Raven’s Cry Developer to GameSpot Review: “We Won’t Fall to Our Knees”

In a recent review published at GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/raven-s-cry-review/1900-6416027/)on “Raven’s Cry” on the 9th of February, the game was criticised by the reviewer on many points and ridiculed aswell. In just a trailer of what was said about the game, the reviewer described the game as “a tale of deeply unsettling gendered violence and racist slaughter played for casual drama.” where “the tale’s written in the language of cheap misogyny and homophobia, and if yer willing to see this story through to its conclusion, ye’ve more patience than I (and a magical copy of the game free of the bug that makes completion literally impossible at the time of this writing). ” And this was not all, there was much more of ridicule to follow and the icing was the 1 out of 10 rating which describes the game as “Abysmal.”

Raven’s Cry Developer Expresses His Anger Towards the Review

The game was criticized basically on the following points from GameStop (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/raven-s-cry-review/1900-6416027/):

Constant crashes, including a bug which kills all game progress.
Frame rate is choppier than the seas your ship sails on.
Rampant racism, sexism, and homophobia.
Combat is broken at worst and button-mashing tedium at best.
Stilted voice acting makes community theater seem like the Royal Shakespeare Company

Where as there ‘Good’ in the game was N/A. Rarely do we ever see such a one sided review for a game and the developers did express their feelings about the review through their Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/destructivecreationsteam/posts/416859885148008) page. Saying:
“In case someone has doubts about our attitude, as developers, towards that “political correctness” thing we’ve mentioned here and there:
Among the bad things mentioned in GameSpot’s Raven’s Cry review summary, you can see “Rampant racism, sexism and homophobia”.

Seriously – ***?
This is a tale about damn pirates here, a totally bad guys, thieves, murderers and rapists. But nowadays, as a game developer, you MUST adjust towards political correctness standards, or otherwise the so-called “progressive” (and loudest) press slaps you in the face. Hatred is bound to be smashed by them, not for being a bad game (because I believe it will be very decent, yet nothing revolutionary), but for standing up against standards like these.
Let me say one thing to everyone buying and advocating this agenda: **** ***! We won’t fall to our knees under your SJW *******. Making games is about freedom of creativity and if you want to tell a “bad” story, do it! Don’t let the fear of bad reviews stop you. Gamers have their own brains and if the game itself is good, they will support it.
Jarosław Zieliński (yeah, I’m the admin here)
P. S. We do realize that Raven’s Cry is an unpolished product and deserves criticism because of it. I am not defending this game’s quality. It’s just a simple outburst of anger.”
These are some fireworks towards the GameSpot team and to be fair, a rating of 1 out of 10 and a blank good corner is very offensive. You have to give it to the developers who tried very hard just to make the game, but to be hit back into their faces because of their inexperience is just not fair.

Raven's Cry dev: 'anything above 30FPS does not matter' (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/49272/ravens-cry-dev-anything-above-30fps-matter/index.html)

I wish I didn't have to write stories like this, but unfortunately, it just happens. Reality Pump Studios, the developer handling Vendetta: The Curse of Raven's Cry, says that anything above 30FPS doesn't add to the gaming experience.

On the Steam forums, a fan asked if the studio would be optimizing its game to add SLI support - to which they replied: "On the one hand it is quite understandable, that a customer who spent 600+ bugs on a high-end card (e.g 980Ti) expects that a game runs faster than on a 2 years old (e.g.780 GTX) - on the other hand ... if you put two or four engines in a car it will be probably not run faster than with one powerful engine. It will for sure be more heavy and bigger, consume more fuel and be very expensive. Please notice, that the developers of the well known Benchmarks receive any support, money and any hardware they want from the video card manufactors ... we received the last free video card 5 years ago, never ever any money and have to purchase video cards like an end-user without any discount in retail".

It makes sense, as small studios don't receive much help in the way of hardware - but the next bit is the nail in the coffin for me. Raidor continued, adding: "And I may add something: it was not our intention to create a graphic benchmark. VCR is a complex RPG with unique characters and story driven. Our focus is on interesting quest chains (which are very difficult to create) and not on frames per second. Beside this I thing that anything above 30 FPS does not matter for the gaming experience. And on my PC i7, GF 780GTX the game runs with 4K never below 30 FPS. No idea what it does on a GF980ti â€" I heard it is sometimes slower".

For a studio named "Reality Pump Studios", they're not pumping much reality into their games if they think anything above 30FPS doesn't add to the gaming experience. Ugh.
