Parece que depois do Remaster da colecção do Halo, vamos ter o remarster da colecção do Gears of War na Xbox One.

#TheMarcusFenixCollection moves into the spotlight (http://playbackgaming.com/2014/10/16/breaking-news-themarcusfenixcollection-moves-into-the-spotlight/)

Only moments ago, Phil Spencer jumped on Twitter and provided the Gears community with a very exciting retweet.
As we know, Phil Spencer (https://twitter.com/XboxP3) doesn’t just retweet and old tweet, especially if it’s one regarding a subject that has been kept very hush hush. No news has been coming out of camp Black Tusk about the upcoming Gears of War instalment and no one seems willing to even discuss the possibility of #TheMarcusFenixCollection.
With one little press of a button Phil Spencer has not only acknowledged the movement again, but he has also given the Gears community a massive amount of hope that this means something is already in the works.
https://playbackgaming.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/phil.png?w=300&h=80 (https://playbackgaming.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/phil.png)
Are we on the verge of getting an announcement?
Is this Phil’s way of telling us not to fear that he knows what we want and he is working on it?
Only time will tell, but for the moment we are extremely optimistic that this is a strong sign that we are finally about to get our Xbox prayers answered.
Stay tuned as I will be sure to continue updating you on any further progress.

Is Gears of War Getting an HD Remaster? It’s Not Improbable

There talk going around that point towards the possibility of an HD remaster for the original Gears of War. Polygon reports (http://www.polygon.com/2015/4/24/8490745/gears-of-war-xbox-one-anniversary-remake) that one of their sources has information regarding that impending Gears of War remaster.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Gears-of-War-gears-of-war-23640260-1280-720-635x357.jpg (http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Gears-of-War-gears-of-war-23640260-1280-720.jpg)
Though not confirmed, an original Gears of War HD remaster might just be in the works. Supposedly the original Gears of War that was released in 2006 by Epic might be getting a complete remaster, with improved visuals and enhanced cut scenes much in the same way that Halo 2 received.
Black Tusk Studios, the developer that is currently working on the next Gears of War, hasn’t confirmed any such plans for a remaster and has even gone far enough to deny such claims last month, but the source from Polygon seems to be very adamant about the potential for a remaster. In fact, Phil Spencer mentioned something about a Marcus Fenix Collection last year, though that was supposedly simply not true.

This year during E3 Microsoft, and it’s studio Black Tusk Studios, do plan on showcasing some fantastic games this year, and it could be that they simply want to keep the information under wraps until the official reveal. Anything is technically possible, though we won’t know for sure until E3 in June or another slip of the tongue on Twitter.
I think it would be great business sense to offer a remastered version of one of their most successful franchises. It just makes business sense. As we move on to the next generation of consoles, some still may want to play the iconic game. The Master Chief Collection has shown us that HD remasters can work if done correctly.
This, of course, isn’t confirmed by any means but the possibility is always there.

Gears of War remaster in development for the Xbox One by Splash Damage

With the original Gears of War coming out nearly 10 years ago now, news of a remaster for the Xbox One shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Especially since Microsoft acquired the Gears of War IP from Epic Games (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/35092/microsoft-now-owns-the-gears-of-war-franchise-new-game-is-on-the-way/index.html) not too long ago, but now Splash Damage is reportedly behind the remaster of Gears of War for the Xbox One.

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/4/44764_10_gears-war-remaster-development-xbox-one-splash-damage.jpg

With news of a new Gears of War game coming soon teasing gamers (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43971/microsoft-boss-teases-gears-war-news-coming-shortly/index.html), a remaster of what started it all makes sense. Back in March, Black Tusk studio boss Rod Fergusson told Polygon last month: "I love the passion, but there's no Marcus Fenix Collection. We ARE working on other exciting Gears projects. I'll see you at E3!".

Polygon is reporting that the Gears of War remaster will feature 60FPS multiplayer, which I'm sure will be in the singleplayer side of the game too. Here's hoping for a full 1080p 60FPS, considering how much faster the Xbox One is than the Xbox 360.

Microsoft bricks consoles belonging to Gears of War leakers (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/205722-microsoft-bricks-consoles-belonging-to-gears-of-war-leakers)

The extreme backlash following Microsoft’s Xbox One (http://www.extremetech.com/tag/xbox-one) announcement in 2013 prompted the company toremove some of the more draconian DRM and security features (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/181683-microsofts-backwards-policies-are-hurting-the-xbox-one), but if you thought Microsoft had no control over your console, think again. A few Xbox One owners are finding out the hard way what Microsoft is capable of if you upset the wrong people. After leaking images from the upcoming Gears of War remake for the Xbone, Microsoft (http://www.extremetech.com/tag/microsoft) has reportedly bricked their consoles. The recipients of this punishment are contractors for a company called VMC Games, and one of the projects VMC is handling is testing for the new Gears title. Contractors who are tasked with putting the game through its paces are required to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA), but that didn’t stop several testers from leaking videos and screenshots of the game. VMC and Microsoft apparently tracked down two of the culprits, and an example has to be made — they’re getting the Xbox One death penalty.
According to an email sent to VMC community members, one tester sent a screenshot of the new Gears to another VMC contractor. This second fellow then leaked it online. On VMC’s side, the contractors violated the NDA in a pretty explicit way. They’ve been removed from their projects and the company’s legal department is looking things over. This is really what you have to expect when breaking an NDA, but the pair also violated the Xbox Live EULA. That’s why their personal consoles and accounts are on the chopping block.
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zV9vmfQWDA8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe>
Microsoft has permanently banned their Xbox One accounts, as well as any other accounts on their consoles. This is something Microsoft has been doing for years, so surprises there. However, the company has also blocked all of their Xbox One privileges (http://kotaku.com/microsoft-punishes-gears-leakers-by-making-their-xbox-o-1704531500), meaning their consoles are completely unusable (according to VMC). This is a “temporary” measure that will only last until such time as Microsoft decides to turn their consoles back on. That could mean a week, a month, or (technically) never.
Microsoft claims (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/05/microsoft-pushes-back-on-reports-of-xbox-bricking-punishment/), however, that revoking privileges only disables all the online services and features. So if you go to the store and buy a game disk, you could probably play it. However, many games have zero-day patches that you probably wouldn’t be able to install on the blocked console. This is similar to actions Microsoft took way back in the day of mod chips that could be used to bypass game DRM. The company could ban an account, but also block the device itself from accessing Live services (because the hardware was modified, obviously).
These are only the guys who let a screenshot get out. If Microsoft finds the leakers of the above video, they’ll have to find something even more severe. VMC contractors aren’t provided with any company accounts or consoles to test games, so these are personal devices that were blocked. You can’t feel too sorry for these particular contractors, seeing as they violated an NDA and leaked confidential material. They’ll be lucky if a temporarily bricked console is the worst thing that happens. Still, it’s a little concerning that Microsoft has the ability to remotely deactivate an Xbox One in addition to your account.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is coming to the PC

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/games/gears-of-war-ultimate/xbox-one)isn't just for Xbox One owners anymore. The Coalition studio boss Rod Fergusson confirmed that the remastered version of the Xbox 360 classic will be available to PC gamers at the PC Gaming Show (http://www.pcgamingshow.com/) this evening.

http://techreport.com/r.x/2015_6_16_Gears_of_War_Ultimate_Edition_is_coming_ to_the_PC/gowue.jpg The PC version gets some goodies above and beyond those we'll see on the Xbox One, including 4K support, uncapped framerates, DirectX 12 features, and other visual enhancements. Fergusson didn't share an Ultiate Edition release date for the PC, and he was also mum on any potential PC version of the upcoming Gears of War 4. Still, the Ultimate Edition sounds like a great way to re-experience a classic title.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition Announced for PC, Supports DX12 and 4K; Gears 4 PC Teased for, Killer Instinct Incoming

During the PC Gaming Show Event at E3 2015, The Coalition Studio’s head Rod Ferguson, announced that Hears of War: Ultimate Edition will be making its way to PC. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on PC will feature support for 4K resolution, unlocked frame rate and DX12. It will also add mouse/keyboard controls on top of the controller support.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1Wx-cekqsWA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

There is a possibility that Gears 4 could also be coming to the PC Responding as to whether PC gamers can look forward to more Gears of War, he mentioned that there’s nothing to announce at this point, and that’s something that he’ll have to talk about at a later time. Ferguson’s response could be an indication that Gears of War 4 could also be headed to Windows 10 PCs in the future.

Killer Instinct coming to PC with cross-play support Phil Spencer was present at the PC Gaming event and revealed that Killer Instinct will also be coming to the PC, something which is certainly exciting news for fighting fans, and further proof of Microsoft’s renewed dedication to PC gaming.

“We’re going to bring Killer Instinct to the PC,”
“and we’re going to allow people to play on PC, to play on console, to play back and forth.”

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3VR-Ej-tCuo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Iron Galaxy head Dave Lang confirmed on Twitter that Killer Instinct will support cross-play between Windows and Xbox One, and owners of the Xbox One version will have all purchased DLC for the PC version as well.

This is certainly exciting news, as we see more and more Xbox titles coming over to the PC, and hopefully things will be even better in the future, when the Windows 10 platform is being implemented for both PCs and the Xbox One console. Cross-platform titles could become more common, creating a far better environment for both developers and gamers, allowing for an easier and quicker transition between the two platforms.
We will bring you any new information on Gears of War Ultimate Edition on PC, a potential Gears of War 4 PC release and Killer Instinct as soon as it becomes available.

The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson: “ Gears of War was a port but Ultimate Edition won’t be”

A couple of weeks back at the start of June, Rod Fergusson announced that his Vancouver-based team working on the Gears of War franchise will now be referred to as the Coalition. He announced it so as he felt that the new name spoke of what they were as a team, “a Coalition” of individuals coming together for a common purpose. He added (http://news.xbox.com/2015/06/games-introducing-the-coalition):

“When people hear 343 Industries, they associate it with Halo; when they hear Turn 10 Studios, they know that’s who makes Forza. Moving forward, when you hear The Coalition, we want you to think of Gears of War.”
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Gears-of-War-635x357.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Gears-of-War.jpg)
Gears of War is Getting 4K Resolution and it Looks Awesome While talking about PC Games during the E3 conference Fergusson revealed that the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War will be coming to the PC. And today he told Nvidia that this wasn’t just a straight port (Admitting side by side that the first one was a complete port) and they’re getting 4K resolution for the game as well. Fergusson told NVIDIA:

“In 2007 we released the PC version of Gears of War 1. And really it was a port. That’s not the case with the Ultimate Edition. It’s not a straight port. It’s actually taking all that power, using the power of the Xbox, getting 4K resolution which I’ve seen and looks amazing.”
This release of Gears of War will be an exclusive to Windows 10 and a DX12 only title supporting 4K resolutions. As a Windows 10 release, the game will also host mouse and keyboards support which many PC gamers look forward to. Finally, to top it off, the fact that The Coalition is working with NVIDIA “could” mean that the game will feature some NVIDIA Graphic Card exclusive features which NVIDIA will proudly be showcasing at a later date to market their Graphic Cards (this is just a guess).
We’ll keep you updated with the latest news. Until then, do share your views with us in the comments section!

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – PC Version is not a Port, Looks “Mindblowing” at 4K

Giuseppe Nelva (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOop6eu8pa7J4vVYDCIlZLA) has made available an awesome video showcasing a cinematic cutscene from the upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. It features some impressive direct feed, 1080p footage of the game, which can be viewed below:

The PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is not a port with all the content being “authored at a much higher rate”

Gears of War developer, The Coalition emphasized that the PC version is not a port. It’s enhanced greatly, and all the content is “authored at a much higher rate.” There are 4K textures all the way through the environment and for the PC they could just “turn off those clamps and unlock it fully, and the world just becomes super crisp.”
The team tested the game at 4K on a 70″ TV and it was “mindblowing.” According to Fergusson, at $39.99 it’s a great deal to go back and get ready for Gears of War 4.
You can view a Video Recap from the SDCC Panel for Gears of War Ultimate Edition below:

Gears of War Ultimate doesn’t have a PC release date (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/matthew-wilson/gears-of-war-ultimate-doesnt-have-a-pc-release-date/)

Microsoft is preparing to launch a remastered version of the first Gears of War game at the end of next month, putting the series back on the map ahead of Gears of War 4, which is due to launch some time towards the end of 2016. This game will also be the first in a while to make an appearance on the PC, although it won’t be arriving at the same time as Xbox.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was initially announced for the Xbox One at E3 and then later re-announced for PC. While the Xbox One version will be launching on the 25th of August, the PC version currently has no release date, something that Phil Spencer recently reiterated on Twitter. (https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/623717035172868096)
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2909244-ultimate-e1437580901733.jpg (http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2909244-ultimate-e1437580901733.jpg)
Responding to a fan asking if Gears of War Ultimate Edition would launch on the PC and Xbox One at the same time, Spencer said: “Gears on Win10 is later than Xbox One”. Unfortunately, we still don’t know how much later the PC version of the game will actually be.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a remaster of Epic Games’ 2006 shooter, featuring the five missions that were exclusive to the PC version of the original game. It is worth pointing out that Gamescom is just a few weeks away, so we may hear more then.

Maintaining 60fps on Xbox One was the Biggest Challenge – PC Gamers will Have to Wait for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition

Besides putting all its best efforts into the development of next major Gears of War (http://wccftech.com/e3-2015-gears-of-war-4-xbox-one-revealed-2016/) game for the eighth generation Xbox One console, The Coalition has been busy bathing (http://wccftech.com/e3-2015-1080p60fps-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-xbox/) Epic Games’ most critically acclaimed 2006 military science fiction third-person shooter video game in stunning next-gen visuals and graphical detail. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition allows players to relive the story of humankind’s epic battle for survival in full HD 1080p resolution with smooth 60fps, but according to the developer, it wasn’t easy to deliver all the good stuff at 60fps.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Gears-of-War-Ultimate-Edition-1-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Gears-of-War-Ultimate-Edition-1.jpg)
PC Version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Will Follow the Release of Xbox One Version – Maintaining the Visual Effects at 60fps on Xbox One Was the Biggest ChallengeGears of War: Ultimate Edition (http://wccftech.com/e3-2015-1080p60fps-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-xbox/), the remastered version of the first installment in Microsoft’s bestselling third-person shooter video game franchise, is one of the major triple A games coming to Xbox One as well as PC in the second half of 2015. Although The Coalition claims that remastering Gears of War was more of a learning experience for the studio, the upcoming game is the first title that we will see from the developer, and it will be counted as a proper release, so to make sure the game doesn’t leave any reasons for the fans to doubt the smooth development of Gears of War 4 (http://wccftech.com/e3-2015-gears-of-war-4-xbox-one-revealed-2016/), the developer has made sure it offers the best of original Gears of War experience.
Microsoft’s Xbox One is somewhat notorious for not easily handling next-gen games on full HD 1080p resolution with 60 frames per second, and so to inquire about the challenges that The Coalition faced during the development, GamingBolt (http://gamingbolt.com/the-biggest-challenge-for-gears-of-war-on-xbox-one-was-maintaining-60fps-the-coalition) talked with Peter, lead designer at the studio. According to him, there were normal ups and downs while remastering the game, but the biggest challenge that the team faced was to maintain smooth 60 frames per second without compromising the quality of all the in-game visual and lighting effects.

“It was fine but just like any other game project there are ups and downs,” said Peter. “Technically speaking, the biggest challenge was maintaining 60 frames per second. Maintaining all the visual effects and lighting effects [at 60fps], I mean it looks beautiful when running at 60 fps.”
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was expected to launch simultaneously on PC and Xbox One on August 25, but much to PC gamers’ grief, Microsoft has decided to delay the PC version of the game for, obviously, better reasons. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer first broke the news on Twitter (https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/623717035172868096) while replying to a fan who wanted to know about the release date of the PC version. “Gears on Win10 is later than Xbox One version,” he wrote. Later, a Microsoft spokesperson provided IGN (http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/22/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-on-pc-not-launching-day-and-date-with-xbox-one) with the following clarification statement:

“The Windows 10 version of ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’ will release at a later time, following the release of the Xbox One version on Aug. 25. The team decided to prioritize polish and performance over street date – to make sure we deliver a great experience for PC gamers. The DX12 version will support 4K resolution, unlimited refresh rates and controller and mouse and keyboard controls, so there was a bit more for us to test, optimize and perfect.”
For now, that’s all we know about the PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The Xbox One version of the game recently went gold, and is already available for pre-order and pre-download in the Xbox store. Players can choose from two different versions of the game; the Standard Edition that will set you back $39.99 and the Deluxe Edition that will retail for $59.99. You can check out details for both the packages here (http://news.xbox.com/2015/07/games-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-digital-pre-order).

In an interview with OXM, The Coalition’s studio head Rod Fergusson states:

“The fundamentals of Gears haven’t changed. All the metrics and mechanics are the same. What Epic created initially has endured over ten plus years. There’s a magic there in what they created, so it wasn’t a lot of work on our part to make it better. It was more about finding rough edges and filing them off. There were things Gears of War didn’t originally do because they didn’t have time or they didn’t have the resources.”
Fergusson went on to highlight how The Coalition’s team discovered what improvements needed to be made by inviting pro players to test the build.
Fergusson also explains that the studio brought in pro players to test the game and relied on their feedback to enhance the experience.

“About seven or eight months ago we brought in a bunch of pro players when the game was very early on, gave them a chance to test out what the game felt like at 60fps, and also give us much feedback. So yeah, we’ve been working really closely with them from the beginning to get a sense of what they want, and figure out how we take what they remember and improve it. So things like enemy marking, switching weapons, less sticky cover, being able to interrupt a SWAT turn… All small things, but they make a big difference when you’re playing competitively.”

'Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition' Will Include Entire Series

http://media.bestofmicro.com/9/9/516141/gallery/GearsCollection-HERO_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/GearsCollection-HERO,0101-516141-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)
Aside from brand new titles, the Xbox press conference (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-xbox-event-e3,29378.html) at E3 had a few things in store for the nostalgic crowd. The big wave came with the new Backwards Compatibility feature that allowed players to use their favorite Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One, including the popular Gears of War franchise. In addition, the first game in the series was getting its own remake called Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. However, Microsoft recently added a few more surprises to the remake.
Thanks to the Backwards Compatibility feature, buying Gears of War: Ultimate Edition between August 25 and December 31, 2015 will give you access to the rest of the games in the series. If you didn't have an Xbox 360 or didn't purchase the original games in their physical disc forms, the "new" title should have them as downloads.
However, Backwards Compatibility means that you don't really need Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, because the series was one of the most sought-out titles for Xbox One compatibility, and you can still use the original discs to play it in the coming months. (Hopefully, yours aren't scratched.)
If you do get the game, it's important to note that only the first Gears of War title is getting a remake. In addition to a graphical upgrade, it includes new maps, modes, a harder difficulty level and early access to the beta of Gears of War 4. The other titles are just the same Xbox 360 games that now work with the Xbox One.

Gears of War Original vs. Ultimate Edition Graphics Comparison Showcases Great Enhancements

Iconic Gears of War 'Mad World' trailer updated for Ultimate Edition version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwbYhvlrQbc

Back in 2006, the trailer for the original Gears of War became one of the most iconic and memorable pieces of video game marketing in the medium’s history, thanks in no small part to its use of Gary Jules’ cover of the 1982 Tears For Fears track 'Mad Word'. Now, video game developer The Coalition and publisher Microsoft have released a trailer for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/games/gears-of-war-ultimate/xbox-one) that pays tribute to the original, using the same music track and mixing CG footage from the first GOW with in-game footage of the upcoming remastered edition.
The two companies state, "Paying tribute to the original, the video opens with CG footage from the first Gears and then transitions into in-game footage from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which has been completely remastered in 1080p and modernized with 60fps multiplayer."
In addition to the increases in resolution and framerate, the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War will include updated controls tuned for the Xbox One, improved textures, better lighting, and a general graphical overhaul. Moreover, anyone who buys and plays the new game before the end of the year will get access to all previous Xbox 360 Gears of War (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a661519/buy-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-and-get-all-xbox-360-gears-of-war-games-free.html#%7EplDxpgsVsrCktR) titles through the upcoming backwards compatibility feature. The Ultimate Edition also brings 90 to 120 minutes of additional content that was only available on the game's PC release in 2007.
Gear of War: Ultimate Edition will be released for the Xbox One on August 25 in North America and three days later in Europe. It was recently revealed that the game will take up 44.42GB on the console and cross-platform play will be supported when it is released for the PC at a later date.

Don’t Worry About The PC Version Of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Says Director of Community

Gears of War Ultimate Edition, a remaster of the original release, debuted on Xbox One in late August (you can read Jeff’s thoughts in our detailed review (http://wccftech.com/review/gears-war-ultimate-edition/)).
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/gears_of_war_ultimate_edition_e3_2015-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/gears_of_war_ultimate_edition_e3_2015.jpg)
However, the game was also confirmed at E3 2015 to be headed to PC within the year, bringing DX12/4K support and unlocked frame rate (http://wccftech.com/gears-war-ultimate-unlocked-frame-rate-devs-explain-dx12-async-compute/) amongst other enhancements.
Despite this, we’re close to the end of the year and there is no news, which prompted some discussions among the fans on the official forums. Director of Community Adam Fletcher stepped in to post (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/forums/98be6d5e03f642a5b8b561883802d401/threads/pc-info---response-from-pezradar/8b7bfc7b-dc7d-414c-a886-6a2b3f2306f0/posts?page=2#post26)a little update, saying that there is no cause for concern.

Hey guys –
We do not have any news to share at this time for the PC version. I know some are worried but please don’t fret. We are wanting to make sure polish and performance are prioritized on the PC version so that you all have a great experience.
Once we have additional information, I can tell say you will be the first to know. I’m pretty stoked for the PC version myself as I am an avid PC gamer http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/simple-smile.png
It’s always nice when developers make sure that their games are properly polished and optimized for PC, however this shouldn’t be an issue for Gears of War Ultimate Edition since the game is pretty old at this point, even with the new makeup that comes with the remastered version.
At this point, a release in early 2016 seems very likely. How eager are you to play Gears of War Ultimate on PC? Let us know in the comments!

Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC Version Coming Out In Early 2016

A month ago, we reported (http://wccftech.com/dont-worry-about-the-pc-version-of-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-says-director-of-community/) the words of The Coalition’s Director of Community Adam Fletcher, who urged fans not to worry about Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC.

According to Fletcher, the team had been working on polish and performance specifically for this version. The game was originally expected to hit the platform before the end of the year, but at this point it’s clear that fans will have to wait 2016.
Still, Xbox Head Phil Spencer mentioned yesterday that it should be released “not too far into 2016”.

Considering that Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC was announced alongside Killer Instinct, which will be debuting on PC in March (coinciding with the start of Season 3), there’s hope that it will launch within Q1 2016.
When it comes out it should be worth it, though. As reported (http://wccftech.com/gears-war-ultimate-unlocked-frame-rate-devs-explain-dx12-async-compute/) three months ago from an interview with Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-the-making-of-gears-of-war-ultimate-edition), the developer is making the game a proper showcase: Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC will support 4K, unlocked frame rate, DX12 and async compute.

We have put significant effort into making the Windows 10 version a showcase at 4K, geo and textures were re-authored with 4K in mind so the visual fidelity will really scale up on higher end hardware. We plan to uncap the frame-rate and will ship with a built-in benchmark mode. For anti-aliasing we’ll support MSAA and FXAA.
We are still hard at work optimising the game. DirectX 12 allows us much better control over the CPU load with heavily reduced driver overhead. Some of the overhead has been moved to the game where we can have control over it. Our main effort is in parallelising the rendering system to take advantage of multiple CPU cores. Command list creation and D3D resource creation are the big focus here. We’re also pulling in optimisations from UE4 where possible, such as pipeline state object caching. On the GPU side, we’ve converted SSAO to make use of async compute and are exploring the same for other features, like MSAA.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition came out for Xbox One earlier this year. You can read Jeff’s review here (http://wccftech.com/review/gears-war-ultimate-edition/) and a list of features below.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition update weighs a hefty 5GB (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50621/gears-war-ultimate-edition-update-weighs-hefty-5gb/index.html)

A new Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (http://amzn.to/1QvC7al) update is hitting the Xbox One today, and the 5GB of space it requires fixes the dreaded matchmaking issues that seemed to make for longer than usual wait times and includes other great bug fixes.

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50621_1_gears-war-ultimate-edition-update-weighs-hefty-5gb.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50621_1_gears-war-ultimate-edition-update-weighs-hefty-5gb_full.jpg)

Chief among those is the improvement of hit registration against enemies that are behind cover. That means you won't be able to wall-bang, and also that your weapons will hit where you're aiming now. No wondering why they won't just stay dead. Another major bug they fixed was Boomshot hit registration, where it failed to damage an enemy at all when fired at their feet. It should do something, right? Now it does.

They've also made some changes to the multiplayer map playlists based on some of the feedback they've recently received. They've adjusted the rate at which you earn XP in Execution so it actually matches how you'll earn in other modes. A new competitive team deathmatch playlist has been added for those that enjoy that style of fast-paced mayhem. And Warzone has returned as a permanent member of the social playlist. It left for a short time, though fans were eager to see it return.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC Gets Screenshots, File Size & Requirements – Ideal Specs: 16GB RAM + 980Ti/R9 390X

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/gow_ultimate_pc_6-635x343.jpg
Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC has been sneakily listed on Windows Store (https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/store/games/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-for-windows-10/9nblggh3shm5). You can’t search for it currently, but somehow Twitter user @M578Fury (https://twitter.com/M578Fury/with_replies) managed to catch the page, which features nine Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC screenshots. We have grabbed them for your viewing pleasure; they’re not rendered at 4K resolution, but they still give a pretty good idea of what we can expect.

There’s a lot more on the store page, though, such as the file size – a whopping 52.76GB, which will occupy a fair portion of any hard drive.

Of course, possibly the most important information is the one detailing the requirements for Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC. Interestingly, Microsoft has added another type of specs to the usual minimum and recommended: ideal specs. You’ll need Windows 10 and specifically the 1511 build to play the game, too, though that was expected since the game has been remade for DirectX 12 (http://wccftech.com/gears-war-ultimate-unlocked-frame-rate-devs-explain-dx12-async-compute/).
There’s nothing about the release date, but Microsoft might reveal that information later this week in a press event, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can check our review of the Xbox One version (http://wccftech.com/review/gears-war-ultimate-edition/).

MINIMUM SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i5 @ 2.7Ghz / AMD FX 6-core, Memory: 8 GB RAM (2 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R7 260x / NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12
RECOMMENDED SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i5 @3.5GHz+ / AMD FX 8-core, Memory: 16 GB RAM (4 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R9 290X / NVIDIA GTX 970, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12
IDEAL SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i7 @4GHz+ / AMD FX 8-core, Memory: 16 GB RAM (6 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R9 390X / NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12
SUPPORTED OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only) with Windows 10 November update installed (Windows 10 Version 1511)

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is now available on PC (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/matthew-wilson/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-is-now-available-on-pc/)

Microsoft has been very tight-lipped on Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on the PC since its announcement last year. However, today the game finally launched completely out of the blue, with full DirectX 12 support and built to impress with 4K graphics.

Aside from that, the PC version of the game comes with an unlocked frame rate and mouse/keyboard support, as you would expect from a shooter on PC.
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Gears-of-War-e1456849042147.jpg (http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Gears-of-War-e1456849042147.jpg)
The game has some system requirements in place too, with the minimums calling for an Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 650Ti or an AMD R7 260X graphics card. Those looking for a decent experience at 1080p will need an Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 970 or an R9 290x. Those looking to game at 4K on the other hand will need an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 980Ti or an R9 390X.
In all cases, the game is only supported on Windows 10. On top of that, it is built using the universal app platform, which means no multi-GPU support so getting high frame rates at 4K may be a struggle at points depending on optimization. The game will also be stuck in Borderless Windowed mode with V-Sync on so that is worth keeping in mind.
Those on Windows 10 can grab the game from Microsoft’s Store App for £22.79.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will soon have multi-GPU support (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50880/gears-war-ultimate-edition-soon-multi-gpu-support/index.html)

The Coalition and Microsoft have found themselves in a pretty insane position right now, launching Gears of War: Ultimate Edition onto the Windows Store. Windows Store-based games do not feature multi-GPU support, so with it being a DX12-powered game - those high-end GPUs in SLI or Crossfire are wasted on GoW: Ultimate Edition... for now.

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50880_01_gears-war-ultimate-edition-soon-multi-gpu-support.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50880_01_gears-war-ultimate-edition-soon-multi-gpu-support_full.jpg)

According to Rod Fergusson, Studio Head of The Coalition, the developer is working on multi-GPU support. Fergusson fielded some questions on Twitter, where he said: "Microsoft working on multi-GPU and if you unlock framerate it runs at monitor framerate so may need to bump it up".

As for the general performance and stability of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on the PC, PezRader from The Coalition has said: "We do not have any news to share at this time for the PC version. I know some are worried but please don't fret. We are wanting to make sure polish and performance are prioritized on the PC version so that you all have a great experience".

Gears of War 4 'blew my mind', says Xbox marketing exec (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50909/gears-war-4-blew-mind-xbox-marketing-exec/index.html)

Despite the disastrous launch of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50777/gears-war-ultimate-edition-another-pc-launch-disaster-amd/index.html) on PC, Microsoft is asserting that Gears of War 4 will be "mind-blowing".

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50909_11_gears-war-4-blew-mind-xbox-marketing-exec.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50909_11_gears-war-4-blew-mind-xbox-marketing-exec_full.jpg)

Xbox marketing exec Aaron Greenberg was recently shown the most recent build of Gears of War 4, and publicly states that it was absolutely "mind blowing" (https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/705961337151598592). Greenberg also affirmed that the Gears franchise is in "very good hands" with The Coalition (formerly known as Black Tusk Studios). After Microsoft had purchased the Gears of War series from Epic Games, the company handed off development to The Coalition.

The Xbox exec also revealed that a beta test for Gears of War 4 is coming up soon, so we'll be able to try it out and see if it's truly mind-blowing or not. The beta test will likely be gated off behind pre-order access, which is the norm for the industry these days.

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/705567093614202881/2vhRmg2E_normal.jpg Aaron Greenberg ‎@aarongreenberg (https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg)
Yes my mind was blown today thanks to @GearsViking (https://twitter.com/GearsViking) trust me @GearsofWar (https://twitter.com/GearsofWar) 4 in VERY good hands. #BETAUPNEXT (https://twitter.com/hashtag/BETAUPNEXT?src=hash) https://twitter.com/gearsviking/status/705946300424916992 … (https://t.co/Pw3VCDm9o4)
<time class="dt-updated" datetime="2016-03-05T03:41:13+0000" pubdate="" title="Time posted: 05 Mar 2016, 03:41:13 (UTC)">3:41 AM - 5 Mar 2016</time> (https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/705961337151598592) · Seattle, WA, United States (https://twitter.com/search?q=place%3A300bcc6e23a88361)

Although Gearheads will take Greenberg's words to heart, we have to remember that he's indeed biased towards his own brand. These are the same execs that hail Microsoft's awkward push into PC gaming as "innovative", and say things like "Microsoft wants to break down the walls and bring gamers together".

Ironically, Epic Games' co-founder Tim Sweeney recently called Microsoft out for "monopolizing PC games development", delivering a scathing report on the company's takeover of Windows 10 gaming.

In any case, Gears of War 4 will likely be one of the many future Xbox One games that will simultaneously release onto Windows 10 PCs. The sequel is expected to hit in Fall 2016.

AMD’s Gears of War woe might be Nvidia in the mix

http://www.fudzilla.com/media/k2/items/cache/aab3af436e306e68d2be8e97210f7530_L.jpg (http://www.fudzilla.com/media/k2/items/cache/aab3af436e306e68d2be8e97210f7530_XL.jpg)

PhysX by default

The fact that Gears of War Ultimate Edition ran so poorly on AMD gear might be because Nvidia’s PhysX is actually running by default.

Rumours started flying around the web after expensive AMD gear started to pack a sad whenever it played the game that something had gone wrong between the testing and the launch of the game. Sure enough when someone peaked under the bonnet every single game-related INI file contained the following: “bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False.”
This means that the AMD cards were being forced to try and play Nvidia’s PhysX which is a bit like giving me an iPhone and expecting me to use it.
Extreme Tech (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/224216-is-nvidias-physx-causing-amd-frame-rate-problems)had a look under the bonnet using a Windows performance monitoring tool, Perfmon and saw if it made a difference. What was weird though was that the CPU was spiking.
It did make a 14 per cent but that is nowhere near enough to explain the ton of suck which Gears of War players saw. However when it is configured like that the GTX 980 Ti’s frame rate is roughly double that of the R9 Fury X (we benchmarked with ambient occlusion disabled, since that mode causes continual rendering errors on the AMD platform) and the CPU use doesn’t keep spiking the way it does with the AMD cards.
Nvidia’s own website says nothing about PhysX. Given the age of this version of the Unreal 3 engine, it’s possible that this is a variable left over from when Ageia owned the PhysX API; Unreal 3 was the first game engine to feature Ageia support for hardware physics.
Extreme Tech said that all it had was evidence that the CPU usage pattern for the AMD GPU is different than the NV GPU. There’s no clear evidence that PhysX is causing this problem, but the game runs unacceptably on Radeon hardware and this might be a factor.

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.3 Drivers Add Support For Hitman DX12, Massive Boost For Radeon R9 Fury X and Radeon R9 380X in Gears of War The new drivers will not only support Hitman which is the latest DirectX 12 infused title, but also deliver boost in performance for the Radeon R9 Fury X and Radeon R9 380X graphics card. The drivers also fix AMD’s Rise of Tomb Raider performance, specifically for the Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card which compared to the Crimson 16.2 driver release will now perform up to 16% better. In the footnotes, AMD mentions that this was achieved with resolution on 1080P and a Haswell-E based rig.
Since launch, NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics cards have shown superior performance (http://wccftech.com/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-pc-performance-analysis/) in the title with the Radeon R9 Fury X performing close to a GeForce GTX 980 in the same game which is a $479 US graphics card. With the additional boost, AMD expects to reach performance near the GeForce GTX 980 Ti levels which is its actual rival since both cards retail at $649 US in the retail market. It remains to be seen whether the performance increase will be passed on to the other Radeon graphics cards or remain exclusively for the Radeon R9 Fury X.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition PC Graphics – Lowest Vs Max

http://i1.wp.com/www.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/5mDFF3p.jpg?resize=800%2C450
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has gotten off to a shaky start on PC, partly due to the erratic performance on a wide range of systems, causing frame rate drops and other glitches; basically the same as every other game launch these days. Then there’s the fact I’ve yet to know anyone who actually bought it anyway, so there’s some food for thought.
So what’s this game really got to offer anyway? Well, it’s got massively improved graphics vs the original release and that’s certainly no bad thing for those who have yet to play the original, or even just for those keen to revisit the classic first entry in the franchise. PC gaming is known for being able to push great graphics, but how do the graphics settings fair when they’re dialed all the way down to their lowest, vs how they look at their maximum? That’s what these screenshots (http://www.dsogaming.com/screenshot-news/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-max-versus-lowest-comparison-screenshots/) aim to capture.
The images are ordered max/low, max/low, etc throughout.

Some fairly mixed results here, on minimum the game somehow manages to have worse textures that the original, which managed to run great on modern hardware, with high frame rates and even a mid range GPU can push it to 1440P and 4K without breaking into a sweat. However, the new one seems really muddy to me, although admittedly the maximum images do look great, they don’t seem to really change much more than a few textures. The lighting, decals, detailing and more seem fairly locked down in this images.
Overall, it’s still a great improvement on maximum from the original game, but perhaps not the big upgrade people were expecting, nor does the PC version offer any visual advantages over the Xbox One release; short of higher frame rates, but with the current state of the engine, they’re not guaranteed either.

Gears Of War Ultimate Edition PC Patch To Improve Performance Inbound; Allows For Ambient Occlusion Tweaks

An upcoming patch for Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC will be improving the game’s performance, and will allow for ambient occlusion tweaks.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/AMD-Radeon-Gears-of-War-Ultimate-Edition-Ambient-Occlusion-On-635x357.jpg
Developer The Coalition announced the PC update through their official forums (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/forums/a35773093fe74d3d9970e0a896b16d6d/threads/updates-coming-to-gears-ue-for-windows-10---updated-march-11/ce4e8579-c73b-49df-8a7d-cc76de6d83c4/posts) recently. According the game’s technical director, the update is scheduled for a release in the upcoming week. These are the key features for the upcoming patch:

Performance optimizations
Refactor of texture settings to better reflect VRAM requirements and to better manage the texture levels for each setting.
Ambient Occlusion tweaks.
Tuned mouse coming out of roadie run.
Disabled mouse smoothing.
Furthermore, the developer will also be releasing some updated, optimized playlists to help with matchmaking.
Advertisements

The Coalition also took some time to answer common questions from the Gears community:

Textures not loading
This will be improved by the update next week. We’ll continue to make improvements here where we can.
NAT problems
We are looking into why this is happening. While we work on discovering the root cause, we are discussing changes we can do to help matchmaking if you are erroneously given the wrong NAT type.
Long Queues
Our playlist change coming early next week should help with this.
21:9 Support
We hear you and we are adding ultra-wide resolutions to the game.
Mouse Acceleration
Our update next week will disable mouse smoothing and increase the responsiveness coming out of roadie run. I’ll continue to read the feedback after the update.
Achievements not unlocking
We’re working on tracking down the reason this would happen.
Other items we are working on:
– Reducing hitches on start of level.
– Reducing hitches when streaming level chunks.
– Reducing audio stutter on older CPU’s.
Gears of War Ultimate was released earlier this month, as the world’s first DX12 game. Unfortunately the shooter suffered from some serious visual corruption issues. More about these issues can be read in this post right here (http://wccftech.com/nvidia-gameworks-visual-corruption-gears-war-ultimate-edition/) and here (http://wccftech.com/amd-nvidia-gears-of-war-ultimate-broken/).

[UPDATED] Gears Of War Ultimate Edition PC Patch To Improve Performance Inbound; Allows For Ambient Occlusion Tweaks

Update 1: The Coalition has updated their initial forum post (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/forums/a35773093fe74d3d9970e0a896b16d6d/threads/updates-coming-to-gears-ue-for-windows-10---updated-march-11/ce4e8579-c73b-49df-8a7d-cc76de6d83c4/posts?page=1) overnight with consolidating answers to questions from the Gears PC community. The most interesting answers, include answers to VSync, VRAM, borderless fullscreen gaming, and Cross play.

Cross play
We have discussed this (we talk about everything you guys are suggesting). We are going to make sure all game modes are working as expected and roll out the playlist changes and evaluate those. We’ll continue to discuss options to improve.
VRAM Issues
The texture changes we’ve made will help with this. I went into some more detail in the texture streaming thread as well.
Borderless Fullscreen
LegendaryDread had some good questions.
– Increased video requirements: We create our swap chain differently in UWP to manage this. Extra VRAM pressure generally comes from other things you’re running on the system and can affect us, this is the same in exclusive full screen.
– Multi GPU: There is no limitation here. We are working on adding mGPU.
– Strictly enforced V-sync: We are working with the platform team on this. https://twitter.com/XboxQwik/status/703734557774774272
V-sync
We all agree and are working with the platform team on this. The game is capable of much higher framerates than you’re seeing if your monitor is limited to 60hz.

Microsoft Fixes Gears of War Performance For AMD Radeon Cards – Is NVIDIA Gameworks Still To Blame?

A few weeks ago, Microsoft launched Gears of War Ultimate Edition for the PC which was an updated version of the original title released back in 2006. The updated Ultimate Edition was developed on the DirectX 12 API and users were expecting to see some good performance and detail updates from the title but at launch, the game was infested with many PC related bugs and issues. Today, Microsoft has released an updated patch which fixes most of the performance issues and Overclock3d (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/gear_of_war_ultimate_edition_performance_retest_-_the_game_has_been_fixed/1)has put in some effort to benchmark the updated version of Gears of War with several modern graphics cards.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-for-xbox-one-gc-sale-01-635x551.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/gears-of-war-ultimate-edition-for-xbox-one-gc-sale-01.jpg)
Microsoft Brings Several Performance Updates and Bug Fixes for PC Version of Gears of War Ultimate Edition So what was the reason behind the mess that led Microsoft and the developer (The Coalition) to issue a patch at such a short notice. We are talking about a major patch just a few weeks after the launch of the title and the developer could have easily delayed their game if they knew that bugs existed inside their game. The game was launched on PC last month and exclusively for Windows 10. While there were plenty of bugs that are addressed in the latest patch, the most prominent issue was the poor performance specific to Radeon graphics cards. The bug fixes included in the latest patch are listed below (Full List here (http://wccftech.com/gears-war-ultimate-edition-pc-patch-improve-performance-inbound-ambient-occlusion-tweaks/)):

Performance optimizations
Refactor of texture settings to better reflect VRAM requirements and to better manage the texture levels for each setting.
Ambient Occlusion tweaks.
Tuned mouse coming out of roadie run.
Disabled mouse smoothing.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition Performance Benchmarks With Latest Update: The latest benchmarks are now published by Overclock3D (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/gear_of_war_ultimate_edition_performance_retest_-_the_game_has_been_fixed/1)and show the AMD cards performing just as great as their GeForce counterparts. The Radeon R9 Fury X performs close to the GeForce GTX 980 Ti at the highest in-game settings while the Radeon R9 380 now performs better than the GeForce GTX 960 to which it was loosing the battle just a few weeks ago. This sudden increase in performance raises many questions against Microsoft as to why they rushed the game in the first place when they could have delayed the game for a few weeks and optimized it further for not only AMD cards but PC in general. You can see the benchmarks below from OC3D (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/gear_of_war_ultimate_edition_performance_retest_-_the_game_has_been_fixed/1):

Images Source/Credits: Overclock3D.net (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/gear_of_war_ultimate_edition_performance_retest_-_the_game_has_been_fixed/1) Not only is the performance fixed but the game now runs with much less issues than its launch day release. OC3D state that the game has been completely fixed which means that they faced no issues testing the title which is good news for gamers who had bought the game from Windows store (where the game is sold on Windows 10 systems exclusively).
Did Gameworks / PhysX Really Mess Gears of War Or Was It Just Microsoft’s Rushing Launch With No First Hand Testing The initial benchmarks of the game showed that Radeon cards were generally behind their GeForce counterpart and in some cases, the GeForce cards were up to 10 FPS ahead of equally comparable Radeon cards. There was no reason given by either the publisher or developer on such a big difference in performance seen on the GPUs but a few people suggested that it might have something to do with NVIDIA’s Gameworks implementation that might have led to the poor performance of Radeon cards.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NVIDIA-PhysX-635x277.png (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NVIDIA-PhysX.png)
First up, we have the PhysX issue where some users managed to find NVIDIA’s PhysX listed in one of the games INI file. NVIDIA’s PhysX is part of their Gameworks library and simulates physics rendering through either CPU (Software PhysX) or by NVIDIA’s CUDA based graphics cards (Hardware PhysX). Extremetech (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/224216-is-nvidias-physx-causing-amd-frame-rate-problems)managed to run a detailed analysis of PhysX in Gears of War and they concluded that even after forcing PhysX through NVIDIA’s control panel to run on and NVIDIA graphics card.

When tested, the system reported no performance difference when PhysX processing was offloaded to the CPU and in Extremetech’s (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/224216-is-nvidias-physx-causing-amd-frame-rate-problems)case, a Core i7 processor (Haswell-E). In no way is the game using PhysX on either NVIDIA or AMD based systems, so to say that PhysX might be the reason behind AMD’s dismal performance in Gears of War prior to patch is incorrect especially when the same INI file exists after the latest patch yet AMD gets improved performance in Gears of War.

The second issue which was widely reported as a Gameworks related issue was the visual corruption bug which was encountered when the NVIDIA specific HBAO+ effect was turned on, on AMD cards. Now first things first, NVIDIA’s HBAO+ is also part of their Gameworks library and is specifically built for GeForce cards. AMD’s own solution for ambient occlusion is HDAO and SSAO. Sure many games don’t feature support for both but that and while HBAO+ is designed to run best on NVIDIA cards, there’s no one stopping AMD users from using HBAO+ as there have been a constant flow of titles that have utilized HBAO+ and never once was there such an issue as encountered in Gears of Wars Ultimate Edition.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/AMD-and-NVIDIA-HBAO-635x632.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/AMD-and-NVIDIA-HBAO.jpg)

Fallout 4 reports similar performance drop with AMD and NVIDIA cards when HBAO+ is enabled The latest game to feature HBAO+ was Fallout 4 which when turned out impacted FPS on AMD and NVIDIA cards in the same way. There were many titles before Gears of War Ultimate Edition where AMD users could use HBAO+ and didn’t face any visual corruption. In fact, Microsoft’s handling of the visual corruption bug on AMD’s card where the disabled the feature as a whole could point out that it was the rushed up launch that caused the issues rather than being a Gameworks specific fault.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/g4pjvP886_8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

While testing the game, we were also quite surprised to note that the previous GCN based cards such as the R9 290X delivered better performance than the Fury X at 1440P and 4K before the patch. AMD not having drivers for their Radeon R9 Fury and 380 series cards (Both GCN 3.0) at the launch of the title could be the issue behind that but they had mostly fixed the performance issue by delivering up to 60% increase in total performance with their Crimson 16.3 drivers (http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-crimson-16-3-drivers/). The point to mention is that these Gameworks features still exist with the latest patch in Gears of War Ultimate Edition but AMD’s performance has been fixed completely. Reports about the issues being a fault of Gameworks at the launch of the game could be put to rest now.
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/microsoft_studios.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/microsoft_studios.jpg)
To conclude this article, we should first state that Microsoft has fixed the performance of their game with some bugs still present but was it supposed to be this way from the start? Gears of War Ultimate Edition was Microsoft’s way of giving back PC community some love but it turned out to be the complete opposite. There were issues on not just AMD but also NVIDIA cards. The game was one of the buggiest launches of 2016 and Microsoft should have had tested the game before shipping it to consumers but that wasn’t the case.
All in all, it was a bad show from Microsoft and not the way PC gamers are won in their hearts. Microsoft is soon to release another title exclusively for Windows 10 PCs called Forza Apex which is a Free to Play title based on the same Forza DNA as available on the Xbox One console. Microsoft should make sure that they don’t repeat the mistakes they made handling Gears of War Ultimate Edition.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition patch adds multi-GPU support (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/51168/gears-war-ultimate-edition-patch-adds-multi-gpu-support/index.html)

The PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has been a mess since the start, with developer The Coalition pumping out new updates to slowly make the game what it should've been at launch. The new patch has the current focus from the team:

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/1/51168_01_gears-war-ultimate-edition-patch-adds-multi-gpu-support.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/1/51168_01_gears-war-ultimate-edition-patch-adds-multi-gpu-support_full.jpg)

Ultra-wide resolutions (2560×1080 and 3440×1440) added to the game. In performance testing.
Reduce hitches during level transitions. In stability testing.
Reduce audio stutter on older CPU's (3rd gen Intel). Some improvement, still working on it.
Reduce hitches in general. Some improvement, still working on it.
Investigate adjusting strict NAT matchmaking rules.
Investigate adding FPS counter.
Multi GPU support. In development.
Improve texture quality for cards with 1GB VRAM.

We should see the new patch for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in the coming weeks.

Boa tarde,

Gears Of War Ultimate Edition PC To Get Fix For Quicker Match Times, 21:9 Fix Required FoV And Code Changes

Gears Of War Ultimate Edition has been released on PC earlier this month, and developer The Coalition has already released two patches, which fix some of the issues that plagued the game at launch and introduce new features. A few hours ago, the team has detailed on its official forums some details on fixes that will be coming soon to the game.

Recently it’s been confirmed (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/forums/a35773093fe74d3d9970e0a896b16d6d/threads/updates-coming-to-gears-ue-for-windows-10---updated-march-22/ce4e8579-c73b-49df-8a7d-cc76de6d83c4/posts?page=10#post199) that the team will soon introduce some fixes that will help make match times faster. The changes have yet to be rolled out, as the team is still testing them.

“We’re testing changes today to remove strict nat restrictions from matchmaking and to allow matches to start without a full 8 players. These changes are service side so far and we plan to test them thoroughly tomorrow. Will keep you updated based on timeline to roll out the changes.”
More details (https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/forums/a35773093fe74d3d9970e0a896b16d6d/threads/updates-coming-to-gears-ue-for-windows-10---updated-march-22/ce4e8579-c73b-49df-8a7d-cc76de6d83c4/posts?page=11#post217)have also come in on what the team had to tweak to make the introduction of Ultra Wide resolutions possible in the upcoming new update. Apparently, the team had to make some FoV and code changes.

Sadly the 21:9 fix isn’t that easy. We had to make some FoV changes and well do some code changes to avoid some really bad fish eye we were seeing (Trust me it wasn’t pretty).
As mentioned above, a new Gears Of War Ultimate Edition patch is currently in certification, with its release not being too far off. The update will add the already mentioned Ultra Wide resolutions as well as plenty of tweaks and fixes that will vastly improve the experience

Here are the full details of the next upcoming Gears Of War Ultimate Edition patch.

Ultra-wide resolutions (2560×1080 and 3440×1440) added to the game.
Pipeline state object cache optimizations to reduce hitches during level transitions.
Fixed a bug that could cause full Unreal garbage collect unnecessarily, leading to minor visual hitches.
Fixed a visual corruption bug that would rarely affect Nvidia cards when changing resolutions and VRAM became over committed.
Added support for setting anisotropic filtering level through the INI file (details on how to do this coming soon).
Fixed lack of mouse input when using lowest mouse sensitivity and fully zoomed in with sniper rifle and moving the mouse very small amounts.
Adjustments to low (1GB VRAM) texture setting.
Added ability to toggle an FPS counter. Press the “Delete” key at any time to turn the counter on/off. (Why Delete key? Because we have it reserved from rebinding).

Gears Of War Ultimate Edition is now available on PC and Xbox One in all regions. The patch is currently in certification, so it shouldn’t take to long for it to release. We’ll let you know when it does as soon as possible, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
