Cebit 2015: Inside the CODE_n hall

While the show itself is a shadow of its former self, CeBIT still has some cool technology offerings up its sleeve and CODE_n is one of them. We toured the massive exhibition the ‘next tech’ and found something interesting on the top floor.
Trumpf has been a world leading in sheet metal fabrication machinery and laser technology. Given that the company’s core customers include Volkswagen, why take such a huge exhibition space at CeBIT?

We spoke with one of Trumpf’s experts, Albert Jung.
“Industry 4.0 was first discussed here in Hanover in 2012, but the principals are now coming into the mass market”, Jung explained. “For years, programmers have been able to break code down into ever smaller chunks which can be fitted together in new ways. That is exactly how Industry 4.0 works with physical engineering”.
Jung showed us how fast it was to set up Trumpf machines for mass customization – with an instant/live demo on a thermos flask. But how might this be implemented in the real world?
“A Volkswagen car will have many sheet metal parts, each of which have physical characteristics in terms of size, strength and mounting points”, Jung explained. “With out new machines, customers could be allowed to customize their own car in many different ways – without a part having to be taken off the production line – and with no increase in production time”.

“Affordable mass customization is then a reality”, he said with a smile.
The machines themselves can be managed from anywhere on the planet with a tablet and a secure connection – and everything produced by one machine can be instantly etched with a laser code and put through quality control by a second machine.
We asked Jung if he was worried about his machines being mass produced in China, “Not really, this is all about quality, not price, so we’re not worried”.

Cebit 2015: Inno3D prepares to launch affordable 3D printing

When KitGuru caught up with Inno3D CEO Ken Ho at Computex last June, he was laughing at the fact that all the visitors crowding his stand were focuses on his latest 3D printer – largely ignoring the graphic cards on show. At CeBIT 2015, Inno3D has decided to go with the flow.
While the models on display may have been launched before, it was what KitGuru learned about Inno3D’s strategy that was most interesting.
“The money in 3D will come from the refills, the filaments”, we were told. “So the most important thing becomes the size of your customer base. The more customers you have, the more money you can earn from 3D printer supplies”.

Clearly, this has all the feel of the early days of the colour inkjet market, where everyone has dollar signs for eyeballs.
    So, the key question: When?
“We are working on a new prototype now”, we were told. “Which will be on show at Computex and could be in stores before Christmas at £399″.

    Cebit 2015: Big Google presence

First we had shops, then in the late nineties the traditional model was turned on its head as the world plus dog moved toward online shopping in the dawn of eCommerce. Google’s presence at CeBIT 2015 had a distinctly retail feel.
Most enthusiasts will be drawn to the stand by the glossy, tech-laden Audi promising voice control with a simple smartphone interface.
Once on the stand however, you’re faced with row after row of wearables and other, clever ‘about your person’ Android devices.
    Here’s a handy selection.

be quiet! Reveal Dark Power Pro 1000W PSU @ CeBIT 2015

So we’re here at CeBIT 2015 in Hannover, Germany. First stop is to the be quiet! stand where they have presented the Dark Power Pro 11 1000w 80PLUS Platinum Power supply. This power supply is the newest in be quiet! line-up, providing stable power at extreme efficiency. This particular model has a special feature, which will be rolled out on the series. This is the OverClocking Key (OCK), this allows you to manually plug in a ‘key’ to switch between single and multi-rail modes to better adjust for those who decide to have power demanding graphics card set up or for overclocking. Like in the previous be quiet! power supply range, these will come with rubber mounting brackets, but new to this will be a rubber encased 135mm 6 pole motor fan; better efficiency, better power, better silence.
We are looking forward to this and the rest of the range, which will start at 550w and end at 1200w. We look forward to bringing you the rest of the news and events from CeBIT 2015.

ASUS TUF Sabertooth X99 Announced At CeBIT 2015 – Equipped With Thermal Armor Shielding

ASUS is one of two manufacturers that really puts an emphasis on the durability of their components and their products. ASUS, as we all know, has a reputation for doing things a little different and sometimes a bit over the top. And this time they are most certainly creating one of the most ambitious and likely reliable motherboards ever; announcing the TUF Sabertooth X99.

ASUS announces the TUF Sabertooth X99 motherboard. The next evolution of The Ultimate Force to provide the ultimate in overclocking.

The Ultimate Force is ASUS’s attempt to bring together the most reliable components and then provide a framework to ensure rock solid reliability. Oddly, this is targeted at gamers and overclockers and not the server crowd, though it’s inspired by their server line of motherboards.
This thing is absolutely gorgeous. The TUF Sabertooth X99 has similar styling to all TUF motherboards dating back to its inception as a brand in 2010 with the TUF Sabertooth X58. The black and tan color scheme is back and just as tough, or TUF, looking as ever. It also comes complete with the obligatory dust shroud, Thermal Armor and even PCIe slot covers to protect against dust and even some ESD.
With those tough looks comes TUF components that meet or exceed mil-spec standards for ESD protection with their ESD Guard 2 that’s integrated into the rear panel. New Alloy Chokes, low RDSon MOSFET’s and their own TUF branded 10K Ti-Caps are all on board to provide a clean power delivery process. It may just be a strange language to some, but the improvements that these components provide are actually substantial. Perhaps not in a normal environment, but they do help, and work.
It wouldn’t be a TUF Sabertooth model if it didn’t have a plethora of sensors either. To that end the TUF Sabertooth X99 has an improved IC that has control over 11 fan connectors and 12 total thermal sensors. They say that because it’s a hardware driven sensor platform that latency has been reduced to be around 1 millisecond, giving you near real-time data feeds.
The TUF Detective helps you find those pesky problems.

ASUS also introduced what they call the TUF Detective, which is a way to connect your Android powered phone to a dedicated USB port so as to remotely interact with the motherboard. You’ll be able to turn it on, restart it, clear the CMOS, view live system data like voltages and clock speeds and even view POST codes to help diagnose problems when its being put together. the TUF detective is actually a pretty novel way of interacting and providing access to the BIOS. Perhaps, in time, a way to update the BIOS via smartphone will be implemented as well. It’s only a logical step from USB key updates.
Speaking of USB, the TUF Sabertooth X99 will feature 2 USB 3.1 type A ports, 4 USB 3.0 ports and 4 USB 2.0 ports. Also, though, there is mention of NVM Express and the ability to support absolutely all types of NVM Express storage. It will supposedly come with a Hyper Kit expansion card that can potentially allow you to take advantage of the PCIe 3.0 x4 slot to use as storage, and potentially as a boot drive. Of course there is also an M.2 slot for storage as well.

Top everything off with a five year warranty and you have a good product. There is no word on pricing or the actual release date.

I’ve owned the previous entry into the socket 2011 arena, the TUF Sabertooth X79. It was used for distributed computing with two Titans (Kepler) to produce scientific results. The sensor platform was very much appreciated to be able to make sure that nothing fails and no fires accidentally happen.
The over-made components are a godsend. Anyone who works with a server environment can appreciate being able to rely on your capacitors to not fail. It’s actually relieving to know that the hardware should theoretically last for quite awhile. I also was confident enough in it to have it in an open environment and not in a case.
My point is that while the price will be steep, those that can appreciate the actual real-world benefits will really enjoy this. While I had to downsize for personal reasons, I might have to get back into distributed computing with a few of these, 8-core Xeon’s and a few Titan X’s in there.
So check out the gallery below and enjoy the gorgeous pictures courtesy of James Chen.

Two News Seasonic PSUs Revealed at CeBIT 2015

While not the biggest innovation in the technology industry, the latest Seasonic PSU really caught our attention, because it looks gorgeous! While it’s still of the same exceptional quality as other Seasonic PSUs, it has been finished in a stunning matte white, which would no doubt look great in the increasingly popular white chassis that have been hitting the market. The new model is called the “Snow Silent” and comes with all the features you would expect, such as a hybrid passive cooling solution, full modular cables and more. We’re really eager to get our hands on this for testing, so we’ll update you as soon as we know more.

Also on display, their new TFX PSU solution, which again may not be the most exciting product in the world, but there’s a huge demand for these products, albeit not so much in the consumer market, at least not right now. The PSU will churn out 350w, making it a great solution for integrated systems and industrial use.

Latest Fractal Design Fans on Display at CeBIT 2015

CeBIT 2015 has been full of cool technology, but sometimes it’s nice to take a closer look at the bits of technology we don’t always give much attention to day-to-day, our system fans. From water cooling radiators to chassis airflow, fans are a vital component to our computers and the new ranges from Fractal Design are looking very promising. The fans have high-quality motors, specially designed fins on each type, making them suitable for chassis, radiators and more.
The new fans have rubber fittings for reduced vibration, come in sizes as small as 40mm and are of a very high quality overall. We look forward to testing them out later in the year and I’m very eager to see how they perform on water cooling radiators, as the black and white theme would no doubt look great in a water cooled system.

While we’ve seen this keyboard at CES 2015, this is the first time we’ve covered its existence on eTeknix. The new board features Real Key, a stunning new technology from Cherry that uses analogue switch technology to help cut key register time from 20ms right down to 1ms, removing the issues currently associated with switch bounce rate. This means your keys are going to be a lot more responsive, especially for those who play fast paced games and what’s even more exciting, Cherry are pushing these new switches with the launch of their new MX Board 6.0 keyboard.
Premium build quality, ultra-responsive switches and hopefully a competitive price tag. We’ll bring you more information as soon as wel have it.

Latest ASRock Motherboards @ CeBIT 2015

So at CeBIT 2015, we were presented by a wall of motherboards at the ASRock stand. Short, sweet and to the point, exactly how an established company should be. We saw no new motherboards presented here, but all the motherboards here have the same new feature; USB 3.1. The new USB standard is a dominant theme throughout the entirety of the show.
We hope to see a new USB 3.1 motherboard header to be built onto the motherboard soon for the case manufacturers to be able to offer USB 3.1 compatibility at a later date.
We look forward to seeing what new technology ASRock has to offer in the future. Any news or updates, we will keep you updated.

MSI Press Event at CeBIT 2015

It’s not every day you see a motherboard bolted to an Ent, but that’s exactly what we saw at the MSI Press dinner, what an awesome way to show off their new energy efficient motherboard and it’s certainly something that catches the eye! White motherboards are no doubt the next big thing in the component market, so we’re really looking forward to seeing more of these.

While MSI has many of their latest and greatest products on show, the system mods certainly stole the show, at least to a certain extent. This snake head mod really shows off their new KRAIT motherboards, again playing on the black and white themes that are slowly appearing in the market.

After a short presentation, displaying their latest products, new technologies such as USB 3.1 support and TYPE-C support, Haswell-E and much more. Of course, we’ll bring you more in-depth coverage of these products shortly, but for now, check out this 5ft tall, absolutely stunning MSI dragon! We begged them for a free one for the office, but apparently they’re too expensive, perhaps MSI will give us one for competition?
