Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide announced (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/jon-martindale/warhammer-the-end-times-vermintide-announced/)

It seems Games Workshop has finally realised that it’s sitting on a goldmine of an IP, as the last six months have seen more Warhammer games announced than the franchise has had released in its entire history. To continue that trend, another game based in the Warhammer: Fantasy universe has been announced, called Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide and it is pretty different from anything that’s we’ve seen so far.

According to Finnish gaming magazine Pelaaja (via NeoGAF (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=985742)), the game is a four player, cooperative shooter/brawler, a bit like Borderlands or Left 4 Dead, but in a fantasy medieval setting. Players take on the roll of different Empire soldiers, ranging from mad flame-slinging wizards, to a wizened Witch Hunter. There will be five available characters to choose from, each with unique abilities, characteristics and back story.
Gameplay will be mission based, with the local tavern acting as a headquarters between missions. Players return there to learn of new jobs and to replenish their stats and gear. Much of their tasks will involve delving into the underbelly of the Empire city or Ubersriek, which has been taken over by Skaven.

(http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/endtimes.jpg)The game’s developer said to be Fatshark, the same team behind War of the Roses and War of the Vikings. It will be interesting to see if this game’s melee combat works in a similar fashion to those two titles.

Skaven, the oversized rat men, are a common enemy in the Warhammer: Fantasy universe, relying on numbers to overwhelm their enemies, as well as cunning and in-fighting. The developers wanted to use one of the universe’s more charismatic enemies, without needing to resort to the orcs once again, feeling they were a little played out.

There is also said to be some form of AI director, much like Left 4 Dead had, so enemies will not attack from the same direction or in the same style when mission areas or individual quests are repeated.

Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe.
Vermintide takes place in and around Ubersreik, a city overrun by Skaven. You will assume the role of one of five heroes, each featuring different play-styles, abilities, gear and personality. Working cooperatively, you must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from the hordes of relentless rat-men, known as the Skaven. Battles will take place across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.

Fatshark announced that the first Warhammer Vermintide DLC has been officially released. Titled Sigmar’s Blessing (http://updates.vermintide.com/release/sigmars-blessing/), it’s already available for all owners of the game on PC.
Martin Wahlund, CEO of Fatshark, said:

After the successful launch, we’ve barely had time to celebrate as we’ve been 100% focused on fixing bugs and creating new content to further expand Vermintide. Sigmar’s Blessing is just the beginning and we are looking forward, to continually add new modes and features into 2016 and beyond.
Here’s what you can find in this Warhammer Vermintide DLC:

Visit the Shrine of Solace and sacrifice tokens that allows players to create weapons of a particular tier, type and for a specific hero. At a later time two more pages will be added to the Shrine: Offering, which allows the player to reroll all the traits on a weapon for a token fee, and Invocate, which rerolls the proc chance on a trait already connected to a weapon. The DLC introduces forty new veteran weapons and five new weapon traits (Off Balance, Backstabbery, Inspirational Shot, Diversion and Safety in Numbers) to both Veteran and Exotic tiered weapons. Five new hero trinkets (Sienna’s Hearthwind, Bardin’s Book of Personal Grudges, Witch Hunter’s Handbook, Kerillian’s Everbeak, and Hammer of the Empire), increase the chance of loot for the corresponding hero and every player can now salvage Trinkets, Hats and Exotic Loot.
Future updates mentioned in the press release also include a single-player private mode (for those interested in facing the Skaven alone), a realism mode that removes the game HUD and crosshairs and a brand new survival mode.
Warhammer Vermintide is also scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms at some point in Q1 2016. Check out the trailer for Sigmar’s Blessing below.
