In Norse Mythology, the rainbow bridge also known as ‘Bifrost’, is the only entrance to Asgard, one of the Nine Worlds in the Norse universe and home of the tribes of the Norse Gods and Goddesses. Within the gates of Asgard is the ‘Hall of Heroes’ also known as ‘Valhalla’, where Slain Viking warriors will go for the Afterlife.
It seems that website Nerdleaks scoured the web following Shinobi’s tweet, and actually discovered concept art for what seems to be, God of War 4. The art seems to have been found on the website of concept artist, Finnian MacManus, who worked at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio from September 2015 to December 2015. His work involved creating concept art for an “unannounced project”, according to his LinkedIn (which also seems to have been removed at the moment of writing).
The concept art on MacManus’ website was tucked away behind a private section on the site, but the content could be accessed by browsing through the site’s source code. The art reveals some interesting facts:
A Kratos-looking character with a beard
A Norse mythology setting
Alfheim and “Land of the Fairies” are a few of the image’s names
The Kratos-looking character will be in prison at one point
The Kratos-looking character has an axe that he can use to cut vines and create bridges/walkways
The surrounding environment could interact with the character
Interestingly, website Pureplaystation reports that the source of the leaked art, Nerdleaks, was hacked and its domain is now on sale. The site’s twitter account also seems to be deleted out of nowhere. Luckily the Neogaf community started a thread on the leak with backups of the images. https://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1204440
While the art mentions Kratos, Shinobi posted a message on the Neogaf forums, stating that fans are being “to hung up” on Kratos, possibly implying that Kratos might not be the game’s main character. As usual, take the ‘leaked’ art and information provided with a grain of salt.
Last week we reported that God of War 4 is said to be a launch title for the Playstation 4.5 (PS4K/PS4.5). This ‘upgraded’ console from Sony is said to be released in the 1st quarter of 2017. Additionally, rumors suggest that the console’s GPU is twice as powerful as the current PS4 GPU, while a more powerful CPU is also being discussed.
The God of War franchise has to be one of Sony’s biggest exclusives, with the protagonist Kratos battling monsters and demons as he faces off against some of the biggest and badest creatures from Greek mythology. Some uncovered God Of War concept art may have revealed the next pantheon to face Kratos’s wrath, beware the Norse gods.
The concept art was uncovered by NerdLeaks who located the images on the personal website of an artist who is known to have worked at Santa Monica Studio, the development studio behind the God of War franchise, in 2015. Since the leak both NerdLeaks twitter and website have been inaccessible, but not before others had managed to grab the images for everyone to see.
With the concept art mentioning Kratos by name, it’s safe to say that it was for the game series. The image below shows sleek stone buildings, meant to represent the world of Alfheim, home of the faeries while the forests of Vanaheimr are lethal with the exception of the plants shown in the concept art, revealing several plants that could aid or assist the warrior in his journey.
Could this all be a hoax? Could it be a clever tease to gauge interest in the idea before the reveal of a new game? Who knows the answer, but with the internet seeking the answers it would seem that people want to see Kratos fight off against gods like Thor and Loki while battling giant beasts like the wolf Fenrir and even the dragon Jormugand.
You can find all the images here. What do you think? Would you like to see Kratos face off against the Norse gods or is there another pantheon that needs to face his wrath?
God of War 4 has been as much a myth as the mythology that the previous three were based off of. Someone has leaked what appears to be concept art from a former employee of Santa Monica Studio that may point towards the direction that they're intending on taking the series, off into the realm of Norse mythology.
The concept art itself is fairly typical of what we might imagine a Norse God of War might look like, complete with a muscular and angry deity standing by what look like pieces to the different puzzles you might encounter in such a game. The problem is that these may not necessarily be legitimate. They come from the profile of someone who was an employee, but perhaps only a temporary employee there, which means these could very well be from their personal portfolio instead.
The site that leaked them, Nerd Leaks, is no longer with us, having been hacked into oblivion just after these came live and haven't been heard of since. The Twitter account has also been deleted. But then, that could also speak to the legitimacy of the concept art if someone is upset enough to try to take down the site. And the fact that they haven't returned since, is also an indicator that that the information is real, to some extent. That and the owner might just be afraid from the initial hack to not want to try leaking anything else, something they've been doing for some time now without anything happening to them.
Hopefully we're able to get more information by E3 this year, and perhaps an announcement of some kind to soothe our aching hearts and need for another God of War game.
