leak.jpeg)

This may not necessary be the actual release date for the upcoming game and hence i’m marking it as a rumor but it just cannot be a random release date set aside the pre order. The expected date might be the release date or a date by which the game will surely be out as we can probably say this by certainty that major vendors will have a release or expected release date though official channels which we can now take advantage of and guess around which time the game is releasing. This is basically based on speculation at his point but might i point out that this is how leaks are cultivated which are later confirmed by the developers. We can now also expect an official comment on the release date soon. We’ll keep you updated on the latest gaming news and more on WCCFTech.

Uncharted 4 Clone is Pure Gaming Comedy Gold

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Unearthed.jpg
Many game developers are concerned about their products being copied or their original ideas being stolen, but today is probably not causing the team at Naughty Dog to lose any sleep. Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Buttuta is definitely not an Uncharted game, but it’s done everything it can to try and imitate it; much in the same way a child could imitate real life using a pack of crayons.
It shouldn’t be funny, the game looks terrible, but much in the same way Goat Simulator is “broken”, I really can’t wait to play Unearthed. Check out the video below and let us know your thoughts.

Uncharted 4 targeted for late September release

http://www.fudzilla.com/media/k2/items/cache/1d93b6b5f562115e86912eb7d02a6acb_L.jpg (http://www.fudzilla.com/media/k2/items/cache/1d93b6b5f562115e86912eb7d02a6acb_XL.jpg)

The cat might be out of the bag on the 29th we hear
One of the biggest questions we are hearing lately is if we know just when Uncarted 4 might actually ship.

This continues to be a closely guarded secret, with phrases like “later this year” and “holiday season” being the norm.
Now our whispers who claim to be in the know say that at least right now they are hearing that Uncharted 4 is targeted for a September 29th release in North America, followed by an October 2nd release in Europe. We heard some of a unified release on October 2nd, but right now that seems to be just talk.
Still anything could happen and the dates may change or move around depending on the development schedule. Of course this is only talk and we suspect that a final decision will not come till E3 from what we are hearing.

Resumo das features do jogo, segundo a Game Informer.

- Porting TLOU to PS4 helped Uncharted 4 development
- Small team working on it since U3 development ended, half the team moved to U4 after TLOU and the rest after Left Behind
- Takes places 3 years after U3
- At the start of U4 Drake is living an happy life with Elena, then Sam appears
- Drake thought Sam was dead
- Sam life depends on him finding an artifact from Henry Avery
- Drake feels indebted of his brother and he can't resist getting back on treasure hunting
- Story takes Drake and Sam to Libertalia "a mythic Madagascar colony purportedly founded by pirates"
- Says you're not going to spend the whole game on the island, teases snowy and urban enviroments
- Two rival hunters, Rafe and Nadine
- Rafe is a very different treasure hunter than Drake, with different morale and approach
- Nadine owns a private military company in South Africa
- Villains will play a bigger role this time
- "The lack of Sam being in Nathan life for so long is what's driven him in the last games"
- Sam is five years older than Drake
- Teases Elena and Sully
- Sam is even more reckless than Drake
- Sam is jealous of Drake, sees him as the 'better at everything little brother'
- Lots of rivalry between them
- ND didn't want to talk about Drake and Sam past
- Artifacts (collectibles) may contain notes poiting to more treasures/artifacts
- Enemies can grab your leg if you try to push them over ledges
- More tools besides Rope and Piton (metal spike)
- They're not ready to talk about them yet
- Wants to incorporate the tools into puzzles
- GI saw an extended demo with a new scene. Drake is beaten down while Sam is rested, they start arguing the existance of Avery secret, then something catches Drake's eye, he moves forward, pull some foliage, revealing a gray monument with a carving.
- Focusing on navigational freedom for this entry
- Showed multiple paths, one finding an extra cave, other bypassing a group of enemies
- Plenty of side stories if you're looking for them
- In the demo they showed Drake taking a more riskier climbing route, that almost makes him fall in the sea
- All paths have consequences, there's no "Golden path"
- Rehauled A.I system
- Compared Sam A.I to Ellie, but says Sam is a grown up treasure hunter, so he's much stronger than Ellie
- Trying to "explore what it's like to be with somebody as capable of Nathan Drake"
- Not giving a straight answer if this is Drake last adventure
- Still plenty of humour in the game
- Concept of set piece is "What's something impactful that we can do to switch expectations and how can we have it emotionally charged?"
- Multiplayer confirmed.

There are 60 different animations just of Drake picking up objects.
Talk a lot about how weight distribution plays a big role in the animations
You can attack enemies from all sides with unique animations to them, you wont magically warp in front of them if you punch.
Lots of talk from Druckman on the cost of adventuring on Drake's life, it will be a major focus of the story. Compares his addiction to treasure hunting to a drug addict.
All the new items they added were chosen cause it can help keep the pacing and gives you a better sense of exploration and adventure.
Cutscenes are now all real time
Tools will be used to enhance traversal and puzzle solving
They said the large puzzle rooms from Uncharted 3 will still be there, they say U3 had the best puzzles of the series and they want to build on that.
TLOU moments where the characters react to what they see or read will happen in this game.
Lots of talk about brotherly banter and building a bond between the NPC and the player, "there are some nice cooperative moments between Nate and his brother."
On the gigantic setpieces, this is exactly what they say "So now our concept of a set piece is 'what's something impactful we can do to switch expectations and how can we have it emotionally charged?' We want to constantly surprise the player, so it can be really intimate, or really big and bombastic."

Naughty Dog: Uncharted 4 at 60FPS on the PS4 is 'really f**king hard'

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be an exclusive to the PlayStation 4, with developer Naughty Dog aiming for 1080p and 60FPS. But throughout the development of Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog has realized that it most likely won't be able to reach a solid 60FPS throughout the entire game.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43394_01_naughty-dog-uncharted-4-60fps-ps4-really-king-hard.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43394_01_naughty-dog-uncharted-4-60fps-ps4-really-king-hard_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43394_01_naughty-dog-uncharted-4-60fps-ps4-really-king-hard.jpg

Neil Druckmann is the Game Director in charge of Uncharted 4, where he said that reaching 60FPS is not an easy task and that Naughty Dog is continuing to opimize the game (water it down) but he hasn't said whether 60FPS is the aim for the company. When asked how hard it was to reach 60FPS in Uncharted 4 during an interview with Game Informer, Druckmann said that it's "Really f**king hard".

He continued: "That's true for any game. It was really hard on The Last of Us Remastered, and that's a game we had finished and we knew exactly what the end result needs to look like. And here [with Uncharted 4] we're trying to push the boundaries of what this game can look like; and do realistic, real-time cutscenes; and trying to do 60fps is really hard". When he was asked directly if Naughty Dog was aiming for 60FPS, he said that Uncharted 4 is still a work-in-progress, and that nothing is solid right now.

"I don't know," he added, continuing: "The objective for us is just to make the best experience. And right now we're trying to push the look. Then we'll see where we're at and reassess. We're constantly making choices to our production about what's going to make the game feel best and look its best". When Uncharted 4 was shown off at Sony's PlayStation Experience event in December (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/41709/sony-shows-uncharted-gameplay-footage-ps4-1080p-60fps/index.html), Uncharted 4 was locked at 30FPS, but current builds of the PS4 exclusive are running at higher frame rates.

Back in January, Druckmann said: "We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience [instead of] the 60 frames".

I don't mean to be cynical, but it sounds like they can't hit 60FPS at all, and I'm sure we're going to get a baked down, watered down experience. Not that it means much for PC gamers, but it shows that there are already gigantic performance walls on the PS4 that I'm sure won't be broken down any time soon.

Naughty Dog: Uncharted 4 Very Close To Film Right Now

With each release of an Uncharted game, Naughty Dog won the hearts of their fans around the world and this probably one of the biggest reasons why Uncharted 4 is one of the most highly anticipated games on the PS4 in 2015. And with each new release fans are expecting better/improved graphics complementing some very fast gameplay at 30 fps and 900p. That’s some demand considering that the PlayStation is still a console. But Naughty Dog doesn’t disappoint. They’re going to bring a cinematic experience to the fans with this release. It will possibly just be like watching a blockbuster movie, the difference is that it’ll be a blockbuster game.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-4-Gameplay-Footage-Screencaps-5-635x361.png (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted-4-Gameplay-Footage-Screencaps-5.png)
Uncharted 4 Team Aims For A Cinematic Experience For It’s PS4 Fans So the question here is, Is it really possible? The game does look awfully good in terms of graphics but the question here is that is a cinematic experience really possible in Game Animation with the current level of expertise? Well according to Naughty Dog’s Lead Artist Frank Tzeng, In a short few sentences reported on Gamepur (http://www.gamepur.com/news/17940-uncharted-4-thiefs-end-quality-ps4-really-close-film-right-now-says-lead.html), he said that the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is “Really Close” to a filmed version right now in terms of quality, and it will get closer in a few years. He said:

“Game quality is really close to film right now, look at the stuff we do in Naughty Dog. This character, I’m telling you guys, this character can easily be a digital double in a film. Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character [Uncharted 4’s Nathan Drake] this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do.”

That will sound comforting to PS4 owners and game fans. In addition to this, Frank also explained how the shift from PS3 to PS4 allows much more freedom to developers in making sure that a better experience is communicated to the mass gaming community. He also tipped through this that they’ll get to the cinema-like experience in the future versions of the PlayStation (probably the PS5).

“As we have more powerful consoles coming out, so right now we have PS4, it’s definitely more powerful than PS3 and that enables to put more polygons, you know, using more high-res maps and get more resolutions in a game, making more expressions making more blend shapes and wrinkle maps. All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry and I think in a few years we can definitely get there (http://3d.cgmasteracademy.com/interviews/interview-with-the-masters-with-frank-tzeng.html).”
Well if this happens the this is definitely a break-through and the movie industry should be scared of such a time when Animation overtakes it. This does call for worry and RND on their part as we haven’t seen nearly as much innovation in movies as we have in gaming.

Uncharted 4 Character Lead Artist Emphasizes The Importance of Teamwork at Naughty Dog

Frank Tzeng, Lead Character Artist of Uncharted 4 at Naughty Dog explains how “quality is everything” for the studio and how this affects his work.
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted-4-ps4-4-635x357.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted-4-ps4-4.jpg)
Quality is everything “I love Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog gave me a lot of freedom to create the character that I wanted to do, and we value quality so much that we are willing to sacrifice a lot of stuff to just get whatever we want.
So, if I show you a character, this character may not just have been done once. Maybe he got approved three times, four times, but we just go back and keep changing him because we just want to get that perfection down that we wanted to get.

This is how Naughty Dog works. Quality basically is everything to us. It’s very important stuff. That enables me to practice more and more, and just get some really good stuff going on”. Even if we already know the attention to detail and quality that Naughty Dog is capable of, it’s good to know that the same holds true for the latest iteration in the Uncharted series. Helmed by creative director Neil Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley, Uncharted 4 could very well become the crowning achievement of the franchise. Judging from the duo’s impeccable work on The Last of Us, one of the most highly acclaimed games of all time, there is absolutely no doubt that we will be getting one of the greatest gaming experiences the industry has ever seen.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted_4_drake_smile.0-635x357.jpg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted_4_drake_smile.0.jpg)
During the Playstation Experience we witnessed a 15-minute gameplay demo of the game and it was mind-blowing. Breathtakingly beautiful vistas and amazing level design, coupled with truly great gameplay and genre innovating advancements. There was a particular moment that literally blew my mind, where Drake jumped to an enemy below, punched him on the face and then grabbed his falling gun and shot a second enemy on the ledge above. That was truly some really dynamic gameplay.
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/direct-feed-screenshot-5-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/direct-feed-screenshot-5.jpg)
Tzeng, continues on the importance of teamwork
“This is all teamwork. I cannot do it by myself. I have a really good team by myself. We have a really good shader artist, we have a lot of talented character artists. It’s all teamwork. I don’t want to take all the credit by myself, because everything we do… For example, this one, even though I did the model, I did the eyebrow… all the stuff… the shader has been made by the shader artist. Without the shader this model would never look like this, so it’s all team effort.

http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted_4_drake_x4.0-635x357.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/uncharted_4_drake_x4.0.jpg)
My part, texturing, sculpting, modeling, is only a part of it. In the game industry it’s all teamwork.”
At closing, he mentioned the importance of subtle changes,
“This is basically the same work that I do at Naughty Dog as well. In order to achieve the feeling that we want, it’s all about subtle changes. All the subtle changes added can change the whole character”.
There is no doubt that the Uncharted series remains one of the most beloved gaming franchises in the industry and millions of people look forward to the release of Uncharted 4. Combining great gameplay with truly interesting characters, for which you really get to care about, some very interesting story telling coupled with excellent voice work and motion capture, provides some incredibly moving experiences.

There is no release date for Uncharted 4 yet, but we will surely have an announcement at E3 later this year. A fall 2015 release is very likely, as there was confirmation that the game is indeed coming out this year. Given how many games get delayed lately, lets just hope that this remains true and that we get to experience what is probably going to be a breathtaking gaming experience, soon enough.

There is no doubt that Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End is one of the most highly anticipated and highly awaited games of 2015. The game looks absolutely gorgeous with its releases may those be concept art or footages. And after the somewhat unexpected turnout for the latest exclusive of the PlayStation 4 i.e. The Order: 1886, it is more important that Uncharted 4 wipes the floor with the rest of the releases. Bloodborne is another awaited exclusive but it serves to a completely different group of people because of it’s dark and grimm gameplay. So far, Uncharted 4 has not disappointed us and in that stead we have another gorgeous looking art to feast our eyes.

Gorgeous Concept Art Show Nathan Drake Making His Way Through the Ruins The new concept art was released via the concept artist Eytan Zana and it shows Nathan making his way across the ruins. The new release in the uncharted series is expected to raise the bar for all future games just like The Order: 1886. Although not praised by many critics as a game, but it certainly was one hell of a game graphics wise and it really did set the bar very high for any future game releases. Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End is expected to make its appearance at E3 2015 and with lots of anticipation behind the game, it is sureshot that the developers will not go easy on it. Now, lets have a look at that concept art we were talking about:

Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End is set 3 years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception where Nathan Drake has left the world of hunting behind him. However, things change when Nathan’s Brother Sam comes back knocking on Nathan’s door offering an adventure Nathan just can’t resist and saving his brothers neck in the meantime. Sam and Nathan then set off on a for Captain Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure which is supposedly deep into the forests of Madagascar where dangers await the brothers. This release of Uncharted covers all the globe ranging from thick jungle islands to urban cities and snow-capped peaks of the North.
Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End has had its fans captivated ever since its announcement back in the PlayStation Experience event. As a reminder to everyone, this is an exclusive to the PlayStation 4 console which it intends to push t its limits leaving behind very little chance of its appearance at the previous gen PlayStation 3 console without compromising heavily on game quality and in-game resolution. It is a very popular title and hence the expectations are very high at the moment. To see if it fulfils the expectations, we’ll just have to wait and watch.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - the story behind the biggest game of the year (http://www.gamesradar.com/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-preview/)

Everything was Uncharted. You’ll have seen the jokes, no doubt – the ones that pointed out how many games at E3 2012 seemed to be based on an external interpretation of the Naughty Dog design document. That show brought a host of linear games built on tightly scripted spectacle, sacrificing player agency for the whims of a stubborn author. The complaint was aimed at other developers, at an industry in thrall to the cookie cutter, but it stung Naughty Dog by extension as well. Many of those games have since turned out to be nothing like Uncharted. At December’s PlayStation Experience (PSX) event, filmed live in Vegas and streamed around the world, Naughty Dog suggested Uncharted 4 wasn’t, in the E3 2012 pejorative sense of the term, very Uncharted either. Over the course of a day inside the Santa Monica studio, we are shown the proof of it. Within half an hour, game director Bruce Straley has summed it up perfectly. “There’s no one golden path,” he tells us. “It’s not just as simple as pushing forward on the stick all the time.”It’s a telling line. Straley is explaining Uncharted 4’s expanded traversal and climbing system, but it’s a valid summation of what we’ve seen of the game as a whole. More to the point, it shows the studio is keenly aware of the criticism – often overstated, but not entirely unfounded – of the way it has historically made its games. ‘Just pushing forward on the stick’? It’s what other people say about the Uncharteds, and the games that have followed in their wake. “I don’t really consider what other people are saying,” Straley says. “But when you do read it, in falls into alignment with what you’re already thinking as a player and developer. It reinforces what you’re already considering doing.”
Creative director Neil Druckmann backs Straley up: “We’re evolving as developers. We have different sensibilities in what we’re attracted to in games, and what we want to play. If we were making Uncharted 2 today, it would probably be a very different game.”
Druckmann was a mere lead designer on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the creative director’s chair instead filled by Amy Hennig, who left in still-unspecified, but seemingly acrimonious circumstances early last year. Any hope of getting clarification on that is shut down almost as soon as we walk into the studio, the prospect not so much taken off the table as set on fire and thrown out the window, and the table with it. But her departure, and that of series’ design lead Richard Lemarchand, has presented Straley and Druckmann with a fresh start. As has the move to a new generation of consoles, PS4’s power allowing perhaps the most technically capable studio on the planet today to stretch itself even further. Straley and Druckmann have matured as developers, and taken Naughty Dog as a whole along with them. The studio’s method of making games has evolved, and Drake has had to change in kind.
http://3ebd2a0c0ea48a333aea-1f531def8e8befb67be56667ce3edd11.r77.cf1.rackcdn.c om/70b49f739b4a1be280367c27c0e9a96be07348d2.jpg__620x 349_q85_crop_upscale.jpg
As Straley suggests early on in our visit, the climbing system was the logical starting point. Ever since Nathan Drake first reached for a glimmering handhold in 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, this series’ climbing systems have been exercises in linearity, in following a single, obvious path to the next combat scene or set-piece. The PSX demo, and the extended version we’re shown at the studio, do a poor job of conveying just how much that has changed. At a glance, Drake’s clambering seems to be the same as ever, a semi-automated journey between conveniently placed and similarly coloured ledges and handholds. There are new tools, but the 2014 Nathan Drake’s piton mimics the 2013 Lara Croft’s climbing axe right down to the look of the surfaces on which it can be used, while the grapple rope can only be attached to preordained points marked with a button prompt. When Drake misjudges a jump and nearly falls, saved only by the tips of his fingers, it is hard to resist a roll of the eyes.
At the studio, Straley plays through the sequence again, stopping periodically to explain exactly what we’re looking at. He takes a totally different route. Uncharted’s climbing has been drastically overhauled, its PS3-era animation system scrapped and rebuilt to allow full analogue movement through 360 degrees using real body physics. ‘Slip events’, as Straley calls them, are not mapped to individual parts of scenery but triggered by the angle and distance of Drake’s jump, as well as the type of handhold. Smaller, less stable ones will break more easily; if they do, you’ll need to take another route. Where Croft’s axe was little more than a different animation for the trip along the critical path, here the piton is designed to empower freedom. Those grapple points may be fixed, but they’re multipurpose – you can swing, as Straley did at PSX, but also abseil, climb, or run along and around cliff faces. Uncharted’s most linear system has become remarkably freeform. Instead of pushing up on the stick, you’re solving a puzzle. It’s not about finding the start of the path and sticking to it, but forging your own.
The same applies to combat. Here, too, are moments that whiff of the cinematics designer’s hand – though it’s hard to complain when you’ve just swung across a gap on a rope, let go, smacked a goon in the face on your way down, grabbed his rifle out of the air and started shooting at the next poor fool in your way – but the improvements are immediately apparent. There’s the enemy AI, which has been afforded a similar traversal moveset to Drake’s, enabling opponents to jump gaps and clamber up ledges in pursuit of their quarry, a true generational leap from the days when foes would spawn behind cover and stay there. Break line of sight – by crouching into the dense, reactive foliage, perhaps, or dropping yourself off a ledge – and enemies won’t return to their preset patrol routes, but stay in place or seek you out, communicating all the while. Uncharted 4’s combat isn’t just about shooting, but a blend of stealth, traversal, melee and gunplay set in a vast, vertical space full of opportunities. Suddenly, a series once famed for its linearity feels uncommonly like a sandbox.
Yet this has not been a sudden change. It is the evolution of a process that began in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, when Drake gained the ability to fire a gun from any traversal state. Straley says it’s about “building up mechanics that you can use again and again, that scale properly. For me, it’s all about systems, about boiling down the essence of the systems so you can properly layer them. It empowers the player to toy around.” He recalls a level from a former Naughty Dog game, 2003’s Jak II, in which the protagonist rode a rocket. Straley died a dozen times working out the mechanics, and many more times working his way through the level. “Then I never saw that rocket again for the rest of a 40-hour experience. I didn’t like the design process in Jak II; it didn’t feel like there were really systems. It was the first time I got angry about our own development internally.” It is sometimes easy to forget that Naughty Dog existed before Uncharted. It has been in business for 30 years, 25 under its current name, and has been learning all the while.
http://3ebd2a0c0ea48a333aea-1f531def8e8befb67be56667ce3edd11.r77.cf1.rackcdn.c om/7c042595158bb7fa85db055e1ec08d65f4c9c097.jpg__620x 349_q85_crop_upscale.jpg
Yet Jak II isn’t quite the game that springs most readily to mind as we watch the new demo. Instead, thoughts turn to Naughty Dog’s most widely acclaimed title, the one that saw Druckmann and Straley become the studio’s creators in chief. There is a tremendous amount of The Last Of Us here, especially in the fluid, alternating switches between combat and stealth against enemies that communicate and move around freely. Drake closes out the demo by rope-swinging away from the final group of grunts, a callback to the lightbulb moment in TLOU when you first realised evasion was as valid a strategy as clearing out the entire room. “That’s been part of our evolution,” Straley says. “It’s us getting more comfortable with systemic approaches, with wider layouts, with how you integrate story with gameplay, with layout, with music. It’s been a constant evolution.”
The most transformative evolution of them all comes courtesy not of those within Naughty Dog’s walls, however, but those of its parent company. No other studio pushed PS3 quite as hard as this one, and you need only look at the demo’s vast expanse to see how Naughty Dog is enjoying the lofty headroom afforded by PS4’s processors. “The way we had to work with memory management inside of The Last Of Us just to get the width that we had there was crazy. It was insane,” Straley says. “The Duck tape and Scotch tape that we used to cobble those levels together just to get it to run properly… Now we can say, ‘Aah, we have some memory. Let’s play with this a little bit’. You can breathe, and let the player breathe a little bit as well.”
The result is the prettiest game the new generation has yet produced. Texture resolution has been at least quadrupled across the board from Uncharted 3, but that’s just the start. Drake comes to on the shore of an island off the coast of Madagascar, waking up to a backdrop of procedurally tessellated water. A new dynamic wind system makes trees, bushes and Drake’s hair – both on his head and his chest – sway in tandem. Up close, a system that was co-developed by Naughty Dog and Sony’s Advanced Technology Group delivers a more efficient way of making highly detailed surfaces without using performance-hungry adaptive tessellation; farther away, the studio is relying far more on background LOD algorithms than it ever has before. A new physically based shader more than two years in the making helps materials to look lifelike using their real-world properties. The improvements to Drake’s climbing skills are best shown on a wireframe climbing wall filled with perhaps 100 handholds. As he clambers, the shape of his body adapts to the changing shape of the wall; we’re told that there are unique animations for two-thirds of his transitions. On PS3, Drake’s entire skeleton was made up of 250 bones. Now, there are 800 in his face alone.
With all that going on, it’s little surprise that the demo runs at 30fps, despite Naughty Dog’s earlier claims that it was shooting for 60. “We’re actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo],” Straley says (out on the floor, a debug station shows the game running at 37fps). “We’re going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player’s experience, then it’s our choice as developers to say, ‘Well, we’re going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.’”
http://3ebd2a0c0ea48a333aea-1f531def8e8befb67be56667ce3edd11.r77.cf1.rackcdn.c om/f462fedcb6dc8ae0d338b3af211055ed530b481f.jpg__620x 350_q85_crop_upscale.jpg
Refresh rate aside, it’s a remarkable achievement, especially for a studio that, thanks to spending the previous generation working solely on PS3, had no PC version of its engine and thus had a more painful transition to PS4’s x86 architecture than most. Straley and Druckmann may take top billing, but you simply can’t create a game of this visual calibre without a tremendously skilled workforce. Modestly, Druckmann says it’s all about trust, that the scene he writes will pass through the hands of actors, cinematographers, artists, animators and so on, each interpreting it in their own way, before it makes it into the game. Nolan North, Drake’s voice actor, offers the outsider’s perspective.
“They’ve got amazing minds here,” he tells us. “Everyone does everything so well. I remember hearing one time that the test [applicants take] to work here… People have come in, ready to go, they take the test and they literally walk out crying. This is the MIT of the game world. There’s some amazing developers out there, but there’s something about this one that has made so many great games, and I think it’s the people. This couldn’t be done just anywhere. There’s something about the way they harness what the PlayStation can do that’s special.”
PlayStation 4 can do so much more, of course, but it also presents Naughty Dog with a problem. The console’s runaway success means the studio can reasonably expect its next game to be bought by players that have never played an Uncharted game. The goal of many sequels is to draw the old fans and grab new ones to create a bigger audience than before, of course, but here the gap is sure to be more pronounced. And three games of baggage is a heavy load, even for one of the best writing teams in the business.
“The story has to stand on its own, definitely,” says Druckmann. “And I think there should be enough hints and reveals to make you understand who Nathan Drake was in those previous adventures, even if you haven’t played them. If you have, then you’ll understand, on a much deeper level, the nuances both of Drake and his relationships.”
http://3ebd2a0c0ea48a333aea-1f531def8e8befb67be56667ce3edd11.r77.cf1.rackcdn.c om/de3cbfd4658e31eff1d9f569844691f53cbdd495.jpg__620x 350_q85_crop_upscale.jpg
In fact, the ending of Uncharted 3 gives Naughty Dog a clean break of sorts. The new game kicks off four years later, with Drake settled down and retired from a life of adventure. He’s lured back into his old ways by his brother, Sam, another treasure hunter whom Nathan has believed to be dead since he last saw him some 15 years ago. All that time ago, the pair were obsessed with finding treasure plundered by Henry Every, a pirate who amassed the largest ever haul of booty in the space of two years in the late 17th century, mostly looted in his capture of the Persian ship Gunsway, and believed to be worth half a billion dollars by modern standards. While Nathan moved on, Sam continued the search, and comes back into his brother’s life with a dual incentive for getting back on the road. He’s got a new lead on the location of Libertalia, Every’s mythical pirate utopia. And he’s in trouble with the sort of people you really don’t want to be in trouble with. Sam, played by Troy Baker, is not just a handy device for getting Nathan out of retirement – he gives Naughty Dog that clean narrative break. Uncharted 3 wrapped up Nathan’s troubles in the present. Now, the series can dig into his past.
“Every time we add a character, it has to reflect some facet of the protagonist in an interesting way that the other characters don’t,” Druckmann tells us. “Bringing in a brother really lets us explore [the question of] ‘Who is Nathan Drake?’ How has he evolved over the series from the person he was before, and even as a kid? What led to the Nathan Drake you know?”
Yet Sam’s arrival means, at least on the face of it, that the new Uncharted will be missing something it has always done so well. While Straley and Druckmann shift awkwardly in their seats whenever we try to eke further story details out of them, and give coded references to Drake being with allies during some levels, currently our hero has no female foil. Elena, now Nathan’s wife, is seemingly back home, and none too pleased with him coming out of retirement at that. Nate and Chloe went their separate ways in Uncharted 3’s third act. It’s tempting to draw a line to Hennig’s departure, mirroring the lack of a female voice in studio and game alike, but Ellie and Tess in The Last Of Us weren’t her work either.
Currently, the only known female character in the game is Nadine Ross, the leader of the South African private army that patrols the Madagascan island in which the demo is set. She and her crew have been hired by Rafe Adler, another treasure hunter, who has a history with both Drake and his brother. They’re the enemy, but Druckmann doesn’t like to think of them in such terms. “When we’re writing for them, we’re thinking: ‘What’s their point of view?’ They don’t see themselves as antagonists. They see themselves as being righteous. It’s very important that we don’t see them as bad guys.” He takes a similar view to writing women. “You just write human beings. Don’t necessarily think of them as men or women, just write with a clear motivation and clear objectives. Be honest with those characters; don’t write them as clichés. That’s when they stop being human.”
http://3ebd2a0c0ea48a333aea-1f531def8e8befb67be56667ce3edd11.r77.cf1.rackcdn.c om/d96d1ea59e1e61782081b49a30aa2e70c6420376.jpg__620x 350_q85_crop_upscale.jpg
Uncharted 4 takes many mechanical leaps forward, and Naughty Dog has smartly interwoven the game’s systems in a more fluid, dynamic way. But that alone does not a modern Naughty Dog game make. What defines this studio’s work is the way everything – mechanics, environments, characters – sits in service to a story. The demo begins with Nathan and Sam, a character sketched into existence to allow Druckmann and Straley to burrow into Drake’s past, pulled apart by a shipwreck. Sam signals to his brother from a high point far into the distance, the studio making a vast level and filling it with threats to properly convey the extent of their separation, and the importance of reuniting them. It’s set a few hours into the game, but the shipwreck has stripped Nathan of all his gear; he starts out with nothing, pulling the piton from a corpse early on, and scavenging weapons from enemies he puts down, another against-all-odds scramble to stay alive in a life that has been full of them. The whole scene is a metaphor for the brothers’ 15-year separation, a metaphor in which lots of people get punched in the face.
And scene is the word. “What we’re trying to do is look at everything, even the moments between cutscenes, as a scene,” Straley says. “There’s always something that’s happening with the character arc that’s important.” In the demo’s case, there’s a negative at the start in seeing how far away Sam is, and a positive at the end when you reach him; what happens in between is up to you. “We’re thinking in filmic terms, but what’s important for us is how much of that we can put on the [analogue] stick. That’s what we start with in the story discussions. Then, when we talk to the designers, it’s like, ‘This is where the characters are at, this is what we’re trying to do, and these are the mechanics we’re trying to exploit at this point. Let’s pull those things together and make the player feel what the characters are feeling’.”
For many studios, story is a secondary concern. Writers are brought on board late into development and tasked with fitting a narrative around a game that it is too far along to even consider changing. Yet for Naughty Dog, it is the first order of business. “I’m a big advocate of narrative structure, and that’s something we haven’t always done at the studio,” Druckmann says. “It’s very important that we know where we’re heading; even if it changes, you have to know the beginning, middle and end. Without that, I wouldn’t know how to direct a team. We have become more conscious of, more proficient at, storytelling. Whatever meeting we’re having – even if it’s background or character artists – we’re speaking the same language. We’re speaking as storytellers.”
Druckman and his team might be keeping quiet on the finer details, but while we naturally leave Naughty Dog hungry for more, we’ve already seen so much. The demo itself was smartly chosen, a fine showcase of the overhauled mechanics and how they work in concert; out on the studio floor we’ve seen how it has been made, with much of that best-in-class tech rebuilt from the ground up by some of the most talented developers in the world. Above all, we’ve seen an evolution: a studio moving onto new hardware, rethinking its approach to making games, learning from its successes and paying heed to criticism, while putting front and centre something that too many games leave to the end. “There’s something about the videogame as an artform that allows you to connect with a character in a way no other medium allows,” Druckmann says. “You’re directing someone’s actions, empathising with them in a way that’s unique to videogames. We’re just now starting to really understand how to capitalise on that.” No doubt Uncharted 4 will have its detractors, but if the studio holds to its new vision, no one will accuse it of repeating its past mistakes. In years to come, when crudely sketched webcomics say ‘Everything was Uncharted,’ the meaning will be very different.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to use TLOU Flashlight Tech

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, is undoubtedly one of 2015’s most eagerly anticipated titles. The Sony franchise has gathered millions of fans, and it now probably stands as one, if not the strongest PlayStation property. Members of the Naughty Dog team, during an interview with Spanish site HobbyConsolas (http://www.hobbyconsolas.com/noticias/entrevista-disenadores-uncharted-4-desenlace-ladron-110356), have shared their insight of how Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will use The Last of Us’ flashlight technology, to allow a variety of scenarios of exploration in dark areas.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End-635x357.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End.jpg)
Lead Designer Ricky Cambier, explained,

Yes, there will be a variety of scenarios exploiting the flashlight, always in relation to the story. For example in the demo [shown at PSX], while looking for his brother Nathan must enter a cave; some of the mysteries of the island will be observed while exploring its darkness.
Designer Kurt Margenau, added,

Yes, the flashlight allows us to design darker areas and take advantage of the animations allowed by the new hardware.
Finally, Director Bruce Straley, went on to further explain the implementation of the flashlight in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,

The good thing about the flashlight technology that we already used in The Last of Us is that, even though you’re entering a dark area, it’s not actually dark once you use the flashlight, and this creates a balance of sorts. Whenever we introduce new mechanics, we try to make it as efficient as possible in order to expand the game as a whole. For example, in this case you’ll be using the flashlight in puzzles to reveal something or even to highlight things in the environment, such as those crabs you see in the demo entering a skeleton. Small details like that gain importance simply by pointing the flashlight, which makes you feel part of the world.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, will feature some very atmospheric exploration moments It appears that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, will feature some very interesting environments, and allow for great levels of exploration and discovery. The dynamic nature that the new technology will provide, will certainly enhance the experience, elevating the atmosphere of the game, and immersing players into captivating situations. The use of the flashlight to solve puzzles, could prove exciting, and as mentioned by designer Kurt Margenau, the PlayStation 4 hardware will allow for some really advanced lighting and shadow technology to be used in the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ow2cL-pp6p8

The Last of Us was indeed, an incredible single player experience, and one of the greatest video games ever made. It certainly used the flashlight technology in very interesting ways, to enhance the gameplay and tension of certain situations. The nature of the game though was more focused on its action sequences and stealth rather than exploration or discovery. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on the other hand, employs more freedom for the player, to search and explore secret caverns and areas, to solve puzzles and traverse through.
The platforming elements of the franchise will likely provide another great use for the lighting technology, especially in dimly lit areas, that will further enhance the impact of certain situations, in which Nathan Drake finds himself into. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is definitely one of the titles I’m looking forward to this year, and I cannot wait to see some new footage of what Naughty Dog has achieved. Naughty Dog is certainly doing their best to enhance Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, even further, so chances are that what we get to see next, will impress us even further.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is stated for a 2015 release exclusively on the PlayStation 4 platform. We will bring you any new information regarding the game as soon as it becomes available.

Everyone in the entertainment industry, as well as millions of fans around the world, are saddened by the loss of such a great person and huge actor, and find ways to honor his memory in their own way.

The Uncharted series always had a big focus on emotional moments, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, seems to expand that trend even further The Uncharted series, has always had a large focus on character development, and emotional scenes and that exactly, was one of the main reasons, it had such a big impact and appeal to many gamers. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End “Likely to be 1080P/30FPS”

In the past Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has released some gorgeous looking concept-art (http://wccftech.com/gorgeous-uncharted-4-thiefs-concept-art-surfaced/), and more recently Neil Druckmann, Creative Director for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, teased us (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-thiefs-director-teases-emotional-scene/) about how the story will have some very emotional elements and scenes. But now the Play UK magazine (https://www.imagineshop.co.uk/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/3454/s/play-issue-254) has gotten some hands on experience with the game and according to them it looks like it might after all end up running at 1080P 30FPS.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-2-635x397.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-2.jpg)
Naughty Dog won’t push Uncharted 4 to 60FPS if “it compromises player experience” The gameplay demo that was shown last year during the PlayStation Experience (shown below) later was revealed (http://www.gamesradar.com/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-preview/) by game director Bruce Straley, that the demo was in fact capped at 30FPS, he followed up by saying “We’re actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo]”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ow2cL-pp6p8

Naughty dog has previously stated that they won’t compromise the player experience such as building smaller environments or using lower textures by trying to push the game to 60FPS.

“We’re going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player’s experience, then it’s our choice as developers to say, ‘Well, we’re going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.’”
And now after Play UK guys had some hands-on experience they indicate that Uncharted 4 will very likely end up running at 1080P 30FPS. The following is an excerpt from the latest issue of the magazine:

“While Naughty Dog’s first big reveal of Uncharted 4 was with a 60FPS trailer, cynics were quick to point out that even The Last of Us – an upscaled PS3 port – struggled to hold a steady 60FPS frame-rate. Although the studio said it was targeting this level of fluidity, it’s looking increasingly likely that the final game will be locked at 30FPS. The game’s not a twitch shooter, fighter or arcade racer so this shouldn’t hurt the game too much. It might even be that we see an unlocked frame rate as in Second Son or Tomb Raider, hopefully with the option to lock to 30 if desired.”
On the other hand it appears as the Animation quality is a big step up from the last-gen counterpart Uncharted 3, with Uncharted 4 reportedly having “60 animations for picking up ammo” compared to the the two different animations in Uncharted 3.
Uncharted 4 is slated for release on PS4 later this year, and who knows Naughty Dog might be able to push it to 60FPS but at the moment this seems unlikely, only time will tell.

Uncharted 4 Gets Delayed to Spring 2016 to Meet the High Standards of The Dev Team

Earlier, we brought you news about the PS4 exclusive Uncharted 4 running in full hd and churning out a framerate locked at 30 frames per second (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-1080p30fps/). According to the recent information that has come to light, the game that was supposedly running 1080p at 30 frames per second is no longer going to be released in 2015. According to the game’s directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, the game is not polished enough to keep up with the “ambitious” response from the fans. Hence has been delayed to Spring 2016 and will help the team meet its followers “High Standards”.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-3-635x357.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-3.jpg)
“Come Spring 2016, You and Nate Are In For One Thrilling, Emotional Ride” Uncharted 4 Director The news comes from the official PlayStation Blog where the author Neil Druckmann happens to be a director for the upcoming game. According to the blog post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/11/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-coming-spring-2016/), after the first gameplay reveal of the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the developers have realised that the game’s expectations cannot be fulfilled in the amount of time they had. Hence, they decided to shift the release date some months further to Spring 2016. Here’s what the blog post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/11/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-coming-spring-2016/) reads:

“Since we showed you our first gameplay reveal of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, more of the game and story have come together, and it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.

After spending so many years with Nathan Drake, he means a lot to the team, and telling the climactic chapter of his adventures is a task we don’t take lightly — this game deserves every bit of the attention to detail, precise pacing, and nuanced storytelling Naughty Dog is known for. So we’ve made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards, but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.
Thank you for your patience — we know the extra wait will be excruciating, but you’ll see it will be worth it as we reveal more about Uncharted 4 over the next year. The team at Naughty Dog will be heads down working through 2015 making sure that Nathan Drake’s story gets the closure it deserves. Come Spring 2016, you and Nate are in for one thrilling, emotional ride.
Bruce Straley & Neil Druckmann // Directors, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”
So, yes it is official that the game is delayed and will be a 2016 release. Do share your views on the game’s delay in the comments section.

Uncharted 4 – Monkey Bars Maneuvers

Uncharted 4: A Thief’ End has been recently delayed until 2016, something that disappointed a lot of fans. Naughty Dog made a commitment that the extra time will be put to good use, to make Uncharted 4 the best it can be.
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-1-635x262.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-1.jpg)
Jeremy Yates, lead animator for Uncharted 4, tweeted a picture of the work being done at the new stage. We can see some acrobatic maneuvers, that would definitely look amazing if the team take the extra time to attain that 60 fps, and not settle for 30. Yates work has always been exemplary, but Uncharted 4 could potentially make it shine just a bit brighter, by enabling the great work to be displayed in its full glory and not be restricted by hardware limitations.

Uncharted 4 – Box Art Possibly Revealed by Amazon

Amazon updated its cover art for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and while Sony did not officially release the box art just yet, this seems quite believable.
You can check it out the cover art below:
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4-635x797.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4.jpg)
Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter Nathan Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on his greatest adventure yet in a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. However, every treasure has its cost and this adventure will test Drake’s physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the latest installment of the award winning UNCHARTED series. Created by acclaimed developer Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 system. Bringing the franchise into the new generation of gaming, A Thief’s End will be the most epic Uncharted adventure yet featuring new dynamic gameplay mechanics for combat and traversal, larger and more open environments to explore, and enhanced graphics and character animations to bring the game to life in a whole new way.
Set three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Nathan Drake has presumably left the world of fortune hunting behind. However, it doesn’t take long for adventure to come calling when Drake’s brother, Sam, resurfaces seeking his help to save his own life and offering an adventure Drake can’t resist.
On the hunt for Captain Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure, Sam and Drake set off to find Libertalia, the pirate utopia deep in the forests of Madagascar. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End takes players on a journey around the globe, through jungle isles, urban cities and snow-capped peaks on the search for Avery’s fortune.
Naughty Dog (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSoc4XAihwzAA7p29tpAu9A) released a quite interesting video detailing what the job of a Visual Effect Artist at the highly acclaimed studio entails. Naughty Dog is all hands on deck preparing for E3 2015 We have recently mentioned that Naughty Dog is all hands on deck (http://wccftech.com/naughty-dog-full-force-uncharted-4-preparation-e3/) in preparation for E3, and during a livestream to support Supply Drop 2015 the studio’s QA lead Trevor Stevens talked about the testing being done on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Sony has recently announced the time and date for its E3 2015 Press Conference (http://wccftech.com/sony-dates-e3-press-conference-full-schedule-set-details-game-announcements-demos/), which will be held at 6:30 PM PDT on Monday, June 15. The event itself will take place at the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Andrew House, during his presentation for the Electronics Investor Relations Day 2015, he shared his expectations for E3 2015 (http://wccftech.com/e3-2015-list-confirmed-games/).

“I think that E3 this year will be an exciting show. I think that it will be a show where we see the next generation of hardware really start to deliver great content and great experiences that if not take full advantage of the platform, will a lot more advantage than we’ve seen before.
I think we’re seeing games become bigger experiences, that trend has not changed. I gave a first party example with Bloodborne earlier, I was reading some of the game media reviews on that. Some of the gaming press were calling this “the first proper next-gen title.” I really hope to see more of these experiences emerging at E3.”
Guerilla’s open world RPG, Horizon (http://wccftech.com/guerillas-ip-scififantasy-theme-job-listing-reveals-details/), is probably going to be revealed with hopefully some beautiful gameplay, and we might get a teaser of Sucker Punch’ new title. We can hope for a PS4 God of War announcement as well.
Insomniac will give us a glimpse of the Ratchet & Clank (http://wccftech.com/ratchet-promises-ingame-screenshots-coming/) reboot title for the PS4, which is a re-imagining of the franchise set to release alongside the movie in 2016. We will likely get a better look at Project Morpheus, along with a few VR optimised titles, and probably a release date for the device.
The new title from Quantic Dream (http://wccftech.com/quantic-dream-announce-ps4-exclusive/) should most definitely be revealed, which will surely be something to look forward to, as their Dark Sorcerer demo at E3 2013 was truly something spectacular and demonstrated the potential of the PlayStation 4 hardware in the capable hands of the Quantic Dream studio, led by the visionary David Cage.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-naughty-dog-seeking-fashion-stylist-fuel-inspiration/) is currently planned for a Spring 2016 release for the PlayStation 4. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Is Definitely Coming Today

Last night the mobile version of the PlayStation Store revealed the existence of an Uncharted bundle that included all of the previous titles for the PS3, but just for a few fleeting moments. Thankfully, it’s real and more details are coming later this morning.

[Updated] Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Arrives in October With Remastered Graphics

Sony has officially revealed the existence of the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection bundle that includes all of the previous titles and makes them playable on the PS4. Thankfully, it’s real and we can pre-order now or wait until October to purchase the Uncharted collection.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has been confirmed by Naughty Dog and Sony, coming October 9th 2015 for the PS4. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has now been confirmed (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/06/04/uncharted-the-nathan-drake-collection-out-october-9th-on-ps4/) by Sony, with a release date of October 7th in Europe and October 9th in North America, and it’ll definitely be coming to the PS4.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which includes the single player campaigns for Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, will also give you exclusive access to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta once that goes live, which is still TBA.
All three of the Uncharted games have been remastered to run at 1080P and at 60FPS with updated textures, lighting, models and higher polygon counts throughout. Of course with the remastered versions there will be new trophies to earn and a new Photo Mode.
If you happen to be in a pre-ordering mood, you’ll get some interesting extras with the Nathan Drake Pack. This pack includes a slew of different player skins and outfits to make your Drake unique, a Golden AK-47 and a Golden Beretta 92FS. Digital pre-ordering also nets you a cool Nathan Drake Collection PS4 dynamic theme.
If you’d like, you can watch the uncompressed trailer in all it’s glory right here (http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_uncharted_the_nathan_drake_collection_tra iler-34796_en.html).

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to confirm whether the bundle will just be a discounted collection for the PS3 or if they are indeed remade and remastered versions for the PS4. One would hope that they’re for the newer console, however.

Nolan North: “It’s Great That Naughty Dog Allowed Nathan Drake to Mature”

At a recent event in London, Nolan North, the man behind Nathan Drake, took to the stage with PlayStation Access’ own Hollie Bennett to answer your questions about working on the Uncharted series, including the upcoming Uncharted 4.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-2-635x397.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Uncharted-4-AThiefs-End-2.jpg)
You can watch the video below:

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zae4paRro5Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Nolan North discusses motion capture and praises Naughty Dog for allowing Nathan Drake to mature:

“I think that it’s great that a developer has allowed the character to age and grow and mature with all of us,” he said. “Previously, this sort of thing never happened – y’know, it was always like… That’s the character and he’s going to go and kick ass again, let’s do it.”
He continues to talk about Drake’s character and how we can relate to him:

“If you think about the things that make him such an interesting hero it’s that he’s very much like all of us,” he added. “He’s a guy that never sought to be a hero, and he never starts the fight. But he always finds a way to get through things, like we all do – heck, I’ve got a 15-year-old son, so everyday’s a challenge.”
Nolan concludes:

“I’m so happy that they’ve allowed Nathan Drake to age, because otherwise I wouldn’t be playing him.”

Naughty Dog Lead Designer Touts the Studio’s Engine: “Has the Sickest Blends”

Naughty Dog has certainly achieved some incredible feats over the last few years, and accomplished some outstanding work with the Uncharted series and the absolute masterpiece that was The Last of Us. It is fair to say that Naughty Dog is one of the best gaming studios in the industry.

Naughty Dog’s PS4 engine is simply extraordinary, and enables four times the texture resolution compared to Uncharted for the PS3. Naughty Dog’s lead designer Antony Newman took to Twitter to tout the capabilities of the engine.

Uncharted 4 Gets Amazing New Gameplay and Stunning 1080p Screenshots

Naughty Dog has revealed some new gameplay footage of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during Sony’s E3 press conference, and it looked awesome.

We get to see some vehicle gameplay, and Nathan Drake budding up with Sally for some urban environments shootouts. The populated market seems rather interesting as Nathan touches and moves aside the people occupying the area, and even excuses himself gently from a pedestrian in order to pass by him. It adds a dynamic that has not been present in previous titles, at least not to this extend.

The vehicle gameplay is a first for the series, and the driving segment seems quite enjoyable, both in what appear to be some fun mechanics, as well as being able to smash through the environment, creating some destruction effects, and even jumping across rooftops.
The gunplay seems to retain most of the mechanics of previous Uncharted titles, with the addition of some exciting new

Uncharted 4′ Directors Share Information on Mechanics, Differences With The Last of Us

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-amazing-gameplay/) during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action.
During a livestream on GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/e3/kinda-funny-stage-day-2/), Game Director Bruce Straley and Creative Director Neil Druckmann talked about the game and revealed a few more details.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-looking_1434429044-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-looking_1434429044.jpg)
Some of the main points talked about can be viewed below:

The jeep is fully physics-driven.
Druckmann mentions that he wants the team to feel proud of their work, rather than caring about satisfying the reviewers.
Uncharted differs greatly from the tone of The Last of Us, and after three and a half years of working on the latter, it’s like a breath of fresh air going back to the epic and spectacle.
Straley mentioned that there’s a huge difference between demoing The Last of Us and Uncharted 4. With Uncharted 4 they’re just “Wohooo! Yeah! Uncharted is Awesome!”
Straley is happy about where the studio is at, he’s really excited to talk about Uncharted 4, and it’s fun for him to play the demo, to be back to the heart of Uncharted and be like “right, we’re allowed to crank it to eleven, we’re allowed to just have a romp, an adventure, and be Nathan Drake again.”
Straley explains theat there’s a lot of thought, discussion, and work behind it the project.
Druckmann states the studio’s intention to create a story that stands on its own, while retaining some of the elements that made the previous games special.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is not handled internally as the studio needs to focus entirely on Uncharted 4.
Straley mentiones that he is happy of the current state of the project, and eventhough there is a lot of work left, a lot of the game is done.
The rope has many uses including traversal, problem solving, in puzzles or even inside an action set piece.
There are additonal new mechanics to show, and they might introduce them at alter date.

The store previously had the placeholder March 31 date, but it has been now changed to April 22, as can be seen in the image below:

Naughty Dog Hides an Awesome Easter Egg in the Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-amazing-gameplay/) during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. As the image below demonstrates the license plate of the jeep featured in the trailer, hides Elena’s name. The VN373, when turned upside down and cleverly getting an added scratch turning the upside V into an A, spells ELENA and the “FISH” shape and letter “R” forming her last name, FISHER.

Uncharted 4 Features Chest Hair That Blows in the Wind!

It has been announced that Nathan Drakes chest hair will be affected by the elements in the upcoming game title Uncharted 4! The news was recently announced by Naughty Dog Dynamics Artist Neilan Naicker during a panel at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games and Animation. You can watch the entire panel discussion on Gnomon’s archived livestream (https://www.gnomon.edu/community/events/headspace-an-evening-with-naughty-dog).
“I don’t know if you guys have seen pictures of this, but Drake has animating chest hair that blows in the wind.” was said by Mr. Naicker at 49:13 mark. It appears that the same technology using for the grass and vegetation is used on Drakes chest hair! Just wait till NVIDIA Gameworks or AMD TressFX Hair 3.0 gets involved to make this hair rendering even better!
“The chest hair is working exactly like the grass. It’s all in synergy.” – Andrew Maximov

I’m not certain, but Naughty Dog Character Concept Artist Ashley Swidoswski might have had something to do with all this as she happily pointed out the chest hair at a tech demo in December 2014 (https://youtu.be/wdUxLsNfLls?t=28m33s)!

Uncharted 4 – Lots of Info on Gameplay, Frame Rate and More

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-amazing-gameplay/) during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End-635x357.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End.jpg)
As promised Naughty Dog have broadcasted the whole E3 2015 demo (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-thiefs-watch-incredible-full-16-minute-e3-demo/) on their twitch channel, showcasing an awesome chase sequence as Drake and Sully race to help Drake’s brother, Sam evade Shoreline mercenaries.
Just after showing the full E3 demo of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Co-Lead Game Designers Kurt Margenau and Anthony Newman answered a few questions from the fans.
A summary of the information they shared can be viewed below as compiled by Dualshockers (http://www.dualshockers.com/2015/07/01/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end/):

The team is still working on improving the gameplay included in the demo. For instance, a developer has noticed that the speedometer of the Jeep was at zero during the demo.
The demo isn’t an early level, but it’s a little later, after the player has already gotten used to the mechanics.
It’s not accurate that the game is getting darker because the team behind The Last of Us is working on it. The series is just maturing, but the theme is still adventurous and bombastic.
The jeep is something Naughty Dog wanted to do in the Uncharted series for a while, and it overlaps a lot with other mechanics in the game, like the rope.
The team looked at the game and picked up the appropriate slice of gameplay for E3, according to the fact that it can show the best features of the game in little time, with the right pacing and without needing too much setup.
The demo is one of the craziest parts of the game, and it’s the current benchmark for the number of objects on the screen and distractibility.
Naughty Dog hasn’t decided how long the game will be, bit feels the biggest Uncharted they ever made.
The multiplayer beta will be exclusive to those who will buy the Nathan Drake Collection.
Sam Drake is “much more Drake’s equal” than any other character in the game, as he’s similar to him and has the same skills and knowledge. The chemistry between voice actors is great.
Single Player will run at 30 frames per second. It was the best solution for the gameplay and quality, and Naughty Dog wanted to have the best looking game possible, with the best graphics and physics possible. Framerate has to be considered against everything else in the game, and the developers feel that locked, stable 30 FPS is better than variable 60. On top of that, higher frame rate would require even more optimization for every level, inflating the time it takes for each to get made and requiring the team to make more compromises.
Multiplayer still targets 60 frames per second, and the team can’t wait to show it off.
The team learned from The Last of Us to create more open levels, and core mechanics influencing the interaction between characters, to make them come out as more alive.
Having an Arabic language localization is a priority for the team, but it’s not known if it’ll actually be in, for now.
The rope has been implemented because it’s a perfectly natural evolution, and an extension of the fluidity of Uncharted‘s gameplay. Very little of it was shown so far, but it’s a big part of the game and it’s gonna be used a lot. It’s the most realistic rope Newman has ever seen. It can pin on a ledge and create a swing point. The spin point can also physically slide.
Nathan Drake is physically enabled almost all the time, and a lot of ragdoll physics have been added to him. There’s a lot of “crazy new tech” going on with him. The team wanted to make him as responsive as possible to the stick, but still look like a person reacting realistically (but in a slightly over-the-top cinematic way) to situations.
There are different animations for slightly lover cover positions, to which Drake can automatically switch as the cover becomes lower (for instance the deflating bags).
There’s going to be a photo mode in the game, and the team is going to improve it from the one we saw in The Last of Us.

Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the latest installment of the award-winning UNCHARTED series.

Naughty Dog confirms Uncharted 4 is 30FPS on the PlayStation 4

Back in February, we reported that Naughty Dog said that hitting 60FPS on the PS4 with Uncharted 4 was 'really f**king hard' (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43394/naughty-dog-uncharted-4-60fps-ps4-really-king-hard/index.html), with the developer inevitably hitting that brick wall. Naughty Dog has now confirmed that the single player side of Uncharted 4 will be locked at 30FPS.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/6/46286_02_naughty-dog-confirms-uncharted-4-30fps-playstation.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/6/46286_02_naughty-dog-confirms-uncharted-4-30fps-playstation_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/6/46286_02_naughty-dog-confirms-uncharted-4-30fps-playstation.jpg

Co-Lead Designer on Uncharted 4, Anthony Newman, explained that the frame rate being locked to 30FPS was because "the game we wanted to make, to make the best game possible. To me, a locked 30 is better than a variable 60".

This change to 30FPS for Uncharted 4 on the PS4 does have me asking a question: Naughty Dog did promise it was sticking with 1080p 60FPS for future games (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/40743/naughty-dog-will-stick-with-1080p-60fps-for-future-games-on-the-ps4/index.html). If the studio can't hit 60FPS on the PS4 without a large jump in visual fidelity over Uncharted 3 on the PS3, we need to really start tackling a big problem: the current generation consoles were never fast enough to begin with. Oops, there, I said it, again.

Naughty Dog: “That super great-looking Nathan Drake that’s in the cutscenes–that’s going to be the guy you have the whole time”

During the second interview of the newly started series from Sony, Conversation with Creators (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFxSz8Yqy9w) with Will Wheaton, Naughty Dog’s Anthony Newman, who is the co-lead designer of Uncharted 4, stressed once again that they are using real-time cutscenes for Uncharted 4.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-looking_1434429044-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-looking_1434429044.jpg)
Uncharted 4 will feature real-time custcenes
“We’re actually doing real-time cutscenes in Uncharted 4, which is a new step for us,”
“You’re not going to see those black bars that we used to have in between gameplay and cutscenes. That’s going to let us be so much more expressive and really get that seamlessness between the storytelling and the gameplay. Which we already do very well, but it’s going to allow us to take it to that next level.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/uncharted-4-2-635x357.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/uncharted-4-2.jpg)

The incredible detail and emotions will be present on Nathan Drake’s character model at all times
“That super great-looking Nathan Drake that’s in the cutscenes–that’s going to be the guy you have the whole time. The lighting model is nearly identical. All of that emotion you get across in the cutscenes, you’ll have in gameplay all the time.”
The astounding detail and emotional responses will surely give players a stronger connection with the character, making you feel like you are controlling a real person, that responds accordingly in any different situation. This could result in a far more immersive experience, that despite the linear nature of the game will feel much more dynamic and alive.

Tomb Raider has long been a franchise with a big focus on exploration and puzzle solving, as well as providing some platforming thrills and shooting sequences. 2013’s Tomb Raider, focused more in creating a strong origin story for Lara Croft, and helping players of a new generation identify with the heroine in a more subtle way, by introducing the tomb element in a more linear but still effective and appealing form.
This time around she is more prepared and better equipped, to face bigger challenges and explore larger tombs with much more puzzle solving and platforming action. The environment of Siberia will offer more extreme conditions for Lara to adapt to, and her new equipment will be put to great use when facing avalanches and climbing dangerous icy peaks.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics demonstrated the first gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider (http://wccftech.com/rise-tomb-raider-stunning-gameplay/). The game looks absolutely stunning, especially with the impressive Siberia setting’s weather and environmental effects taking center stage.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is scheduled to arrive in Winter 2015 exclusively on Xbox platforms. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016. We will bring you any new information on both Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, as soon as it becomes available.

The Myriad Of Facial Expressions For The Announced Uncharted 4

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/024x576-800x450.jpg
The Uncharted series is Sony’s version of being able to market something right for a change, not Pixels or Jumanji 2, these are or will be dreadful. The recently announced Uncharted 4 “A Thief’s End” which is due to be released in 2016 promises to be an exciting adventure for your PS4.
An interview which was conducted with Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli and Arne Meyer spoke about how the game’s characters will emote in different ways. According to the discussion, the dev team are able to push the PS4 past the limit of the previous generation of consoles to achieve “a higher benchmark in rendering tech with the aim of increasing the fidelity of these characters, this is with the aim of more realistic character movements”. They went on to say that Uncharted 4 is likely to have “nearly endless facial expressions” which will no doubt add to the realism and immersive nature of the game.
An interesting note to this is the intricate details which could be captured within Uncharted 4, for example, in real life a human being constantly moves their eyes and lips without thinking. It’s not all about graphics but the general human feel which draws players in. (Writes “it’s more to games than graphics”, gets a graphics card chucked at the head).
Other news to glean from this interview includes the length of the game which will be “roughly of the same length. We have gone a bit longer in recent times so I would expect somewhere in that ballpark.” which sounds as if it will be consistent with the last titles. Another note which was revealed is that there is going to be “pacing between the intense moments to give you a little bit of rest.” Which is good considering a game is more than a series of nonstop set pieces which allows the player to have a richer experience

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FscxPhlDOPE

Uncharted 4 will not surprisingly be PS4 exclusive, this should be certainly a game which excites and enthralls players; unless Sony has another moment.
Thank You Gaming Bolt (http://gamingbolt.com/uncharted-4-has-nearly-endless-set-of-facial-expressions-game-length-similar-to-previous-games) channel for providing us with this information

Uncharted 4 To Have A New Balance Between Spectacle Vs Intimate Set-Pieces

The Uncharted 4 E3 Demo, showed off a frantic set-piece that became bigger and bigger, and left the audience with jaws open on the floor. Luckily for those who can’t take that much action – not all set-pieces in Naughty Dog’s last Uncharted chapter, will be as big and frantic as that particular scene.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-scaffolding_1434429059-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-scaffolding_1434429059.jpg)
Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann, said this in a recent interview with Official Playstation Magazine UK (https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fne wsstand%2Fdetails%3Fid%3DCAow67-IAg%26cdid%3Dmagazineissue-CAAqBwgKMOu_iAIwwNDOAQ&h=VAQF_8bPl).
During last E3, Naughty Dog showed off an epic Uncharted 4 set-piece that might well be, one of the most intense action scenes in videogame history. Following the demo, the audience was gasping for air, and the game received several E3 Game Critics Rewards (http://wccftech.com/game-critics-awards-e3-2015-winners-announced-fallout-4-uncharted-4-big-winners/), including one for best action/adventure game.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sB0xy74Zrj8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Uncharted has evolvedOver the years, the Uncharted series have evolved, and it would seem that developer Naughty Dog has become more and more proficient in delivering unique set-pieces for their games. In the OPM UK interview, Druckmann talks about the evolution of their set-pieces in the Uncharted games, but also mentions the more ‘smaller’ pieces from ‘The Last of Us’.
“I guess our approach in the past has been to go bigger”, says the creative director. “You saw that evolution from Uncharted 2 to Uncharted 3, but with this one we felt like if we went any bigger, it would become comical; we could become a parody of ourselves. So it became really about how do we make them unique? How do we make them more playable?”
“What we did with The Last of Us was we constantly went small, quote-unquote, with the set-pieces. The became these very intimate sections. So you had Joel when he’s injured and he’s stumbling; that’s still a set-piece”.

Expect big-spectable set-pieces, but also more intimate onesAccording Druckmann, a particular set-piece from The Last of Us ‘Left Behind’ DLC, took as much work as the collapsing building set-piece from Uncharted 2. “I keep telling this story and people don’t believe me, but the photobooth in Left Behind, and the pictures that Ellie and Riley take – that took as much work as the collapsing building in Uncharted 2 as far as man-hours and recourses. It’s this really small moment, if you were to look at it and compare it to a film, but for us it’s like: we have so many recourses, so how do we best allocate them”.
The creative director reassures Uncharted fans that the upcoming Uncharted 4 will have big set-pieces, but will also feature more intimate moments.
“Yes, we’re going to have big-spectacle set-pieces, but the thing that The Last of Us and Left Behind gave us, is the confidence that to create these small intimate moments where there isn’t a threat of death, but it’s another way to get to know the characters through interactivity”. Those are really, for us, just as exciting as what you saw at E3; the big spectacles. I’m excited to see how fans react to that new balance of spectacle versus intimate [moments]”, Druckmann added.
Uncharted 4 will release for PS4 on March 18th, 2016.

As a reminder, the Uncharted 4 MP beta will be exclusively available to those who have purchased Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog revealed a lot more details during yesterday’s livestream (embedded below, just in case you want to watch it); first of all, the Uncharted 4 MP beta will occupy about 7GB of your PlayStation 4’s hard drive.
There will be only one game mode available in this test, Team Deathmatch, but many more will be featured in the full game. As for the maps, the beta will have two while the full game will get eight in total (all of them brand new – there won’t be any reimagining of Uncharted 2/Uncharted 3 maps, at least for launch).
Advertisements

The time limit of each match is set at 12 minutes or 35 kills for now, with most matches taking between 8 and 10 minutes according to the developer.
It will be possible to purchase gear such as grenades, C4 and the likes during the match; however, the cash price of a certain item will increase the more you purchase it, in order to discourage players from using specific items repeatedly.
There also seems to be a loadout system similar to Call of Duty’s “Pick X”. Players will have 25 points to spend, with each item costing a certain amount of points. One of the big new features of Uncharted 4 multiplayer is the addition of sidekicks, which according to Naughty Dog is only possible thanks to PlayStation 4’s power.
Players can equip up to three sidekicks at a time, though only one can be active. If you want to change it during the match, the previous one will “die”. Also, sidekicks can apparently earn cash on your behalf.

Uncharted 4 Gets Three New Awesome Cinematic Videos

Naughty Dog and Sony Computer Entertainment released three new cinematic videos for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, before and during the PlayStation Experience 2015 event.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_psx_trailer-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_psx_trailer.jpg)
Arguably the most important one is the cinematic where Nathan Drake receives the visit of his brother (who was presumed dead and never showed up before Uncharted 4), Sam.
Interestingly, Sam wants to catch up with Nathan’s past adventures and at that point, the ability to choose one of three options (El Dorado, Shambhala and Iram of the Pillars, the three lost cities featured in Uncharted 1, 2 and 3) appears. This may suggest that players could enjoy some degree of choice during cutscenes in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which would be a first for the franchise.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IOmPDvVz3MA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The other two videos introduce a new character featured in Uncharted 4, Nadine Ross. In the first video, she introduces herself in a hostile way to Nathan, with the cutscene ending in a transition to gameplay where the two will likely engage in a fist fight.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/02OnzheWyqo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Another Uncharted 4 video was released during a PlayStation Experience panel. In this video, Nathan, Sully and Sam are at a ball; while the Drake brothers slip into a different room downstairs (presumably to retrieve something), Sully receives the visit of Nadine, who seems to be an acquaintance of his.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TICyinQVFb4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The video was grabbed from the live stream and its quality is not as good as the previous ones. Even so, it’s impossible not to notice the amazing facial animations realized once again by Naughty Dog.

As a reminder, the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta is currently ongoing (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-mp-beta-begins-tomorrow-file-size-and-info-revealed/). It’s available for the owners of the Uncharted – Nathan Drake Collection and it will end on December 13.

Sony Wants to know your Uncharted 4 MP Beta Thoughts

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_psx_trailer-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_psx_trailer.jpg)
If you took part in the Uncharted 4 MP beta (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-spectacular-multiplayer-trailer/), Sony wants to know what you think.
If you were involved, check the email linked to your PlayStation Network account. Kojima’s new bosses (http://wccftech.com/kojima-new-game-military-rpg-mp-vehicles-monsters/) may have emailed you with a short survey.
They’re looking to find out whether you’d recommend the game to a friend, how likely you are to purchase the title following the beta, your favorite things and what you’d like to see improved, and how you feel it compares to other multiplayer experiences. On top of that, they’re also interested in knowing how satisfied you are overall.
In short, if you were impressed, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to gush. They’re also after information on your past Uncharted history and how often you tend to play online.
The final adventure is around four months away, so it’s unlikely that any overly negative feedback will be acted upon, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth filling in honestly.
Minor improvements could be implemented before the game goes gold, and anything that’s too difficult to put in could end up informing future patches.
Uncharted 4, supposedly the last game in the series and the final one to feature PlayStation icon Nathan Drake, will be available for purchase in March 2016 exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Uncharted 4 Gets Amazing New HQ Visual From New Trailer

Uncharted 4 is only a few months away from being released, and a new amazing promotional visual in high-quality, has surfaced online.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End-635x357.jpg
A new Uncharted 4 promotional trailer is being shown during the opening weekend for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in select US theatres, and the visual is a screenshot from that trailer.
The official Playstation Twitter account, tweeted that visual earlier (https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/677626500590518272) today, but a user on Reddit managed (https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/3xalqf/new_uncharted_4_promo_pic_in_high_resolution_image/) to get his hands on a high quality sample of the shot.
As said, the visual comes from a new Uncharted 4 trailer shown at select US theatres, but will probably surface online soon enough.
Uncharted 4 HQ promotional shot from new trailer In the promotional image, we can see Uncharted’s main hero, Nathan Drake, diving towards some ancient golden coin. The coin probably refers to Captain Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure.

Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter Nathan Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on his greatest adventure in a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. Every treasure has its cost and this adventure will test Drake’s physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.
According Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4 will be Nathan Drake’s last adventure, as well as the last in the game’s series developed by Naughty Dog.
Recently we posted that with Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog is trying to find a new balance between spectacle and intimate set-pieces (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-balance-spectacle-intimate-setpieces/).

“Those are really, for us, just as exciting as what you saw at E3; the big spectacles. I’m excited to see how fans react to that new balance of spectacle versus intimate [moments]”, Druckmann added.
Uncharted 4 is scheduled for a release on March 18, exclusively for Sony’s Playstation 4.

Naughty Dog Has Some “Sick” Ideas For Uncharted 4 Multiplayer They Haven’t Shown Yet

If you own Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (and you should (http://wccftech.com/review/uncharted-the-nathan-drake-collection-review/)), chances are you participated in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta last week.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_mp-635x381.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_mp.jpg)
However, even if you did you shouldn’t assume that there won’t be any surprises in the final game for this mode. In fact, Lead Multiplayer Designer Robert Cogburn teased some interesting stuff for Uncharted 4 multiplayer in an interview published yesterday on Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-will-end-the-story-but-not-the-action/1100-6433207/).

[Laughs] It’s going to be fun to consider which direction we take things. We’ve got some sick ideas.
The team has been working really hard, and we’re excited to release the game. We have some ideas we haven’t shown yet, and we’re excited to get them out there.
The “sick ideas” answer is a reference to the supernatural elements Naughty Dog has introduced in Uncharted 4 multiplayer, in stark contrast to the more grounded The Last of Us.
During multiplayer matches, players will be able to harness the power of certain Mysticals that have been introduced in Uncharted lore through the previous games. Here’s a list of the known Mysticals so far, though with Cogburn’s tease it’s safe to expect more of them:
Advertisements

Wrath of El Dorado – When thrown, the El Dorado sarcophagus from Uncharted 1 appears to unleash spirits that track down the enemies near where it is placed, and damage them.
Spirit of Djinn – The Djinn magic from Uncharted 3 imbues the player with the ability to teleport short distances, but they won’t be able to take cover.
Cintamani Stone – Activating this mystical from Uncharted 2 revives Downed allies within its area of effect to full health instantly.
Staff of Ayar Manco – This staff, from the Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth novel, casts a magical force across an entire map revealing where the opposing team is located. It will also show up on the mini-map and can be destroyed.
Indra’s Eternity – From the Uncharted: Eye of Indra motion comic, this Mystical slows down any enemy that enters its visible area of effect.
If you played the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta, what did you think of it? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a candidate for Most Anticipated Game of 2016 in our Reader’s Awards (http://wccftech.com/wccftech-presents-readers-awards-2015/).

Uncharted 4 CG Trailer From SW Force Awakens Opening Weekend

Just like Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last of US’, Uncharted 4 is going to feature more intimate moments. Naughty Dog Announces Another Uncharted 4 Delay, Release Now Pinned For Late April

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-surprised_1434429077-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-surprised_1434429077.jpg)
Naughty Dog just announced another Uncharted 4 delay on the official PlayStation Blog. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/12/23/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-arrives-on-april-26-2016/) This is a small one, though, as it moves the release date from March 18, 2016 to April 26(North America)/27(Europe)/29(United Kingdom).
Here’s what Creative Director Neil Druckmann and Game Director Bruce Straley wrote to explain this new Uncharted 4 delay.

Let’s start with the good news: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is wrapping up production and is shaping up to be the proper send off for Nathan Drake that we’ve promised you. The bad news is that we need a bit more time to finish the game so that it meets our standards and vision. Let’s cut to the chase, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has a new release date in North America of April 26, 2016.
This is our largest Uncharted game to date, and the team has been working incredibly hard to meet the challenge of closing out the game’s development in a timely manner. However, as we approached our final deadlines and started wrapping up the game’s levels, we realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring them to the finish line. After carefully considering all of our options, we decided to extend our schedule, making sure that we get a few more polish passes before submitting our gold master (the final disc for manufacturing).
Pushing the date is not an easy choice, and we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t feel in our hearts it’s the best course of action for the game. To you, our loyal fans, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology. We know many of you have been waiting patiently for Nathan Drake’s final chapter, and now we humbly ask you to wait a bit longer.
On April 26, 2016 the most ambitious installment in the Uncharted series will be in your hands.
Advertisements

All in all, this is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. A little more polish can’t hurt, though at this point the hype for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is simply tremendous.
On the other hand, the latest Uncharted 4 delay might hurt another PlayStation 4 exclusive, Ratchet & Clank. The game has been pinned for April 12, 2016 for a while and now it will have to contend with Naughty Dog’s blockbuster hit, due only two weeks later.
From this point of view, it would have been certainly better if Uncharted 4 could release in March. Let’s just hope this doesn’t translate in a Ratchet & Clank delay aimed at giving it more space…

Uncharted 4 Steelbook Edition Revealed By Amazon Germany

Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End is one of the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusive titles releasing in the first few months of 2016. Sony and Naughty Dog know this all too well and they are trying to capitalize on this with two different special editions including a variety of extra goodies. These two Uncharted 4 Special Editions aren’t enough, apparently, as a third one has been revealed earlier today by Amazon Germany.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Uncharted-4-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Uncharted-4.jpg)
The popular online retailer has revealed the Uncharted 4 Steelbook Edition (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B014V2MRDA) a few hours ago. This special edition of the Naughty Dog developed game isn’t going to be as rich as the Special and Libertalia editions, as it will only include a copy of the game and a special steelbook that’s different from the one offered with the other Uncharted 4 special editions.

Last week it’s been a bad one for Uncharted fans eagerly anticipating Uncharted 4. On a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Creative Director Neil Druckmann and Game Director Bruce Straley revealed that the team requires a bit more time to finish the game so that it meets their standards and vision and the game will now launch during April (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-delayed-to-april-262729/) and not during March as previously confirmed. While it’s disappointing that we will have to wait one more month to play the game, it’s good to know that the team is doing everything it can to release the best possible game.

Uncharted 4 will release on April 26th in North America, April 27th in Europe and April 29th in the United Kingdom. The game was originally scheduled for a March 18th release.

Naughty Dog Didn’t Want To Become A Caricature Of Themselves With Uncharted 4’s Set Pieces, Game To Feature More Intimate Ones

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the more anticipated games of the year and Naughty Dog has been talking more about the game in the past few weeks to get fans even more excited for the game’s impending release. What we have seen so far suggests that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be bigger and better than its predecessors, but it seems like not everything about the game will be bigger than in previous entries.

In a new interview with the British newspaper The Sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/6848362/Is-Nathan-Drake-being-killed-off-in-Uncharted-4-Neil-Druckmann-drops-his-strongest-hint-yet.html), Naughty Dog’s Creative Director Neil Druckmann has revealed some interesting new details on the Uncharted 4’s set pieces. According to Mr. Druckmann, the team followed the trajectory of setpieces becoming bigger and more badass. With Uncharted 4, however, the team didn’t want to become a caricature of themselves, opting to better tie set pieces with the story, making them come in at the right time. Mr. Druckmann also added that the team learned from The Last of Us that not all set pieces have to be big and explosive and that smaller and more intimate pieces allowed the team to introduce different pacing and make things generally more interesting.

“The first three had this trajectory of going bigger and more badass – we didn’t want to continue that trajectory, we didn’t want to become a caricature of ourselves,” he admits. “So we said, ok, set pieces are important, but how do you better tie set pieces with story so they come in at the right time to mirror some kind of personal conflict in the story?

“But also something we learned from the Last of Us is not all set pieces have to be big and explosive. Some of them can be small and intimate – and that lets us get much more interesting and introduce different pacing than in the previous Uncharted games”
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be released exclusively on PlayStation 4 on April 26th in North Americal, April 27th in Europe and April 29th in the United Kingdom.

Naughty Dog Talks About Drake’s Struggle Between Family & Passion

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Uncharted-4-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Uncharted-4.jpg)
Despite the small delay from March to April, Nathan Drake is still about to come back for his last adventure in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, one of this year’s most anticipated titles (the most anticipated for our staff (http://wccftech.com/wccftechs-game-awards-2015/), actually).
Eurogamer had the chance to speak with Game Director Neil Druckmann and just posted a lengthy interview (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-01-20-naughty-dogs-neil-druckmann-on-why-uncharted-has-to-end), which delves into several aspects of the upcoming game. We’ve highlighted one particularly interesting tidbit about Nathan Drake’s ongoing struggle to balance his friends and family with his adventuring passion.

The heart of this is Nathan Drake’s – and maybe an artists’ – struggle: how do you balance your relationship with your family and friends, and your passion, the thing you’re willing to dedicate your life to and make big sacrifices for? If you look at Nathan Drake, he has dealt with obsession his entire life. Whether it’s El Dorado in Uncharted or Shangri-La in Uncharted 2 or Iram of the Pillars in Uncharted 3, those have been major obsessions for him and we’ve seen it hurt his relationship. We’ve seen how between each game his relationship with Elena falls apart.
There’s something that happens there in that gap that was really interesting for us. That’s what we want to get into. Because maybe you can’t have both. Maybe you can’t have your family and that passion and the obsession.
Advertisements

When we start this story, Uncharted 4, with the scene we showed [at PSX] today, you see Nathan Drake is living what’s for him a very mundane life. Maybe he’s not doing what he’s meant to do. And it might not take much for his brother just to lure him back in.
And then every level, every character interaction, it’s like, are we always coming back to that? Everything has to get filtered through – is this building on that theme? Are we presenting different arguments of how you handle this kind of conflict in your life.
This is a very enticing topic to explore, especially since most of us can relate to similar challenges in our everyday’s life. After all, it is quite common for passions and affections to be in conflict with one another.
After playing The Last of Us, I am quite hopeful that they’ll get this right. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will launch on April 26/27/29 (NA/EU/UK) exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Uncharted 4 Still Has Some Bugs To Fix Before Shipment

The release date for Uncharted 4 is closing in, but Naughty Dog’s latest Uncharted installment still has some bugs that need to be addressed before shipment.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4.jpg)
Drake’s last adventure is slated for a PS4 release on April 26 in the US. European players will be able to Play Uncharted 4 a day later, while PS4 owners in the UK will have to wait until April 29. Since its announcement back in 2013, the game has been delayed multiple times. Naughty Dog is using the extra time to further “polish” the title. On the official PS Blog, Naughty Dog explained (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/12/23/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end-arrives-on-april-26-2016/) the decision to delay the game once again.

Fixing loading, animation, system jobs in Uncharted 4 just in time With 3 months left before release, Naughty Dog is working around the clock to deliver an amazing final chapter to the Uncharted series, and according the game’s lead programmer, Christian Gyrling, there aren’t many weeks left before the title gets shipped. Usually a game is made ready for shipment within 2 to 4 weeks of actual release, so would leave Naughty Dog with a little bit more than 2 months to finish the game.

Naughty Dog’s lead programmer adds that he recently found one of those “how did this ever work” bugs, just in time. Apparently this wasn’t the only bug plagued Drake, as Gyrling just Tweeted that he found some more bugs – ranging from job system bugs, to loading and animation bugs.

We’re pretty sure that Naughty Dog will fix any bugs that they encounter, and that they’ll deliver an outstanding final chapter to Uncharted, and Nathan Drake.

Sony just announced the special 500GB PlayStation 4 bundle for Uncharted 4 that'll be available this April. The limited edition console will have the visage of Nathan Drake silk-screened onto the console with a golden logo on the bottom to commemorate the release of possible the final chapter in his adventure.

The limited edition bundle will also include a matching DualShock 4 controller and an actual physical Blu-ray copy of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. The phrase "SIC PARVIS MAGNA", which means "greatness from small beginnings," in Latin. will also be silkscreened on the other side.

Uncharted 4 story trailer released, Drake is in serious trouble here (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50651/uncharted-4-story-trailer-released-drake-serious-trouble-here/index.html)

The actual underlying story for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has finally been revealed in a new trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU8CQbzkpwc) released by Sony. Retirement didn't quite work out so well for Nathan Drake it seems.

<iframe width="781" height="469" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oU8CQbzkpwc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you're good at your job, then you might not be able to retire at all, and in Drake's case, you could be called to action again by the very nature of your expertise. Treasure, especially the kind of haul that seems to be at stake here, is a dangerous motivator. And Drake was born for this, so why wouldn't he want to get involved?

The blurb below the video reads: "Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter Nathan Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he's willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves."

It all seems pretty exciting, but it also somewhat mirrors the story of a somewhat unsuccessful Indiana Jones movie, where Indie comes back from retirement to recover a rare treasure, uncovering a conspiracy at the same time. It remains to be seen if the action, and spirit of Drake has been captured properly. In the game there's a lot at stake for Nathan Drake, but for Sony, there's a lot at stake for Uncharted 4.

Uncharted 4 Story Revealed in New Trailer

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/uncharted4_mp-635x381.jpg
Uncharted 4 is painfully close. It’s only about two months until it hits store shelves, which in terms of game development is about as long as – well, let’s just say we could insert a rather topical joke about Hitler right here.
Unfortunately for us, it feels much, much longer, and that’s partly because this is the moment when marketing gets put into overdrive. Barely a day will go by without some mention of A Thief’s End.
The hype, or at least this latest wave of hype, begins now, with the release of a brand new story trailer.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zRl3Gcn9kWg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The two and a bit minute video finally reveals what we can expect from the plot of Uncharted 4, and while there’s still plenty to learn, it’s the biggest info dump for quite some time.
Of course, that’s not the only advantage to this latest look. We also get a glimpse at some absolutely gorgeous visuals.
We’ve seen most of these characters before, but it’s nice to be able to see them in new environments, and for longer. Naughty Dog have definitely pushed themselves, and the landscapes are stunning too.
Uncharted 4 will be available to buy on April 26th in America, and April 29th in Europe.

Naughty Dog Apologizes For Stealing Assassin's Creed Artwork (http://www.hardocp.com/news/2016/02/24/naughty_dog_apologizes_for_stealing_assassins_cree d_artwork/)

If you are going to steal art assets from another game for your new trailer, you should probably make sure the pilfered artwork isn't from an Assassin's Creed game (http://www.naughtydog.com/site/post/an_update_on_the_uncharted_4_a_thiefs_end_story_tr ailer/). No big deal, someone is probably fired and Naughty Dog has apologized already.

In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the art work used for an in game painting. We’ve already updated the trailer. We hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen. We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.

Uncharted 4 Story Changed "100 Percent" After New Directors Came On"We want it to be a mind-blowing, eye-popping, sweaty-palms adventure."

The story for action-adventure game Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (http://www.gamespot.com/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end)changed "100 percent" when Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley came aboard the project, Druckmann revealed in a new AP (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/02/24/business/ap-us-games-uncharted-4.html?partner=IFTTT&_r=0)interview.

<iframe src="http://www.gamespot.com/videos/embed/6429662/" width="640" height="400" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>

The game was originally in development under the direction of Amy Hennig (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-ps4-writer-leaves-naughty-dog/1100-6418113) and Justin Richmond (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-director-leaves-naughty-dog-for-riot/1100-6418600), but they left the studio in early 2014. Though it was not confirmed, reports indicated Hennig was allegedly "forced out" (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/naughty-dog-presidents-reject-claims-uncharted-ps4-director-amy-hennig-was-forced-out/1100-6418160) by Druckmann and Straley, a point that the studio has denied (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/naughty-dog-presidents-reject-claims-uncharted-ps4-director-amy-hennig-was-forced-out/1100-6418160).
Druckmann and Straley, who worked on the first Uncharted (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/uncharted-drakes-fortune-review/1900-6183147) and its sequel (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/uncharted-2-among-thieves-review/1900-6231311)before moving on to The Last of Us (http://www.gamespot.com/the-last-of-us), were named co-directors of Uncharted 4 in June 2014, according to Game Informer. (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/06/02/a-candid-interview-with-evan-wells-and-christophe-balestra-on-the-state-of-naughty-dog-uncharted-and-the-last-of-us.aspx)
No information was provided as to the specific changes Druckmann and Straley made to the Uncharted 4's story. However, Nathan Drake actor Nolan North shared some insight in an interview last year (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-development-set-back-eight-months-by-a/1100-6428494), saying a lot of work was thrown out after Hennig left Naughty Dog.
The development team "shot eight months of her story and it was all thrown away," he said. "Amy is still a very dear friend of mine and she's brilliant. But the Last of Us guys were the next team there, so they took over and they just wanted their own flavor. They got rid of some of the other people that were involved and just redid their thing."
North said Uncharted 4's overall tone is going to be "slightly different" than Hennig's vision.
"It has to be, you know," he said. "You can't have a Robert Ludlum novel that's going to be the same as Stephen King. It's just that they're different styles. But it's true to the story."
In the AP interview, Straley said Uncharted 4 is the "biggest, most ambitious" game Naughty Dog has ever made.
"We want to do this justice," he said. "We want it to be a mind-blowing, eye-popping, sweaty-palms adventure. Everybody is bleeding out of their eye sockets to make it come together. We want to make sure Drake is sent off properly."
Uncharted 4 is the final entry in the Uncharted series that Naughty Dog plans to develop (but not necessarily the final game in the series) and the last game to star Nathan Drake.
"It's time," Druckmann said. "Sometimes, a character just lets you know it's time to move on. For me, that was part of the intrigue of coming back to this world. You never see something successful in the industry end. It usually just fizzles out."
After multiple delays, Uncharted 4 launches exclusively for PS4 at the end of April (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-delayed-into-april-2016/1100-6433338).
Just this week, a thrilling new story trailer (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/watch-thrilling-new-uncharted-4-story-trailer/1100-6435054)was released. It was great, but it had a problem, too--it used concept art from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-trailer-uses-assassins-creed-4-art-son/1100-6435062). Naughty Dog has since apologized for the "regrettable mistake" (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-trailer-uses-assassins-creed-4-art-son/1100-6435062)and released a new version of the video with the art in question removed.

This Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Open Weekend has only surfaced on the European PlayStation Store as of now, but it’s quite likely that it will be held in North America as well. We’ll let you know more as soon as an official announcement comes in on the matter.
Before this Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Open Weekend, fans of the series developed by Naughty Dog have had the chance to try out the game’s multiplayer mode in the beta which has been held back in December. This older multiplayer beta, which could only be accessed by those who pruchased Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, allowed players to play Team Deathmatch on two different maps. Considering that some time has passed since this beta, it will be interesting to see how the team has tweaked the experience for the Multiplayer Open Weekend.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will launch this April on PlayStation 4 in all regions.

Uncharted 4 Delayed Again, Arriving In May

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-c0496b26_945_556.jpg (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-c0496b26_945_556.jpg)
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has encountered yet another delay, pushing the game’s anticipated release into May 2016. The game was previously delayed to March and then to April. A post from SCEA CEO Shawn Layden explained the delay lets the Uncharted team receive “extra manufacturing time.”
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-4cca876a_339_191.jpg (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-4cca876a_339_191.jpg) http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-23f067de_339_191.jpg (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/26728-23f067de_339_191.jpg)

In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.
As long as there isn’t another delay, the game will be coming out on May 10, 2016.

Uncharted 4 Goes Gold

Naughty Dog have announced that their next action adventure title Uncharted 4 has gone gold.

Any work from this point on will go into the inevitable day one patch, rather than onto the disk.

And although that means the game is now officially finished for all intents and purposes, it absolutely doesn’t mean Naughty Dog’s work is done. They’ll be polishing, fixing bugs and, dare we say it, perhaps even starting to plan DLC. Yeah, probably not.
Of course, this is the kind of news that gets decent reaction, not just from fans of the franchise but from other developers too. It’s hard to beat the offering from the official PlayStation account, which mimics how many of us probably feel.

Uncharted 4 Actors Had Their Facial Expressions Recorded; Environments Have 100s of Destructible Objects

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-surprised_1434429077-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uncharted-4_drake-surprised_1434429077.jpg)
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End recently reached the GOLD status (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-gold/), ending any debate on further delays from the current and final May 10 release date.
Naughty Dog’s first PlayStation 4 game (unless you count The Last of Us Remastered, of course) is certainly late to the party, launching about two years and half after the launch of Sony’s latest console. However, because of this the anticipation is perhaps even bigger and Sony is fostering it with a series of Making Of videos, among many other things.
Today’s episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uKia6kb1fk) lets us take a look at how Naughty Dog pushed technical boundaries with Uncharted 4. The eight minutes long footage is well worth a look, but we’ve highlighted two particularly interesting details.
The first one is that, for the first time in the series, the actors didn’t just provide motion capture with their body movements but they also got their facial expressions recorded. According to Nolan North, who plays Nathan Drake as usual, this will be quite the big change.

The biggest change we’ve had in Uncharted 4 would be the use of the head cameras and the facial markings for animations. For the first three games, this has always been hand animated.
Lead Cinematic Animator Eric Baldwin added:
Advertisements

Now we’re in a unique situation in that we’re now capturing those actors’ faces, and we’re getting all the great detail that that brings in and then we inject the look and feel that we’ve come to expect from the characters that we know.
The PlayStation 4 will also allow environments to be much more interactive than in past Uncharted games. Lead Programmer Christian Gyrling said:

Just the quantity of interactive things in the environment. I mean, we really want our jungles and our environments to feel alive, and being able to have hundreds upon hundreds of objects that can be destroyed and moved around…
Lead Programmer Sandeep Shekar finished the thought:

…it impacts gameplay in that, you know, your cover can be destroyed and you have to move around more. But even outside of that, just seeing all the stuff happening, the screen is so much more alive, the world is so much more alive.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will probably be the most technically advanced game on PlayStation 4 upon release. Let’s hope it also proves to be one of the best.

Uncharted 4 New Trailer Running Before Batman VS Superman Detailed, New Gameplay Ad Surfaces Online

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the latest entry of the series developed by Naughty Dogs, is getting closer to release, especially now that the game has gone gold, so it’s not surprising to see Sony and Naughty Dog to promote the game as much as they can. A couple of recent reports have revealed that a new trailer is being shown before the highly anticipated movie Batman VS Superman.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Uncharted-4-635x357.jpg
According to NeoGAF user william_557 (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=199116458#post199116458), the new Uncharted 4 trailer has been shown in Australia at a midnight screening of Batman VS Superman. The trailer is made up of several different scenes, some of them already shown in previously released trailers.

I went to the midnight screening of batman vs superman in Aus and flipped out when i saw it
(Ill be going to the movies on monday hopefully it shows up again which ill film on my phone if thats the case)
Pretty sure it was cgi (not the one of him diving for his brothers hand) hes sitting in a burning buildig can’t remember what he says and he flicks a coin towards the screen then there are quick cuts and hes hanging of a car on that waterfall
Another user called jett (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=199156100#post199156100) has reported he watched the new Uncharted trailer before Batman VS Superman. According to jett, however, the trailer didn’t feature any CGI.

I saw a trailer for this game at the movie theater when I went to watch Batman Bin Suparman. First time I see a video game ad at the movies in my country.
It wasn’t CGI, it was a bunch of scenes from the game, mostly cut-scenes from the latest trailer. I think I remember seeing a coin flip.
On a related note, some new small glimpses of Uncharted 4 gameplay have surfaced online in a new video ad. Reddit user Askiles (https://www.reddit.com/r/uncharted/comments/4bvcbe/so_i_was_scrolling_ign_and_caught_a_page_ad_with/) has managed to capture a screenshot of the ad, which you can find below.

Uncharted 4 to Include Stealth Features Borrowed from The Last of Us

http://i0.wp.com/www.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Uncharted_4_Reveal_Wallpaper.jpg?resize=800%2C450
Those of you who played and maybe finished The Last of Us should be very glad to hear that Naughty Dog’s upcoming Uncharted 4 title will actually borrow certain stealth features from The Last of Us. Obviously, nobody wants to play an action game in which the enemies are ridiculously easy to take down, which is why the developers have implemented smarter AI-controlled enemies in Uncharted 4, all in the effort of giving gamers a proper challenge. This “smart” factor relies on a series of stealth elements originally seen in The Last of Us, elements that definitely add a touch of realism. Actually, it looks like Uncharted 4 will feature the most reactive and precise AI seen in a video game so far, which sounds very promising.
Apparently (http://www.examiner.com/article/uncharted-4-to-feature-stealth-aspects-from-the-last-of-us), the developers don’t want players to just sit around and wait for the action to come to them, which is why some of the game’s mechanics and AI behaviours will force them to innovate their playing style as they progress. Uncharted 4 Lead Animator Jeremy Yates has stated the following:

“We didn’t want a game where you sit behind one piece of cove and sit there with the ‘stop and pop,’ you’re shooting. We really want you to move through the environment, to outsmart them, to flank them, for them to be able to chase you around and just have that constant motion.”
Overall, Uncharted 4 (http://www.eteknix.com/uncharted-4-thiefs-end-release-delayed/) is shaping up as a very promising title, and I definitely can’t wait to see what it has to offer on May 10 when it is scheduled for an official launch on PlayStation 4 consoles.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Gets Beautiful Leaked Screenshots

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is finally about a month away from its release, after numerous delays. As usual before major releases, Sony Computer Entertainment allowed the press to go hands-on with the game and the embargo expires tomorrow.
However, Italian website Spaziogames.it broke the embargo by publishing their hands-on preview a couple of hours ago. The article has been taken down now, but not before the screenshots have leaked on the Web; obviously, we’ve gathered them in the gallery below.

If the images above are any indication, it appears that the folks at Naughty Dog once again mastered the hardware at their disposal. It’s likely that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be the best looking game on PlayStation 4, between its technical prowess and the stunning artwork.
The game will be the final adventure of beloved protagonist Nathan Drake (once again voiced by Nolan North), who unexpectedly finds out that his brother Sam (voiced by Troy Baker) is actually alive. Sam asks a retired Nathan for help and the two embark once again on a globe-trotting journey in search of a fabled treasure.
We’ll be covering anything relevant on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, one of the biggest releases due in 2016, as the game approaches its May 10 release. Stay tuned.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the new entry of the series developed by Naughty Dog, is now very close to release, and the team has been showing more of the game in recent times. Earlier today, a new Uncharted 4 gameplay preview video has surfaced online, showing more of the action that fans of the series will be able to experience in around one month.

The video includes some spoilers for this area, so avoid watching it if you want Uncharted 4 to be a complete surprise when it launches in May. If you cannot resist the temptation, you can check out the video right below.

Today’s Uncharted 4 gameplay preview video follows a leaked new batch of screenshots (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-thiefs-beautiful-leaked-screenshots/) which has been shared yesterday by mistake. Needless to say, Uncharted 4 looks great in the new screenshots, confirming how Naughty Dog are truly some of the best developers around.
Late last month, another short Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End trailer (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-trailer-running-batman-superman-detailed-gameplay-ad-surfaces-online/) has been shared online. The trailer, which was originally shown before the Batman VS Superman movie, is a rather short trailer featuring some dramatic sequences that make it easy for fans of the series to get even more excited for the game.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been delayed a couple times. The last delay has been confirmed last month (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-delayed-to-may-2016-to-meet-demand/), with the game having been delayed to May to meet the considerable worldwide demand and to ensure that all games have the opportunity to get the game on launch day.

Uncharted 4 Is the Series’ Longest Game & the Most Varied in Terms of Locations, Says Druckmann

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/uncharted4preview_5-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/uncharted4preview_5.jpg)
The press embargo for Uncharted 4 previews is up, though we had already brought you (http://wccftech.com/uncharted-4-thiefs-beautiful-leaked-screenshots/) some stunning leaked screenshots yesterday.
In particular, a lengthy interview posted by Gamespo (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-interview-naughty-dog-on-crafting-a-le/1100-6437139/)t contains interesting tidbits of information regarding the game. Creative Director Neil Druckmann (who worked in the same position on The Last of Us) explained that Naughty Dog had the option to either cut a gameplay sequence or delay the game, which is what finally happened. He also mentioned that Uncharted 4 will be the longest game in the series and also the most varied in terms of locations.

When we realised we weren’t going to hit 2015, it was sequences that were just coming online. There’s an option on the table to cut that sequence out and see if you can stitch the game together without it, but you risk hurting pacing and story when you do that. Everything we put in there we felt was necessary to tell the story. It’s very ambitious, it’s the longest Uncharted in the series, and the most varied as far as locations.
I don’t know if it’d be any different with another game, but this being the last one, we don’t want feel like there was a missed opportunity here. We want to know we went out on top with a bang and do everything we intended to do, realise our vision. Like it or not, who knows, but for us, this is the game we wanted to make.
Advertisements

Sony Computer Entertainment also released a brand new 18 minute long gameplay video preview; you can check it out below. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release on May 10 exclusively for PlayStation 4.

See Nathan, Sam, and Sully explore the plains of Madagascar in this gameplay video.
Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter Nathan Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

Doughnut Drake Dropped from Uncharted 4

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/unchar13-635x357.jpg
Doughnut Drake, the fat version of Nathan Drake that has been an unlockable bonus since the very first Uncharted game, will not be making an appearance in the next title.
The bonus has been around since the franchise began, but, despite being modelled and ready to go in the first original PlayStation title, the character skin was removed because the developers felt they’ve moved beyond it.
GamesRadar (http://www.gamesradar.com/therell-be-no-donut-drake-uncharted-4/)reported that Neil Druckmann felt he no longer wanted to laugh at someone else’s expense, adding that he thought the company had matured beyond that stage.
He said:

“We actually had the whole thing modelled and in there.
“We had a big debate about it and kind of approached it from all kinds of angles and decided we weren’t comfortable having it in our game.”
The decision has led people to wonder if the skin could be added in as DLC at a later date, so that only those that want it have to deal with it. Of course, that sort of thing will be revealed at a much later date.
If the studio has decided this sort of thing is on the way out, it’ll be interesting to see what bonuses still remain when the game is released over the next month or so.
