Lenovo's ThinkPad 10 tablet looks like a Surface 3 in a suit
Lenovo launched a bunch of new mobile systems this week, including a Win10 tablet that looks poised to take on Microsoft's Surface 3 (http://techreport.com/news/28044/microsoft-unveils-atom-powered-surface-3-tablet). Like the latest Surface, the ThinkPad 10 is based on Intel's 14-nm Atom processor, otherwise known as Cherry Trail. Buyers will be able to choose between two quad-core variants: the x5-8500, which tops out at 2.24GHz, and the x7-Z8700, which peaks at 2.4GHz.

The ThinkPad is also a smidgen thicker and heavier, at 9.1 mm and 1.4 lbs.
Many of the other key specs are identical. Both systems are available with 2GB or 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal flash. They have USB 3.0 ports and Micro SD slots, as well, but there are differences in the video output department. While the ThinkPad 10 offers a Mini HDMI port, the Surface goes the Mini DisplayPort route.
Wireless flavors abound, including optional 4G connectivity. Speaking of options, the ThinkPad can be paired with a stylus, two different keyboards, and a docking station, among other accessories. The keyboards are priced at $109-119, while the stylus adds $40.
The tablet itself will start at $549 when it's released later this summer. That's $50 more than the Surface 3, which seems a bit steep given the base specifications. The business customers Lenovo is targeting may be inclined to pay the premium, especially given some of the tablet's optional security features.
