Netflix is doubling down on its original programming in 2016

Netflix has been putting out some truly incredible original TV shows like 'Orange is the New Black' and 'House of Cards', but the streaming video giant is adding many more original shows to its roster next year.

We can expect Netflix to push out 31 scripted shows in 2016, compared to the 16 shows in 2015. These 31 shows will include new seasons of returning shows, and that's in addition to the 10 feature films, 10 stand-up specials, 12 documentaries, and 30 children's shows that Netflix will push out in 2016.

Algo que ainda nao se falou aqui, que me deixa bem contente, é a duração e cada episodio, pelo menos do Daredevil, de quase uma hora. Nada a ver com os 25min da teoria do big bang ou os 35 do walking dead.

Terminei a primeira season Daredevil. Simplesmente espectacular. Do melhor que já vi.
Venha de lá Abril com a season 2!

First, Jessica Jones. Starting in 3...2...1...

Edit: estou surpreendido, pela positiva. Bom suspense, boa história, boas partes inesperadas. Tem uma forma cativante de nos manter presos ao ecrã. Não sou fã do tipo de banda sonora que escolheram para acompanhar, estilo anos 20/musica ambiente de bar.
Quanto à personagem, ela faz um excelente papel. O estilo que ela revelou no Breaking Bad, está em tudo explicito aqui, e pelos vistos, agora de uma forma ampliada. Quanto ao corpo jotinha, que falei anteriormente, parece-me que fizeram de propósito, mesmo para haver um contraste gigante entre o que ela aparenta ser e o que ela é realmente.
O final do episodio, especoficamente ela a voltar para trás achei um pouco...rebuscado. Tipo...de cabeça perdida por completo e em menos de 10 segundos acorda para a vida...?

Adiante. Merece o segundo. Starting in 3...2...1....

Netflix may one day be run using WebTorrent technology

Netflix and other streaming services like it are crowning achievements of modern web standards and technology; able to stream pedabytes of data to consumers around the world, simultaneously and (mostly) without difficulty. However it faces the same problems as other large online entities, colossal web-traffic bills and the inerrant security issues of a centralised location. WebTorrent could fix that.
WebTorrent is a technology being developed by Stanford University graduate Feross Aboukhadijeh and it works by utilising BitTorrent’s dispersed computing model, with standard internet browsing. Instead of a central host delivering all of the files to every visitor, each visitor takes on a portion of the site and helps disperse it, thereby making a site faster and more robust against attack with every visitor.
“WebTorrent is the first torrent client built for the web,” Feross said in a chat with TorrentFreak. “It’s written completely in JavaScript – the language of the web – and uses WebRTC for true peer-to-peer transport. No browser plugin, extension, or installation is required”

This is a technology that could really help larger online entities, especially those that stream a lot of data – like Netflix. As it stands, peak hours can slow these services down, but with WebTorrent, larger numbers of users just means more uploaders, which should result in a faster service for everyone, as more and more people connect.
It could even be made more local, with those on the same ISP able to stream or share content with one another without it leaving the network, corralling and managing network traffic in a much more useful manner than it is currently.
And the technology already works. A quick visit to the WebTorrent homepage has a break down of how it can work with a live demonstration of video streaming via a peer-focused network. Netflix is also actively looking into the technology and has even advertised a job position with it named in the description. This is something it will be trialling in the future.

Inside Netflix’s Plan to Boost Streaming Quality and Unclog the Internet

According to this report, Netflix is changing its current "one-size-fits-all" model in favor of a per title approach that would mean higher quality with less data usage.

Netflix now has begun to embark on one of the biggest changes to its streaming technology since it launched its online video service in 2007. If all goes according to plan, the switch could help consumers get better-looking streams while also saving up to 20 percent of data — which is significant in North America, where Netflix usage single-handedly accounts for more than a third of all data consumed during peak times, and an even bigger deal in all those countries with relatively slow internet speeds that the company is looking to enter in 2016.

House of Cards season four will premiere on Netflix on March 4, 2016

Netflix used its marketing prowess at the perfect time, teasing the fourth season of its hit show House of Cards during the GOP presidential debate on Tuesday night.

The announcement was made from the office of President Underwood, the fictional president portrayed by Kevin Spacey. Underwood told voters through a new political ad that his journey in the White House was only just beginning. A new website was also launched for the president's potential campaign, where Underwood says he's had just about enough of "political gridlock and stagnation". A statement on the website says: "Let's plow through the stubborn and smallminded and send Washington a message loud and clear".

House of Cards' fourth season will debut on March 4, 2016 for your binge-watching needs - myself included.

Netflix app gets a makeover on Windows 10 devices

Netflix has updated its app on Windows 10 devices, dramatically improving the user experience in the process.

Powered by a "new implementation on the Universal Windows Platform", it features vertical scrolling through categories, an improved details page with optimizations based on the size of your display as well more accessible suggested movies, and support for touch on an integrated display and gestures when using a trackpad.

Currently, the update is only available for desktops, laptops and tablets on Windows 10, but phones will have it soon.

Adam Sandler works with Netflix because it 'rhymes with Wet Chicks'

With the debut of Adam Sandler's first show on Netflix, 'Ridiculous 6', the comedian is back in the headlines in a very big way. Something we seemed to have missed when the deal went through between Sandler and Netflix, is the reason why he signed with the content streaming giant.

Back in October 2014, Sandler said that when Netflix called him up with the deal, he "immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only. Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks". Interesting reason, Mr. Sandler. The full statement from Sandler was "When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only. Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks. Let the streaming begin!!!!"

Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, said "People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages - everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favourite line - not just in the US but all over the world. Sandler also reportedly makes $80 million per movie in Hollywood, and Netflix has pockets deep enough to keep handing over servers full of money to the creator of huge hits like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore.
