Xbox 360 Emulation Just Made a Huge Advancement!

Emulation of Xbox games was near impossible, although many attempts have come close to something that almost works, nothing has really been playable. The Xbox 360 has suffered a similar fate, with its odd hardware setup proving complex to emulate over the years; until now.
Xbox 360 Emulator “Xenia” has been in development for some time, but it’s just taken a huge leap forward in terms of usability in what could be the opening of the flood gates for improving the software, bringing more games into its compatibility list.
Ben Vanik, creator of Xenia, has released a new video of the emulator running A-Train HX at a steady 60fps, albeit with a few of the graphical shaders missing, hence the extensive glitches. This demonstration isn’t about the graphics though, it’s about getting the CPU/GPU core emulation right and so far, it looks like Ben is making some very impressing progress.

Microsoft Enables Xbox 360 Game Streaming For Windows 10

Just days after Microsoft announced that Windows 10 supports Xbox One streaming, word is coming that Windows 10 also supports Xbox 360 game streaming via the Xbox One. That follows Microsoft’s announcement that that the Xbox One is receiving backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360.

As we mentioned earlier, Microsoft has an impressive UI revamp in the works for the Xbox One. It will come out toward the end of this year, likely around the Windows 10 launch, at which point you’ll have access to the Xbox 360 game streaming functionality. The holiday season is shaping up to be a big one for Microsoft’s gaming and operating system properties. (Sadly, a holiday arrival of the HoloLens doesn’t seem very likely.)

One caveat here is that Xbox 360 games that make use of Xbox hardware like the Kinect will likely not be compatible with the Xbox One. And it’s not clear that Microsoft will make all of the older games compatible. The differing architectures between the game systems has presented some challenges for Microsoft, which hoped to get the backwards compatibility out earlier.

Right now, Microsoft is taking user suggestions for Xbox 360 games that it should build into the Xbox One’s compatibility list here. Red Dead Redemption is leading the pack at the moment, with Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Skyrim filling out the top three.

Former Microsoft exec Peter Moore recounts the Red Ring of Death chaos

Peter Moore, former Microsoft corporate VP of the Interactive entertainment business and now Chief Operating Officer at Electronic Arts, recently recounted the horrific times caused by the Xbox 360 "Red Ring of Death."

Issues related to the RRoD cost Microsoft more than $1 billion, and left many gamers frustrated. Despite strong global sales of the Xbox 360, it was a constant headache for Microsoft and a number of their frustrated gamers.

"We were seeing failure rates and starting to get reports through customer service. This was a thing where we couldn't actually figure out what was going on," said while speaking to IGN in a recent podcast interview.

"We knew we had a problem. I remember going to Robbie Bach, my boss, and saying, I think we could have a billion-dollar problem here. As we started to do the analysis of what was going on, we were getting the defectors in, it was a challenging problem for our engineers, and we couldn't quite figure out what it was. We knew it was heat related. There were all kinds of fixes. I remember people putting wet towels around the box."

Ultimately, after informing then-CEO Steve Ballmer about the problem, things got underway as quickly as possible to sort out the heat issues. It was a moment where Moore and other executives wondered if the Xbox brand would survive the high-profile problem.

Did you ever suffer a Red Ring of Death?

Peter Moore Reveals the Life-Time Cost of Xbox RROD

While many of us will remember the Xbox 360 as the console that cemented Microsoft’s reputation, others will recall the Red Ring of Death or RROD that plagued nearly 25% of the consoles. In a recent IGN podcast, past Xbox head Peter Moore revealed that the total cost to Microsoft to fix the issue cost $1.15 Billion USD at the time. It’s key to note that at the time, the Xbox division was still in the red despite its success so far against the PS3.
Internally, Microsoft knew that something was off when it started hearing back from customer service and receiving the defective units. As we now know, the issue was heated related and due to the new lead-free solder. As the engineers and Xbox team worked on the issue, it became apparent that to fix and replace all the defective units, it would cost about $1.15 billion. Moore went to the then CEO Steve Ballmer with a plan to ship with Fed Ex and quickly replace the units. In his words, this is how it went:
“Steve said, ‘okay, talk me through this.’ I said, ‘if we don’t do this, this brand is dead. Steve looked at me and said, ‘what have we got to do?’ I said, ‘we’ve got to take them all back, and we’ve got to do this in a first-class way,’ because when you take a console away from a gamer, and you’re going to spend three weeks fixing it… so we’ve got to FedEx this all the way. We’ve got to FedEx this all the way. We’ve got to overnight it back in two.”
Upon hearing the billion price tag though, Steve Ballmer didn’t flinch. In Moore’s words, there was no hesitation. Microsoft needed to act fast and decisively to save the Xbox brand name and ultimately, we got the Xbox One, which might not have happened if the Xbox 360 had tanked with the RROD. Given how the Xbox brand is today, gamers really do appreciate firms that can provide good customer service and address issues head on. It’s important to note though that Microsoft still took a while to address the RROD.

Xbox 360 Class Action Lawsuit Could Go to Supreme Court

Disgruntled Xbox 360 users, pushing for a class action lawsuit for over three years due to claims that the console scratched discs inserted into its optical drive, have gotten one step closer to court. A ruling on Monday by the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals means that the case will either go to litigation or a hearing in the US Supreme Court.
Microsoft has continued to refute the allegation, claiming that any scratches to discs were a result of customer misuse, rather than defective Xbox 360 consoles. The company has also cited the precedent of Gable/Wolin vs Land Rover, a case accusing the automobile manufacturer of producing vehicles with alignment problems that caused tire to wear out prematurely. The class action suit against Land Rover was dropped, and Microsoft believes that the similarity between the two cases should force the Xbox 360 class action to be dropped, also.
Judge Martinez, however, disagreed, seeing little similarities between the two cases. “Judge Martinez concluded that the presumption had not been rebutted because the Gable/Wolin Land Rover litigation was distinguishable from the scratched disc litigation,” the court document reads.
The next step is to prove that a flaw within the Xbox 360 console caused discs to become scratched:
“[…] although individual factors may affect the timing and extent of the disc scratching, they do not affect whether the Xboxes were sold with a defective disc system. Plaintiffs contend that (1) whether the Xbox is defectively designed and (2) whether such design defect breaches an express or an implied warranty are both issues capable of common proof.”
Up to 55,000 complaints have been made to Microsoft regarding discs suspected to have been scratched by the console’s optical drive.
Thank you IGN for providing us with this information.

Edit: melhor. Os 12 monkeys correram o jogo a partir do HD e disseram que drive estava boa.....................................

Xbox 360 Turns 10; Former Product Officer Marc Whitten On Its Legacy, RRoD & More

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 turned 10 overnight, and former Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten, has shared his enthusiasm for the console that launched back in 2005.

Whitten left Microsoft back in 2014 to join wireless speaker company Sonos. “I have had the extreme pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community,” said Whitten back in March of 2014.
In the US, the Xbox 360 launched on November 22, 2015. Other country’s followed some weeks later, with the exception of Australia and New Zealand, where it was released in March of 2006. The 360 was the successor to Microsoft’s original Xbox, and has sold incredibly well – even outselling the Playstation 3 for a very long time. The console is considered being one of the best consoles of all time.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Xbox 360, and former chief product officer Whitten has taken to Twitter to share his enthusiasm and some facts about the console.

Supreme Court to hear Xbox 360 disc scratching case

Back in the day, the Xbox 360 had a few issues, not only were red rings of death a problem but at one point, discs were being scratched as well. A lawsuit that launched nine years ago over scratched game discs has now escalated to the US Supreme Court, where the justices will decide whether or not Microsoft should face a class-action lawsuit.
The people involved in the lawsuit are alleging that Microsoft had a design defect in the Xbox 360 that led to discs being scratched and potentially ruined. The case has gone through a lot of appeals but has not yet reached the trial stage.

As Polygon points out, back in 2012, a federal judge ruled that there were not enough complaints to warrant a class-action suit against Microsoft but this was overturned in 2015. Testimonies in the case claim that Microsoft was aware of a disc-drive defect that could cause damage if the console was repositioned in a certain way by users. Apparently solutions were discussed at Microsoft but nothing ever became final.
The case also alleges that Microsoft had already received 55,000 complaints about disc-scratching as early as 2008.

Tive dois Need For Speed Most Wanted que se partiam ao tirar da caixa. E não, não era brutalidade, eram mesmo os discos que eram mais finos e frágeis que os demais. Se encontrar a foto que a loja tirou, depois posto.

No, Microsoft isn't shutting off Xbox 360 servers this year

The rumor mill is responsible for churning out some pretty alarming stuff, and the recent gossip made us instantly grab our salt-shakers. Apparently, there's a rumor that Microsoft is going to shut off the Xbox 360's servers this November, forcing gamers over to Xbox One. This prompted the big-wigs at Redmond to step in and squash the hearsay once and for all.

In a recent Tweet, Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirms that Microsoft has absolutely no plans to shutter the Xbox 360's servers in 2016. The exec delivered a short but sweet "not true" in response to the allegations, smashing the fears of last-gen gamers. Additionally, we have to wonder why Microsoft would yank Xbox 360 online multiplayer considering its invested so much in the Xbox One's backward compatibility function.

    dave OE downard @0RIGINALENERGY
@XboxP3 no no no it cant be true! Microsoft that say that sometime in November 2016, the xbox 360 live servers will be closed down! :,(

    Follow
    Phil Spencer @XboxP3

    @0RIGINALENERGY Not true.

Furthermore, the Xbox One's backward compatible games are cross-play. So if you fire up an Xbox 360 game on the Xbox One, you can play with other Xbox 360 players. Given this, it's extremely unlikely that Microsoft would be decided to abruptly shut off online play for last-gen systems. At this point, the Xbox 360 and its expansive library of games are bolstering the Xbox One and bear in mind that last-gen gamers are still out there (myself included).

This isn't to say that Microsoft won't one day shut off the Xbox 360 once and for all. We just know that it won't be in November 2016.

I hope the day doesn't come anytime soon, or even in the life cycle of the Xbox One, but it would be an ingenious way to force other players to the new console.

Plus, we have to wonder if the Xbox One's Xbox 360 backward compatible games would even be playable online once the last-gen servers go down.

Xbox 360 Lawsuit Judge Owned Stock in Microsoft

A class action lawsuit launched by Xbox 360 owners who suffered ruined discs due to a fault within the console is moving to the US Supreme Court, which prompted the presiding Chief Justice John Roberts to sell between $250,000 and $500,000 in Microsoft stock, rather than excuse himself from the case over a conflict of interest, the Associated Press reports.
Since it is a violation of Federal law for a judge to preside over a case involving a company he or she own shares in – and, so, is given the option to sell their shares or excuse themselves from the case – the matter has encouraged debate over whether judges should be allowed to own shares in major companies to start with, or be allowed to sell their shares in order to remain a case.
“We’re not talking about grandpa’s stock in the family business where a justice might have some sentimental reason for holding onto the shares. These are major corporations who regularly come before the court,” Arthur Hellman, a specialist in judicial ethics at the University of Pittsburgh, told the AP.
Last October, Chief Justice Roberts presided over an appeal against Texas Instruments, which was being asked to contribute funds to clean up hazardous waste it was accused of being responsible for. Roberts, who denied the appeal, was involved despite owning between $100,001 and $250,000 shares in Texas Instruments. Kathy Arberg, a court spokesperson, admitted that Roberts’ involvement was a mistake.
