    Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide Announced, Coming This Fall

    2K Games and Firaxis Games today announced Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide, the expansion pack for 2014’s turn-based strategy title, Civilization: Beyond Earth. Created by Firaxis Games, Rising Tide promises to enhance the Beyond Earth experience by adding a variety of new gameplay capabilities and providing near limitless ways for players to create a new future for humanity on an alien planet. Rising Tide aims to expand Beyond Earth to new frontiers on the planet’s surface and across its seas, adding more choices and diplomatic options as players build “one more turn” toward a new vision for humanity’s future. New aquatic gameplay will explore the oceans for colonization by dramatically extending the play space, while an overhauled diplomacy system will provide players with additional layers of dynamic choices and options to shape the diplomatic landscape while engaging with the AI and one another.
    Sarah Anderson, SVP of Marketing at 2K, said:
    “Firaxis Games has an impressive track record of delivering robust and innovative expansions that radically change player experience while adding extensive replay value. Rising Tideis no exception, offering new features and overhauled gameplay systems that will challenge players embarking on a quest for planetary domination.”
    Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games, added:
    “Rising Tide builds upon the lore of Beyond Earth, breaking away the historical boundaries of the original franchise and furthering mankind’s search for a new home in outer space. Whether colonizing the planet’s oceans, acquiring new Affinities or meeting exotic new leaders, aliens and units for the first time, Rising Tide offers more ways for players to write their own stories on a new world.”
    The expansion pack is currently scheduled for release in Fall 2015.
    Here are the key features of Rising Tide:
    • Building floating settlements and accessing natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet, while alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge players in distinctive ways;
    • Shaping the diplomatic landscape by upgrading traits, changing diplomatic relationships, and leveraging the benefits of your allies, all with political capital;
    • Unlocking a dynamic set of Diplomatic Traits while activating different combinations in response to the changing world;
    • Playing as one of four new factions, including the Al Falah, a group of nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states;
    • Investing in multiple Affinities to unlock hybrid Affinity units and upgrades for the first time;
    • Collecting and combining alien relics via a new Artifact System that unlocks powerful benefits;
    • Exploring one of two new biomes, Primordial world, an untamed biome rife with volcanic activity and indicative of a chaotic landscape still forming in the new world.

    Civilization só rende com expansão e patches em cima. Foi assim com o anterior também, portanto isto é boas notícias para quem for comprar depois.

    O que dizes é verdade. Mas o Civ 5 sem os DLCs até era jeitoso.
    Este Beyond Earth foi um passo atrás em vários campos. O jogo é tão fraco que neste momento tem apenas 2163 jogadores por dia em média.
    Quando foi lançado, chegou a ter 86747 jogadores, ao mesmo tempo. O que lhe deu um dos lugares de topo nos jogos mais jogados no Steam nesses primeiros dias.
    Depois foi sempre a descer, até chegar a estes valores. Tendo em conta que é um jogo AAA, com uma boa campanha de marketing e muito hype entre os jogadores de PC, este resultado é muito mau.
    Hoje, o Civ 5 ainda é um dos 10 jogos mais jogados no Steam.

    'Civilization: Beyond Rising Tide' Expansion Shows Off Aquatic Settlements, New Factions

    At E3, we were treated to a video showing a gameplay demo of Rising Tide, the new expansion to Civilization: Beyond Earth. We weren't allowed to take photos at the time, but 2K and Firaxis Games finally made it public for fans who couldn't make it to E3.
    As the title suggests, the expansion will focus on using the alien planet's oceans as another place for your new colonies as well as new areas of resources. This means ocean variants of certain units such as Explorers and Colonists. Naval Explorers can now find artifacts on the ocean floor, which provide a quick boost in resources or can be combined with other artifacts to help create new structures or aquatic-based Wonders for your new sea-based city.

    Civilization: Beyond Earth Rising Tide Gameplay E3
    The developers haven't completely forgotten about the land-based game in Rising Tide. Coastal cities now have more structures to fully exploit aquatic resources, and there's even a new volcanic-based biome called Primordial that includes new alien lifeforms both on land and sea, such as the Scarab swarm, which can be tamed and aid your exploration efforts. You might also have to clear certain parts of the ocean of hostile aliens. Doing so might spark retaliation from local wildlife in other parts of the area.
    The demo was played with one of the expansion's new factions, called Al Falah. Unlike other groups, the Al Falah faction traveled through space without the help of cryogenics, so its people know how to work with very limited resources, giving the group an advantage in city processes.
    Players can also expect improved information on other factions in the world, such as being able to see the overall relationship between other groups. This will come in handy during negotiations as well as war efforts.
    It's just a taste of what we can expect from the game's first expansion pack. Civilization: Beyond Earth was a first for the series in that it put players outside of Earth and into unfamiliar territory by way of alien planets and mechanics. Rising Tide seems to continue that trend, and we'll know whether it succeeds or fails when it comes out later this fall.

    New 'Civilization: Beyond Earth: Rising Tide' Video Shows New Environment, Political Tactics

    Civilization: Beyond Earth Rising Tide Features

    Details about Rising Tide, the first expansion for Civilization: Beyond Earth, are slowly trickling out of the developers at Firaxis, with the latest video showing off a new environment, factions, and a focus on the political aspects of the game. New Places, New People

    Whereas the game's previous teaser video presented the Primordial volcanic biome, the opposite end of the spectrum has been revealed, showing off another barren, yet freezing tundra biome. The cold landscape doesn't offer much in terms of resources, but if players can overcome the odds and build a thriving empire, they will be able to find vast artifacts and other rewards.
    In keeping with the game's story of civilization leaving Earth's uninhabitable environment due to The Great Mistake, the new factions are the latest arrivals to these alien worlds, and as such are already used to life on the high seas (because of Earth's rising tides).

    These include the North Sea Alliance, led by the Scotsman Duncan Hughes, which arrives with colony ships that can establish settlements on either land or sea. Another faction, the German-based political party INTEGR, led by Lena Ebner, focuses on sustainability and the diversity of resources to survive. Her people focus more on the necessary resources at hand, rather than living the extravagant lifestyle that led to the demise of their home world.
    The Negotiation Table

    War is usually unavoidable in any game of Civilization, but that doesn't mean there's no additional room for politics. The latter half of the latest teaser focused on the diplomatic side, displaying new improvements when dealing with internal affairs or meeting with the other superpower on your planet.
    Traits can now be chosen for your leader that will suit your playstyle. If you want to win by force and need heavy production, your leader can have the Ambitious trait, increasing the production speed of units. If impressing others with Culture is a better route, a leader can have the Enlightened trait, which adds a boost of Culture points with each structure. Additionally, traits can also be provided to your economy, infrastructure and military, giving each part a potential boost against other nations in the area.
    Agreements are now part of negotiations, allowing nations to provide their services in exchange for another civilization's services or resources, which would otherwise be unavailable. If you so happen to be the top dog amongst your peers, that can be used against other leaders during deals, as they have a growing Fear of your power. With Fear, you have an easier time getting the most out of trades and other Agreements. However, abusing that power can lead to other nations conspiring against you, potentially leading to all-out war.
    On the other hand, that same power can be used to create Respect. Negotiating terms that play into the other leaders' traits won't be rewarding in the short term, but it can lead to a more friendly relationship down the road, opening the way for better trade negotiations.
    Not Over Yet

    Many players still haven't made the jump from Civilization V to Beyond Earth, and so Firaxis made the game free-to-play on Steam starting on August 13 at 1 pm EDT and ending at 1 pm EDT on Monday, August 17.
    There's more to learn from the latest expansion of Civilization: Beyond Earth, with another video on the way soon. For now, you can test drive the game before buying it this weekend and see if it's attractive enough to warrant a purchase of Rising Tide when it comes out October 9.
