Restam 8.1 e 8.2/9. Faz sentido.

DirectX 11 vs DirectX 12 Performance Slides Revealed

    Made with Flare More Info'>
DirectX 12 is on its way and it promises to bring massive performance improvements for PC gaming. The new API will achieve improved performance and efficiency by using multiple cores more effectively vs the current DirectX 11 API.

As you can see in the slides above, you can see how much load is put onto the first core using the D3D11 API and how much less is used on the D3D12 API. What does this mean to the end user? Well for one, the frame took 9ms to render in DirectX11, but it only took 4ms in Direct12. By sharing the workflow more evenly across multiple cores, the render time is greatly reduced and the strain on the hardware is also reduced.
I really can’t wait for the official release of the DirectX 12 API, especially since Epic, Crytek and more are already pushing to utilize the new technology.

    Boas!

Report: DirectX 12 To Be Exclusive To Windows 10, NVIDIA Lists DX12 Compatible GPUs

Since its initial announcement, a lot of PC gamers wondered whether DX12 would be exclusive to Microsoft’s new operating system or not. Well, it seems that this new API will be indeed exclusive to Windows 10, as the official Twitter account of DX12 basically confirmed it.

As the official Twitter account of DX12 tweeted:

    >50% of gamers today have DX12-capable hardware. We’re super excited to bring them all to Win10 and DX12 – 1 yr free upgrade for Win7, 8.1!
    — DirectX 12 (@DirectX12) January 21, 2015

The fact that: a) Microsoft has never mentioned DX12 coming to Windows 7/8.1, that b) the DX12 Twitter account mentions only Win10 for DX12 and that c) DX12 is always mentioned alongside Win10 this far in every official report basically confirms our fears that this new API won’t appear on older operating systems. Not only that, but RPS was also told that DX12 will be exclusive to Windows 10.

But which graphics cards will support DX12? Although AMD has not commented yet, NVIDIA has listed the GPUs that are compatible with this new API. According to the green team, all Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell cards will be compatible with it.
When a fan asked whether his Titan card is compatible with DX12, NVIDIA replied and said:

@charles_6835 DirectX 12 is coming to all Fermi, Kepler, and Maxwell GPUs – so your GTX Titan is compatible!http://t.co/riSGD1oSwG — NVIDIA (@nvidia) January 21, 2015

DirectX 12 will deliver up to 50% more performance in CPU-bound games

During its Windows 10 event, Microsoft teased so much that we've had to cover it in multiple stories, but one of the more PC centric talks was about DirectX 12.

DirectX 12 will ship with Windows 10 later this year, and will provide developers with more power and control over their games, which will provide them with the ability to give gamers more complex, and better performing games. Microsoft's Phil Spencer teased that DX12 will reduce the power consumption of DX11 by 50%, which will allow many more mid-range mobile devices to run "high-end" mobile games.

Spencer also announced that Unity has adopted DirectX 12, which is big news in itself. This will allow games like Fable Legends to use DX12 to work between Windows 10 and Xbox One owners, and even cross-platform play, which is super exciting.

DirectX 12 and what it will mean for us gamers

At the Windows 10 event today there was some talk of the next version of DirectX 12 and what it will bring to the PC for gamers like us. While DirectX 12 will only be coming to Windows 10 (and by extension Xbox One as well) that probably isn’t such a bad thing for several reasons, but mainly as the upgrade from Windows 7 and 8 will be free for everyone within the first year.
As Matt mentioned in his overview of the event a few hours ago, the next version of DirectX will bring performance gains of up to 50%, even on DirectX 11 hardware. While this isn’t a promise that all games running on Windows 10 will get a 50% performance boost, even a small boost in a few popular titles could make this worthwhile. The main titles to benefit from this will be those that are CPU restricted today such as MMO’s like World of Warcraft.

When you are running Windows 10 on DX12 capable graphics hardware (which apparently >50% of gamers already have), there are going to be some substantial gains in performance as far as games developers are concerned, with DX12 providing “closer to the metal” access to both CPU and GPU, probably much the same way as AMD’s Mantle does now. As well as this they will be making performance improvements by reducing the load on your CPU from API overhead and Intel showed off exactly how well this works in August last year.
Futuremark, creators of 3DMark explain, “Games make thousands of draw calls per frame, but each one creates performance-limiting overhead for the CPU. APIs with less overhead can handle more draw calls and produce richer visuals. The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world’s first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. See how many draw calls your PC can handle with each API before the frame rate drops below 30 fps.”
Futuremark have announced that they will soon be releasing a version of their 3DMark benchmarking software that will include tests for “API Overhead” and this will test both DX11, DX12 as well as Mantle to see how they stack up on your hardware. The demo used in todays Microsoft briefing to show off the power of DX12 on Windows 10, was in fact this 3DMark benchmark.
Some development studios have also announced that they are already adapting their engines to use DX 12 features, including Unity with the Unity engine and Epic Games with their Unreal Engine 4. These two engines cover a large portion of the games being released for the Windows platform today and this should mean that next-gen titles released over the next few years using these engines on Windows 10 will look all the more detailed while running smoothly.

DirectX 12 will be Exclusive to Windows 10: Complete Integration will Require DirectX 12 Cards

DirectX 12 seems to be bringing a lot of new stuff and capabilities to the table. Especially, when it increases the performance and decreases the power consumption by an enormous amount. Gamer’s have been wondering weather they’ll be looking at an upgrade to DirectX 12 on previous version of Windows, namely Windows 8.1, 8 or 7, so here are some pointers and releases that strongly imply that DirectX 12 will be a Windows 10 exclusive.

Windows 10 will be a Free Upgrade – Nothing About DirectX 12 on Window 8.1

Microsoft has been quite vague about the subject and no official announcement has been made on the matter either. Hence we can only deduce that they want to wait it out with the announcement but they have in many places implied that previous versions of Windows might not be able to take the advantage of DirectX 12. On a recent post online they mentioned that almost half of the gamers will be able to take advantage of DirectX 12 and that they’ll be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Clearly not wanting to touch the subject of its availability on previous versions of Windows.

DX12 Features To Be Announced At GDC 2015, New GPUs Required For DX12’s Full Set Of Instructions

By now, most of you are aware of Windows 10’s exclusivity for Microsoft’s new API, DirectX 12. And while NVIDIA was quick to announce the GPUs that will support it, it seems – as expected basically – that new GPUs will be required in order to take advantage of DX12’s full set of instructions.Mike Ybarra, partner director of program management who leads engineering efforts for console and PC, told Polygon that while a number of DX11 and DX11.1 GPUs will support some of the features of DX12, new GPUs will be required for full support.
“To get the full support of DX12 will users need to get a new graphics card.” said Ybarra and continued:
“The power and frame rate wins we demonstrated come from improvements in CPU usage in the OS runtime and device drivers. And this was on DX11 devices.”
In short, those – theoretical – 50% performance boosts that Microsoft claimed will be enjoyed by gamers that own a Kepler or a Fermi or a Maxwell NVIDIA GPU.
But what will be the new graphical features that will be only supported by DX12 cards? Ybarra did not reveal any additional details but claimed that Microsoft will outline them at this year’s GDC.
