LEGO Dimensions: LEGO’s Answer to Skylanders and Amiibo

Lego, probably the best toy franchise in the world, has finally jumped on board the interactive console gaming bandwagon. LEGO Dimensions aims to bring full customisation to this platform in true LEGO style.
So it all started back in October 2012 when Activision released Skylanders. Something revolutionary, where you can play with certain characters of your choice by putting the specific figure onto the play base/ portal base. Disney’s Infinity followed in August 2013 and Nintendo’s Amiibo November 2014. So now it’s LEGO’s turn, bringing the iconic LEGO brand, with its almost limitless customisation to the console; essentially bringing your ideas to life.

All of these manufacturers have a niche market, if not for the actual games, but for the figures. Skylanders have the dragons from Spyro, Infinity has a good proportion of the most popular Disney characters and Amiibo has some of the most iconic figures such as Pikachu from Pokemon. So what does LEGO have? Childhood memories, remember that first spaceship you made that didn’t look anything like a spaceship? Or that 3 wheel car that could only turn left or it would catch the carpet? Dem Feels right?
So this starter pack will cost $99 and will be released towards the end of September. I personally can’t wait for this, I own Disney Infinity and Nintendo Amiibo and love the figures; the gameplay is a little on the childish side, but I guess it is designed for 7 year-olds. September can’t come quick enough.

Nintendo issues apology regarding shortage of Amiibo products

Nintendo has publicly apologized for its continued struggle to keep Amiibos, little plastic figurines based on popular Nintendo characters, in adequate supply for gamers. For gamers trying to find their favorite Amiibo, some will admittedly be easier to find than others in the foreseeable future.

"We may continue to see consumer demand outpace supply levels for certain characters at times, but we will do our best to prevent that from happening," Nintendo said in a press statement. "As our library of amiibo continues to grow, some figures will be easier to find than others. We are constantly looking for the opportunity to reissue amiibo and are already making plans to bring back some currently out-of-stock Amiibo figures. Stay tuned for details."

The gaming company wasn't as proactive as needed when updating gaming fans, and said it will work to resolve those problems. A chaotic labor dispute also led to major delays along west coast shipping ports, which also added to supply problems for Nintendo.

Internet Petitioning Nintendo To Make Satoru Iwata Into An Amiibo

Since the passing of Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata, a petition has been circulating to create an Amiibo of the late company executive, and thus make him into a new character in Nintendo games.
Iwata's unexpected death last weekend caught the world by surprise, and some fans aren't ready to let him go. Over his career, Iwata had a hand in developing many of the classic video games we know and love. He was a key figure in the development of Kirby and Mother while working at HAL Laboratory, and after joining Nintendo he helped develop parts of other games too, including titles in the Mario and Zelda series.
According to the petition page, which currently has 17,000 supporters, Iwata once said "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer."
Because Iwata cared for video games so much, making him into an Amiibo is a fitting way to honor him. All gamers want to be connected to the games that they love to play. That is why we push the limits of computer gaming, always after an ever more immersive experience that puts us inside of the game.

Nintendo’s profits show it’s still a toy company at heart

Nintendo is a company that almost everyone associates with its games consoles. The classic NES, the iconic N64 and the more recent popularisation of casual gaming among all walks of life with its Wii system. But as of late, it’s made a big chunk of its money from selling Amiibo figurines, hearkening back to the earlier days of the company where toys were its main focus.
What many don’t realise is that Nintendo has been around in one guise or another for over 100 years. Started in 1889 by a member of the Yamauchi family, it initially made playing cards, which sold well with various artistic changes for more than 70 years.
After they began to drop off, Nintendo diversified, selling children’s toys like the Ultra Hand, Ulra Machine and even a “Love Tester,” which helped tide it over until the electronic gaming era really kicked off for Nintendo in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

    “It’s a me, you’re saviour!”
In the same way, Nintendo has supplemented its lacklustre Wii U hardware and software sales with an incredibly successful line of Amiibo hardware, selling a confirmed 10.5 million by May this year. In the past quarter, Nintendo has netted itself a profit of just over $1.1 billion yen (£5.7 million). That’s a big improvement over last year’s Q1 loss of 6.3 billion yen (£32.6 million)
This is only thought to be the beginning of Nintendo’s latest resurgence. With strong sales expected from its new mobile ventures with DeNA Co, Nintendo has predicted a profit of $50 billion yen for the year ending March. Although stock prices fell slightly at the news (as per Reuters) overall Nintendo shares have grown more than 60 per cent in the past year due to a strong investor reaction to Nintendo’s announcement of its drive into mobile gaming.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD getting amiibo exclusive dungeon

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is getting it's very own amiibo exclusive dungeon to compliment the already large selection of difficult dungeons in the classic Gamecube game.

The name of the new dungeon was revealed on the French Amazon site as "La Cave du Crepuscule" which translates, through Google Translate of course, to The Cave of Twilight. Ominous sounding, to be sure, and a good fit for the revival of Twilight Princess. Amazon France posted the details in error, though it seems that even Amazon US has followed and you can take a look at the unreleased amiibo, which is Wolf Link.

We've known about Wolf Link for some time, though what we didn't know is that Wolf Link would come with a special dungeon to complete. Other amiibo's will also have other cool effects and should give you in-game boosts and other incentives when you use them. You'll be able to replenish your health or arrows or some such. The listing also says that you'll be able to use these amiibo's with the upcoming Zelda title for the Wii U. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD comes out on March 16th, which isn't too far off. And the other Zelda game is still slated for a general "2016" release date.

New video shows amiibo for Zelda: Twilight Princess in action

Finally Nintendo has released a video showing us how the cool Wolf Link amiibo is going to work with the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess coming out on the Wii U.

We already knew that the figure would unlock exclusive content, thanks to the listing on Amazon, but now we know how it works and we get to take a quick glimpse at the exclusive "Cave of Shadow" area.

That dungeon gives players access to a series of challenges that require you to use Wolf Link and Midna's abilities to defeat an increasingly larger wave of enemies. Once the challenge is completed, your results are recorded in the amiibo and you can go back to try to beat your previous record.

There are going to be other amiibos that give players different advantages in-game as well. The Link and Toon Link amiibo's will restores arrows while the Ganondorf amiibo will allow Link to take more damage in-game. A Zelda and Shiek amiibo will also be available that can restore lost hearts.

Shovel Knight amiibo listed as a best seller at Walmart garden dept

Apparently an error in Walmart's website has led to the Shovel Knight Wii U and 3DS amiibo being categorized under gardening for some reason. At least it was temporarily.

Pixel Dynamo reported that the amiibo was supposedly categorized under Gardening & Tools in the Walmart directory, where it held the honor of being one of the best selling items in that category. Looking through the various categories, however, reveals that there is no "Gardening & Tools" category, and that the Shovel Knight amiibo is actually put under the correct category, Video Games.

Maybe this is a case of mistaken identity. And the search engine employed by Walmart might match the "shovel" in the name of the amiibo to any search for tools, so searching for "tools" could make it appear, though doesn't appear to be actually associated to any category other than video games. Curiouser and curiouser.
