Apple’s Free App Of The Week: Matter for iOS [$1.99 Regular]

This might be one of the best App Store related news for those of you who love to post cool pictures on photo sharing services like Instagram, Shots, or even Twitter.
Apple just named Matter, a premium photo editing app for iPhone and iPad as its new App of the Week. As always, you know what happens when an app gets picked, you can download it for free and continue to receive updates even when the event is over.
For one whole week, this popular editing app for iOS is downloadable for free, saving you $1.99 to spend on something else or make an in-app purchase. If you are not familiar with Matter, basically it is one of the best mobile photo editing app out there on the platform, which allows you to create stunning 3D photos. Take a look below and you will know what we’re talking about.

Once you’ve downloaded Matter, go ahead and take a picture or grab one from your Photos app. The app will present you with different backgrounds, a variety of effects, and most importantly, 3D objects. You can also take your photo to the next level by making it more realistic using an adjustable model’s shadow, fine-tune, opacity, and strength. Furthermore, Matter also lets you erase a portion of what’s part of the photo and ‘seamlessly’ blend it into your photo’s environment.

Not only that you can use Matter for your photos, the app is also available as video editing tool too.
Use the unique video export feature to create short animated loops of the object spinning, pulsing, and hovering in your photo. Adjust the rotation speed and direction for a different effect every time.
As we mentioned before, the app is available to download absolutely free for one whole week, and you can grab it either directly from the App Store right from your iPhone or iPad, or if you’re feeling lazy, then just head over to this link and grab the app and download away.

Apple will put up another app for grabs just like this one next week, and we’ll be on the lookout for it, and report back to our readers what the Cupertino giant has in store for everyone. Till then, download Matter, and be sure to let us know in the comments section what you think about the app. It would be even better if you share your creations with us using the app as well!

Today: Pomodoro Timer Allows You To Time Your Tasks For Better Productivity

Some tasks require a lot of time while others are time sensitive which have to be done in a specific period of time. Mismanagement of time in that contrast might result in lower work efficiency and productivity as a whole. The best solution is to time the diversified tasks so you can finish it before the deadline.

Today: Pomodoro Timer is an app that will do all the time management for you. All you have to do is provide a little detail and you are done. Today: Pomodoro Timer is a task manager that keeps track of task time and provides essential breaks in between. Deadlines usually make you more productive and henceforth, Today: Pomodoro Timer provides you with time per task so you can make the most of it.
Manage Your Tasks With Time With Pomodoro Technique

The app name comes from a Pomodoro technique developed in 1980s that aims to break down tasks in several intervals so you can get enough time for breaks as to keep you focused on your tasks. The idea of providing breaks is to snap you out of distractions which would have otherwise lead you to overdue tasks for a later time. The bases of Today: Pomodoro Timer are derived from the time management method and can be broken down into three major stages that will imporve productivity.

The first stage is planning that deals in creating a list of tasks that you wish to do, for instance reading, writing, studying or any other. You also have the ability to add multiples of a certain task according to the amount of work that is to be done before the day end.

The second stage deals in focusing. It deals with setting timers for specific tasks that according to you is the best time between one minute and two hours. It totally depends upon you to schedule time of your tasks. After you set the timer for a particular task, next you have to set time for your breaks between the tasks, this is the interval.

The last stage is reviewing your daily progress which can be linked to your calendar. The events generated in the calendar by accomplishing tasks will encourage you to move to greater goals. However, calendar integration is available via in-app-purchases. These are the three major components or stages of the Today: Pomodoro Timer which you can use to enhance your productivity as well as save time for breaks.

Initially, the app has four multicolored sections and users can add a different task to each section. Five additional tasks can be purchased via in-app-purchases if you want more task sections. The app also has an Apple Watch extension so you can view your time with ease. Today: Pomodoro Timer is available in the App Store for free today.

Plex is one of the most popular media service that organize all of your music, TV, video, streams and photo collection. Plex for iOS is the hub for all of your personal media which you can share with your family and friends. The latest iteration of the iOS app has been revealed today that boasts a complete overhaul of the Plex for iOS app. The changes stretch from revamped visuals to structural changes as well as several new features.

Plex for iOS has not been updated for a long while and the reason for that does not matter at all since the update has finally arrived. The reworked Plex for iOS app has been build from scratch and includes features such as Plex Home, Support for multi-discs, Plex Mix music videos, secure connections and a lot of other changes that users will find in the update. Before you update, Plex users should make sure that the Plex media server is up to date to the latest version. Another thing that users should take note is the fact that the updated Plex for iOS runs on iOS 8.1 or up.
Plex For iOS Gets A Complete Redesign In New Update

The updated Plex for iOS now supports an even richer media browsing. With that said, you would now get recommendations, view similar movies and also the ability to view directors or actor based movies from within the Plex app. This enhances the functionality of the app and gives more of a personal feel to the Plex user on iOS.

Other than this, the Plex for iOS update also adds integration for the Rotten Tomatoes. This makes viewing reviews and ratings for your favorite movies as easy as it could be and right from within the app. You no longer have to open a separate app for it.
Video chapters are also part of the Plex update as now you can skip movie chapters and jump to certain scenes. There are two ways how Plex can fetch chapter information, read it from user’s media files or the ChapterDb website.
Finally, Plex’s latest Sync v2 technology has been introduced in the update. For all those not familiar with it, it improves the speed and stability of Plex Sync.
The Plex for iOS app is now free to download from the App Store while previously it used to cost $4.99. Listen To Beats 1 Radio In Unsupported Countries – How To

Here’s a complete guide on how you can listen to Apple’s Beats 1 radio station outside the United States and in an unsupported country.

Beats 1 is Apple’s 24/7 live radio station. It’s run by some of the top DJs is the business, but oddly enough, it’s not available in every country, which means not everyone can get in on the action right away, until or unless users are willing to put in some extra effort to seal the deal. And don’t panic, we’re here to help you get up and running with Beats 1 right away!
Create A US Based Apple ID Account

Before we can move things forward, you’ll first need a US based Apple ID. The steps for creating one are listed below:
    1. First of all launch iTunes.
    2. If you’re signed into iTunes using your current, non-US account, then we suggest that you sign out right away.
    3. Scroll all the way down in iTunes and make sure the US store is selected. You can confirm by clicking on the flag at the bottom right hand corner and then selecting ‘United States’ on the new page.

    4. On the top right of the iTunes UI there’s a button labelled ‘Sign In.’ Click on it, and you’ll be presented with a pop-up. Click on ‘Create Apple ID.’

    5. Now click on ‘Continue.’ Also accept the licensing terms on the next page.

    6. Fill in all the required fields and click on ‘Continue’ at the bottom right of the page.

    7. On the next page, you’ll be asked to select your payment method. Simply select ‘None’ and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

A lengthy process nonetheless, but once you’re done, you’ll end up with a United States based Apple ID at hand.
All done? Now move on to the last and final step.
Connect Using A US Based VPN To Listen To Beats 1

The final step is to download and install a US based VPN on your iOS device to listen to Beats 1 radio. While there are a ton of VPN apps available on the App Store, none of them are really ‘free’ with trials and in-app purchases being the order of the day to keep things ticking. Hence we recommend that you give ‘Onavo Protect’ a shot to get things up and running for good (download link).

The app is absolutely free, works like a charm on most connections, and during our testing we did not experience any sort of slowdowns or buffering issues.
The process might be lengthy for some, but hey, in the end you get to listen to Beats 1 radio. You can’t deny the greatness now can you?
While you’re at it, also be sure to check out: How To Replay Missed / Past Beats 1 Radio Shows On iOS, Mac.

LastPass Password Manager Goes Subscription-Free For Mobile

It makes sense to use a password manager because an increasing number of credentials are being stolen in major data breaches. LastPass and its competitors ensure the safe keeping of your passwords across all devices. To encourage users to make a leap, LastPass has freed its subscription on mobile devices as well as tablets. The company announced on Tuesday, citing that there will be no further need to sign up for any subscription to access LastPass’s features. Henceforth, syncing your password across different operating systems is made available without a charge.

However, if a user is in dire need of more features and more security then upgrading to a LastPass Premium Subscription is available for an annual fee of $12. Similarly, if you want to upgrade to LastPass Enterprise then it will cost an annual fee of $24 per user. Lets dive in and see the subscription details.
LastPass Updated With Free Subscription On Mobile

The subscription free LastPass lets you access unlimited devices. All of the previous features remain intact to the free version that lets you manage your digital life and logins at one place. The LastPass Premium has access to Shared Folders where you have the availability to share your passwords with others. You also get more protection with Premium multi-factor as well as customer priority support. The Enterprise version is available for big and small teams with Cloud Single Sign-On option. It includes Shared Folders with customized permissions, AD integration, Unified Admin control, Automated provisioning and much more.

First time users can sync data across the same type of devices without the need to upgrade to the LastPass Premium version. LastPass CEO, Joe Siegrist stated:
“People often hear about useful apps on the go and want to get started right away from their smartphone. This new freemium model allows LastPass users to get started with our password manager on the device of their choice”.
The centralized password store is another provisional attempt made by LastPass that deals in providing a set of secure passwords for services which has user profile details. It can be further used to auto-complete mobile forms. It also features a security test and the ability to update automated passwords to secure users. The feature that makes LastPass an amazing password manager is the fact that users only need to remember a single password. If you have a single password to remember, you can make it more complex for more security.
LastPass for Mac is still available with a 14 day free trial. Users can download LastPass For Mac and LastPass For iOS here.

Microsoft Announces Skype Business Preview for iOS and Android

We’ve heard that Microsoft plans on killing the old Lync app for business chat and meetings and integrate everything in Skype, namely Skype for Business. In a blog post, Microsoft today announced that it just released Skype for Business preview apps on iOS and Android, just months after it announced the Skype for Business project.
They state that the new apps come with a new and improved dashboard for easy navigation of contacts, calls, and meetings, while also updating the In-Call and In-Meeting experience. The dashboard now seems to show upcoming meetings and recent conversations in one place, while its new handy tools are built to make your life easier. For example, the contact search bar now find contacts by first and last name, email address, and even phone numbers. In addition to the latter, all contacts in your phone are now automatically included in the search.

The In-Call and In-Meeting experience is now more fluid and easier to navigate on smartphones and tables by making the buttons larger. Also, videos now fill the entire screen, but the best part is that you can now browse content while in a call or meeting, view it in full size and view the speaker’s video at the same time.
Skype for Business apps are said to work with anyone on Lync Server 2013, Skype for Business Server 2015 and Skype for Business Online. IT Administrators who wish to take part in the preview can get more details by visiting the Skype for Business Preview app web page here.

How To Save Cellular Data, Battery Life While Using Snapchat For iPhone

Snapchat is one of the most popular social apps on iOS, and can be a data hog if you make use of the service on a daily basis. From personal experiences, Snapchat cannot be used if your iPhone is at 20% or lower battery. With Instagram, you can browse through your feed even if your battery percentage is at 10%. But if we apply the same case to Snapchat, your device will take a miserable battery based tumble.

The reason behind this is because Snapchat wants to give their users the best possible experience, updating the app almost immediately in the background when something new pops up. You will instantly get notified of new replies or a newly uploaded Snapchat story. All of these automatic updates are handled by Snapchat’s built-in real-time feature.
Now that we know the real reason why Snapchat can’t run while your iPhone is low on battery or why this app consumes so many data. Let’s take things a little further and improve it by using Snapchat’s recently released feature called ‘Travel Mode.’
The developers behind Snapchat have decided to fix this headache by giving users the opportunity to disable its real-time feature in order to save cellular data usage and battery life as well. We think it is good to have this option enabled while you are traveling across the country or are just on a vacation somewhere awesome, so you don’t have to worry about roaming charges nor battery draining too quickly.
Travel Mode is also a good feature for Snapchat users who aren’t going anywhere either. You don’t want your iPhone to run out of battery faster than normal right? For whatever reasons you have, here is how to turn on the new Travel Mode.

Before we go ahead and get into the tutorial part, we just want you to keep in mind that by enabling Travel Mode, you won’t be able to receive everything in real-time on cellular data. In other words, New Snapchat stories, Discovery sections, and Snaps won’t load automatically when you launch the app.
How To Turn On Travel Mode In Snapchat For iPhone

    1. Launch Snapchat from your home screen.
    2. Go to Settings > Manage Additional Services.
    3. Move the ‘Travel Mode’ toggle to the ON position.

And that is how you use fewer Snapchat data and avoid charges from your carrier and save battery life as well in the process. You can download the latest version of Snapchat or update it via the App Store.

iTunes 12.2.2 For Mac OS X Released: Here’s What Is New

iTunes 12.2.2 update for Mac OS X is now available to download. The update contains Apple Music and Beats 1 related fixes, and is recommended for all users.

It’s a mighty big day for Apple, and having released iOS 8.4.1 and OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite updates for users, the Cupertino company also slipped in iTunes 12.2.2 in between the big releases, bringing with it fixes for Apple Music and Beats 1.
If you want to know what the release brings with it, then we have the changelog right here for your to look at:
    – Click on the Beats 1 banner to see what’s currently on, or view a complete broadcast schedule so you never miss a show
    – You can now view a list of the artists you’re following on Apple Music
    – Resolved an issue where iTunes loses its place when you go back to a previous page in Apple Music
    – Addressed a problem where artists may be sorted incorrectly in My Music
    – Fixed a problem where playlists displayed in the action menu may not match the playlists in your library
    – Artists can now share thoughts, photos, music, and videos to Connect, right from iTunes
As you can see, apart from fixes to Apple Music and Beats 1, there’s nothing new at all. Hence, it’s safe to say that this is a pure bug fix release and nothing more.

If you want to download iTunes 12.2.2 right away then simply launch the Mac App Store on your OS X powered computer, click on the ‘Updates’ tab at the top, wait for the page to load and the iTunes 12.2.2 update will show up in a while. Click on the ‘Update’ button and iTunes 12.2.2 will start downloading.

Apple’s Free App Of The Week: Time Surfer for iOS ($0.99 Regular)

Fans of endless arcade runner games should be excited for this week’s selection of Apple’s free App of the Week, because the popular Time Surfer title is on the shelf for grabs. As always, iPhone and iPad users can download Kumobius’ popular title for free starting from today through next Thursday. The title usually goes for $0.99 on the App Store, and is definitely worth buying, but why not take this chance and grab Time Surfer for free?

For those of you who are new to this section of the App Store, every week, the Apple staff will pick out a premium app or game and feature it as their free App of the Week. As the title suggests, you can download that specific app / game for free and continue to receive regular updates for a lifetime with no additional cost whatsoever.
Focusing back to Time Surfer, this is a really fun arcade game, especially known for amazing graphics and addictive gameplay. In the game, users are required to tap the screen to gain lighting speed and travel through a variety of scenic galaxies. To make Time Surfer a little but more interesting, players will have a chance to get ultra power and travel along with their favorite pets. The tiny creature isn’t there just for decoration, as they prove to be powerful allies in your darkest and most spike-filled hour.
Time waits for no one except you: the Time Surfer.
Surf across the galaxy & dive into the waves.
Rewind time to fix your mistakes & outrun the end of the universe.
Dream beyond the stars my intergalactic child.

As we mentioned before, the game is only free for one whole week before it comes back to its regular price of $0.99. We highly recommend that users snag this title up even if you’re not going to play it, coz there’s really no harm in stocking up on a paid app which has gone free for an extremely limited time-frame.
Without further ado, you can click here to download Time Surfer for free. Let us know what you think about this game and how it compares to others under the same genre.
While you’re here, don’t mind checking out the quick video showing you how to play the game.

Found the video tempting enough? You know what to do. Download away. We know you want to.

The iOS Photos App Is About To Get A Whole Lot Better In The Future, Here’s Why

We take a lot of photos using our iPhones on a day to day basis. With Apple pushing the credentials of its smartphone camera even further on an annual basis, the company half relies on the magic of its software to churn out beautiful snaps every time we press down on the camera shutter button. And speaking of software, a new patent application suggests that the Photos app which we all have come to love and adore for such a long time on iOS is about to get a whole lot better, and smarter.

According to a patent application filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, Apple is going to integrate new face detection algorithms in a future version of the Photos app, aiming to improve the overall quality and user experience of Cupertino’s photo management software on mobile. The way the new algorithm is going to work is pure genius, if the patent application is anything to go by.
Whenever you take a photo using the iPhone’s camera, the Photos app will intelligently detect all the faces in the snaps you’ve taken, match them with the contacts that are stored on your device and mail those photos straight to the corresponding contacts, without any user intervention.
    Mind. Blown.
Now, keep in mind that this is a patent application and nothing more. So there’s a high chance that this concept – or idea – will never see the light of day ever, like countless other patent applications filed by the Cupertino tech giant. And to make matters worse, we know for sure this feature will never ever be a part of iOS 9, due for release this fall, otherwise Apple would’ve made a huge song and dance about the whole thing on strange at WWDC 2015.

Still, it’s a very interesting idea, and something that can extremely go a long way amongst a lot of users if you’re asking us. For instance, rather than hunt down a particular vacation photo to mail to your friend just because you missed sending it in the first place, wouldn’t it be great if iOS does the legwork for you? We’re sure you’ll agree.
On the negative side of the fence, while such an algorithm oozes awesomeness and convenience, there’s also a chance that unwanted shots would also be emailed over if things are overlooked by the user itself. We are certain Apple would throw in certain fail safe mechanisms in place to not let that happen, but who knows what can go wrong at any given time.

Top 5 Best Third-Party Keyboard Apps For iPhone, iPad

Here’s a list of the top 5 best third-party keyboard apps for iPhone and iPad running iOS 8 which you should download and try right now.

With the release of iOS 8, Apple opened the floodgates to developers, allowing them to finally develop third-party keyboards for iOS. Unlike before, developers were required to restrict their offerings inside of one specific app, but all that changed with iOS 8. But today, we’re going to highlight the top 5 best keyboard apps which you should download and try on your iOS 8 running iPhone or iPad right away.
    Swype

The best gesture based keyboard available on Android for a long, long time, Swype lets you type words without ever lifting your finger up from the keyboard. You use swipe gestures to type out a word, ensuring that you jot down those messages and emails as fast as possible. There are many ways you can customize the keyboard using themes that are available as in-app purchases.
    Download Swype – $0.99
    SwiftKey

Just like Swype, SwiftKey has been available on Android for quite a while now. It’s a smart third-party keyboard that learns from the way you type, and throws word suggestions at you on the fly. Compared to iOS’s built-in keyboard, SwiftKey’s prediction and suggestion engine really is a state of the art affair. And of course, you can customize the keyboard according to your own liking using themes and whatnot.
    Download SwiftKey – Free
    Fleksy

Fleksy is built with speed in mind, and is claimed to be the fastest keyboard on the planet. The keyboard is dead-on accurate, and you have the option to customize the size of the keyboard according to your liking. Furthermore, there’s GIF support, for times when regular words don’t cut it in certain situations.
    Download Fleksy – Free
    Themeboard

If theming is your cup of tea, then look no further than Themeboard for iOS. There are a bunch of themes to choose from right off the bat, and others available as in-app purchases. There’s something here for everyone.
    Download Themeboard – Free
    Disney Gif

If you’re a fan of Disney and don’t miss a moment to throw GIFs at people, then the Disney Gif keyboard is huge icing on the cake. With many Disney GIFs to choose from, including those from Pixar and Star Wars, you can rest assured that things will keep ticking nicely as you type away in conversations in iOS.
    Download Disney Gif – Free
That rounds up our list for today. Be sure to tune in again for more lists like these in the near future.

Paper App By FiftyThree Is Coming Soon To iPhone, Here’s What It Looks Like

The famed Paper app by FiftyThree is soon coming to the iPhone, and the company behind the offering has released an early peek at the title itself.

If you’re a designer and happen to be in the ownership of an iPad, then we’re certain you’re well aware of the Paper app by FiftyThree. The app is essentially a digital notebook that allows you to “Sketch out a new product design, chart your progress, or outline a great business plan. Paper is the essential digital notebook that works the way you think, with no fussy settings or distractions”
Coupled with FiftyThree’s Pencil stylus for iPad, the app is an absolutely killer offering when compared to its immediate competing titles. And now, FiftyThree has confirmed that the Paper app is indeed coming to the iPhone, but hasn’t given any more details, except for the image above.

At first glance, it becomes clear that the iPhone app will be a very different affair compared to the currently available app for iPad. For starters, the iPhone app will allow users to import images from the Camera Roll, from what we can judge from the image teaser above. Apart from that, we’re certain there are going to be more drawing options that are going to be specifically tailored for the iPhone’s smaller screen size. And lastly, as you can tell from the image, the Pencil stylus will indeed work with the iPhone, so you can rest easy knowing that your investment isn’t limited to the iPad itself.
Regarding pricing, FiftyThree hasn’t revealed anything on that front either. And it’s also not clear whether or not the existing Paper app will be updated to support the iPhone, or a brand new app will be released altogether to cater for Apple’s smartphone.
The current Paper app is available for free to iPad users and can be grabbed immediately from the App Store here. If you haven’t given it a shot just yet, then we urge you to do so pronto. It’s a one of a kind title that deserves a lot of praises. In fact, the Paper app has been such a star hit that it’s being used by 13 million users worldwide, but that’s not all, it even claimed the title of Apple’s App of the Year, and also won an Apple Design Award.
Not a lot of apps can boast those credentials, but there you have it.
