    CD Projekt RED will release Cyberpunk 2077 and another AAA RPG by 2021

    Not content with having totally redefined the RPG genre with The Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED is already laying out its plans for the future of RPG greatness.


    In a recent earnings call, company president Adam Kicinski highlighted CDPR's development strategy for 2017-2021. This multi-year roadmap not only includes the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, but also a brand new unannounced AAA RPG whose details are pretty much unknown.

    Since the timeline is a full eight years after the release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, listeners speculated that CDPR's new AAA RPG could be for the upcoming next-generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox Two consoles. Kicinski wasn't able to comment on this, saying that the plans of new consoles are "closely guarded secrets", and that he had no clue what Sony or Microsoft are planning.

    Cyberpunk 2077 is 'bigger, better, more revolutionary' than Witcher 3

    CD Projekt RED promises that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to eclipse The Witcher 3 in every possible way--a feat we didn't know was possible.





    Cyberpunk 2077 is the most ambitious project that the Polish devs have ever taken on, and CDPR has taken many opportunities to open up about the game's depth. At a recent earnings meeting, company president Adam Kicinski and studio head Adam Badowski said that Cyberpunk 2077 will be "even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary" than The Witcher 3.

    All of that effort will take time, however, and Badowski says that the studio still has "a lot of work to do", and Cyberpunk 2077 is "still a long ways away from the premiere". CDPR is taking their time to make the game as amazing as possible, stating that the darkly futuristic game will be absolutely huge and push the bar even higher.


    CDPR's ambitions are so large that the studio plans to double its development workforce to about 800 people to adequately prepare for Cyberpunk's release. The dev staff will be split into four different teams where they will "penetrate new gaming segments"

    According to a development roadmap outlined during the call, Cyberpunk 2077 has been given a release window of 2017 to 2021, followed by a brand new unannounced AAA RPG.

    The studio will also release an "experimental" game in 2016 built on ideas that "no one's done before", so it's fair to say that the Polish dev team has their work cut out for them. We can't wait to hear more about the new trio of games, and we might get some new info at E3 2016.

    Cyberpunk 2077 to Be “Better, Bigger, More Revolutionary” than Planned


    Cyberpunk 2077 – the hotly-anticipated game, based on tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020, currently in development by The Witcher 3 makers CD Projekt RED – has already been proclaimed as “far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt RED has done before,” and a recent sales call by the company suggests that the game is set to be even larger than anticipated.
    During its 2015 financial results conference, CD Projekt RED President Adam Kiciński and Studio Head Adam Badowski discussed the on-going development of Cyberpunk 2077 and, while Badowski confessed that the studio was “a long ways away from the premiere” of the game, he revealed that it is set to be “even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary” than initially planned (translation courtesy of DualShockers).
    To facilitate the magnitude of the task, CD Projeckt RED has announced that it is to more than double the size of its development team. In a press release, the company said:
    “The Witcher 3 set the bar high and provided a reference point for our future growth. We continue to develop and strengthen global brands by exploiting our proprietary technologies and drawing upon our accumulated know-how. Our team of experienced, talented and passionate professionals is fully capable of creating a videogame from scratch – starting with a fresh concept, then proceeding with development and marketing activities, and finalizing the project with global distribution. Thanks to GOG Galaxy, GOG.com is also opening a new chapter in its history.”
    CD Projeckt RED reported revenues of 798 million PLN (£146m) and profits of 342.4 million PLN (£62.6m)

    The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has proved to be one of the most critically and commercially successful games released on eighth-generation platforms, and this accomplishment only strengthens developer CD Projekt RED’s commitment towards delivering something even better and exceptional with its long-gestating sci-fi action role-playing title Cyberpunk 2077. The upcoming game might still be “a long ways away” from its release, but with the developer now working on a “far bigger” scale with this “even more ambitious” project, you can expect some “f**king great” stuff from CD Projekt RED soon.

    With immense fan approval and critical acclaim, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is apparently one of the best games of all times, and all the awards that it received along with being crowned as the best game of 2015 by many translate into more work for CD Projekt RED. The developer is well aware of the pressure and expectations that fans have built, and besides following up on The Withcer 3: Wild Hunt, the team is putting all its efforts together to deliver “something great” with its upcoming highly anticipated, long-in-development sci-fi RPG known as Cyberpunk 2077. Speaking to GameSpot at Game Developers Conference 2016, CEO CD Projekt’s co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski said:
    “Right now, we have the success of the Witcher 3; people played it and people loved it. So it’s even more responsibility. The fact that Witcher 3 performed so well allows us to be even more ambitious with Cyberpunk 2077. Right now, it’s on our shoulders to deliver here. The next time you hear about Cyberpunk 2077 we will show something and it must be f**king great.”

    When asked if the development team was excited to move on to Cyberpunk 2077 after delivering a whole new level of awesomeness with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Iwinski said, “they definitely are.” “After a decade working with dragons, swords, and medieval themes, the team is feeling energized to work on a project involving guns, ammo, mutants, and implants,” he further explained. The upcoming game is set in completely different environment than The Witcher 3 and offers a wide new range of elements.
    CD Projekt RED has emphasized the ambitious nature of Cyberpunk 2077 time after time, saying that the game will be “even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary” than what the developer originally had planned. The sci-fi RPG was originally announced back in 2012, though the developer has not released much official details or any gameplay footage yet. Despite being in development for years now, Iwinski explained that the game is still “a long ways away” from launch and that the team still has “a lot of work to do” to make it a “truly outstanding game.”

    CDPR: Cyberpunk 2077 Will Take as Much Time as Needed, We Want To Make It Huge; We’ll Stop Here for a While


    CD Projekt RED is known as the developer of The Witcher series, particularly because of the third installment which recently became the most awarded game ever made (that includes our own Awards, of course).
    However, almost four years ago they announced another game, Cyberpunk 2077. Based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, this will be a triple A action roleplaying game with full character customization, a non-linear story and different character classes to choose from.
    Little else is known about it, but now that The Witcher 3 is almost done (the last DLC, Blood & Wine, should be released soon) CD Projekt Red is entirely focused on Cyberpunk 2077, at long last.
    CD Projekt RED’s CEO Marcin Iwinski was interviewed by Gamespot in their podcast “The Lobby” and he made that very much clear. While the Polish studio has been approached about making games in other IPs, they refused.
    We had a lot of these discussions, but I think we have enough on our plate right now. What we do requires 100%, actually 200% commitment. We are not into buying and owning IPs just for the sake of buying and owning them.
    We actually were approached by a lot of people with really cool IPs that we love to make a game, but we said “Hey, if we do something we have to have full creative control, we have to own the IP”, but again, for the sake of full creative control. Cyberpunk was a choice from the heart, I think also it was just good karma because we just had a great opportunity to acquire the rights, but I think we’ll stop here for a while.

    We are committed. We’ll take as much time as needed and we want to make it huge. That’s what’s on our mind.
    If we invest into something, and I’m talking about investing our time, we have to focus because we cannot do it right if we’ll do even two or three things at the same time. It’s just not possible and it’s really regardless of how many people we have on board. It’s a mentality thing, a little bit like Rockstar – why there isn’t a game [from Rockstar] every single year? There is a reason for that.
    You can have a different model, the FIFA model, the Call of Duty model, the Assassin’s Creed model, but I don’t think it’s our model.
    Interestingly enough, maybe CD Projekt’s success affected Ubisoft in its decision to discontinue the Assassin’s Creed yearly model.
    Cyberpunk 2077 is clearly their focus now and Managing Director Adam Badowski recently said that the gameplay premiere isn’t far off either, possibly hinting at a reveal during E3 or Gamescom this year.

    Aparentemente, a empresa quer deixar na lama e esquecimento um achievement brutal que foi o The Witcher 3.
    Ainda ando pelo Fallout, e ja tenho esse ali, que é o próximo. Cyberpunk vai ser mesmo muito bom, ou o The Witcher não é assim tão bom?

    O Witcher 3 é um dos jogos mais premiados dos ultimos tempos, por isso é muito bom.
    Parece-me é que querem ainda fazer melhor com este jogo.

    Pessoal, pra quem ainda não entendeu muito do jogo eu vou deixar aqui uma lista de coisas confirmadas para o jogo!


    • Game is FPS perspective
    • FPS perspective made to feel more personal
    • RPG with Shooter Elements not a Shooter with RPG elements
    • Multiple different progression systems (Skills, Perks, etc.)
    • V, protagonist - urban merc/hired gun.
    • Full character creation system (Gender, Looks, Lifepath/Backstory)
    • You DO NOT pick classes in the beginning, class system is fluid based on choices
    • Dystopian Cyberpunk future shown in sunlight on purpose. Full Day/Night Cycle. Noir themes bleed through environment and aesthetic
    • Characters from Cyberpunk 2020 lore will appear
    • Netrunner Techie and Solo are main focused classes
    • You can combine classes
    • Optional classes exist (like Rockerboy and Corporate) and you can pull perks from them to add into your own custom class
    • Story and quest system from Witcher 3 is implemented into Cyberpunk similarly.
    • Choice and consequence is HUGE. Emphasized that the game is an RPG first and foremost
    • Story is personalized by player choice.

    • Weapons - 3 branches - Power Weapons (heavy hitting/stagger), Tech Weapons (penetrating through cover), Smart Weapons (tracking/following)
    • Vehicles - Motorcycles, Cars, hinted at flying cars.
    • V is a fully voiced character. Both Male and Female completely voiced.
    • V's personality is shaped by player. Backstory and interactions shape V's personality.
    • Cyberpunk is a dark dystopia in the same vein as Witcher 3 being Dark Fantasy
    • Details of the world - everything has a purpose. World design was a huge focus in setting the tone.
    • Night City - in between SF and LA (fictional city). Inspired by both cities.
    • 6 unique districts in the city. Each area has its own feel on top of the base Noir feel
    • Exploration is encouraged.
    • Witcher was horizontally huge, Cyberpunk is vertically huge.
    • You can enter buildings, Mega Buildings exist as well with multiple floors and multiple areas to explore within a single building.
    • No level scaling. 2 forms of XP - Core XP - Main Missions and Street Cred - Side missions
    • Higher Street Cred opens new exclusive vendors and fixers (new jobs)

    O único jogo que me deixa minimamente hype após ter passado a obra de arte que foi the witcher 3 (melhor jogo para mim). Contudo conhecendo a empresa até estar um grande produto não sairá. Ou seja, não conto com o jogo tão cedo por ai...
