Warhammer End Times: Virmintide combat looks satisfying (http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/development/jon-martindale/warhammer-end-times-virmintide-combat-looks-satisfying/)

Games Workshop has a bit of a history of hiring on odd choices or relative unknowns to make its games, but it’s gone a different route with the upcoming Skaven slaughter simulator, Warhammer End Times: Vermintide by having FatShark do it. Although that developer is hardly as well known as some industry giants, it knows how to make a good melee combat game as it previously produced War of the Roses and Vikings, which should make it a good fit for Virmintide.
And judging by the new teaser gameplay trailer released at GDC, it’s getting something right. While we won’t know for sure how impactful or potentially repetitive the combat is in the game, from a quick look it seems oddly satifisying.

It may be the case that even though the weapons look to have a nice weight to them and the ratty enemies crash to the ground with fun ragdoll physics that there isn’t much nuance to it, but considering the important of accuracy in previous Fat Shark games’ combat, I’d like to think not.

Beyond the bloody combat in the trailer, we also get our first look at the HUD, which seems pretty minimal. Players appear to have access to a ranged and melee weapon – with some touting bows and others muskets and pistols – as well as three item slots. Health appears to be the only concern other than that, so presumably there’s no stamina based sprinting in this game.
Environments look pretty nice, with double moons as a backdrop and plenty of dark holes in the ancient wood and stonework, perfect for rodent enemies to come spilling out from.
Warhammer End Times: Virmintide is being developed for Xbox One, PS4 and PC but doesn’t yet have an intended release date.

Warhammer Vermintide Probably Getting DX12 & Mod Support; Consoles To Get “High” Graphics

We’ve reviewed (http://wccftech.com/review/warhammer-vermintide-review-left4rat/) Warhammer Vermintide and even nominated it for Best Coop in our Reader’s Awards 2015 (http://wccftech.com/wccftech-presents-readers-awards-2015/). Now, we have reached out to Fatshark’s CEO Martin Wahlund in order to learn more about the future of the game. Here’s part one of the question & answer session.

Do you have any plans to release mod tools on PC, just like Left 4 Dead?
We have no plans yet but we have discussed it a lot and it is something we will look into at least. We are really big fans of the modding community so I would expect us to do something. However, there is no timeline yet.

Are you considering whether to add DX12 support to Warhammer Vermintide on PC, or will you wait for your next game?
Yes DX12 support will probably come at some point even for Vermintide but for sure for our next game, whatever that might be.

What kind of graphical settings are you targeting for the console release? Is PC ‘High’ a good guess?
We are still doing a lot of testing and optimizations, so I don’t dare to target any specs yet. I think PC ”High” would be a good guess with some tweaks though.

As a reminder, “High” on PC isn’t the highest graphics setting, since there’s “Extreme”. Check back for the full interview on Warhammer Vermintide tomorrow.

After yesterday’s tease, here’s our full interview with Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund about the future of Warhammer Vermintide. In case you want to learn more about the game first, please check our review (http://wccftech.com/review/warhammer-vermintide-review-left4rat/) of the PC version; as a reminder, Warhammer Vermintide is a nominee for Best Coop Game of 2015 in our Reader’s Awards (http://wccftech.com/wccftech-presents-readers-awards-2015/).

When can people expect to see new maps for Warhammer Vermintide via DLC?
Actually quite soon! We are working on multiple updates right now and many of them have new maps. They will be released when we feel they are all done. I expect us to launch the first new maps early in 2016 along with a new wave based survival mode.

Will the game release within the first quarter of 2016 on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?
We try to stick with the idea that we will launch the game/DLCs/versions when we feel they are done. So nothing is set in stone just yet.

What kind of frame rate and resolution are you targeting for PS4 and XB1? Will you be using the newly unlocked 7th core on PS4 and if so, what kind of performance improvements did you get?
We are still playing around so we need to see how it feels with the different resolutions/frame rates before deciding on it.

Warhammer Vermintide seems like it could be a good fit for VR. Do you have any plans to make the game compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or PlayStation VR?
We have actually played around with the game in VR a bit but so far it is more of a fun thing in the office. What we do with it long term is left for debate. http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/simple-smile.png

Thank you for your time.

Fatshark confirms SSAO bug in Vermintide, fix coming soon

In our tweak guide for Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide (http://www.tweaktown.com/guides/7441/warhammer-end-times-vermintide-graphics-performance-tweak-guide/), we uncovered an issue with the Skin Shading graphics option where turning it on or off would also turn Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) on or off. Fatshark graphics programmer Axel Kinner has confirmed to us this is the case while also noting Skin Shading is still controlled by this setting -- it's just a very subtle effect.

http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/9/49520_1_fatshark-confirms-skin-shading-bug-vermintide-fix-coming-soon.jpg (http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=imagescdn.tweaktown.com/news/4/9/49520_1_fatshark-confirms-skin-shading-bug-vermintide-fix-coming-soon_full.jpg)

Kinner says "a fix for this will hopefully be in the next patch". One would think that because both SSAO and Skin Shading are enabled as is, disabling them would net an even bigger FPS increase than normal, but this is not the case right now. As such, when the patch hits, it's unclear what effect disabling Skin Shading will have on performance, but we do know the visual impact will be minimal at best.

Game Mode and Maps Released For Warhammer – Vermintide

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Warhammer-End-Times-Vermintide-16-635x353.jpg
Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide got its second second free DLC today, as well as a new map set in the iconic fort Schluesselschloss.
It’s times like these that make me happy I don’t have to read these things out for radio.
Last Stand is a new game mode where players have to fight hordes of Skaven. The longer you live, the harder it becomes and the more rewards you get to lap up. This free piece of DLC includes a new map, The Town.
Martin Wahlund, CEO of developer Fatshark, said:

“With Last Stand we’re raising the bar a couple of notches – teamwork becomes absolutely necessary to survive. If you thought one Rat Ogre was difficult, imagine them in a tag team.”
Schluesselschloss is an additional Last Stand map, going for $2.99, €2.99 or £1.99. If you own the map, you can invite friends who don’t to play with you.

Oddly enough, Warhammer now has ties with the Eurovision Song Contest. For those of you outside of the Eurozone who aren’t sure, the song contest is how all European countries decide their trade agreements. Score nul points and your people will starve for another year.
It’s deadly serious and not at all a pointless exercise in political grandstanding and odd acts. That’d be stupid.
Swedish pop star Måns Zelmerlöw’s song Heroes can be heard in the trailer for Last Stand. As Rikard Blomberg, CFO of Fatshark, explains:

“I listened to the song while driving, and I kept picturing the Vermintide heroes in front of me. It was simply the perfect song for a trailer. We called the record company the very next day, and my car driving vision became a reality.”

Last Stand and Schluesselschloss are available now (http://store.steampowered.com/app/437070/).
