First Alpha for Eve Valkyrie Requires a Powerhouse PC to Test Out

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/eve-valkyrie-800x456.jpg
Fans of Eve Valkyrie with lower PC specs will be extremely disappointed with the news that the first Alpha for the title will require a powerhouse PC to be able to run it. CCP is reaching out to users with PC that are able to run the title at ultra settings, so if your PC doesn’t meet the required specs, bad luck.

“I can tell you for the first alpha test, it’s going to be quite high,” Sigurdur ‘Siggi’ Gunnarsson, Valkyrie’s lead programmer stated. “We’ve already had to do a lot of optimisation to get the game running, what you see today. But we need to do a lot more before we launch the game. The alpha test’s going to be pretty high spec.”

It isn’t quite clear what type of PCs CCP is targeting, but Gunnarsson stated that users with one of the latest NVIDIA 900 series or AMD 200 series graphics cards will be “pretty safe”. The trailer also provides a bit of a tease for players to go out and spend their money on a new graphics card.
Thank you PCGamesN (http://www.pcgamesn.com/eve-valkyrie/eve-valkyrie-s-first-alpha-test-is-only-for-powerhouse-pcs) for providing us with this information

Eve: Valkyrie Pre-Alpha Registration Ongoing

http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Planetfall-800x425.jpg
The world of virtual reality is ever-expanding and what better way than to have a Triple-A game, released by the Sci-Fi experts over at CCP Games, as a launch title for the Oculus Rift? Earlier this year CCP Games announced that the title was beginning registration for Pre-Alpha for Eve Online and Dust 514 players, the latter being somewhat of an unintentional joke as you can make a free Dust 514 account using your PSN account simply by going to dust514.com (https://dust514.com/). That same pre-alpha registration for Valkyrie is still ongoing bearing in mind that the VR title is slated to require a powerhouse PC to be able to play, as mentioned in a previous article here at eTeknix and as stated by CCP Karuck on the Eve Valkyrie forums:

“We haven’t announced any minimum/recommended specs yet, but due to the incredibly heavy demands VR puts on a system (steady 90 fps at very high resolutions, stereo view) I can tell you the requirements will be higher than EVE’s :)” – CCP Karuck
What is known for certain is that the pre-alpha requires, at a minimum, an Oculus Rift DK2, and given the sheer quality of the gameplay video revealed at Eve Fanfest 2015, it’s no wonder that the game has the hardware requirements that it does, being a VR title.
While Eve: Valkyrie does not have an official release date (based on the Oculus Rift’s consumer version release date), you can still register for the pre-alpha if you have an active Eve Online or Dust 514 account, as well as an Oculus Rift DK2, by going to www.evevalkyrie.com/prealpha (https://www.evevalkyrie.com/prealpha).

CCP Games head thinks we might be overestimating VR (http://www.kitguru.net/channel/generaltech/matthew-wilson/ccp-games-head-thinks-we-might-be-overestimating-vr/)

We might be overestimating virtual reality, according to CCP Games CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson. Those are big words coming from the head of the studio making one of the most promising virtual reality projects so far, Eve Valkyrie.
According to Pétursson, right now “people tend to overestimate what we will accomplish in five years”, however, on the other end of it, they also “tend to underestimate where we’ll be in ten years”. These comments were made at a panel (Via: Venture Beat (http://venturebeat.com/2015/04/30/ccp-boss-vr-is-not-going-to-be-big-next-year/)) at SlushPlay in Iceland recently.
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/eve-valkyrie-e1430739721715.jpg (http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/eve-valkyrie-e1430739721715.jpg)
“3D cards took six years to catch on, and phones took 10 years. I used to go to GDC, and they would say that mobile phones are the future, and it was nothing. Ringtones were a bigger business than games back then. And we sit here and say VR is going to be big next year, and it’s not going to be big.”
After kicking up a storm of hype with the Oculus Rift with the original dev kit, those working on virtual reality have also made various attempts to manage expectations. In addition, Mark Zuckerberg seems to be under the impression that the Oculus Rift won’t be available for consumers this year as there are no large shipments planned for the device at all.
That said, we will apparently see the launch of the HTC Vive, a SteamVR headset at the end of this year.

EVE: Valkyrie demo is six degrees of impressive

We were treated to another snippet of EVE: Valkyrie's VR-infused gameplay at the PC Gaming Show last night, and it's pretty awesome-looking. Check out the video:

Oh boy. I have to get one of those VR headset thingies—and another GPU. Attendees were given a chance to prove their worth in the cockpit, too, and our lord commander Scott was quite moved:

As you can see from the video, the game is a team-based space dogfighting affair set in the EVE Online universe. Players can choose from a multitude of ship classes for different combat roles, each with customizable loadouts. New ships and equipment can be unlocked by way of a rank progression system.
EVE: Valkyrie will support both the Oculus Rift and the PS4's Project Morpheus headsets. Oh, and if the voice in the video was familiar, yes, that's Katee "Starbuck" Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica fame.

Palmer Luckey, the Founder of Oculus VR, said:

EVE: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development. It perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming, shooting you into a sci-fi adventure as you pilot a spaceship in search of combat. Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we’re excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere.
The Oculus Rift is still pinned for a Q1 2016 release at the moment, so that’s when EVE Valkyrie should hit. The game, a multiplayer dogfighting shooter spin-off of EVE Online, is also being developed for PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support. Here’s a list of its main features:

Intense team-based multiplayer dogfights
Fully immersive 360-degree action combat
Rank and reputation-based character progression
Change strategies on the fly with loadouts and ship-swapping
Unlock and customize advanced ships, weapons and equipment
Choose between different ship classes, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and role to play on the battlefield

Are you excited about VR finally hitting early next year? Tell us in the comments.

'EVE: Valkyrie' Available As Pre-Order Bonus For Oculus Rift

http://media.bestofmicro.com/M/9/545121/gallery/Explosionz_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/Explosionz,0101-545121-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)The hype for VR continues to rise, and if you were lucky enough to try out the Oculus Rift in recent months, one of the most prolific demos on the VR HMD was CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie. Even though we don’t yet know the exact release date for the Oculus Rift, the company wants fans to know that the device will have enough content at launch, so it’s including the final version of EVE: Valkyrie with every pre-order of the Oculus Rift.
The deal is exclusive to Oculus, even though we’ve seen the game demoed on other VR HMDs such as PlayStation VR. So far, the demo has been the same experience for quite some time: Players take the pilot’s seat of a fighter ship and then launch into space. After a few minutes of getting used to the controls and flying with a squadron, the first wave of enemy ships arrive. Taking them down isn't difficult, but the tide of battle turns with the arrival of the Avatar, a Titan-class ship.
However, the pre-order announcement came with another trailer, this time showcasing various segments of space combat.

EVE: Valkyrie December Pre-Alpha Footage

If anything, the partnership is sure to raise the popularity of one of the most notable VR companies in the industry. The EVE universe is one of the most popular franchises in gaming and attracting a new audience outside of EVE Online would boost CCP Games’ profile as well as Oculus’ launch date appeal.
Those with Oculus DK2 units can sign up on the EVE: Valkyrie (https://account.evevalkyrie.com/signup) page to register for a chance to participate in pre-alpha testing of the game before its launch in Q1 2016.

EVE: Valkyrie Testing Begins This Month, New Screens Released

http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/eve-vr5-635x357.jpg (http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/eve-vr5.jpg)
The developers behind VR game EVE: Valkyrie will open their consumer testing programme later this month.
On the heels of the Oculus Rift pre-orders, CCP Games announced that players will be able to get into the alpha phase from January 18th. New players will be admitted in waves at some point before the first test.
EVE: Valkyrie will put you in the cockpit of a spaceship in an intense multiplayer dogfight. The developers have built it from scratch with VR in the mind, and no doubt the level of their success will be all over the internet in the coming months.
Owners of the Oculus Rift DK2 headset will be able to register their interest in the testing program here (https://account.evevalkyrie.com/signup).
Access to EVE: Valkyrie will be bundled with all pre-orders of Oculus Rift, so take out that mortgage now if you fancy taking control of your very own space vehicle. The consumer version of the device will cost $599 USD and willl also include an Xbox One controller, an Oculus remote, a mic, a sensor and a copy of Lucky’s Tale.
Console owners will be happy to know that EVE: Valkyrie is also set to be a launch title for PlayStation VR.
To celebrate the announcement, the developers released a handful of new screenshots to show how close you’ll be to the action.

'Eve: Valkyrie' Alpha Opening To More Players On Monday

http://media.bestofmicro.com/D/2/503318/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie_w_600.png (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie,0101-503318-0-2-12-1-png-.html)
CCP has been alpha testing the online multiplayer mode of its Oculus Rift launch title, EVE: Valkyrie. On Monday, the company will release the game to a new group of early testers. If your PC is up for it, you’ll likely be invited.
The signup page for access to the multiplayer alpha (https://account.evevalkyrie.com/signup) of EVE: Valkyrie has been open since November, but to date, few people have gained access to the game. CCP has been very selective with invites to the early test of the game so far.
Tom’s Hardware had the chance to catch up with CCP at the Oculus booth during CES 2016. Adam Kahn, CCP’s Senior Director of Communications, informed us that on January 18, the company will be granting access to the alpha test to a much larger group of testers.
Kahn told us that if you signed up with a Rift DK2 serial number, and your computer meets or exceeds the necessary specifications (https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/) to run the game, you should be granted access to the multiplayer test next week.

Virtual Spaceships: First Look At CCP's 'EVE:Valkyrie' Multiplayer Alpha

http://media.bestofmicro.com/U/S/554500/gallery/screenshot_dogfight_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/screenshot_dogfight,0101-554500-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)CCP’s upcoming space dogfighting game, EVE:Valkyrie will be one of the games that launches with Oculus’s Rift VR HMD later this year (preordered Rifts include a copy.) If you’ve been paying attention to the development progress of the Rift headset, then you’ve likely encountered EVE:Valkyrie on some level already.
A Bit Of History CCP was one of the first developers to back the Oculus Rift Kickstarter campaign, and it quickly put together the EVR tech demo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjhyRkAlK5I&ab_channel=badrien1122) using EVE Online assets. The company first showed the demo to fans at Eve Fanfest in April of 2013, and by August, the EVE: Valkyrie announcement trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmNQEiJUthc&ab_channel=CCPGames) was released.
Over the course of the past two and a half years, CCP has shown the game in various stages of progress, but always more or less the same demo; a single player experience fighting against AI enemies that ends when you inevitably meet an untimely death.
EVE:Valkyrie was originally slated for release in 2014, but with the Oculus Rift unreleased, CCP kept working on the game. During EVE Fanfest 2014 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EwQWb5IAD4&ab_channel=EVE%3AValkyrie), CCP showed a pre-alpha build of the game that showed a close representation of what EVE:Valkyrie has since evolved into, but it was the version shown at EVE Fanfest 2015 that really got people excited. This is also when CCP first opened up signups for the pre-alpha multiplayer test, though the company allowed only a select few in.

<iframe width="550" height="310" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DZ4gpjwJa08" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

EVE:Valkyrie Pre-Alpha

In the fall of 2015, CCP announced that it was opening up the alpha test signups, but it didn’t say when people would be invited in. Slowly over the last couple months, the company has invited a select bunch of people to play the game, but this week it launched the actual alpha test and sent invites to much larger group of players. CCP told us that anyone with a system that meets the requirements, and that owns an Oculus Rift DK2, should get access to the game.
CCP is running the alpha test on North American and European servers 24/7 for the duration of the test period. The released build is limited to the multiplayer aspect of the game, with the exception of the first training mission. CCP left this in so that you can accustom yourself with flying and shooting before jumping in to a live match, but the main reason for the alpha is to stress test the servers and hash out any bugs while playing against other people.
Inside The Game When you first fire up EVE:Valkyrie, you’ll find yourself inside a very different kind of landing screen. It’s a perfect match for a VR game, and it shows that CCP has really been thinking about VR intelligently. If you look down, you’ll notice that even in the menu, you are positioned in your avatar. The pilot character is sitting down, going through options on a tablet that appear as holograms in 3D in front of you.
To access an item, you look directly at it, which is the natural thing to do anyway, and a dialog box will pop up displaying an A button symbol. Press the button, and you’ll be transported to the new screen. All of the items appear in 3D space -- nothing is on a 2D plane. You’ll see 3D representations of the ship you select floating in front of you. The menu options float in space in front of the ship hologram.
On the main menu screen, you’ll find the basic buttons, such as Close, found by looking down to the left, and Settings, which is down to the right. Pilot stats and Hangar are located between Close and Settings. Starting in the upper left side and leading to the right, you’ll find Training, Squad, Chronicles, Combat, and Quartermaster. That may seem like a lot of menu options, but there really aren’t that many things to change.
http://media.bestofmicro.com/M/9/545121/gallery/Explosionz_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/Explosionz,0101-545121-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)In the Settings menu, you can change the graphics options from Low, Medium, High, and Epic. My test system, an Intel Core i5 4570k with 8 GB of DDR3-1600 RAM and an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC (which basically matches Oculus’s minimum specifications for a Rift), auto-detected the Epic preset. There are no advanced settings to change, so we don’t know what graphics options change between presets, but it would appear the game can run on lesser hardware.
The Pilot page shows the lifetime stats of your profile. Here you can see what your XP level is, how many kills, deaths, and assists you’ve achieved, and your average kill to death, as well as win-to-loss ratios. The page also lists how many battles you’ve had, how many of those were won, and how many were lost, and even the number of hours you’ve played the game.
The Squad menu is where you set up a party of friends to play with. You can only invite friends to be part of your squad, though. The Quartermaster menu doesn’t have a lot in it right now. Three options inside it simply say “Coming Soon.” The only one that works is the Customize Fleet section. Here you can apply skins and decals to your ships. It takes silver credits to buy customizations, which are earned by playing matches.
The Chronicles menu is where you’ll find the single player mission in the final game, but in the alpha test none of these missions are active. There are five missions listed, which appear to be the same maps as the online game: Shipyard, Necropolis, Forge, Cathedral and Convoy.
The Hangar menu is where you will find your available ships. When you first start the game you are given a ship, the Wraith. This ship’s stats are: Firepower, 25; Shield, 110; Armor, 225; Speed, 200. The rest of the ships are locked to new players. You have to earn XP points to unlock better options. Once you’ve earned 18,000 XP, you’ll unlock the Dominator and the Heavy Tree. The Accord and Support Tree unlock at 52,000 XP, Assuage is available at 110,000 XP, and the final ship, the Aegis, unlocks at 173,000 XP.
During the alpha test, the first two ships can be unlocked, but the rest aren’t available. I haven’t yet earned 18,000 XP, so I don’t know what the stats of them are. Those details are hidden until you earn the ship.
Figuring It All Out You’ll want to start off with the training mission before jumping into battle. I had the chance to try a new build of the single player demo at CES this year, but even I felt like I should brush up on my flight skills. The training mission has you fly through a series of hoops (anyone remember Pilot Wings 64?) to hone your maneuvering skills. Once you’ve flown through the hoops, there are a few enemies to practice your aim on.
http://media.bestofmicro.com/U/T/554501/gallery/Planetfall_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/Planetfall,0101-554501-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)
Navigating a space ship in VR is pretty easy if you are used to playing games in first person. It’s really a natural step further into the immersion of the experience. To fly, you use the joysticks on an Xbox controller. The left stick controls the direction your ship's nose is pointing, and the right stick will roll it. The A button is warp drive, the shoulder buttons will aid with turning quickly, and the d-pad releases drones in one of the two game modes.

Shooting your cannons is done with the right trigger, and your left trigger controls the homing missiles. This is where your head really comes into play. You need to look directly at your target and follow it as you hold the trigger down. This engages the target lock. If you don’t keep your gaze on the enemy ship, the missiles won’t lock on, so you do have to actively look around the canopy of your ship to play the game effectively.
Looking around freely actually makes it easier to navigate. If you really were a fighter pilot, then you’d be looking all around anyway. That’s one of the reasons a real jet canopy has such wide open views. Being able to look where your opponent just darted off to is a major advantage for a game like this.
Combat Zone After getting acquainted with the Wraith, I left the training zone and entered the Combat menu. Here you can access the squad menu again, and a new option, Launch Tubes. The Launch Tubes didn’t do much when I looked at them, but I suspect it will come in handy when you have several ships unlocked. To me, it appears this is to be used as a loadout setup. There are four tubes to fill, but with only one ship, it doesn’t do much good. http://media.bestofmicro.com/D/2/503318/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie_w_600.png (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie,0101-503318-0-2-12-1-png-.html)
There is a timer on the right that will be counting down if you aren't inside one of the two menus in the screen. You don’t have any control over when it will launch, and it often starts seconds after getting into this screen. When the timer hits zero, the battle will start. The game goes black, and the sound stops completely at this point. It takes my computer three or four seconds to load the next screen. I actually thought it crashed the first time I did this, but it will eventually load into the match.
In the new room you will find yourself sitting in, you’ll see other player’s avatars around you in a round room. On either side of you, you’ll see a hovering list of the players from each team. Directly in front of you will be the ship selection options. If you have more than one ship, you can cycle through them from here. After a short timer counts down, the screen will fade away, and when it comes back, you’ll be sitting in the cockpit waiting to be fired out of the launch tube. A few seconds later you’ll be in live combat.
Round One: FIGHT! Playing online against other players is very similar to the single player experience I was shown earlier this month. Real players are a little bit tougher to handle, but the essence of the game is the same. In both situations, I found the experience to be exhilarating, and the action gets intense very quickly.
It takes some time to get used to the dogfighting experience. Expect to die several times before you get your first kill, but when you do, oh boy, the satisfaction! I’ve played 10 matches and logged a little over an hour in the game, so far, and I’m only just now starting to get the hang of things. This is definitely a game you can pick up and have some fun very quickly, but it will take many hours to become a master.
The game reminds me a lot of Unreal Tournament the way it plays. You and a team fight in a fast-paced death match scenario against a competing team. When you die, which you undoubtedly will do many times, you respawn a few seconds later and join the fight again.

<iframe width="550" height="310" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/s8neeNyyAEY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Eve Valkyrie Dev Battle

There are two different scenarios, but both of them are very similar. You will either be playing straight death match, where you just need to kill the enemy as much as possible. Each team has a finite number of “clones” for respawn, and when they are depleted, the other team wins. The second scenario incorporates capturing key landmarks from the other team. Rather than simply getting more kills, the winning team has to capture items and fend off the enemy.
For each match, you will earn XP points. For a kill, you’ll get 100 points, and an assist earns you 50 points. I’ve never successfully captured anything, so I’m not sure how many points you get for capturing enemy property. Most matches end with players earning less than 1,000 points, many earning far less. It takes some effort to unlock those first two ships at 18,000 XP. I can't imagine how long it would take to unlock the Aegis.
You also earn silver credits for playing matches. These credits come from the salvage that you collect while fighting. Any time any enemy ship is destroyed, fragments of “salvage” are left behind, and you earn silver for all the debris you collect. It’s not hard to earn a few thousand silver in a single match.
Thoughts EVE:Valkyrie is turning out to be every bit the game I have been hoping it would be. To me, this is the perfect expression of what a VR game should be. There are few other scenarios that fit as perfectly in VR as a space combat game. The ability to look freely around your cockpit and fly around in a full 360-degree spherical battle arena is something that you just can’t get without virtual reality.

The game isn’t complete yet, but it’s clear that CCP is in the final stages of development. This will be a popular title, and not just because early adopters are getting the game for free. If you have a Rift on order, you should be excited for this game.

I look forward to spending time with the final build of EVE:Valkyrie while using the retail version of the Rift. For my test purposes, I only had access to a DK2, and now that I’ve tried the final product (the CV1), it’s really hard to go back.

'Eve: Valkyrie' Alpha Player Stats Reset, New Build Released

http://media.bestofmicro.com/P/J/558199/gallery/VALKYRIE_w_600.png (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/VALKYRIE,0101-558199-0-2-12-1-png-.html)
CCP’s Eve: Valkyrie Alpha test phase officially began on January 18 (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/eve-valkyrie-alpha-expanding-monday,31018.html) and had been running 24/7 since it launched. Last night that ended when the company shut the servers down for an hour while it installed a new build of the game.
CCP announced that the newly installed build of Eve: Valkyrie is the response to the feedback the company has received so far about the game. CCP said it “implemented a number of changes to progression, ships, game balance and matchmaking” into the current release.
In my hands-on report of the Eve: Valkyrie alpha (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/eve-valkyrie-alpha-first-look,31059.html), I noted that it takes a lot of effort to accumulate the credits needed to unlock the various ships that are available to choose from. It appears I wasn’t the only one to point this out. CCP said it “reduced the amount of time it takes to unlock the Spectre, Banshee, Rhino & Guardian.” The cost of items and the amount of XP needed to level up has also been reduced.
CCP said it noticed the comments in its forums regarding the missiles in the game. In response to popular concerns, the company opted to make it easier for skilled pilots to avoid being hit. The turn radius, max speed, and acceleration rate of the missiles has been reduced. To balance the less accurate shots, reload speed has been increased slightly. http://media.bestofmicro.com/P/I/558198/gallery/BlueHue_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/BlueHue,0101-558198-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)
Changes have been made to the ships in the game as well. CCP said the Dominator is now more viable for damaging armor, rather than shields, though the company said it “is still viable against shields.” CCP made the same change to the Accord, in addition to a bug fix that addresses a projectile collision issue. The Assuage's EMS got an upgrade, too; it now needs fewer hits to disable an enemy ship. CCP has also reduced the power of the Aegis flak cannon. It does less overall damage now, and the explosion radius has been reduced.
Each individual ship received some tweaks, but the ship categories have also been adjusted somewhat. The Heavy class ships have received a decrease to their armor and shield levels. CCP said it added a minor damage buff to all Heavy class ships to compensate the lowered defenses.
Support class ships have also been tweaked. In the prior build, if an enemy was targeted by the support class buff beam, it took severe damage. In the latest build, enemies will still take damage, but not at the same rate as they did before. The buff beam that heals friendly armor has received a minor reduction. CCP said it also fixed an issue regarding heat loss per second with the Phaser weapon. http://media.bestofmicro.com/P/H/558197/gallery/screenshot_flakcannon_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/screenshot_flakcannon,0101-558197-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)
CCP said that it has “implemented a skill-based team balancing” mechanism into the game, though it gave no details about this system, only stating that more information is forthcoming.
As part of today’s maintenance, the servers have been reset. All player stats have been wiped, and everyone starts from the bottom again. For those that joined the Alpha late, this is the perfect chance to get in while the playing field is even.
If you have access to the alpha, you’ll have to download the latest client (https://account.evevalkyrie.com/download) install from the Eve: Valkyrie website. (https://www.evevalkyrie.com/)

CCP Games Shows Launch Trailer For 'EVE: Valkyrie'

http://media.bestofmicro.com/6/K/569180/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie-Founder-s-Pack_w_600.jpg (http://www.tomshardware.com/gallery/EVE-Valkyrie-Founder-s-Pack,0101-569180-0-2-12-1-jpg-.html)
One big selling point for the Oculus Rift was CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/eve-valkyrie-alpha-first-look,31059.html), which put you in the cockpit of small ship fighting in the deep reaches of space. In fact, the game was one of the free titles included with a pre-order of the VR HMD. Still, that didn’t stop the game’s development team from releasing a launch trailer for one of the most highlighted VR titles in Oculus’ catalog.
The launch trailer is full to the brim of outer space dogfights. Aside from enemy ships, you’ll also have to dodge some bombs and even fly through the interiors of certain ships. Just like in CCP Games’ flagship title, the MMO EVE Online, your character doesn’t technically die in the game. Instead, its consciousness is transferred to a clone, along with all of the previous clone’s memories and experiences. You’re literally learning from past mistakes.

EVE: Valkyrie Gameplay Launch Trailer

In addition to playing the game in VR, you’ll also have some input into the next steps of development for the game’s creators. Owen O’Brien, the game’s executive producer, released a roadmap of future updates (https://trello.com/b/ntwJqCHC/eve-valkyrie-roadmap) for the game, such as improvements to the heads-up display, new maps and even a new game mode called “Carrier Assault.” However, there was another tab for potential ideas, and players can vote on which feature they’d like implemented into the game. Fans can also send in ideas for EVE: Valkyrie via the game’s forums.
Even though all of the Oculus pre-orders will include a copy of EVE: Valkyrie, the trailer is another effort from CCP Games to persuade customers to not only get the game, but the accompanying Rift HMD as well. The game will also be available for PlayStation VR, but that doesn’t come out until October (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/sony-psvr-playstation-vr-399,31420.html). The game is priced at $59.99.
