Adobe Photoshop Mix, Brush CC, Color CC and Shape CC apps arrive for Android and iOS

Up to this point, Adobe has largely favored iOS over Google’s Android operating system with reference to its photo editing tools. That has all since changed as Adobe recently released four Creative Cloud apps to the Google Play store: Photoshop Mix, Brush CC, Color CC and Shape CC.
Photoshop Mix is Adobe’s general workhorse that replaces Photoshop Touch. With it, Android smartphone and tablet users will be able to perform basic non-destructive editing tasks like combining images, changing colors and contrast levels, apply preset filters and more.
Brush CC allows both beginners and professional users to turn their photos or graphics into brushes that can be used in Photoshop CC or Illustrator CC. Adobe Color CC, predictably, lets app users create color palettes by sampling colors in a scene for use in desktop apps like Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. Shape CC converts images into vector graphics for Photoshop CC or Illustrator CC.
The apps are also available on iOS where you’ll find them free of charge (ditto for the Google Play store). And for those interested, Adobe also released Hue CC and Preview CC for iOS.
The apps are part of Adobe’s revised approach to mobile. Instead of trying to cram everything into a single app, the company is now content to develop dedicated, job-specific apps that focus on just one or perhaps a few Creative Cloud tasks.

Apple Pulls iOS Apps and Games with US Confederate Flag

Backlash from the Charleston shooting is spilling into the digital realm as more Conferdate flag imagery is removed. This time, Apple is pulling iOS apps the feature the Confederate flag, most notably games that feature the flag. Other retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Sears and eBay have also pulled items containing the Confederate flag, but those actions have been largely restricted to clothing, memorabilia and the flag itself.
Most puzzling is Apple’s haphazard application of their removal. Some apps that feature the Confederate flag like historical apps from the History Channel have been untouched due to their historical context. Games however, that also feature the flag in its historical context, have been mostly removed. Once again it looks as if the standard is being applied differently to games, with a harsher standard being applied to them.
In some ways, it represents how the Swastika is sometimes missing from mainstream games. However, in those cases, the German side can be represented by other German war-time flags. In this case, it might be possible for developers to resubmit their games with the lesser known first Confederate flag and hope that goes through. It’s a shame though that Apple has taken an axe to games in particular without considering the historical context. Hopefully the next time a removal is done, Apple takes the time to properly judge apps to see if the use of the offensive imagery is justified.
Thank you TouchArcade for the information

Microsoft's Sway app for iPad is now available, Windows 10 version on its way

Microsoft announced Thursday that Sway, the newest addition to Office, is now available for iPad and will have a Windows 10 version. There's also a Sway update for the iPhone. Sway is a way to publish full webpage stories for whatever topic piques your interest.
The iPad version has drawn on consumer feedback to streamline the app, and some of the changes can be found in the iPhone update as well. It's now easier to add text, photos and videos to each Sway, and you can track the progress of the site by switching between Edit and Preview modes. Sway is also now available in six more languages, in addition to English (Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Japanese) with more coming.

The iPad version of Sway takes advantage of the larger screen by allowing users to create and view in landscape as well as portrait mode. There's also a Remix option to try out different layouts and styles with the press of a button.
Sway for Windows, which will be available later this summer, promises a touch-first experience that syncs across the web and devices, and creates content that is attractive on any screen. The initial Sway release on Windows 10 will be limited to PC and tablets.
Different examples of Sway demonstrate the versatility of the tool, while there's plenty of room left for your own interpretation.

BlackBerry's BBM 'Private Chat' Protects Against Unwanted Screenshots

Blackberry launched a new "Private Chat" feature for its BBM instant messaging application for Blackberry 10, Android and iOS. Private Chat is meant to strip out the pictures and names from a conversation so that if anyone takes a screenshot, they can't see who said what.
In the demo above, Blackberry portrayed a situation in which one employee tells another that he will pretend to get sick so he doesn't come to work the next day. Blackberry said that if he had used Private Chat, then his privacy would have been protected in this case because the other colleague in the conversation wouldn't be able to take a screenshot of it. Of course, the colleague could also tell their boss that Zack is only pretending to be sick, but he wouldn't have any proof of it.
Private Chat conversations can also self-destruct after a certain amount of time, and you can set the length in BBM's settings. The Private Chat feature and the timing for self-destruction of messages are included in the new Privacy and Control Subscription, which will cost $0.99 a month. Current subscribers of the "Timed and Retracted Messages" feature, which Private Chat will be replacing, will be upgraded for free to the new bundle.
The new BBM update also includes a redesign on Android, which follows Google's "Material Design" principles. Material Design has been adopted rather quickly by Android developers ever since Lollipop came out, especially compared to the previous "Holo" design guidelines.
Matias Duarte, who is Google's Vice President of Design, stated at Google I/O this year that over 40 percent of new apps use material design and over 200,000 apps have already adopted it in less than a year. He also said that the Material Design guidelines site has been visited over 2.5 million times so far, which isn't bad for a design resource.
The new BBM app also includes a new way to organize stickers and a new "quote message" feature to reference other people's messages in conversations. On iOS, the font is now based on the system font, which Blackberry believes users will appreciate.
The new BBM with Private Chat can be downloaded from both the Play Store and the Apple App Store now.

Most profitable iOS app? The HBO Now app

HBO's decision to launch a standalone streaming service to desktop and mobile users seems like it was a brilliant move, as HBO Now was the top grossing app for Apple iOS in May, the App Annie research firm found.

App Annie hasn't finalized June app figures yet, but expect HBO Now to remain near the top once again.

HBO Now, which is $14.99 per month, was able to top Spotify, Hulu, and other subscription-based streaming services. Using your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device is the easiest way to watch premium content not attached to a cable or subscription plan.

HBO Now is one of the latest offerings that cable and satellite subscribers can think about if they want to cut the cord. Anyone interested in trying it out can sign up and receive a one-month free trial period.

The new Hangouts for iOS app includes a new quick compose button that lets you get to new messages even quicker than before, as well as providing access to images from your iPhone gallery, camera or emoji library. This lets Hangouts for iOS users send all sorts of pictures to their friends through Hangouts.

BlueStacks brings millions of Android apps to the Mac

After being stuck in alpha and beta testing for a number of years starting way back in 2012, the BlueStacks Android emulator for Mac has finally arrived. Already a popular destination for Windows users that want to bring their Android apps to the big screen, BlueStacks has finally released the Mac version bringing the world of Android to OS X users everywhere.
The BlueStacks App Player not only brings your mobile apps to Mac, but has done so with quite an impressive level of integration. The free app can bring just about any app based on x86, ARM or Android TV technologies to the Mac with mobile-to-desktop syncing and content sharing just like they do on native devices. It comes with full keyboard and mouse support as well as hand gestures like pinch and zoom on the trackpad.
BlueStacks will also leverage built-in Retina displays, mics, cameras and graphics support directly from OS X. Another nice touch here is that Mac users will be able to scoop apps directly from Google Play, just as though they were on an Android device.
According to the company, BlueStacks already has 90 million Windows users, a number that could very well rise as Mac users get a hold of it. While its unclear how many Apple-heads are all that interested in the Google Play offerings, there are likely some without Android devices that will enjoy browsing through the millions of Android apps on tap. You can dowload the free app here.

‘Written’ App In iOS Allows You To Send Any Kind Of Message As Fast As Possible

Smartphones have been around for quite some time now and one of the initial purposes that it was intended for was easy communication. As time eloped with traditional methods of communication, internet messaging came forward. Its not like people do not send messages via SMS but they prefer the convenience. Considering iOS as part of messaging, the platform has provided many ways of communication that includes SMS, iMessage and WhatsApp and any other that might make its way to the App Store.

However, if its convenience we seek to send the message as fast as possible, whether it be WhatsApp, iMessage or an SMS there’s this awesome application that enables you to do so. In contrast to opening different applications and closing others and tapping every where to reach your desired destination to send the message, Written allows minimum hard work and more convenience to send your message. Lets get to the mechanics of the application.
Send Your Messages Fast And Easy With Written

Written works by swiping down from any where of your screen and the app will be prompted. Next you have to make your way through the application to select your desired platform to send the message. This isn’t very hard, its right in front of the application and requires minimum time. But before you straighten up to use the Written app, configure the messages and contacts that you frequently use.

To configure the Written app, launch it and provide some pieces of pre-written text which will come in handy when you use it later. Next you will have to select some of your favorite contacts that you feel are the important ones. Currently. Written app supports WhatsApp, iMessage and SMS to be integrated in the application for later use. However, the working of the application is same throughout each platform.
Set the Written Notification Center Widget and that is it. With this in your iPhone, you will no longer have to search for contacts to be selected and no need of looking for the icon to start messaging. Just swipe down and select your pre-set text and that’s it, as easy as it sounds. The Written App is available on the App Store for $0.99 and can be Downloaded from HERE. Do let us know what you think about Written.

Official 'Star Wars' iOS and Android apps launched

With four 'Star Wars' films currently in production, including this year's 'The Force Awakens' and the just announced Han Solo standalone film, Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney company have today launched an official 'Star Wars' app for Android and iOS devices which aims to bring the galaxy far, far away just that little closer.

Promising 'instant notifications on big announcements, including trailer releases and movie news' and the ability to 'Take and share a Star Wars selfie in various iconic costumes and settings, including Jedi, Princess Leia (with hair buns), Han Solo's carbon freeze, and more', both versions are currently clawing up the way of the platform charts.

Spotify urges premium subscribers to stop paying through Apple's App Store

Spotify is sending emails to iPhone customers encouraging them to stop paying for its premium music streaming service through Apple's App Store. The company is advising people to sign up directly through the Spotify website as a way to avoid the 30 percent fee Apple charges on in-app subscriptions.
Spotify’s ad-free paid tier costs $9.99 per month, but the company charges $12.99 if purchased at the iTunes App Store to offset the cut that Apple takes.
The email reads: "We like you just the way you are. Don't change. But if you want to change how much you pay for Spotify Premium, we're here to help. In case you didn't know, the normal Premium price is only $9.99, but Apple charges 30 percent on all payments made through iTunes. If you switch your payments to Spotify.com, there are no transaction costs and you'll save money."
The message then gives a 12-step tutorial explaining how to shut off auto-renew through iTunes and transfer a Spotify premium account to the web — something that can only be done once a current subscription lapses.
This is not the first time Spotify has clashed with Apple; in 2012, the company claimed Apple tried to prevent its US launch, and Spotify is widely believed to be behind the antitrust allegations that led to both EC and DOJ investigations into Apple's alleged anti-competitive practices.

Good News – You Can Now Quick Reply To WhatsApp Messages On Your iPhone

One of the benefits of Cydia and jailbreaking your iOS device, as much as folks over at Apple hate it, is getting nearly countless customizations on your device. From completely changing the interface of your device, to adding features not possible with stock iOS, jailbreaking offers many easy to go solutions for users all around. And today, we have just that in store for you. Quick Reply is one of iOS’ coolest features, allowing users to respond to text messages on the go, without unlocking their devices. Well, if you’ve jailbroken your device, and are looking for Quick Reply for WhatsApp, you’re in luck after the break.

    Advertisements

Use WAQuick Reply To Respond To WhatsApp Messages From Lock Screen Or Notification Banner

Now, thanks to a tweak called WAQuick, you’ll be able to respond to WhatsApp Messages directly from lock screen or notification banner. You’ll also be able to do this completely, or nearly bug free so WAQuick Reply should add for a good replying experience. Of course keep in mind that to make WAQuick Reply work, you’re going to need to purchase its license from the tweak’s preference panel in the Settings menu.
This costs $2.99, which should be reasonable enough for anyone used to installing tweaks on their device regularly. And after you’re finished, you’ll be able tor respond to WhatsApp messages without the hassle of unlocking your device. This works even when the app is not loaded in the background, so you’re covered in nearly every aspect. Of course, Quick Reply to messaging apps is one other feature that is expected in Apple’s iOS 9, so if you’re not much into the whole jailbreak scene, then you could simply wait for the update. Or, if you can’t wait, then download and install iOS 9’s public beta, which has been live for quite a while.

Apple Store Down – 2015 iPod Launch Happening Later Today!

Apple is expected to launch its next-gen iPod later today. Ahead of this expected iPod launch, Apple has taken down its online store.

    Is iPod launch really confirmed?

Many had believed that there won’t be any new iPods coming from Apple. However, in the past few months we kept spotting things here and there that indicated that Apple could in fact release a new iteration of iPod for those who don’t want the cellular features in their gadgets. Earlier, a reputed publication shared that, “Apple will be rolling out a refreshed line of iPods today, according to sources.”

This refreshed iPod lineup expected today will bring major improvements with a 64-bit processor and an 8-megapixel iSight camera. It is rumored that iPod touch will come with a motion co-processor that will help user track down steps and distance among other metrics. More storage will also be offered in the upcoming 2015 iPods. New iPods will be offered in dark blue, dark pink and well, gold.
Until now just another rumor, Apple’s taking down the online store has given a strong green light that we indeed are going to see the sixth generation of iPods possibly later today. With Apple’s Music now making waves in the industry, it is likely that Cupertino tech giant has timed this delayed release of 6th gen iPod to keep the music fans fall for the iPods all over again.
Have you been looking forward to some new and more powerful iPod Nano and Shuffles? Today’s definitely going to be your day.

Apple Down as Several Services Experience Outage – Updated List

Several of the Apple services are experiencing issues as the company has officially confirmed. Apple Music, Beats 1, iTunes, and Apple’s App Store has been reported to suffer from service disruptions. This comes after the Twitter confirmation of Beats 1 that announced nominees for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
“We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available.”
    Apple services experiencing downtime:

Beats 1 announced the big exclusive on Twitter after which several of the Apple services started experiencing downtime. Many users from different geographical locations have confirmed having issues with services including Beats 1, iBooks Store and Apple Music. Apple has updated its official system status page showing users what’s running and which services are experiencing the service disruptions. These include:

    • Apple Music
    • iBooks Store
    • Beats 1
    • iTunes
      • iTunes in the Cloud
      • iTunes U
      • iTunes Match
      • iTunes Store

    • App Store
    • Apple TV
    • OS X Software Update
    • Mac App Store
    • Radio
    • Volume Purchase Program

Reports have confirmed that many of these iCloud-based aforementioned services are giving users error messages or having connectivity problems in United States and Canada. Apple has officially put that these outages have started from 6:45 AM PT / 9:45 AM ET.
Apple started offering Apple Music streaming service and Beats 1 radio station on June 30 and has since been on a roller coaster ride. Apple hit a major exclusive with Beats 1 as it announced to unveil 2015 MTA VMAs nominees on Beats 1 today on July 21. Cupertino tech giant is trying to offer exclusives not offered by any other competing music service. Apple has so far focused on world first song releases, high profile exclusive interviews and is the only platform offering Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and Taylor Swift’s 1989 albums. The exclusive list of 2015 MTA nominees is just another feather in the cap of the new service.
We will update this page as the Apple services including iTunes and Apple Music are back up again.

Microsoft Send App Brings Chat-Style Email To Apple iPhone

It seems these days that Microsoft is giving more attention to competing platforms like iOS and Android than it does to its own Windows Phone (soon to be Windows 10 Mobile) devices. Joe Belfiore, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the Operating Systems Group, even had to explain to Windows Phone users back in early January that it hadn’t abandoned its flock despite the fact that it gave iOS and Android users better versions of Office.
With that in mind, Microsoft has launched its new Send email app for the iPhone (Microsoft says that Send is “coming soon” to Android and Windows Phone). Send is the latest product to ship from Microsoft Garage and aims to make sending quick notes to co-workers and classmates a simple affair. The first thing to cross my mind when I first learned of Send was “Why not just use IM or send someone a text?”

Well, the Microsoft Outlook Team figures that there are specific usage scenarios where this isn’t always an optimum solution. “While tools like text messaging and IM are great for short messages, you often don’t have your co-worker’s cell phone number or an IM app on your work phone,” wrote the Outlook Team in a blog posting. “This is where Send comes in! Send gives you the simple, quick text message-like experience while allowing you to reach all co-workers and have all of your communications in Outlook for reference later.”
You won’t see all of your emails within the Send app, just the one that you initiated from within the app. And thanks to tight integration with Office 365 — in fact, the new Send app will only work with an Office 365 business or school account — Send scans your most recent and frequent contacts to make getting in touch with your colleagues a simple affair.
Send also supports short replies that are simply a swipe away like “On my way” or “I’ll get back to you.” And lest you worry about such a “laid back” app not being up to code with your company’s email conventions, the Outlook Team reassures that “All Send messages comply with your organization’s email compliance policies—they are treated like any other work email.”
The Send app is available today via the iOS App Store.
