Leonard Nimoy, Mr Spock From ‘Star Trek’ Dies Aged 83

Leonard Nimoy, the actor famous for playing Mr Spock in the iconic Star Trek, has died at age 83. He died of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to his son, Adam.
Nimoy captured the hearts and minds of generations for his role in Star Trek, playing a half-human, half-Vulcan character. He was famous for his catchphrase “live long and prosper” and the hand gesture seen above.
Poignantly, he effectively bid farewell via Twitter, on February 23rd he posted “A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory.”

Star Trek Online Memorial to Leonard Nimoy

The Star Trek Online community and their developers truly know how to pay tribute and respect to those that have helped it to even exist.

A memorial to Leonard Nimoy will be erected on Vulcan to honor the life of Leonard Nimoy.

An unofficial gathering of over 1000 players in the game traveled to the planet Vulcan in order to pay their respects. While the people were broken up into separate instances of around 15 or 20 or so, the total population of players was around 1000 total. A Reddit user, MrMorlonelycat was able to take a very telling screenshot of players lined up around a monument taking a moment of silence.
In response to the overwhelming gathering, Star Trek Online developer, Cryptic Studios, has decided to erect an official monument to honor Leonard Nimoy. The monument will appear on March 5th as part of the regularly scheduled maintenance. The executive producer of the game, Steve Ricossa, said that this is a way to keep his memory alive.

“In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts, LLAP.”

Leonard Nimoy has had a profound impact on a lot of lives, even those that aren’t even interested in his works. He also was able to provide narration for the Star Trek Online MMO and even helped to introduce it at a ceremony in August of 2008 in Las Vegas.
While it may seem a bit silly in nature, the gesture itself is very well intended and speaks to how we deal with loss. We valued his, and all, life and sometimes we may need a way to express that. Even games can provide that outlet, and Star Trek Online recognizes that, even though the active player base may not be that high. It’s a fascinating and most heartwarming gesture. Even though it’s an MMO and a game, it’s rather fascinating, and very much logical.
Live long and prosper, old friend.

'Adventure Time' movie on the way

Now in its sixth season, the crazily irreverent Cartoon Network animation 'Adventure Time' has only become increasingly popular as audiences embrace the show in the millions weekly, and gobble up all manner of merchandise.

Not content with all that, Cartoon Network's owner, Warner Bros. is now preparing a feature length movie adventure to be produced by 'The Lego Movie' duo Chris McKay and Roy Lee. 'Adventure Time' creator Pendleton Ward will serve as writer, as well as a producer.

It's not yet confirmed if Jeremy Shada and John DiMaggio will return to voice their roles of Finn and Jake respectively, but it's hard to see that they won't. "Mathematical!"

'Gran Turismo' movie being prepped by Sony Pictures

The Sony Pictures adaptation of the PlayStation franchise 'Uncharted' might have stalled, and with production yet to begin, it's almost certain to miss it's previously announced June 2016 release date, but that hasn't stopped both companies from exploiting one of their most beloved franchises - 'Gran Turismo'.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Tron: Legacy' director Joseph Kosinski is in talks to direct the upcoming picture, which has yet to be officially announced by either of the Sony companies. 'Watchmen' co-writer Alex Tse has previously submitted a draft of the screenplay.

Despite an economic budget of just $66 million, last year's adaptation of 'Need for Speed' was still a financial disappointment, grossing just over $200 million worldwide.

'Independence Day 2' casts Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth

It took a while to come to fruition, but the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 sci-fi hit 'Independence Day' is finally in production, with Director Roland Emmerich revealing key cast members.

'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' heartthrob Liam Hemsworth joins the cast in role that ComingSoon describes as "the son in law of Bill Pullman's President Whitmore", while original cast member Jeff Goldblum will reprise his role as neurotic MIT graduate David Levinson. Emmerich took to Twitter to announce the news himself.
