Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is a surprisingly stout Android handset for the price

Alcatel is using Mobile World Congress to showcase (http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/01/alcatel-onetouch-idol-3/) an affordable and stylish mobile Android solution, a combination that’s surprisingly quite rare in the US smartphone market.
The painfully-named Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 will ship in two different sizes. The first will use a modest 4.7-inch 720p powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC and 1GB of RAM. It’ll carry a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 lens around the back and a 5-megapixel shooter up front. A 2,000mAh battery will keep handset powered through the day.
The larger 5.5-inch variant will come equipped with a 1,080p IPS display and use the more powerful 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (1.5GHz x 4 + 1GHz x 4) alongside 2GB of RAM. Buyers will also enjoy a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel selfie cam and a larger 2,910mAh battery – all packed inside a 7.4mm thick frame.

Both phones include dual front-facing speakers and a unique orientation-free feature that allows users to talk on the handset even if it’s upside-down. The idea is that you can quickly pull the handset out of your pocket to answer a call without having to flip it around and potentially drop it.
The 4.7-inch Idol 3 is expected to sell for just $199 while the larger and faster 5.5-inch variant will command only $249. They may not have top-of-the-line specifications but they aren’t exactly slouches, either. Both will arrive running Google’s latest mobile OS, Android 5.0 lollipop.
Look for both to arrive in Europe this April, Latin America in May and the US the following month.
