Intel 16C/24T “Alder Lake-S” CPU engineering sample is faster than Core i9-9900K

Since Geekbench does not have an official ranking page for its V4 (Version 4) scores, median results were used from the software’s public database (for both single-core and multi-core). This method is not an ideal solution, but it should be accurate enough to see where this Alder Lake-S CPU stacks up at this stage. With a single-core score of 6436 points and a multi-core score of 47870 points, the 12th Gen Core CPU is already faster than Core i9-9900K in both benchmarks. The sample is also faster than 10900K in the multi-core benchmark, but the Comet Lake CPU still has a 5% lead in the multi-core test. Unfortunately, there are no 11900K Geekbench V4 benchmark results yet that could have been used for comparison.
The performance is likely to increase with ES2 (second revision engineering sample) and later with the retail unit. However, it remains to be seen how much more frequency will still be added to the 16-core and 24-thread Alder Lake CPU.

First Comprehensive Review of the Core i7-11700K (ES) Surfaces

Lab501 posted the first comprehensive review of an Intel Core i7-11700K "Rocket Lake-S" engineering sample. The ES has clock speeds matching the rumored clock speeds of the retail version, and should give you a fair idea of how the finished product should perform. The i7-11700K, which is an 8-core/16-thread chip, was tested to be being consistently behind the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X in synthetics such as WPrime, rendering tests such as Blender, video-encoding tests such as Handbrake, and was negligibly trading blows with the 5800X at gaming ±1%. The chip does post leads over the previous-gen i7-10700K in all these areas, though.

Performance aside, the Core i7-11700K is shown to have significantly higher power draw, with the whole-system power draw being 27% higher than a 5800X-based whole-system, when measured using Prime95 (which only adds a CPU load). In a real-world scenario such as gaming, where GPU power draw is added, this whole-system power draw percentage difference should come down. Interestingly, the i7-11700K isn't a "hot" processor, running up to 18°C cooler than a 5800X under Prime95 load. Check out this, and other invaluable early insights into "Rocket Lake" by hitting the source link below.

Intel Rocket Lake-S to be available on March 15th

Intel would launch its 11th Gen Core series codenamed ‘Rocket Lake-S’ on March 15th. Intel has only so far confirmed that the series will be introduced in the first quarter, but the availability was not expected till early April. The new information would apparently suggest that the launch of the new series will happen sooner by at least two weeks.
Intel has already launched 500 series motherboards with full support for Rocket Lake-S CPUs and PCI Gen4 for GPU and fast NVMe storage.

Alder Lake-S on 10n Enhanced SuperFin in December
HKEPC also confirmed that the announcement of the 12h Gen Core series would happen in September, as reported earlier. However, the actual launch would not happen till December.
Additionally, the site confirms that the Alder Lake-S series will be based on 10nm Enhanced SuperFin, instead of ‘just’ 10nm SuperFin architecture. This would mean that the CPU would be more power-efficient than the Tiger Lake series, based on the less-advanced node. It is worth noting that Intel already confirmed that Alder Lake will feature 10nm ESF architecture, back in January.

Golden Cove 20% IPC gain over Willow Cove
The 12th Gen core series are based on Intel Hybrid Technology, which means that the CPU will utilize high-efficiency (small) and high-performance (big) cores, similarly to ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. According to the report, the big cores (Golden Cove) would offer a 20% IPC gain over Willow Cove (available in Tiger Lake series). It is also mentioned Gracemont would offer similar IPC to Skylake, however, it is not clear if they mean similar efficiency or its increase over the previous series. Overall IPC increase is expected to be around 16 to 18%, presumably over Rocket Lake (based on Willow Cove spin called Cypress Cove).
Intel Alder Lake-S will require new motherboards with an LGA1700 socket. This is necessary as the platform shifts to DDR5 and PCI Gen5 interfaces. The competition from AMD may be slightly delayed till 2022, the site further claims. The AM5 based motherboards would too support the DDR5 memory.

Google's Leaky.Page PoC is a Spectre V1 gadget that is a JavaScript array that is speculatively accessed out of bounds

Google has published their proof-of-concept code showing the practicality of Spectre exploits within modern web browsers' JavaScript engines. The code is out there and you can even try it for yourself on the leaky.page web-site.

Google's Leaky.Page code shows its possible to leak data at around 1kB/s when running their Chrome web browser on a Skylake CPU. The proof-of-concept code is catering to Intel Skylake CPUs while it should also work for other processors and browsers with minor modifications to the JavaScript. Google was also successful in running this Leaky.Page attack on Apple M1 ARM CPUs without any major changes.

Google also prototyped code capable of leaking data at a rate of 8kB/s but with lower stability. On the other side, they have proof-of-concept code using JavaScript timers that can leak at 60B/s.

Google's Leaky.Page PoC is a Spectre V1 gadget that is a JavaScript array that is speculatively accessed out of bounds. While the V1 gadget can be mitigated at the software level, Chrome's V8 team determined that other gadgets such as for Spectre Variant 4 to be "simply infeasible in software" for mitigating.

More details on Google's latest Spectre findings via the Google Security Blog. The proof-of-concept Spectre code can be found at leaky.page.

This week meanwhile the W3C published an editor's draft of web developer recommendations around Spectre.
Um exploit a correr num browser e sem hipóteses de ser mitigado por software....
