Who needs shadows? Not Rollercoaster Tycoon World apparently (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/jon-martindale/who-needs-shadows-not-rollercoaser-tycoon-world-apparently/)

If the growth of indie developers in the past few years has taught us anything, it’s that photo-realistic graphics are far from needed when it comes to enjoying a game. In-fact, it’s often more important to find a unique visual style that fits its world, or at least tug on our nostalgic heartstrings. In the case of the new Rollercoaster Tycoon World game however, you have to wonder if the bar couldn’t have been raised a little more, as the visuals are hearkening back to early ‘oos 3D and they are not charming in the slightest.

Bizarrely, in some shots there are some shadows for the rides, but not in caps like the above from the latest trailer. Textures are also incredibly low resolution, there’s nothing dynamic about anything making what is detailed look static and if you spot a model that blends in with the environment, do be sure to let me know.

Although it seems unfair to judge a game on its visuals alone, especially before release and anyone’s had a go on it, the fact that the graphics are worse than Rollercoaster Tycoon 3′s (which came out in 2005) suggests that the effort put into this game is severely lacking.

RCT3. Even the people cast shadows here.
While we all ponder what happened at Area 52 for it to make a game that looks this poor (with oddly detailed, pre-rendered CGI cut in), the publisher Atari has plans for a release within the next couple of months. This isn’t even a pre-production video.

Atari scrambles to address horrible RollerCoaster Tycoon graphics (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/development/jon-martindale/atari-scrambles-to-address-horrible-rollercoaster-tycoon-graphics/)

If there is one thing we can agree on, it’s that in the latest trailer release for the upcoming Rollercoaster Tycoon World (RCTW), the graphics were not impressiv (http://goo.gl/0VC82Q)e. If anything, they were a worrying potential indicator for the effort that went into making the game, so the publisher Atari is now hoping to explain it all away and placate fears with an announcement of a graphical upgrade.
“We have heard you and we concur; the trailer did not show the final game and the game everyone should expect from the RCT franchise,” reads the Atari blog post (http://www.rollercoastertycoon.com/rollercoaster-tycoon-world-production-blog-5/) from late last week. It goes on to explain that the game is currently in the pre-alpha stage and that features and graphical fidelity will improve before the game is released.
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/rollercoaster1.jpg
(http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/rollercoaster1.jpg)The lack of shadows in the original trailer were the most obvious
To address some of the concerns too, Atari has said that developer Area 52 will be updating the version of Unity that the game is built in, from four to five. Although there are performance benefits to such a move, the important part that Atari is focusing on is that it will improve graphical fidelity. This will come with “shadow improvements,” as well as tweaks to lighting and better environmental details, according to the publisher.
Other graphical updates that RCTW will have includes a more “realistic” art style, that will make the rides “feel like they can be found in real life.” This suggests a much bigger overhaul than a few tweaks to the aesthetics of the game, as giving it a whole new visual style would be quite a task.
Indeed, the release date may now have been pushed, as Atari confirmed that the game would not be released until it knows that it’s ready.

RollerCoaster Tycoon is Making a Comeback in 2016!

http://i0.wp.com/www.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/rollercoaster_tycoon_world.jpg?resize=800%2C450
The PC platform is home to a huge array of iconic simulation games including Theme Hospital and RollerCoaster Tycoon. During my childhood, the ability to open a hospital, and try to manage the budget while offering good healthcare was a fairly enticing proposition. Admittedly, I preferred it to the theme park titles, because I’ve never been overly fond of rollercoasters. Nevertheless, the formula for any simulation game is really enjoyable and recent examples like Cities: Skylines illustrates their popularity. Clearly, one of the most fondly remembered simulation games is RollerCoaster Tycoon which allows you to build thrilling rides, and create other amenities.
RollerCoaster Tycoon was originally released on March, 31st 1999, and starting to show its age. Thankfully, a sequel entitled, RollerCoaster Tycoon World is in production and scheduled for a 2016 release. Furthermore, the development studio has promised the latest instalment will be a completely different experience from the mobile version and without any microtransactions. According to Mashable (http://mashable.com/2016/01/30/rollercoaster-tycoon-worlds/#g5BjeYgdNZqy), RollerCoaster Tycoon World adopts a similar focus which properly honours the previous game. Additionally, there’s endless potential for replayability as players can share custom created content and upload them directly to the Steam Community.
Sadly, it seems the current build isn’t a graphical masterpiece and doesn’t evoke the same kind of fidelity seen in Cities: Skylines. Atari also demoed the game on an Alienware laptop which just about hovered over the minimum requirements. This resulted in severe frame drops, slow loading times and various crashes to the desktop. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident and the final version will have a greater level of polish. Perhaps, the performance is improved on better hardware as the engine might not be well suited to mobile chipsets.
Even though rollercoaster simulators aren’t to my taste, it’s fantastic to see a classic being revived. Hopefully it lives up to people’s expectations and provides a fantastic experience.

Roller Coast Tycoon is getting a mature VR experience in the future

It turns out that a proper Roller Coaster Tycoon game fits perfectly with VR. Just imagine creating your own rides and then putting on your headset to take them for a proper spin, literally. Roller Coaster Tycoon World will eventually incorporate VR into the game, though only when they can perfect the experience.

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/5/0/50535_1_roller-coast-tycoon-getting-mature-vr-experience-future.jpg

Speaking with Matthew Labunka, a Senior Producer at Atari, he told us that "VR does naturally lend itself to the simulation genre. We are working on designing the best experience for the platform. A solid VR experience takes time and we want to provide relevant game features that fit the platform." It really is a natural fit, because you can already take a ride on any ride you create, so why not make it more visceral. Even better would be the incorporation of a "4D" type of experience with a chair that moves with the ride.

We've seen the experience already with mobile games and other VR demos, but they were incomplete and didn't quite capture the full experience of speeding along a rickety track. Sound, too, is an important aspect of true immersion, and real VR audio solutions aren't quite among us yet, though those solutions are coming.

Roller Coaster Tycoon World is close to release and you can pre-order it now on Steam. Right now they're concentrating on taking the feedback from the various beta tests and fixing the issues to make sure it's a complete, and great game when released. The feedback has been appreciated, though the negative reviews on Steam won't help when it's actually finished and released, throwing people off from a potentially great game.

Trailer shows user generated content in Roller Coaster Tycoon World

The whole premise of Roller Coaster Tycoon World is making some of the craziest and most unusual rides that you've ever seenm

<iframe width="781" height="469" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GDl-303a9Qc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Roller Coaster Tycoon World has some very big shoes to fill since it's the first PC game of the franchise in nearly a decade. And with the advent of the Steam Workshop and the big focus on modding in the PC community with a lot of other games this could be the perfect platform to show Atari's attention to the PC crowd again. The beta tests have provided some invaluable insight into what fans want, and one of those is user-generated-content. Being able to take an insanely over-engineered masterpiece and slap it into your own park.

This UGC functionality is Atari's answer to a new generation of Roller Coaster Tycoon players on the PC that have embraced this personalization and want ways to truly customize content on their own. It integrates directly with Steam Workshop and lets anyone decorate and plan the best-looking park you've ever dreamed of. You may not have the time it takes to make some of the more complex rides, and we expect people to be very imaginative with their creations, so why not be able to share what you've made and use other's to make your park unique among all others. This is a great development, and it does show their commitment to making PC gaming a priority for Atari.

Atari wants to make RCTW a household name, they told is in an interview that they're open to possibly bringing VR into the mix in the right way, letting you ride your rides in a first person and visceral view. There are definitely big plans for the game, and they want to make sure that it's open for beginners and advanced tycoons alike.

Six Flags Virtual Reality Roller Coasters Coming Soon (http://www.hardocp.com/news/2016/03/03/six_flags_virtual_reality_roller_coasters_coming_s oon/)

Why on earth would you wear a VR headset in a real roller coaster (https://www.sixflags.com/national/new-2016)? A roller coaster isn't meant to be used with a VR headset. If you are going to do a VR coaster, why not go the full simulation route?

After a long wait, Roller Coaster Tycoon World coming to Early Access (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/51272/long-wait-roller-coaster-tycoon-world-coming-early-access/index.html)

Atari has finally announced that Roller Coaster Tycoon World, the first of the series to appear on the PC in nearly a decade, will officially enter Early Access on March 30th. It's been a long wait and one fraught with all the dangers that come from letting people play your unfinished game. But it's here, and in fine form too.

<iframe width="781" height="469" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GDl-303a9Qc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When it launches in Early Access the plan is to have quite a bit of content and things that you can mess around with. You'll be greeted with a few different game modes, the ability to create your own wild and wacky rides and have the full management experience. You can even ride your rides in first-person, which might be a very exciting feature with VR in the future. They're fine-tuning the game, so any feedback is still appreciated.

It's been a somewhat rocky road for the developers of the next great roller coaster game on PC. They had several early beta and alpha tests available to fans that were very informative. The reviews of the game on Steam at the moment are of those early builds and are not representative of the work that's been put into addressing the concerns that have been raised. But it's up to you to decide whether it's a genre or game you'd be willing to support. Thus far there have been sweeping changes to the UI and control mechanisms, making it a bit easier to navigate and make the coaster you've been dreaming of. And there's more to follow. Atari has also laid out plans to support the game with free content through 2016.

Throughout 2016, Atari and Nvizzio Creations will be bringing several free content updates - including Piece-by-Piece Coaster Building, Tunnels, Dark Rides, Transportation Rides, Weather and many much more. In fact, in an interview (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/50536/interviewing-developers-roller-coaster-tycoon-edition/index.html) we had with the creators, they stated that there's even a likelihood of finding VR support in the future as well. It's available on Steam for $49.99 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/282560/).
