Microsoft Makes A Much Better YouTube Search Engine Than Google

It might be difficult to overthrow Google’s YouTube as the undisputed champion of online video searches, but software behemoth Microsoft has just found a way to threaten that spot by improving the video search capabilities of its search engine, Bing. Microsoft executed the finishing touches of its Bing video search feature just this week, and we have to say that the final product looks immaculate. If you intend on using the search engine in the foreseeable future, then boy does Microsoft have a few amazing surprises to completely bedazzle you.

Microsoft Has Increased Video Thumbnails, Increased Helpful Related Search Suggestions, And Much, Much More

According to the information present on Bing Blogs, the following changes have been made to give the video search engine a proper makeover.
    Bigger Images

We increased the size of the video thumbnail in our search results, giving an expanded view of the video and making it easier to find the video you want to watch.
    More information before you watch

Additional information has been added to the video search page like channel, upload date, and view count.

    Advertisements

    “Hero” answers for songs

When you search for a song, we display an enlarged thumbnail image, or “hero”, for that song. The hero is chosen based on the top result and relevance to your search. The hero video will play in place or you can click through to the source of the video to watch it there.
Related searches are easier to explore

All of the related searches have been moved inline with your original search, so as you scroll through the page you’ll have some ideas of what to search for next to help refine your search results. When you hit the bottom of the page, you’ll get even more suggestions and the option to see more video search results. These updates improve touch-friendliness and scale better to tablets and other smaller screens.
Perhaps the biggest change out of all of them happens to be grabbing results from places not featuring the YouTube URL. While Google’s own video search tool on google.com delivers an abounding number of results from multiple sources, the feature is outdated and lacks several others which are present in Bing’s latest update.
We are confident that Google will not be taking this change lightly and in the foreseeable future, we might see a string of changes on the advertising giant’s video streaming website.

Bing predicts all six group winners of the Women's World Cup

Sporting events provide a platform for Bing to show off its predicting power. We usually highlight how well they do at predicting events and the Women’s World Cup is no exception. Bing has continued on its streak of correctly predicting large portions of sports playoffs that includes the NBA Playoffs, Cricket World Cup, and more. The Bing Blog reports their prediction success.
Bing accurately predicted thirteen out of sixteen advancing teams including all six group winners. Their predictions also included correctly picking twenty-one out of thirty-six matches.

After the matches that have already been played, Bing has recalculated and has some minor changes for their remaining predictions of the Women’s World Cup. They had to make some changes because the way that the playoffs ran out the teams that were facing each other changed making their previous predictions physically impossible. They still have Germany being the champions of women’s football in a final match against England. The US and Brazil are predicted to be third and fourth place respectively.

Remember the Old Classic “Snake” Game? It’s Back, Now on Your Browsers

Do you often get the cravings of playing the old classic Snake game? Microsoft understands your cravings and is bringing back the game right to your browsers. Almost all of us got hooked to the Snake game on our first Nokia phones. It was easy to get addicted to it considering the fact we didn’t really have millions of choices that smartphones now offer to us.
Snake on Microsoft’s Bing search engine:

Microsoft is making it easier for you to play this game by offering you it directly on your browsers, precisely in its Bing search engine. All you need to do is, head over to Bing.com and search for Snake game or bing snake. You will then be able to play the game directly from the search results page. Easy and fun way to get the old memories back. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to play the game.
However, not all users can apparently play it as the game is not available in all the regions as yet. I had to use a proxy to get access to it, but totally worth it! If you are a fan of this game, enjoy the old classic on Bing. Let’s see how the new kids feel about this decades old game.

Microsoft adds 35,000 live traffic cameras to Bing Maps

Microsoft may have just given millions of people a reason to use its own mapping solution. That’s because the Bing Maps team revealed in a blog post earlier today that it has added more than 35,000 real-time traffic cameras across 11 countries to Bing Maps.
To access the cameras, you’ll first need to enable the Traffic layer on Bing Maps. Once enabled (also make sure that the Cameras slider is in the “on” position), simply zooming in a bit on major roadways will surface viewable cameras (designated by small camera icons). To view a camera’s feed, click on the icon.
If you want to check out more than one camera at a time, just click “return to summary” and you’ll be presented with an overview of recently viewed cameras.
Microsoft has been sprucing up Bing Maps over the course of 2015 via multiple feature additions. In July, the Redmond-based company introduced a major visual overhaul of Bing Maps (via a preview phase) that more closely resembles Google Maps (that’s not a bad thing). And just last week, Microsoft added new transit features to make it easier to plan commutes for those that rely on public transportation.
Traffic cameras certainly aren’t anything new and in this day and age of navigation apps, one could argue that they’re a bit archaic. Then again, live traffic cams offer a quick and true assessment of roadways that doesn’t rely on algorithms or other data which isn’t always entirely accurate.

Bing Keeps Growing As Google Declines YOY

If the data mentioned in this article is accurate, Bing is the only search engine that hasn’t stagnated.

Reaching 20 percent in the search business was clearly an important achievement for Microsoft, but at the same time, Google also lost ground in the last few months. While it had flat performance in the last couple of months, Google is now at 63.9 percent, down from no less than 67 percent a year ago, and there's no doubt that Microsoft is also partly responsible for this decline.

Should Google Be Afraid? Microsoft’s Bing Search Engine Grows to Record Level

Microsoft is pretty much the only company in the search business that can compete against Google at the moment, and the fast pace at which Bing grows these days shows that the software giant has all the reasons to be optimistic in the long term.
Redmond revealed in its Q2 FY2016 financial report that search advertising revenues excluding traffic acquisition costs grew 21%, citing Windows 10 as one of the catalysts for this important increase.
Bing is the default search engine in Windows 10 and Edge browser (the default browser of the operating system) while also powering digital assistant Cortana, which is available on both PCs and smartphones powered by this OS release.
“With search, the clearest indicator of our progress is US search share, where Bing now exceeds 21%. Nearly 30% of our search revenue in December came from Windows 10 devices, partly as a result of user engagement with Cortana. We are seeing increased search engagement and monetization on Windows 10 over previous versions,” Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella explained in a conference call with investors following the earnings report.
Continued growth in the next quarters

Furthermore, Nadella explained that the company expected this growth to continue in the next quarters, but what’s more important, “Bing will continue to gain share and will remain profitable.”
Translate this to figures and you get a few more percentage points for Bing, so Microsoft’s search engine could very soon get closer to the 30 percent threshold in this particular business that has until now been dominated by Google.
The latest statistics provided by US market research firm comScore show that Bing has reached a market share of 21.1 percent in December while Google continues to lead the market with 63.8 percent. But the good news is that Bing actually managed to improve its share by 0.2 percent while Google lost 0.1 percent. Yahoo is third on the list, but far behind with just 12.4 percent.

    Boa noite,

Constatei agora... O BING JÁ TEM SUGESTÕES EM PORTUGAL! Milagre! Vou a pé a Marte! A Microsoft a lançar funcionalidades fora de US e UK? Ainda devo estar num sono profundo só pode! Agora falta lançarem o resto das 1001 funcionalidades que o Bing americano tem.

    Cumprimentos.
