Naughty Dog Lead Designer Touts the Studio’s Engine: “Has the Sickest Blends”

Naughty Dog has certainly achieved some incredible feats over the last few years, and accomplished some outstanding work with the Uncharted series and the absolute masterpiece that was The Last of Us. It is fair to say that Naughty Dog is one of the best gaming studios in the industry.

Naughty Dog’s PS4 engine is simply extraordinary, and enables four times the texture resolution compared to Uncharted for the PS3. Naughty Dog’s lead designer Antony Newman took to Twitter to tout the capabilities of the engine.

Uncharted 4 Gets Amazing New Gameplay and Stunning 1080p Screenshots

Naughty Dog has revealed some new gameplay footage of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during Sony’s E3 press conference, and it looked awesome.

We get to see some vehicle gameplay, and Nathan Drake budding up with Sally for some urban environments shootouts. The populated market seems rather interesting as Nathan touches and moves aside the people occupying the area, and even excuses himself gently from a pedestrian in order to pass by him. It adds a dynamic that has not been present in previous titles, at least not to this extend.

The vehicle gameplay is a first for the series, and the driving segment seems quite enjoyable, both in what appear to be some fun mechanics, as well as being able to smash through the environment, creating some destruction effects, and even jumping across rooftops.
The gunplay seems to retain most of the mechanics of previous Uncharted titles, with the addition of some exciting new

Uncharted 4′ Directors Share Information on Mechanics, Differences With The Last of Us

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action.
During a livestream on GameSpot, Game Director Bruce Straley and Creative Director Neil Druckmann talked about the game and revealed a few more details.

Some of the main points talked about can be viewed below:

    • The jeep is fully physics-driven.
    • Druckmann mentions that he wants the team to feel proud of their work, rather than caring about satisfying the reviewers.
    • Uncharted differs greatly from the tone of The Last of Us, and after three and a half years of working on the latter, it’s like a breath of fresh air going back to the epic and spectacle.
    • Straley mentioned that there’s a huge difference between demoing The Last of Us and Uncharted 4. With Uncharted 4 they’re just “Wohooo! Yeah! Uncharted is Awesome!”
    • Straley is happy about where the studio is at, he’s really excited to talk about Uncharted 4, and it’s fun for him to play the demo, to be back to the heart of Uncharted and be like “right, we’re allowed to crank it to eleven, we’re allowed to just have a romp, an adventure, and be Nathan Drake again.”
    • Straley explains theat there’s a lot of thought, discussion, and work behind it the project.
    • Druckmann states the studio’s intention to create a story that stands on its own, while retaining some of the elements that made the previous games special.
    • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is not handled internally as the studio needs to focus entirely on Uncharted 4.
    • Straley mentiones that he is happy of the current state of the project, and eventhough there is a lot of work left, a lot of the game is done.
    • The rope has many uses including traversal, problem solving, in puzzles or even inside an action set piece.
    • There are additonal new mechanics to show, and they might introduce them at alter date.

Uncharted 4 Release Date Might Have been Leaked

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action.

The official target window for Uncharted 4 is Spring 2016, but today the actual release date might have been revealed via Gamestop.it, as discovered by Worldsfactory. The store previously had the placeholder March 31 date, but it has been now changed to April 22, as can be seen in the image below:

While this is certainly still a rumor, it could be possible that it might actually be the release date of the highly anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Naughty Dog Hides an Awesome Easter Egg in the Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action. Naughty did hide a very clever easter egg in the trailer that was far too easy to miss.

As the image below demonstrates the license plate of the jeep featured in the trailer, hides Elena’s name. The VN373, when turned upside down and cleverly getting an added scratch turning the upside V into an A, spells ELENA and the “FISH” shape and letter “R” forming her last name, FISHER.

Uncharted 4 Features Chest Hair That Blows in the Wind!

It has been announced that Nathan Drakes chest hair will be affected by the elements in the upcoming game title Uncharted 4! The news was recently announced by Naughty Dog Dynamics Artist Neilan Naicker during a panel at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games and Animation. You can watch the entire panel discussion on Gnomon’s archived livestream.
“I don’t know if you guys have seen pictures of this, but Drake has animating chest hair that blows in the wind.” was said by Mr. Naicker at 49:13 mark. It appears that the same technology using for the grass and vegetation is used on Drakes chest hair! Just wait till NVIDIA Gameworks or AMD TressFX Hair 3.0 gets involved to make this hair rendering even better!
“The chest hair is working exactly like the grass. It’s all in synergy.” – Andrew Maximov

I’m not certain, but Naughty Dog Character Concept Artist Ashley Swidoswski might have had something to do with all this as she happily pointed out the chest hair at a tech demo in December 2014!

Uncharted 4 – Lots of Info on Gameplay, Frame Rate and More

Sony and Naughty Dog demonstrated an impressive in-game trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the platform holder’s press conference last Monday. The footage wowed many, and revealed certain details regarding the latest iteration of the franchise, including some very exciting vehicle action.

As promised Naughty Dog have broadcasted the whole E3 2015 demo on their twitch channel, showcasing an awesome chase sequence as Drake and Sully race to help Drake’s brother, Sam evade Shoreline mercenaries.
Just after showing the full E3 demo of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Co-Lead Game Designers Kurt Margenau and Anthony Newman answered a few questions from the fans.
A summary of the information they shared can be viewed below as compiled by Dualshockers:

    • The team is still working on improving the gameplay included in the demo. For instance, a developer has noticed that the speedometer of the Jeep was at zero during the demo.
    • The demo isn’t an early level, but it’s a little later, after the player has already gotten used to the mechanics.
    • It’s not accurate that the game is getting darker because the team behind The Last of Us is working on it. The series is just maturing, but the theme is still adventurous and bombastic.
    • The jeep is something Naughty Dog wanted to do in the Uncharted series for a while, and it overlaps a lot with other mechanics in the game, like the rope.
    • The team looked at the game and picked up the appropriate slice of gameplay for E3, according to the fact that it can show the best features of the game in little time, with the right pacing and without needing too much setup.
    • The demo is one of the craziest parts of the game, and it’s the current benchmark for the number of objects on the screen and distractibility.
    • Naughty Dog hasn’t decided how long the game will be, bit feels the biggest Uncharted they ever made.
    • The multiplayer beta will be exclusive to those who will buy the Nathan Drake Collection.
    • Sam Drake is “much more Drake’s equal” than any other character in the game, as he’s similar to him and has the same skills and knowledge. The chemistry between voice actors is great.
    • Single Player will run at 30 frames per second. It was the best solution for the gameplay and quality, and Naughty Dog wanted to have the best looking game possible, with the best graphics and physics possible. Framerate has to be considered against everything else in the game, and the developers feel that locked, stable 30 FPS is better than variable 60. On top of that, higher frame rate would require even more optimization for every level, inflating the time it takes for each to get made and requiring the team to make more compromises.
    • Multiplayer still targets 60 frames per second, and the team can’t wait to show it off.
    • The team learned from The Last of Us to create more open levels, and core mechanics influencing the interaction between characters, to make them come out as more alive.
    • Having an Arabic language localization is a priority for the team, but it’s not known if it’ll actually be in, for now.
    • The rope has been implemented because it’s a perfectly natural evolution, and an extension of the fluidity of Uncharted‘s gameplay. Very little of it was shown so far, but it’s a big part of the game and it’s gonna be used a lot. It’s the most realistic rope Newman has ever seen. It can pin on a ledge and create a swing point. The spin point can also physically slide.
    • Nathan Drake is physically enabled almost all the time, and a lot of ragdoll physics have been added to him. There’s a lot of “crazy new tech” going on with him. The team wanted to make him as responsive as possible to the stick, but still look like a person reacting realistically (but in a slightly over-the-top cinematic way) to situations.
    • There are different animations for slightly lover cover positions, to which Drake can automatically switch as the cover becomes lower (for instance the deflating bags).
    • There’s going to be a photo mode in the game, and the team is going to improve it from the one we saw in The Last of Us.

Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

You can view the full amazing gameplay demo below:

Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the latest installment of the award-winning UNCHARTED series.

Created by acclaimed developer Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 system. Bringing the franchise into the new generation of gaming, A Thief’s End will be the most epic Uncharted adventure yet featuring new dynamic gameplay mechanics for combat and traversal, larger and more open environments to explore, and enhanced graphics and character animations to bring the game to life in a whole new way.

Set three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Nathan Drake has presumably left the world of fortune hunting behind. However, it doesn’t take long for adventure to come calling when Drake’s brother, Sam, resurfaces seeking his help to save his own life and offering an adventure Drake can’t resist.
On the hunt for Captain Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure, Sam and Drake set off to find Libertalia, the pirate utopia deep in the forests of Madagascar. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End takes players on a journey around the globe, through jungle isles, urban cities and snow-capped peaks on the search for Avery’s fortune.
Naughty Dog released a quite interesting video detailing what the job of a Visual Effect Artist at the highly acclaimed studio entails. Aiming to attract new talent, VFX artists Eben Cook and Iki Ikram, give us a small glimpse of a work-in-progress explosion in Uncharted 4 (at the 2.54 mark) and of some shooting (at the 0:40 mark).
We will bring you any new information on Uncharted 4 as soon as it becomes available.

Naughty Dog confirms Uncharted 4 is 30FPS on the PlayStation 4

Back in February, we reported that Naughty Dog said that hitting 60FPS on the PS4 with Uncharted 4 was 'really f**king hard', with the developer inevitably hitting that brick wall. Naughty Dog has now confirmed that the single player side of Uncharted 4 will be locked at 30FPS.

Co-Lead Designer on Uncharted 4, Anthony Newman, explained that the frame rate being locked to 30FPS was because "the game we wanted to make, to make the best game possible. To me, a locked 30 is better than a variable 60".

This change to 30FPS for Uncharted 4 on the PS4 does have me asking a question: Naughty Dog did promise it was sticking with 1080p 60FPS for future games. If the studio can't hit 60FPS on the PS4 without a large jump in visual fidelity over Uncharted 3 on the PS3, we need to really start tackling a big problem: the current generation consoles were never fast enough to begin with. Oops, there, I said it, again.

Naughty Dog: “That super great-looking Nathan Drake that’s in the cutscenes–that’s going to be the guy you have the whole time”

During the second interview of the newly started series from Sony, Conversation with Creators with Will Wheaton, Naughty Dog’s Anthony Newman, who is the co-lead designer of Uncharted 4, stressed once again that they are using real-time cutscenes for Uncharted 4.

Uncharted 4 will feature real-time custcenes

“We’re actually doing real-time cutscenes in Uncharted 4, which is a new step for us,”
“You’re not going to see those black bars that we used to have in between gameplay and cutscenes. That’s going to let us be so much more expressive and really get that seamlessness between the storytelling and the gameplay. Which we already do very well, but it’s going to allow us to take it to that next level.

The incredible detail and emotions will be present on Nathan Drake’s character model at all times

“That super great-looking Nathan Drake that’s in the cutscenes–that’s going to be the guy you have the whole time. The lighting model is nearly identical. All of that emotion you get across in the cutscenes, you’ll have in gameplay all the time.”
The astounding detail and emotional responses will surely give players a stronger connection with the character, making you feel like you are controlling a real person, that responds accordingly in any different situation. This could result in a far more immersive experience, that despite the linear nature of the game will feel much more dynamic and alive.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016. We will bring you any new information on Uncharted 4 as soon as it becomes available.

Uncharted 4 vs Rise of the Tomb Raider Graphics Comparison Showcases Some Incredible level of Visuals

YouTuber frost Danger has released a video showcasing a comparison between PlayStation 4 exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Xbox timed exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider.

You can view the video comparison below:

Both Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider feature an incredible level of visual fidelity

During the second interview of the newly started series from Sony, Conversation with Creators with Will Wheaton, Naughty Dog’s Anthony Newman, who is the co-lead designer of Uncharted 4, stressed once again that they are using real-time cutscenes for Uncharted 4.

Tomb Raider has long been a franchise with a big focus on exploration and puzzle solving, as well as providing some platforming thrills and shooting sequences. 2013’s Tomb Raider, focused more in creating a strong origin story for Lara Croft, and helping players of a new generation identify with the heroine in a more subtle way, by introducing the tomb element in a more linear but still effective and appealing form.
This time around she is more prepared and better equipped, to face bigger challenges and explore larger tombs with much more puzzle solving and platforming action. The environment of Siberia will offer more extreme conditions for Lara to adapt to, and her new equipment will be put to great use when facing avalanches and climbing dangerous icy peaks.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics demonstrated the first gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game looks absolutely stunning, especially with the impressive Siberia setting’s weather and environmental effects taking center stage.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is scheduled to arrive in Winter 2015 exclusively on Xbox platforms. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016. We will bring you any new information on both Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, as soon as it becomes available.

The Myriad Of Facial Expressions For The Announced Uncharted 4

The Uncharted series is Sony’s version of being able to market something right for a change, not Pixels or Jumanji 2, these are or will be dreadful. The recently announced Uncharted 4 “A Thief’s End” which is due to be released in 2016 promises to be an exciting adventure for your PS4.
An interview which was conducted with Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli and Arne Meyer spoke about how the game’s characters will emote in different ways. According to the discussion, the dev team are able to push the PS4 past the limit of the previous generation of consoles to achieve “a higher benchmark in rendering tech with the aim of increasing the fidelity of these characters, this is with the aim of more realistic character movements”. They went on to say that Uncharted 4 is likely to have “nearly endless facial expressions” which will no doubt add to the realism and immersive nature of the game.
An interesting note to this is the intricate details which could be captured within Uncharted 4, for example, in real life a human being constantly moves their eyes and lips without thinking. It’s not all about graphics but the general human feel which draws players in. (Writes “it’s more to games than graphics”, gets a graphics card chucked at the head).
Other news to glean from this interview includes the length of the game which will be “roughly of the same length. We have gone a bit longer in recent times so I would expect somewhere in that ballpark.” which sounds as if it will be consistent with the last titles. Another note which was revealed is that there is going to be “pacing between the intense moments to give you a little bit of rest.” Which is good considering a game is more than a series of nonstop set pieces which allows the player to have a richer experience

Uncharted 4 will not surprisingly be PS4 exclusive, this should be certainly a game which excites and enthralls players; unless Sony has another moment.
Thank You Gaming Bolt channel for providing us with this information
