Out this week

Sony spin-off Vaio is set to release a new Windows 10 smartphone this week.

According to Mynavi.jp (http://www.mynavi.jp/) Vaio is holding a press conference to announce the new phone on February 4.

Executives from both Microsoft and Vaio are expected to attend, including Takuya Hirano, the president of Microsoft Japan. A spokeswoman for Vaio in the United States confirmed the announcement, but declined to provide further details.
So given that, it is likely to mean that Vaio is jumping on the Redmond bandwagon.
Vaio is associated with Android OS but has never became a big name.
Microsoft has already launched the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL as its own flagship smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile. However it has not done that well and Lumia sales have suffered.
It is not really clear why as there is some interest from other suppliers and hints that the OS might do well. It is possible is that Microsoft can’t sell its own Lumia phone, but is hoping that third party types might do a better job.
Vaiois the second big name to enter the market for third-party Windows phone hardware recently. Acer is already in the market with products being shown off at CES.
The OS itself is pretty good and it would be good to have a PC friendly OS which can kick Google and Apple in the bottom line.

VAIO Phone Biz Is A Surprisingly Handsome And Aluminum-Clad Windows 10 Mobile Smartphone

All signs point to Microsoft (http://hothardware.com/tags/microsoft) putting Lumia (http://hothardware.com/tags/lumia) brand out to pasture following the release of the Lumia 650 later this month (http://hothardware.com/news/final-lumia-phone-tipped-for-february-1st-unveil-as-surface-phone-waits-in-wings). Microsoft’s flagship Windows 10 Mobile (http://hothardware.com/tags/windows-10-mobile-) smartphone duties will reportedly be transferred over to the Surface team (http://hothardware.com/news/microsoft-cmo-confirms-engineering-effort-on-surface-phone-a-spiritual-equivalent-of-surface-tablet), which has built quite a reputation for itself with swanky hardware like the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. In the mean time, we’ve got a fresh entry into the Windows 10 Mobile field, and it comes from an unlikely source. The VAIO brand is back with a vengeance, and it is entering the phone business with… the Phone Biz. We’re still scratching out heads as to why VAIO went with Windows 10 Mobile, which is treading water in the low single-digits in global market share (http://hothardware.com/news/satya-nadella-acknowledges-microsofts-unsustainably-low-smartphone-share-and-lack-of-elite-developers), instead of the vastly more popular Android operating system; but I digress.
The Phone Biz actually makes for a decent mid-range smartphone with its 5.5-inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC with 3GB of RM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for expansion purposes. You’ll also find a 13MP rear camera, 2800mAh battery and of course LTE, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

It should also be mentioned that rather than the plastic commonly found used for the bodies of Lumia smartphones, the Phone Biz ups the ante with an aluminum unibody which is quite an eye-catcher. Like the Lumia 950 (http://hothardware.com/tags/lumia-950) and Lumia 950 XL (http://hothardware.com/tags/lumia-950-xl) Windows 10 Mobile flagships, the Phone Biz fully supports Continuum (http://hothardware.com/tags/continuum) which turns your smartphone into a facsimile off a full-fledged Windows 10 PC when hooked up with the Microsoft Display Dock.
There’s no word on if the Phone Biz will make its way to U.S. shores, but it will launch on Japan’s NTT Docomo network unlocked for around $400 in April.
