Find Out How The Xperia Z3 Looks Like Running Android Lollipop In New Video

When it comes to Android Lollipop, almost everyone has gotten the update now. After all its been quite a while since Google launched the update, and by now users of HTC, Samsung, LG and others have been able to upgrade their devices. All except the users of the Xperia Z3, who should be feeling pretty left out by now. Well, a video showing Sony’s flagship running Google’s latest has popped up, so you can take a look at it below to see how the Xperia Z3 looks like running Lollipop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=90Nfi4nqnd0

Sony Xperia Z3 Pops Up Running Android Lollipop On Youtube Sony’s pretty close to update the Xperia Z3 with Android Lollipop, so you’d do better than to lose all hope when it comes for the update to hit your device. Firmware for Lollipop on the Xperia Z3 (http://wccftech.com/lollipop-coming-xperia-z3/) has already gained Wi-Fi Alliance’s certification indicating that Sony is perhaps in the final stages of development of the update for its flagship devices. By the looks of things, the Japanese manufacturer isn’t in that much of a rush to update its devices with Android Lollipop however.
As far as the video above goes, the Xperia Z3 appears to run quite smoothly with Android Lollipop. All of the Lollipop UI’s trademark features, including card based notifications, drop down settings and more are present on the device. The Settings menu, the Music app and the rest also bear Lollipop’s signature, with the whole operation, as highlighted above, running very smoothly indeed. Things move quite fast above, so if you want a detailed look at how the Xperia Z3 looks like running Android Lollipop, you’ll be finding yourself pausing the video at more than one instance. So take a look at the video above, and let us know what you think in the comments section. We’ll let you know when the Lollipop update for the Z3 becomes available.

First Screenshots Of Android Lollipop For Xperia Z3 Are Here As Rollout Starts

Looks like the day is finally here for Sony Xperia users, as the carrier has started to (finally) started to roll out Android Lollipop for Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact in select regions. Sony has started to roll out the update in Nordic and Baltic regions, with the software firmware being build 23.1.A.0.690. The Lollipop update for you Xperia Z3 will depend on your location and carrier, so looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer to be able to enjoy Lollipop goodness on our Sony flagship. Nevertheless, the update brings with it screenshots and we’ve collected and analyzed them for you. So take a look below.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Screenshot_2015-03-16-10-23-21-315x560.png

Android Lollipop Screenshots For The Xperia Z3 Analyzed With Android Lollipop, you can now (finally. .) enjoy all of Google’s Material Design interface and other upgrades on your Sony device. Like us, if you’re waiting for Lollipop on your device then you should be able to pass your time by looking at today’s screenshots. But before we get to them, lets first take a look at what updates Android Lollipop brings to the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. According to a post on the manufacturer’s official blog (http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2015/03/16/starting-our-android-5-0-lollipop-rollout-xperia-z3-xperia-z3-compact/), Android Lollipop brings an entirely new look to the devices and ends up retaining Sony’s “minimalistic” approach towards software as well. Sony also plans to start Lollipop rollout for Xperia Z3 for other markets in two weeks time, so there’s a little bit of more waiting to be done.
Lollipop’s card based notifications style and an updated lockscreen have also made it on board the Xperia Z3. The Settings menu also receives an upgrade with an improved look and Lollipop’s updated multi user interface coupled with a guest mode will also be finally available for Sony’s Xperia Z flagship smartphones. Android Lollipop seems to be limited to the Xperia Z lineup however, so if you’re a non-Z user, there aren’t any plans yet from the manufacturer about your devices. With Android Lollipop you’ll also be able to move apps to and fro from your SD card as well and will be use your Xperia Z devices better at work, with Android for Work. So take a look at all the screenshots from Android Lollipop on the Xperia Z3 (. . finally) courtesy of folks over at XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/android-5-0-l-z3-t2907433) and let us now what you think in the comments section.

Sony Confirms Overheating In Snapdragon 810-Powered Xperia Z3+

Qualcomm (http://hothardware.com/tags/qualcomm) can't seem to catch a break when it comes to its Snapdragon 810 System-on-Chip (SoC) and overheating rumors. The latest to join the fray is Sony (http://hothardware.com/tags/sony) and its Xperia Z3+, along with the Xperia Z4 (http://hothardware.com/news/sonys-xperia-z4-makes-global-debut-as-more-aptly-named-z3), essentially the same handset with a different model number of the Japanese market. Sony has confirmed that both devices can overheat under certain circumstances and has promised a software fix.

Over in the Netherlands, testing has revealed the Xperia Z3+ can overheat when using the camera or playing a game that taxes the GPU. When this happens, the phone gets hot to the touch and whichever app is at fault ends up crashing. Prior to shutting down, however, a message appears on the phone saying warning the user that the temperature of the handset is too high.

image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages/NewsItem/34030/content/Xperia_Z3_Plus.jpg
http://hothardware.com/ContentImages/NewsItem/34030/content/Xperia_Z3_Plus.jpg

Sony acknowledged the issue to a Dutch language website. The Japanese company also promised a software update to fix the issue sometime later this summer. Unfortunately, Sony can't work miracles through software, so the update will likely force the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 to throttle the CPU and GPU more often. Doing so will solve the overheating issue, but it will come at the expense of performance.

This has been an ongoing PR issue for Qualcomm. It's the reason why Samsung (http://hothardware.com/tags/samsung) opted for its own homegrown Exynos 7420 (http://hothardware.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s6-and-galaxy-s6-edge-could-use-newly-announced-14nm-exynos-7-octa-soc) System-on-Chip (SoC) instead for its Galaxy 6 and Galaxy 6 Edge devices (http://hothardware.com/news/qualcomm-shoots-down-overheating-reports-says-galaxy-s6-will-receive-revised-snapdragon-810), and though LG wasn't fazed by the overheating reports, some sites have show that its Flex 2 aggressively throttles to the point where performance sometimes falls below that of a Snapdragon 801 or 805.

image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages/NewsItem/34030/content/snapdragon.jpg
http://hothardware.com/ContentImages/NewsItem/34030/content/snapdragon.jpg

Things came to a boil last month when Qualcomm spoke out (http://hothardware.com/news/qualcomm-fires-back-at-rubbish-snapdragon-810-overheating-rumors) about the overheating reports.

"The rumors are rubbish, there was not an overheating problem with the Snapdragon 810 in commercial devices," said Qualcomm VP of marketing Tim McDonough. "Our point of view is that those rumors happened with the LG G Flex 2 and Qualcomm 810 being first to market with the premium tier application processor. Then somebody decided to put out some false rumors about that, which is unfortunate but sometimes that's how business is done. That has forced us to spend a lot of time address the false rumors."

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Qualcomm has to say about the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4.

Watch Xperia Z3 Outpace Xperia Z3+ And Z4 In Latest Gaming Test

Who would have thought that the abysmal processing state of Snapdragon 810 causes it to trail behind the company’s Snapdragon 801 SoC in various benchmarking tests. When Sony’s Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z4 take their respective chipsets to the benchmarking tracks, which device do you think will come on top? A lot of people would have rooted for Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 given the fact that they both feature a Snapdragon 810, but given below is a video posted (in Vietnamese, might we add) showing how Xperia Z3 is able to deliver surprising results.
http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Sony-Xperia-Z3-635x476.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Sony-Xperia-Z3.jpg)
Xperia Z3 Is Able To Take A Significant Lead Thanks To The Thermal Throttling Friendly Nature Of Snapdragon 810 While Qualcomm has tried to alleviate the overheating and thermal throttling issues plaguing its flagship SoC, Snapdragon 810, devices like Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 are still suffering despite the fact that they are running updated chipset variants. With Xiaomi’s Mi Note Pro (http://wccftech.com/mi-note-pro-reported-suffer-overheating-issues-snapdragon-810/), it appeared that the problems were finally gone (http://wccftech.com/xiaomi-snadragon-810-benches-mi-note-pro-show-good/), at least on the aforementioned smartphone.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/x8BgIB-6NPM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Kudos to the individual who posted up the video (Vật Vờ (https://youtu.be/x8BgIB-6NPM)), where it shows the real world performance tests taking place between Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4. However, the Snapdragon 810 is still able to outclass Snapdragon 801 in synthetic benchmarking results, which is a sigh of relief for those owning current generation flagship devices.

Sony has stated that the company is working on a software update which should remove the overheating problems, but has also advised device owners to perform periodic hard resets in order to prevent their devices from automatically going in to hibernation mode due to overheating. How much is the temperature spiking on Xperia Z4? Prepare to have your jaw drop to the floor.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GiMU7o0vlqk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A video posted by Cellphone S (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiMU7o0vlqk) shows that Xperia Z4 has its temperature spike to a whopping 69 degrees Celsius, which is way above the thermal threshold for regular mobile chipsets.
Let us hope that Sony is able to roll out that software update sooner rather than later, because if this problem persists, then it will spell even more trouble for the Japanese tech company and its plummeting smartphone business.

Developers Can Now Test Android M On Any 'Open' Sony Xperia Device

http://media.bestofmicro.com/F/8/505988/gallery/sony-android-m_w_600.png (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/sony-android-m,0101-505988-0-2-12-1-png-.html)Sony announced that you can now create a test image (http://developer.sonymobile.com/2015/06/22/android-m-developer-preview-available-for-xperia-devices-in-sonys-open-device-program/) for Android M Developer Preview and put that on any Xperia smartphone or tablet that's part of Sony's "Open Device" program.
The list of supported devices includes:

Xperia Z3

Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Xperia Z2
Xperia Z2 Tablet
Xperia Z1 Compact
Xperia Z1
Xperia Z Ultra
Xperia E3
Xperia M2
Xperia T2 Ultra
Xperia T3.

Sony seems to have single handedly vastly expanded the number of devices that can run Android M right now, up from just a handful of Nexus devices that included the Nexus 5, 6, 9 and the Player.
Unfortunately, it's not as clear cut to put Android M on an Xperia device right now as it is to put it on a Nexus, but Sony has provided a list of instructions (http://developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/open-source/open-devices/aosp-build-instructions/how-to-build-aosp-m-developer-preview-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/) for how to do that. Right now, the instructions seem targeted more at ROM developers who want to play with a "stock" Android M ROM on their Xperia devices and perhaps further develop it or submit bugs and patches to Sony. However, once all the kinks are ironed out and Android M is officially released, we may see Sony provide a downloadable version of stock Android M ROM for its "Open Devices."
With the Android M Developer Preview being supported by so many more devices, it could also help those Android app developers who have a supported Xperia device around to test their apps for Android M before it's released. They could see, for instance, how the new permission control system works with their own apps.
Sony's early work on supporting Android M could also put the company ahead of its competitors in officially upgrading its devices with Android M, along with its own customizations on top. Although, whether Sony will succeed in doing that or not will depend on how many resources Sony will dedicate to upgrading its devices to Android M, and on how many extra features it intends to add to stock Android M.

Xperia Z3+ Overheating Causes Crashes In Record Time: 35 Secs

Previously, it was reported that Sony’s Xperia Z3 was able to beat both Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 (http://wccftech.com/watch-xperia-z3-outpace-xperia-z3-z4-latest-gaming-test/) in real world benchmarking tests (though the same victory could not be repeated in synthetic benchmarking tests). Now, we have come to know more about Xperia Z3+ and its abysmal state thanks to the overheating nature of Snapdragon 810 present inside it. Turns out that Xperia Z3+ has its camera application crash and burn (not literally) after running for a period of just 35 seconds. That’s right folks; that has got to be new record set for the time it takes for an app to crash as a result of overheating.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Capture2-635x324.png (http://cdn4.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Capture2.png)
Xperia Z3+ Crashes In 15 Seconds When 4K Or Augmented Reality Camera Mode Is Activated Thanks to a YouTube video upload by Android Pit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=27&v=lkTPq5nvr94), we get to know that the handset is suffering from more than just overheating issues, because the problem has now branched out to pre-loaded applications as well. Naturally, when the user starts to play intensive mobile gaming applications on their Xperia Z3+, they will receive a warning that the device is heating up and further usage may cause the app to crash (which is exactly what happens).
However, crashing also takes place when users fire up the camera app, which takes a total of 35 seconds to crash. However, if users end up becoming far too adventurous with the application, such as switching to 4K mode, or augmented reality, they will quickly find that the app crashing process takes place much faster in contrast.

<iframe width="635" height="388" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lkTPq5nvr94" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<ins data-adsbygoogle-status="done" class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;width:336px;height:280px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5257724448514074" data-ad-slot="4225663910"><ins id="aswift_0_expand" style="display:inline-table;border:none;height:280px;margin:0;padding:0; position:relative;visibility:visible;width:336px;b ackground-color:transparent"><ins id="aswift_0_anchor" style="display:block;border:none;height:280px;margin:0;pa dding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width :336px;background-color:transparent"></ins></ins></ins>In short, thnks to the overheating property of Snapdragon 810, users are pretty much limited when it comes to taking advantage of the superior processing power of Xperia Z3+. Sony has stated that it plans to roll out a firmware update in the near future in order to allay these temperature issues, but sadly, that update cannot come any faster.
The company has also recommended that users perform periodic backups and hard resets in order to prevent their handsets from going to hibernation mode unexpectedly. Oh Sony; why do all the bad things have to happen to you?

Xperia Z3+ And Z4 Teardown Show Both Are Very Easy To Repair

Say what you will about Sony’s flagship smartphones’ processor overheating (http://wccftech.com/xperia-z3-overheating-crashes-record-time-35-secs/) but the latest Xperia Z3+ and Z4 teardown shows that both of these smartphones are relatively easy to repair, which is a really positive thing to. In addition to being aesthetically appealing, both smartphones also possess really impressive camera sensor tech. Let us look at the Xperia Z3+ and Z4 teardown in detail to see what these two mobile powerhouses (overheating mobile powerhouses) have installed under their hood.
http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Sony-Xperia-Z4-Disassembly-_2.jpg (http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Sony-Xperia-Z4-Disassembly-_2.jpg)
Xperia Z3+ And Z4 Teardown Reveal That Components Are Very Easy To Disassemble And Repair According to Xperia Blog (http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/06/29/xperia-z3-plusz4-in-teardown-pics/), Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 teardown reveals that after the hood has been popped open, Snapdragon 810 is taken apart along with other bits and pieces. Not surprisingly, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 are the exact same smartphone, but feature different names. If an individual has developed an astute observation, they he/she will notice that there are few, but subtle differences surrounding the two handsets.

Beginning with the teardown, the lithium ion battery present in both smartphones is extremely easy to remove. In addition to the battery, the remainder of the components are also very easy to remove and assemble once more. According to the website, if owners of both these handsets get their hands on a Philips screwdriver, and perform an Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 teardown, they will find that all it takes is a little patience, and they themselves will be able to post a ‘do it yourself’ video on how to disassemble both smartphones very comfortably.
We have to admit and say that despite the shortcomings of both smartphones, they happen to be one of the simplest handsets to disassemble, teardown and repair. In comparison, handsets like Galaxy S6 Edge (http://wccftech.com/ifixit-samsung-galaxy-s6-teardown/) are much more difficult to teardown. We do hope that smartphone manufacturers have taken note of the Xperia Z3+ and Z4 teardown and hope to bring about future implementations in to future handsets in order to make them easy to repair and teardown as well.

Xperia Z3+ Rated As The Best Camera Smartphone From Sony Yet

Despite the fact that Xperia Z3+ is suffering from overheating issues (http://wccftech.com/xperia-z3-overheating-crashes-record-time-35-secs/) thanks to Snapdragon 810 (which have apparently been addressed by Sony through a software update), Sony does make a great deal of effort in improving its handsets, at least where the camera sensor tech counts. According to the latest report from DxOMark (the company which had released a powerful camera to be mounted on your iPhone 6 (http://wccftech.com/dxo-turns-iphones-camera-dslr-shooter/)), Sony Xperia Z3+ is able to score a very impressive result, both in video and image capturing categories.

Sony Xperia Z3+ Maintains Third Position For Best Camera Smartphone, Trailing Behind Galaxy Note 4 And Galaxy S6 The source (http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/06/30/dxomark-rates-xperia-z3-plus-camera-as-best-xperia-yet/), which is based on camera specialists’ reports, state that after repeated analysis and trial and error activities conducted on major flagship smartphones, Xperia Z3+ was able to obtain an impressive score of 82. Galaxy Note 4 was able to obtain a score of 83, while Galaxy S6 lead from the front, with a dominating score of 86. Despite featuring an 8 MP rear camera sensor, both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were able to receive the same score as Xperia Z3+.
Given below are the details of the camera sensor performance stated on Xperia Blog (http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/06/30/dxomark-rates-xperia-z3-plus-camera-as-best-xperia-yet/):

“On the camera side, the Xperia Z3+ was found to have fast autofocus and good overall exposure, white balance and detail preservation. However, on the negative side, color shading was visible outdoors along with slight color fringing and ringing noticeable. On the video side, the Xperia Z3+ was praised for its stabilization although autofocus was slow in testing.”

While Xperia Z3+ does feature phenomenal image taking capabilities that does not put it out of safe waters that the handset is running a Snapdragon 810. Seeing as how Sony has rolled out a software update to quell these overheating issues, Sony ought to be more careful next time when it comes to choosing a company for incorporating mobile chipsets.
