Pokémon Starts Celebrations For 20th Anniversary With Legendary Giveaway

Pokémon has become Nintendo’s most well-known franchise, spanning generations of children and pocket monsters, the dream of children all over the world was to capture all the creatures and become the Pokémon master. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the release of the first games and Nintendo wants to make it a big deal. Starting with their latest generation of games.
After announcing the re-release of classic trading cards, Nintendo wants you to celebrate a thousand different ways including new games and additions to some old ones. Every month between now and December you’ll be able to enjoy a new legendary Pokémon on X, Y, Alpha Sapphire and Omega Red.
In the month of February, you can add the first legendary Pokémon to your collection. Mew, the original legendary Pokémon, will join your party. If you want to add Mew to your collection you will need to visit Game in the UK, Gamestop in the US and EBGames in Canada. Ask at the counter for a code for Mew which you can then add via the Mystery gift option before you load into the game.
With everything from Mew and Celebi to the god Pokémon, Arceus, collecting the entire series will soon be possible, legends and all.

Catch ’em All in Style – Anniversary Pokemon 3DS Revealed, New Trailer Released

If you’re very, very old, you’ll remember when the original Pokemon games were originally released. Prepare to get your nostalgia on with this newly revealed 20th anniversary 3DS device.

Naturally, we’d have preferred a more iconic Poke mate on the back – something like Missingno for those of us hardcore enough to track him down – but these will definitely do.
Not only does this neat little console come packed with a choice of two face plates – one showing Charizard and the other Blastoise – but the original games come pre-loaded out of the box.
The two companion titles followed the adventure of a young Pokemon trainer as he travels the world, collecting badges and taking on Team Space Term. The franchise has massively evolved in the years since.
If you’re not fancying a new console – despite the admittedly cool artwork – then you’ll be happy to know you’ll soon be able to download digital versions of the titles onto the 3DS.





Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow will be available to download on the 3DS from February 27th. It’ll cost £8.99 or your local equivalent.

It’s a little pricey for 20-year-old games, but things are worth what people pay for them, and these are games that people are always going to be happy to pay for.

Pokemon 20th Anniversary New 3DS Red/Blue Bundle Images Surface Online

This year is a very important year for the Pokemon series, as the popular franchise celebrates its 20th Anniversary. While a new mainline game has yet to be revealed, Nintendo has already started the celebrations with a New 3DS console bundle. Today, some images of the bundle have surfaced online thanks to some lucky fans who have already managed to get their hands on it.

The new Pokemon New 3DS Red / Blue bundle includes a New 3DS console, a Pokemon Red and a Pokemon Blue faceplate and the two classic Pokemon games, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, pre-installed on the console. The 20th Anniversary celebrations for the Pokemon series will continue next month with the Wii U release of Pokken Tournament, the fighting game developed in collaboration with Bandai Namco. The game, which plays differently from any other fighting game developed by Bandai Namco, comes with plenty of very interesting features and a roster including some of the most popular Pocket Monsters such as Lucario, Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo and others. Other popular Pokemon such as Dragonite and others are also included in the game as Assist Characters. You can check out a recent tutorial video to learn more about Pokken Tournament’s mechanics.

A while back, it’s been confirmed that Pokken Tournament will come with an online mode featuring rankings and competitions, a single player mode called Single Battle, a multiplayer Local Battle Mode and a LAN mode.
The Pokemon 20th Anniversary New 3DS Red / Blue bundle launches in North America later this week, on February 27th.

Nintendo Direct coming back with a Pokemon themed episode on Friday

Nintendo is hosting another Direct show on Friday and it's going to be all about Pokemon.



The topics could be about nearly anything, even a new movie or different take on the franchise. But we really expect to hear more about Pokken Tournament, Pokemon Red, Yellow, Blue and maybe even something new considering we're coming up on the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Feel old yet?

The Direct conference will start at 7AM PT on the 26th of February. So be there to enjoy it live, or catch our recap after the fact.

Pokemon Sun and Moon trademarks slip out, announcement tomorrow?

It seems that the cat is out of the bag a little early on this one. Once again the trademark system has helped to uncover and confirm two upcoming Pokemon games for the 3DS before the big Nintendo Direct anniversary celebration tomorrow. Though nothing has actually been confirmed (aside from a fake parody account doing so) officially as of yet. The filings, however, are indeed real.



According to OHIM website, Nintendo put in an application to trademark Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon just earlier today. This corresponds to the surprise that Nintendo was teasing just yesterday for the 20th anniversary. More info will likely be available tomorrow during the Nintendo Direct, an we'll be watching along side you for all the juicy bits of info.

Pokemon franchise hits 200 million sold, spin-offs sell 279 million

Gotta catch 'em all, right? The Pokemon franchise has sold over 200 million units worldwide, as of February 29.



This includes the recent Virtual Console releases of Pokemon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. The 200 million number swells much higher if we include the 279 million units sold from Pokemon spin-offs, building up to a huge 479 million.

It all started in 1995 when Pokemon first launched, with the franchise hitting the 100 million mark some time in 2005 after the release of Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen. So the franchise is selling around 100 million units per 10 years, or 10 million units per year. Not too bad at all.
