Silicon Studios to show off new ‘Mizuchi’ game engine at GDC (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/jon-martindale/silicon-studios-to-show-off-new-mizuchi-game-engine-at-gdc/)

Silicon Studios’ beautiful piece of rendering tech, the Mizuchi Engine, that we first saw early last year (http://goo.gl/ddb7Rl), is set to be playable for the first time in just under a month, at this year’s Game Developers’ Conference. Along with it however will be the equally impressive post-effects middleware “YEBIS 3,” the predecessor of which was used in the the stunning 2012 Square Enix tech-demo, Agni’s Philosophy, as well as its C# game engine called Paradox.
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/mizuchi.jpg (http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/mizuchi.jpg)
For the Mizuchi rendering engine, those visiting the Silicon Studios booth between the 2nd and 6th March, will get a chance to wander around that museum scene were saw previously, on a PC, as well as view a real-time tech demo showed on a PlayStation 4, highlighting the rendering-technology’s multi-platform capabilities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=H3O1O3UHnD0

YEBIS 3′s showcase will come via a PC demo too, as well as some specific gameplay demonstrations with titles from various developers that have made use of the technology. Bandai Namco’s free to play brawler, Rise of Incarnates will make an appearance, alongside motocross racer, MXGP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nk9xPxhTuVY

Finally, the Paradox engine, which uses a unique open source C# system and is capable of mobile and console development, with DirectX 11 support, will be demonstrated in all its glory. One of its biggest features is its ability to scale with the developer and the game they’re making, allowing for heavy customisation and eventually in the future, collaborative real time editing, meaning that the artists and programmers can be working on the same scene simultaneously without interrupting each other’s workflow.

GDC 2015 – What We Can expect To See

The Game Developer’s Conference takes place during March 2 – 6, and features over 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions, with speakers from all over the gaming space. The GDC Expo is part of the conference and simultaneously highlights tools, platforms and services used by game devs. The conference also is filled with indie hopefuls and occasionally, major breaking news.
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Game-Developers-Conference-RealGamerNewz-Event-635x337.jpg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Game-Developers-Conference-RealGamerNewz-Event.jpg)

What are we going to see at GDC next month? Microsoft will host “The Future of Gaming Across the Microsoft Ecosystem” and it’s a no brainer that the HoloLens will make an appearance.”Developing Games for Windows 10″ is Microsoft’s second panel in which they could probably show us what games we can expect later this year and probably talk about DirectX 12 implementation.
Sony unveiled Project Morpheus, last year. Its virtual reality headset for the Playstation 4, which has made very few appearances since then. Its quite possible though, that it will make a comeback at this year’s event. It is also very likely that the Occulus Rift will have a strong showing, during which the company might present us with a final build and a consumer release date.
Eidos will make an appearance and demonstrate its Dawn Engine, on which the latest Deus Ex is built on. AMD will be present as well to discuss TressFX implementation in the Dawn engine. The latter will also be part of a session, alongside Valve and others, during which the successor of OpenGL will be discussed. Ubisoft will be present and will likely demonstrate either a new engine or at least a DirectX 12 implementation on updated versions of it’s established engines.
Silicon Studios will also showcase its Mizuchi engine. As GDC’s schedule states, Silicon Studios will be showcasing the tools included in its physically-based rendering engine, “Mizuchi”.

“We will be presenting the workflow of how “Mizuchi” can actually be applied using the real-time demo “Museum” which we released last year. There will be a PC demo version as well as a real-time demo using PlayStation®4. There will also be a demo session which will highlight the main features of “Mizuchi”.”
Mizuchi surely looks incredible. The videos of the engine can be watched below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sYX9I3ONHc4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qqrJNKW0LcY

I hope we have some interesting reveals as well, but most likely those will be saved for E3 later on this year. Although there will surely, still be enough gaming related news to satisfy our thirst, especially the DirectX 12 demos, will definitely be something to keep an eye on, as well as the introduction of the OpenGL Successor by AMD and Valve. AMD is will surely impress us with the implementation of the new TressFX tech. We’ll keep you updated with any new information that comes to light and follow with full coverage of the event early next month.

NVIDIA to host 'Made to Game' special event during GDC 2015 on March 3

NVIDIA has started teasing a new event that it will host during GDC 2015 called "Made to Game", which the GPU giant will host on March 3. NVIDIA will have its President, CEO tough guy Jen-Hsun Huang at the show, with a major announcement.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43470_04_nvidia-host-made-game-special-event-during-gdc-2015-march-3.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43470_04_nvidia-host-made-game-special-event-during-gdc-2015-march-3_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43470_04_nvidia-host-made-game-special-event-during-gdc-2015-march-3.jpg

Huang's invitation to the media teases: "More than 5 years in the making, what I want to share with you will redefine the future of gaming". Huang has also referred to the event as a "very special event" but nothing else has been shared. What could we see? A new GPU? A new portable gaming device? A specialized Steam Machine? Who knows, but I'm excited for whatever NVIDIA will be showing off.

NVIDIA's secret unveiling at GDC 2015 to be an Android-powered console

We know that NVIDIA will be hosting a special "Made to Game" event (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43470/nvidia-host-made-game-special-event-during-gdc-2015-march-3/index.html) on March 3 during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015, but the company hasn't said anything outside of the new product will "redefine the future of gaming". No details, not even so much of a tease of what it could be.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43472_06_nvidias-secret-unveiling-gdc-2015-android-powered-console.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43472_06_nvidias-secret-unveiling-gdc-2015-android-powered-console_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43472_06_nvidias-secret-unveiling-gdc-2015-android-powered-console.jpg

We know that it has been five years in the making, but what we're going to report is that it will be an Android-powered console. We're sure that it will be powered by a Tegra processor, most likely the Tegra X1 that NVIDIA unveiled at CES 2015 earlier this year (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/42476/nvidia-announces-tegra-x1-mobile-powerhouse/index.html). It would make sense, as NVIDIA has been pushing in that direction with its Shield line for a while now.

It wasn't long ago that we reported on a Tegra X1-powered Shield Tablet (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43375/nvidia-rumored-working-tegra-x1-powered-shield-tablet/index.html), but maybe it is the new Android-powered console that we here at TweakTown think it will arrive as? We have a Shield Tablet that would be close to an Android-powered console as it is, the Shield Controller which could connect to it, but a new 4K-capable gaming box that could bake down to 1080p 60FPS? Yes, please. This is all speculation until NVIDIA unveils the new device on March 3, which isn't too far away from now.

Crytek Working on New VR Experience

Crytek has an enormous amount of talent available to them, and have been able to create some very outstanding games and game engines in the past. But now they seem to want to break into the VR world (http://vrfocus.com/archives/11385/crytek-bringing-new-vr-showcase-gdc-2015/) as well.
Last year at the GDC they showcased both Crysis 3 and Ryse: Sone of Rome running on the Oculus Rift. But since last year’s demonstration of their own games and game engines working with VR, they’ve been very silent as to what they are planning next. They’ve apparently told VRFocus (http://vrfocus.com/archives/11385/crytek-bringing-new-vr-showcase-gdc-2015/) that something completely new will be featured this year.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Crysis-3-1-635x357.jpg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Crysis-3-1.jpg)Image Courtesy Crysis,com

Crytek has now announced that they are working on their own VR experience to demo with the Oculus Rift at the 2015 GDC. No actual concrete details were mentioned aside from the fact that this will most definitely not be last year’s VR demo and should be able to wow consumers even more than last year. The extreme realism of Crytek’s CryEngine 3 should allow for a very immersive experience already, so what they have in store for the future of VR is a bit of a mystery, though they are obviously very talented. At last year’s GDC, for instance, their demo was able to run on the Oculus Rift DK2 at 100 fps.
Using Crytek’s engine in VR isn’t necessarily new by any means. If you happen to be a lucky owner of one of the Oculus development kits, you can look either for the open source injection driver (http://www.mtbs3d.com/new-vireio-site) that can enable stereoscopic gameplay in games not originally made for it, or you can purchase the vorpX driver (http://www.vorpx.com/) from Animation Labs that has even more support for games than the open source driver. These, of course, don’t promise any sort of actual compatibility outside of what they’ve tested because of their “unofficial” nature, but many games can be played with VR headsets, including Crysis 3.
Looming rumors of bankruptcy (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/08/08/crytek-ceo-company-is-absolutely-safe-bankruptcy-never-the/) some time ago, which were promptly shot down, have not stopped Crytek from making headway into the market as they have in the past. In addition to the new PC based VR experience they will have on offer at GDC this year, they apparently will be showcasing a mobile version of their CryEngine for use on Android, and possibly even iOS at a later date. This is their first break into the mobile scene, and any potential games on this new engine that Crytek is working on are yet to be seen or even heard of.
Maybe Crysis or Crysis 2 will make their way over to mobile? I also wonder what plans they have for mobile VR solutions like the Samsung Gear VR (http://wccftech.com/samsung-gear-vr-headset/). Very exciting news for those that are VR heads or are looking for the future of VR.

Valve vai mostrar Steam Machines na GDC 2015

Valve has been following their legendary “Valve Time (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time)” system of scheduling again, this time in regard to their Steam Machines that were supposed to be available last year. Valve is, however, going to beshowing off (http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/12/8027027/valve-steam-machine-gdc-2015) their latest Steam Machines very soon.
http://wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/gspyvk6puhn4ibeozkft-1-635x350.jpg (http://wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/gspyvk6puhn4ibeozkft-1.jpg)
Valve is going to be showing off its upcoming Steam Machine and latest SteamOS devices at GDC 2015.

Further development and changes to the controller as well as refinement of the OS itself have led to the actual release date being pushed further back, though some companies are selling their newly minted designs sans SteamOS for our gaming pleasure.
They have certainly been very quiet about their plans for the coveted Steam Machine and when it can be expected. The controller has also been redesigned (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-controller-design-reportedly-finalized-more-/1100-6424515/) to supposedly combat some of the problems that the two trackpads were causing. But, nonetheless, we still have small pre-built PC’s available to us as a result of their efforts to embark on their own journey into the living room.
Their goal is certainly reachable as PC sales continue to remain steady, but is it actually a concept that people want to use? Valve’s Greg Coomer described what their overall goals were for this project on their forums (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse#announcements/detail/2145128928746175450):
<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5257724448514074" data-ad-slot="4225663910" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;"></ins>
“We wanted to accomplish some specific design goals that in the past others weren’t yet tackling. One of them was to combine high-end power with a living-room-friendly form factor. Another was to help us test living-room scenarios on a box that’s as open as possible,”

There have been thirteen previous Steam Machines that were announced last year, with a few of them even coming to fruition as Windows PC’s. Alienware (http://wccftech.com/dell-alienware-alpha-flagship-steam-machine-console-form-factor-starts-shipping/) has their Alpha console, iBuypower (http://www.ibuypower.com/Phttp://www.ibuypower.com/Product/SBXroduct/SBX) has their SBX,ASRock (http://wccftech.com/asrock-bmw-debut-m8-unstoppable-mini-atx-masterpiece/) their M8 platform and there are a number of other ITX based cases (http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=533&area=en) that fit the bill for the custom builder in all of us.
The great thing is that the SteamOS is relatively hardware agnostic, only limited by the underlying Linux kernel, which is gaining support and better drivers from the likes of AMD and NVIDIA so that gaming performance can actually be competitive in a Linux environment. Phoronix (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nvidia-amd-opencl-2015&num=1) has tested the newest set of drivers from both and the performance indeed seems to be doing quite well.
Hopefully this means that we’ll be able to see actual stable products releasing sometime soon. I’m curious as to how the SteamOS will compete with the traditional console, as the console seems to also be a media consumption device for many as well. Likewise, we may be able to see a glimpse as to the future of the Steam Machine and maybe even the reworkek controller.

Valve lets off Steam

More prototypes machines at GDC 2015
While have heard a lot about Valve's Steam Machines project we still have not seen an official release, it appears that the company will once again show the latest prototypes during Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015.

According to a report from Polygon.com (http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/12/8027027/valve-steam-machine-gdc-2015), Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed that the company will showcase new Steam Machines prototypes at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 scheduled to start on March 2 in San Francisco. Valve has previously detailed a total of 13 partners which are part of the Steam Machines project, including the likes of Alienware, Zotac, CyberPowerPC, iBuyPower, Maingear.
For those who came in late, Valve's Steam Machines project is a device that will be based on a variety of hardware components, price range and run on Valve's own SteamOS operating system.
Valve has originally planned to released Steam Machines sometime last year, but company has decided to delay the release this year.
It will certainly be interesting to see the new Steam Machines prototypes and see if there are any new partners with new and interesting hardware combinations.

AMD Working On Something “Crazy” For GDC

Brad Wardell revealed (http://t.co/DmCGbezHfg) that AMD is working on something “Crazy” for E3 plus a new demo for GDC that will make Starswarm look “primitive”. Wardell is the founder, president and CEO of Stardock a well established game publisher and developer.
Wardell partnered with Oxide Games in 2013 to create Nitrous, a next generation game engine designed for complex real-time strategy games.
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/AMD-Radeon-R9-295X2.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/AMD-Radeon-R9-295X2.jpg)Due to the ambitious goals set out for the Nitrous engine by Oxide Games and Stardock , it was one of the very first to incorporate Mantle support (http://wccftech.com/amd-mantle-powered-nitrous-engine-star-swarm-benchmark-released-steam/), AMD’s low level graphics API. To illustrate the key benefits of Mantle Oxide Games created a demo / stress test called Star Swarm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PKxP30WxYM), in which thousands of spaceships engage in combat.
New DX12 Stardock Demo Coming At GDC
We’re going to be showing something at GDC that will make Starswarm look really primitive, because Starswarm is something we whipped up in like two months.
That should be in the Microsoft booth there at GDC to be able to show just the massive difference.
Said Brad Wardell during an interview (http://t.co/DmCGbezHfg) with The Inner Circle.

<ins data-adsbygoogle-status="done" class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;width:336px;height:280px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5257724448514074" data-ad-slot="4225663910"><ins id="aswift_0_expand" style="display:inline-table;border:none;height:280px;margin:0;padding:0; position:relative;visibility:visible;width:336px;b ackground-color:transparent"><ins id="aswift_0_anchor" style="display:block;border:none;height:280px;margin:0;pa dding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width :336px;background-color:transparent"></ins></ins></ins>

We’ll be in the AMD booth, I can’t tell you the specifics but AMD has something crazy they’re working on.
When I look at hyperware or whether something is going to be successful I usually go was the idea in hindsight obvious ? and AMD is working on something that in hindsight will be like duh why didn’t we have this already ?
The way Wardell described whatever this “crazy” thing that AMD is working makes it difficult to pin down exactly what it is. I suspect that it has something to do with the company’s Mantle, DX12 or other software initiatives. And even perhaps, although less likely, a preview of new graphics hardware.
It’s possible that AMD may showcase a new GPU at the show. The R9 300 series isn’t far away according to AMD’s CEO Lisa Su (http://wccftech.com/amd-graphics-refresh-coming-q2/). AMD surprised everyone by announcing Mantle back in 2013 and it would make sense for the company to package its new major announcement at GDC with a preview of its next generation graphics technology and a roll-out of FreeSync monitors (http://wccftech.com/amd-11-freesync-monitors-march/).
We’ve already heard that AMD is “putting the finishing touches” (http://wccftech.com/amd-putting-finishing-touches-r9-300-series/) on the R 300 series about a week ago. Numerous leaks (http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-380x/) also surfaced a few weeks back which indicated that the new GPUs are in the final stages. With a new Fiji XT graphics board (http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-380x/) even completing the certification process. Leaks point to Fiji XT being AMD’s flagship GPU that will go into the R9 390X. The new card is also allegedly going to be the first ever to utilize the AMD and SK Hynix co-developed stacked High Bandiwdth Memory or HBM for short that is up to 9 times faster than GDDR5 (http://wccftech.com/amd-20nm-r9-390x-feautres-20nm-hbm-9x-faster-than-gddr5/).

Microsoft announces GDC keynote: Future of gaming across Windows 10 and Xbox (http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-announces-gdc-keynote-future-of-gaming-across-windows-10-and-xbox)

http://www.neowin.net/images/uploaded/2015/02/xboxone_gdc_logo_mashup2_story.jpg
Microsoft has just announced that the company will be coming back to GDC in force, with 16 sessions, booths, games and announcements about the future of gaming on the Xbox One and Windows 10.
Ever since the January event, where Xbox head Phil Spencer showed off some of the gaming features coming to Windows 10 (http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-xbox-app-to-start-receiving-monthly-updates-new-features-soon), the company has said that it would have a lot more to share with the public at GDC.
And it looks like the company is holding to its promises, with sessions announced to include cross-platform developments between Xbox and Windows 10, many more details about DirectX 12 (http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-gaming-on-steroids-with-directx-12), talks about the future of Xbox Live, and some games being shown off.
And of course the biggest event is probably the keynote speech from Spencer, entitled “The Future of Gaming Across the Microsoft Ecosystem”. We’re likely to see a combination of all the subjects listed above condensed in a one-hour talk that’s bound to get fans excited.
With DirectX 12 being at the heart of Microsoft’s gaming efforts, and Windows 10 slated to eventually land on the Xbox One we’re very excited to see what Microsoft shares with us come March 4th.

Microsoft to be present "in full force" at GDC 2015

Microsoft has officially announced that it will have a strong presence (http://news.xbox.com/2015/02/xbox-gdc-2015) at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 in San Francisco. The GDC 2015 takes place from 2nd to 6th March and Microsoft will host a special presentation slap bang in the middle of the show schedule, on 4th March (11am PST/2pm EST/7pm UK), called 'The Future of Gaming Across the Microsoft Ecosystems'.
http://hexus.net/media/uploaded/2015/2/e4daec3a-9bd4-472b-9a55-415ecfec9196.jpg
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer will host the special presentation, as you might expect. From the Windows 10 announcements (http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/79742-windows-10-free-upgrade-windows-7-8-users/) a few weeks back we know that Xbox branded gaming and Xbox Live will be part of the Windows 10 experience on PCs, tablets and mobiles. The new Xbox app (http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/79762-phil-spencer-details-gaming-microsoft-windows-10-directx-12/) is an important part of the desktop PC Windows 10 experience, for example.

DirectX 12 (http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/79762-phil-spencer-details-gaming-microsoft-windows-10-directx-12/) will be a hot topic at GDC and it will be detailed more thoroughly in the presentation and over a number of other Microsoft hosted sessions (http://schedule.gdconf.com/list) (there will be 16 in total) at the GDC. New development tools and new features coming to both Xbox One and Windows 10 are promised. Cross-device gaming and multiplayer will be an obvious topic to be discussed further as part of the 'one Windows' push.
As well as its keynote presentation and developer sessions Microsoft will have a robust booth presence and two lounges at the Moscone Centre showing off the latest and greatest games. There won't be a live stream of the special 4th March event but a little later in the day the keynote session presented by Phil Spencer will be available to watch online on the Xbox Wire Blog, Channel 9 (http://channel9.msdn.com/) and on YouTube.
We will be watching the news with interest, especially on the PC side of things, hoping for more DirectX 12 technical details and demonstrations. Also at GDC we expect to see/hear some important announcements and developments from Valve concerning the glNext API and Steam Machines (http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/80414-valve-present-glnext-high-performance-graphics-gdc/).

Sony Providing ‘Key Lessons For Artists Working With VR’ At GDC 2015 – Project Morpheus likely to return

We have been aware for some time that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will be present at this year’s GDC with Project Morpheus, it VR headset. The company confirmed this in January when it listed a talk that will provide ‘an update’ on the kit on GDC’s Session Scheduler. A new session, has been recently revealed on the schedule, that is set to address videogame artists working in VR.
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Project-Morpheus2-1411110400780-635x357.jpg (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Project-Morpheus2-1411110400780.jpg)

Sony’s Project Morpheus VR headset for the PS4 will likely make a return at this year’s GDC. The talk, titled ‘Virtual Visuals: Key Lessons for Artists Working with VR‘ takes place at 14:00 PST on 5th March 2015, and is hosted by SCE Environmental Art Supervisor, Jason Hickey. It will detail the ‘early steps’ that the Art team at SCE London Studio, known for its work on The Deep and Street Luge, took for working with Project Morpheus. The presentation is is geared towards those working in art positions and producers working with such teams, but is suitable for all levels.

“The audience will gain an insight into the experience of an art department going through change and readying itself to tackle the exciting challenge of VR,” the talk’s official description reads. “The talk focuses on what we have learnt is possible with the visual direction and which aspects become most important.”

GDC takes place from 2nd – 6th March. While SCE is bringing Project Morpheus, Oculus VR will also be showcasing the latest prototypes of both its Oculus Rift PC HMD and Gear VR smartphone-based HMD, the latter of which is made in partnership with Samsung. Plenty of other VR developers and companies will also be hosting talks and showcasing their work throughout the week.
The creator of the Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey, mentioned that he didn’t think consoles were fit for virtual reality, due to their weaker hardware not being able to drive a 3D image at high enough framerates to provide a smooth VR experience. Based on the hands on experience of people that have tried Project Morpheus though, this statement seems far from the truth.
Virtual reality on the PS4 is going to be amazing. Morpheus was still in prototype form the last time seen. Sony mentioned that the final product will probably be quite different in both look and specs, but the current headset looks pretty damn slick nonetheless. From what has been shown so far it feels like a more complete product than the Oculus, sporting a far more elegant look and a more comfortable and secure fit.
Sony might reveal an updated model at this year’s GDC or at least provide us with potential final specs that the unit might have. We will bring you more information regarding Sony and Project Morpheus as soon as it becomes available, as well as coverage of the GDC event.

Valve will be talking about VR, physics engines and more at GDC 2015

Valve, one of the most infamous developers in the world, will be having not one but four presentations at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015. The company said it wouldn't be hosting its Steam Dev Days conference for 2015, but instead it would have a "larger than usual presence at GDC".

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43706_01_valve-talking-vr-physics-engines-more-gdc-2015.png (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43706_01_valve-talking-vr-physics-engines-more-gdc-2015_full.png)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43706_01_valve-talking-vr-physics-engines-more-gdc-2015.png

The company won't be talking about specific games, but we can expect that out of the four presentations, the companyu will use its own upcoming games as examples in presentations. This means that we could see a massive tease of Valve's upcoming games, and while there might not be any actual announcements, we might see into the world's of these games. Think Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 3 and others and you might just feel the hairs stand up on your arms.

Valve will be hosting a panel on the future of OpenGL technology, which is something the company is invested into with its SteamOS being Linux-based, and Linux and OpenLG going hand-in-hand. Over the past couple of years Valve has been pushing for the adaption and improvement of OpenGL. We reported on this all the way back in 2012 (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/25133/valve_ports_left_4_dead_2_to_linux_outperforms_win dows_version/index.html), where Valve squeezed more performance out of the OpenGL version of Left 4 Dead 2 than it did in Windows. Valve will also be talking about VR at GDC 2015, which is equally as exciting. We will learn about the creation of VR world's, which will end up moving into advanced topics like the challenges of creating high quality graphics, and having them pumped into users' eyes at high speeds.

When it comes to physics, we should be excited as Valve really changed things back in 2004 when it launched Half-Life 2 running on the Source Engine. I think we're going to see Source 2.0 unveiled, with a truly next generation physics engine. Color me excited.

Sony Plans a ‘4 Hour’ Project Morpheus Showcase at GDC

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/31322-Sony-Morpheus-02-800x607.jpg
Sony will begin a concentrated publicity campaign for its Morpheus VR headset with a “four-hour” showcase at the Game Developers Conference in March. Weeks ahead of its E3 media conference, Sony will send representatives to the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco to brief attendees on the prospects and challenges of developing virtual reality content for PlayStation 4 (http://www.gamespot.com/ps4/).
Confirmed already is a one-hour speaker session, hosted on Wednesday March 4, entitled Beyond Immersion – Project Morpheus and PlayStation. Then on Thursday, a PlayStation US representative will discuss various insights into rendering for virtual reality. Sony has also booked seats on two public developer roundtables which will discuss VR. For now, the 4 hour session has not been listed on the official GDC schedule. Sony has been contacted for confirmation on this.

Valve will be showing off its SteamVR hardware at GDC 2015

We reported yesterday that Valve would be talking about VR (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43706/valve-talking-vr-physics-engines-more-gdc-2015/index.html), physics engines and more but now the company has confirmed exactly what it will be teasing at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015, and it has us very excited.

Valve will be showing off the final Steam Controller for its upcoming Steam Machine platform at GDC 2015, as well as its "previously-unannounced SteamVR hardware system". Valve also has plans to show "new living room devices" at GDC, which will most likely arrive as a slew of new Steam Machines. What has us excited however, is the idea of a full unveiling of its SteamVR platform.

GDC 2015 takes place between March 2-6 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

Looking for VR content creators
Steam has announced a new and refined Steam Controller, but it is also bringing a completely new toy in the form of SteamVR.

The products will be showcased at GDC 2015, but the company did not reveal any specs for SteamVR – it merely described it as a “previously unannounced” hardware system. The company also said it is actively seeking VR content creators and called on all those who think they have what it takes to check out the SteamVR demo at GDC.
A limited number of SteamVR dev kits will be available as well, so if you are willing to give it a go, Valve urges you to schedule your demo now (http://store.steampowered.com/universe/).
With Oculus, Sony, Panasonic and Samsung in the game, competition in VR space is starting to heat up. However, we have not heard anything from not one, but two elephants in the room – Nvidia and AMD.

Valve has 'prominent hardware manufacturer' to make SteamVR headset

It wasn't even 24 hours ago that we were writing about Valve showing off its SteamVR headset (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43727/valve-showing-steamvr-hardware-gdc-2015/index.html) at GDC 2015 next week, but VRFocus has heard "from a reliable source close to the project" that the HMD itself will be made by a third-party company.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43751_09_valve-prominent-hardware-manufacturer-make-steamvr-headset.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43751_09_valve-prominent-hardware-manufacturer-make-steamvr-headset_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43751_09_valve-prominent-hardware-manufacturer-make-steamvr-headset.jpg

Valve has reportedly secured a "prominent hardware manufacturer" to make the headset, but now the speculation will begin as to who this hardware manufacturer is. In order to fight against the likes of Oculus VR, Sony and other VR headset makers, Valve can't do this on the cheap. Maybe Valve is working with NVIDIA on the SteamVR headset (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43739/nvidia-rumored-working-vr-headset/index.html)? Now that should start an exciting discussion.

All eyes are on GDC 2015 for the future of VR

Oculus VR Started Something Bigger Than We All Anticipated
The virtual reality headset market is really heating up, where if we think back to even just three years ago, there wasn't even the possibility of any device on the radar that was going to arrive and all of the sudden heat up the VR market. Everything changed when Palmer Luckey took to Kickstarter, requesting $250,000 to fund something called the Oculus Rift, and bring it to the market.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_20_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_20_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_20_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr.jpg

In the years after, Luckey started making headlines all over the place, with Oculus VR securing some of the best talent in the industry to join the company. John Carmack, co-founder and supreme coder at id Software got his hands on an early prototype of the Rift and put his weight behind it. Various large figures in the gaming industry started following behind him and VR was born, again.

<center></center>I remember being at NVIDIA's GTC 2014 last year in San Jose, California when the news broke that Facebook had acquired Oculus VR for a huge $2 billion. I was downstairs at the bar with some friends and upon reading it, saw red. I was angry and disappointed, as I saw Oculus VR as the one shining hope for the enthusiast PC market to have a new goal to reach, something that would really push the boundaries of hardware.

In the coming hours and days, the idea of Facebook acquiring Oculus VR began to sink in, and I wrote an OpEd about it. I wrote then, and still believe that "Oculus VR is the Valve of the VR world", but that's beginning to change because Valve has announced that it will be showing off its SteamVR hardware platform at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 next week.

This is where things get interesting, because since then, we've seen Oculus VR partner up with Samsung (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/38113/samsung-working-with-oculus-vr-on-vr-headset-for-media/index.html). This partnership saw Oculus VR secure early access to next-gen OLED displays from Samsung, while Samsung received early access to Oculus VR's mobile SDK, something that John Carmack was, and still is working on (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/40032/oculus-vr-announces-the-samsung-gear-vr-innovator-edition/index.html).

There Are Now Many Other Players
Since Oculus VR set the VR world on fire with the announcement of its Oculus Rift VR HMD, we've seen Samsung hot on the heels with the collaboration with Oculus and its Gear VR headset. The Gear VR, while powered by Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 smartphone, is powered by Oculus VR.

Sony wasn't far behind with the announcement of its own VR headset known as Project Morpheus (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/38465/sony-begins-teasing-the-specs-of-its-vr-headset-project-morpheus/index.html), which is supposedly exclusive to the PlayStation 4 console. Sony has said that it will be hosting its own four-hour event that will detail Project Morpheus at GDC 2015 (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43651/sony-hosting-project-morpheus-event-during-gdc-2015/index.html), which should have us all excited.

While all of this was happening, we knew that Valve was working on its own VR or AR head-mounted display, but it was only showcased in private, to select media and industry insiders. This was back in January of 2014 during Valve's Steam Dev Days conference (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/34906/valve-vr-tech-at-steam-dev-days-impresses-show-goers/index.html), with everyone having nothing but great things to say about it.

Samsung is the first with a consumer VR headset to reach the market with its Oculus-powered Gear VR headset. The Gear VR requires an expensive Galaxy Note 4 to function, but it's here, and it shows that virtual reality isn't something to laugh about anymore. It's a reality.

In the last week or so, we've been hearing the distant rumbles that NVIDIA could be working on its own VR headset, with the great name of 'Titan VR'. This could be what NVIDIA has in store for us on March 3 at GDC 2015, but with this event just days away now, the excitement is building quickly.

It's Not Just Hardware, But Software, Too
One of the pillars of VR isn't going to be incredible hardware, as hardware can continue to scale upwards as technology is improved, which is constantly. We might see Oculus VR launch its CV1 headset with a 1440p display, but I'm sure that CV2 will quickly go to 4K, and then we might see 4K with additional technology enabled in 2017-2018.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_19_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_19_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/7/0/7003_19_eyes-gdc-2015-future-vr.jpg

But mark my words: we are going to push so fast into higher resolution VR displays that it'll make most people's heads spin. We've been held back so much on the PC because of consoles, but VR is going to open so many doors to new technology. Without going too deep into the whole 'consoles have held back gaming for over a decade' argument.

Software and content is going to be the key driving force of the adoption of virtual reality. We could have the best HMDs released by Oculus, Sony, Samsung, NVIDIA and more, but without great games, applications and new experiences, it could very well die quicker than it started. I don't believe this will happen at all, but I think that's what is going to differentiate the players - software.

Oculus has a name behind it so far, and it has countless developers on its VR bandwagon. The company has assembled an all-star list of talent, from John Carmack to Michael Abrash, through to the original staff of Nate Mitchell and the VR brains himself, Palmer Luckey. The company has also been very committed to working with developers of all sizes on getting content, games, and apps to its Oculus Rift headset.

We won't need to see huge AAA titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Destiny or any other massive game that is super popular on consoles and reaches those headlines on various websites around the world, but it will need a bunch of quality experiences that are completely different from those first-person shooters and massively multiplayer online games.

Shorter games and experiences, between 15-30 minutes, are going to be the next big thing. You're not going to want to sit down in the world of the VR headset for hours at a time like you do with your TV or computer monitor. We'll get there, but the masses won't sit there like zoned out zombies in the VR world at first.

Adventure, horror, exploration games and so much more will be the key drivers behind virtual reality and its future. Games that can be consumed in quick doses, paused or saved, and shelved for later in the day, or an entirely new day. Movies that can be watched on the VR headset, where you could be sitting on the Moon with an IMAX sized screen in front of you, or sitting in the middle of a jungle watching that latest episode of The Walking Dead. This is the future: VR content.

GDC 2015 Is Just Around The Corner - The Keys to the VR Kingdom Await Us
GDC 2015 takes place next week, where I think we're going to see something truly revolutionary for the PC market. VR is going to explode onto the show floor in a way that I don't think many expect. We've seen a few teases here and there from Oculus VR and Samsung, but now we're seeing companies like NVIDIA, Razer, Sony and more get involved in a serious way.

It was only a year ago that some of these companies didn't even bother with VR, but were working behind the scenes with Oculus, or tweaking drivers and working on various technologies to have their products work with the Oculus Rift - and that's not even a consumer product yet.

When was the last time that happened? When was the last product that wasn't even out in the consumer world, but had the support of a company like NVIDIA behind it? I can't remember the last time that happened, not for something as 'exotic' as a virtual reality HMD.

I think we're going to see something very big at GDC 2015, and it has me excited - but you should be, too.

The 3's just keep lining up as Half-Life 3 rumors hit overdrive

As told to us by RagnarRox (https://www.Facebook.com/RagnarRoxGaming/photos/a.1482791581972753.1073741828.1472589696326275/1544806075771303/?type=1&comment_id=1544829029102341&ref=notif%C2%ACif_t=comment_mention), Valve has set a press release aside for GDC at 3pm on the 3rd of march. Let me run that by you again - 3pm on 3/3.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43839_013_3s-keep-lining-up-hl3-rumors-hit-overdrive.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43839_013_3s-keep-lining-up-hl3-rumors-hit-overdrive_full.jpg)

What's even funnier? With GDC being held in San Francisco, San means three in Japanese - further adding to the madness of 3's. There has been numerous funny attempts to prove HL3's existence by the gaming public, becoming a meme-like process (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/half-life-3-confirmed) as seen with the popular Illuminati proof videos and articles (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-illuminati) you often see.

However this time the 3's have lined up in ridiculous fashion - could it be that Half-Life 3 is on the way?

“Vulkan” Could be glNext’ Name – GDC Reveal Next Week

Khronos Group might have revealed the name of their new API, via a trademark registration. Both DirectX 12 and glNext, are going to be revealed next week, during the GDC event. Khronos trademark registration reads as follows:
http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Vulkan.png (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Vulkan.png)

“Computer software, namely application programming interfaces for the purpose of creating, rendering, and displaying 2D and 3D computer graphics; computer software, namely application programming interfaces for the purpose of accessing parallel computing resources; downloadable specifications for the aforementioned goods.”

“Vulkan” could be the name of OpenGL’s successor Seeing as Khronos is indeed responsible for the new API, and the description of the trademark implies exactly that, “rendering, and displaying 2D and 3D computer graphics;computer software” it’s safe to assume that Vulkan could be the glNext’ name.
The Game Developer’s Conference (http://wccftech.com/gdc-2015-expect/) takes place during March 2 – 6, and will feature over 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions, with speakers from all over the gaming space.

AMD will be present as well to discuss TressFX implementation in the Dawn, engine, Eidos’, new engine powering the new Deus Ex title. AMD will also be part of a session, alongside Valve and others, during which glNext will be discussed.
Next week will definitely be quite exciting, with so many different subjects to be discussed, and so many devices and software applications to be demonstrated, it will surely be a very important time for anyone involved with the industry. From DirectX 12 and Vulkan(glNext), to VR devices such as Oculus Rift, Sony’s Project Morpheus, and a potential VR device from Valve. To new engines, new game IP announcements and demonstrations, GDC has never been this thrilling.
“Vulkan” and DirectX 12 will not be the only exciting things at GDC Nvidia (http://wccftech.com/nvidia-hosting-press-event-march-3rd-redefine-future-gaming/), will be hosting their own event at the same time, on March 3rd, entitled, “Made To Game”, during which they will potentially reveal a new gaming device, that will “redefine the future of gaming”. Nvidia claims that it has been five years in the making. This new device could possibly be a new gaming portable system, that could use either Android or a new API (like glNext) and will most definitely be powered by the Tegra X1 SoC. The X1, is reported to have 1 teraflop of computing power, which brings it very close to the Xbox One hardware.
Another very likely possibility is that it will be a VR headset that could potentially feature the Tegra X1 on board, thusly not requiring any external devices, like a high-end PC. Of course it wouldn’t be true to Nvidia’s strategy if a very powerful Geforce GPU wasn’t required to run the VR device, so it could also just be a VR headset similar to the Oculus.
Regardless, all of these exciting aspects of the industry, will be demonstrated at GDC, so hold on tight as we will be in for quite a ride, We will bring you coverage of the GDC event as well as any new information on Vulkan(or however it may be called), DirectX 12, games, engines, AMD and Nvidia as soon as the show stars.

AVADirect announce Omni VR desktop, for all things VR gaming

GDC 2015 - With all of the news of VR headsets and games, one can get lost in the reality of it all when it comes to purchasing a new PC that is ready for all things VR. This is where AVADirect's new Omni VR desktop comes into play.

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_05_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming.png (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_05_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming_full.png)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_05_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming.png

AVADirect has announced the new Omni VR desktop, which is built from the ground up for the full virtual reality gaming experience. For those in the know, the Virtuix Omni is a VR treadmill that has you more in the game than ever before, with an AVA Omni VR Desktop Series PC powering it all. Thanks to AVADirect's "standard testing analyses" you can ensure that this system will meet any requirements you have for the virtual, and real worlds.

The new AVA Omni VR Desktop has been "engineered and designed specifically for the Virtuix Omni Gaming Platform", but that doesn't mean it's not one of the best systems you can buy for VR gaming. AVADirect has specifically chosen parts in the system that ensures you can play games at 1080p at a minimum of 75FPS thanks to the inclusion of an EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SuperSC ACX2.0+ video card (http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6950/evga-GeForce-gtx-960-supersc-acx-2-video-card-review/index.html).

image: http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_04_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_04_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming_full.jpg)
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/3/43895_04_avadirect-announce-omni-vr-desktop-things-gaming.jpg

The entire system can be configured to your liking, with the AVA Omni VR Desktop housed in the beautiful EVGA Hadron Air Black Mini Tower Case, which has an Omni etched side panel. Inside, we have a 500W PSU which will handle most configurations, and the EVGA Z97 Stinger Wi-Fi motherboard mixed with the Intel Core i5-4460 quad-core CPU which can be upgraded to the Core i7-4790. We have 8GB of RAM (upgradeable to 16GB) and the aforementioned GeForce GTX 960 from EVGA, which can be bumped up to the much more powerful EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SuperClocked ACX 2.0.

To be honest, I'm super impressed with what AVADirect has done here. They haven't just slapped together a PC with a video card that is capable of 1080p at 75FPS minimum, they have specifically chosen each part to match the other. Everything is mixed together in a green-and-black color scheme just like the Virtuix Omni, and NVIDIA hardware. On top of that, you're getting a stress-tested system that ensures ultimate stability, with a price that will not break that VR presence.

The AVA Omni VR Desktop starts at $1400 with the Core i5 processor and GeForce GTX 960, while it scales right up to $2400 with the Core i7 processor and GeForce GTX 980. The new AVA Omni VR Desktop systems are available right now, with the Virtuix Omni itself to be made available later in the year.

GDC 15: Intel and Raptr Partner for PC Gaming Optimization Software

One of NVIDIA's biggest achievements in the past two years has been the creation and improvement of GeForce Experience. The program started with one goal: to help PC gamers optimize game settings to match their hardware and make sure they are getting the top quality settings the hardware can handle and thus the best gaming experience. AMD followed suit shortly after with a partnership with Raptr, a company that crowd-sources data to achieve the same goal: great optimal game settings for all users of AMD hardware.
Today Intel is announcing a partnership with Raptr as well, bringing the same great feature set of Raptr to users of machines with Intel HD Graphics systems. High-end users might chuckle at the news but I actually think this feature is going to be more important for those gamers that utilize integrated graphics. Where GPU horsepower is at premium, compared to discrete graphics cards, using the in-game settings to get all available performance will likely result in the most improvement in experience of all the three major vendors.
http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/news/2015-03-04/raptor1.jpg (http://www.pcper.com/image/view/53570?return=node%2F62481)
Raptr will continue to include game streaming capability and it will also alert the users to when updated Intel graphics drivers are available - a very welcome change to how Intel distributes them.
http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/news/2015-03-04/raptor2.jpg (http://www.pcper.com/image/view/53571?return=node%2F62481)
Intel announced a partnership to deliver an even better gaming experience on Intel Graphics. Raptr, a leading PC gaming utility now available on Intel Graphics for the first time, delivers one-button customized optimizations that improve performance on existing hardware and the games being played, even older games. With just a little tweaking of their PC settings a user may be able to dial up the frame rate and details or even play a game they didn’t think possible.
The Raptr software scans the user’s PC and compares a given game’s performance across tens of millions of other gamers’ PCs, finding and applying the best settings for their Raptr Record system. And Raptr’s gameplay recording tools leverage the video encoding in Intel® Quick Sync technology to record and stream gameplay with virtually no impact on system performance. Driver updates are a snap too, more on Raptr for Intel available here.
Hopefully we'll see this application pre-installed on notebooks going forward (can't believe I'm saying that) but I'd like to see as many PC gamers as possible, even casual ones, get access to the best gaming experience their hardware can provide.

GDC 15: Intel Demos Socketed, LGA1150 Broadwell CPU with Iris Pro Graphics

Consumer have been asking for it since the first time Intel announced it, but Iris Pro graphics is finally finding its way to the desktop, socketed market. Shown powering one of Dell's new 5K displays, this processor shipping in "mid-2015", is going to be configured with a 65 watt TDP and will be unlocked for overclockers to tweak. Intel first disclosed these plans way back in May of 2014 (http://www.pcper.com/news/Processors/Intel-brings-Iris-Pro-Graphics-Broadwell-LGA-Sockets) so we are going to be approaching the 12-month mark for availability.
http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/news/2015-03-04/iris1.jpg (http://www.pcper.com/image/view/53568?return=node%2F62480)
It doesn't look special, but this system has the first desktop Iris Pro processor
In a new disclosure at GDC, Intel showed the first 5th Generation Core LGA-socketed CPU with Intel® Iris™ Pro graphics. This 65 watt unlocked desktop processor, available mid-2015, will bring new levels of performance and power efficiency to Mini PCs and desktop All-In-Ones. Since 2006 the 3D performance of Intel Graphics has increased nearly 100 fold (Intel 3DMark06 measurements) and powerful form factors from Acer, Medion and Intel’s own NUCs are becoming available with 5th Generation Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Graphics.

Under that little heatsink...
Details of this new CPU offering, including clock speed and graphics performance, are still unknown but Intel claims we will have this part in our hands in the near future. This isn't targeted to overtake consumers with mid-range discrete graphics systems but instead will bring users interested in a SFF or low power system with both home theater features and improved gaming capability. Our testing with Iris Pro graphics in notebooks has proven that the gaming performance gains can be substantial, but often the battery life demands have limited implementations from OEMs. With a desktop part, we might actually be able to see the full capability of an integrated GPU with embedded memory.

Intel announces Achievement Unlocked dev relations program

http://techreport.com/r.x/2015_3_4_Intel_announces_Achievement_Unlocked_dev_ relations_program/embed.jpg
Intel wants to make life easier for game developers targeting its integrated graphics. To that end, the company has announced (http://blogs.intel.com/technology/2015/03/gdc-2015/) a new developer relations initiative called Achievement Unlocked at GDC 2015. I'll let Intel speak for itself here:
[Achievement Unlocked is] a coordinated worldwide effort to help game developers succeed when creating games that target Intel Graphics hardware, Intel Core processors, and Intel Atom processors. A new game developer portal supports bidirectional communication with game developers. Achievement Unlocked offers improved technical assistance to developers worldwide and additional success mentoring and go-to-market opportunities. This program coordinates and expands current Intel game industry support activities including involvement in standards organizations, support for academic game development programs, and conference and event sponsorships. Achievement Unlocked provides game developers a great business opportunity to target hundreds of millions of Intel powered Android and Windows devices worldwide.
Intel's IGPs are becoming increasingly capable (http://techreport.com/review/24879/intel-core-i7-4770k-and-4950hq-haswell-processors-reviewed/5), so it's no surprise that the company is taking new steps to reach out to developers. Given how many PCs feature Intel IGPs, and with the company's mobile platforms gaining traction in mobile devices like the Dell Venue 8 7000 (http://techreport.com/review/27790/dell-venue-8-7000-tablet-reviewed) and Asus' Memo Pad ME176C (http://techreport.com/review/26823/android-on-x86-a-quick-look-at-asus-memo-pad-me176c-tablet), developers should find Intel's willingness to cooperate welcome. Interested parties can find out more information about the Achievement Unlocked initiative at Intel's game developer portal (https://software.intel.com/gamedev).

NVIDIA GDC News - HBAO+ is Everywhere (http://www.hitechlegion.com/news-press/htl-news/43684-nvidia-gdc-news-hbao-is-everywhere)

NVIDIA HBAO+ has quickly gained traction in the development community. The most recent example of a game using HBAO+ is Son of Nor. Launched this week at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, it’s the first Unity Engine-based game to feature HBAO+.
* Note: The content in this HTL Newsrpost has been provided from NVIDIA.
HBAO+ is a fast, simple way to add an exceptional level of detail to a game. It provides remarkable image quality, yet it’s incredibly efficient where performance is concerned, which makes it a win for gamers and game developers. How fast? Through the UE4 branches on GitHub, HBAO+ can be integrated into UE4 games in about an hour (http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2015/02/20/warmachine-tactics/)
http://www.hitechlegion.com/images/press/latest/nvidia/hbaowhite.jpg
What does HBAO+ look like? In this image, each shaded pixel comes thanks to HBAO+. Without ambient occlusion all you would see, with the exception of the fire effect, is a white screen.
HBAO+ works on GPUs from NVIDIA and its competitors and can be easily integrated into any major game engine. It has been used in games built with CryEngine, Dunia 2, IwGame Engine, Source, Unreal Engine 3, Unreal Engine 4 and many proprietary game engines. A full list of titles that use HBAO+ (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/hbao-plus/games)can be found here.
http://www.hitechlegion.com/images/press/latest/nvidia/wowhbao.jpg

NVIDIA HBAO+ now enhances World of Warcraft: Warlord of Draenor. Recently, big name titles have used HBAO+ to upgrade graphics to games that have already shipped. Just last week (http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2015/02/24/warlords-of-draenor-gameworks/) World of Warcraft upgraded image quality by releasing a patch that included HBAO+ support for gamers to enjoy. The patch updated the render, so HBAO+ was added to the latest expansion, World of Warcraft: Warlord of Draenor, and previous expansions such as Mists of Pandaria and Cataclysm.

GDC 15: Microsoft Announces Wireless Xbox Dongle for PC. Controller Refresh Rumored for E3?

During his keynote speech, Phil Spencer of Microsoft announced a wireless adapter for PC (http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/GDC/GDC-2015/The-Future-of-Gaming-Across-the-Microsoft-Ecosystem). It can apparently be used to connect any wireless Xbox One peripheral on Windows 10. If you watch the presentation, the statement occurred at about 36 minutes and 30 seconds in. It was just a brief acknowledgement of its existence this year.
http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/news/2015-03-06/Microsoft-Xbox_360_Wireless_Receiver.png (http://www.pcper.com/image/view/53586?return=node%2F62492)
This is the Xbox 360 wireless accessory adapter. Image Credit: Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_accessories)
Hopefully the new one will be a stick that pairs via software (vs. the cord and button).
A similar device existed for the Xbox 360, pictured above, and I used it heavily with controller-friendly games (until the adapter died abruptly). I was not a fan of the directional pad, of course, but the rest of the controller suited the games that I play without a mouse and keyboard. I also used the adapter with the Xbox 360 wireless headset, which was surprisingly good (especially at removing speaker noise).
On the same day, Neowin acquired a leak (http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-working-on-a-hardcore-game-controller-for-the-xbox-one) that claims the company is looking to create a new Xbox One controller. They expect that, if the project doesn't get killed internally, we will see the new controller at E3 2015 in June. The design is supposed to focus on first person shooters and driving titles, but nothing else is known about it. We'll see.

At GDC 15 NVIDIA Made It A Lot Easier To Make Games Awesome (http://www.hitechlegion.com/news-press/htl-news/43705-at-gdc-15-nvidia-made-it-a-lot-easier-to-make-games-awesome)

Today at GDC, NVIDIA explains how they are making it easier for game developers to add leading-edge technologies to their titles by providing custom branches for GameWorks integrations in to Unreal Engine 4 via GitHub. "Developers can use custom branches of UE4 to add NVIDIA VXGI, Flex, WaveWorks and NVIDIA HBAO+. NVIDIA HairWorks will be added in the coming weeks. Our goal is to have custom UE4 branches for all GameWorks features through GitHub."
http://www.hitechlegion.com/images/press/latest/nvidia/vxgiting.jpgWhat is the impact on games? This is best illustrate by looking at HBAO+. HBAO+ is a fast, simple way to add an exceptional level of detail to a game. Through the UE4 custom branches on GitHub, HBAO+ can be integrated into UE4 games in about an hour (http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2015/02/20/warmachine-tactics/).
http://www.hitechlegion.com/images/press/latest/nvidia/warmachine1.jpg

It took just an hour to add NVIDIA HBAO+ to Warmachine: Tactics. We created GameWorks to advance gaming at a rapid pace by extending the state of the art in graphics technologies. Developers now have access to the cinematic-quality special effects and the tools they need to make their games better with minimal effort.
More information can be found on the NVIDIA developer blog: https://developer.nvidia.com/content/nvidia-gameworks-increases-pace-innovation-unreal-engine-4-games
NVIDIA VXGI was just revealed at Maxwell Editor’s day in September 2014 and is now available on the UE4 VXGI GitHub branch. NVIDIA VXGI is an implementation of a global illumination algorithm known as Voxel Cone Tracing. Global illumination computes all lighting in the scene, including secondary reflections of light of diffuse and specular surfaces. It is fully dynamic and reduces content creation time significantly. Within GitHub we provide access to the Cornell sample we had shown. We also integrated VXGI into the Sci-Fi Hallway by Quixel (http://quixel.se/):
