    nVidia Ampere

NVIDIA Ampere rumoured to be 50% faster than Turing at half the power consumption

2020 promises to be a pretty interesting year. Both NVIDIA and AMD will be releasing new graphics cards. From what we know so far, the red team will finally add support to hardware accelerated ray tracing in its upcoming GPUs. However, it appears that NVIDIA may retain its high performance crown.
According to Yuanta Securities Investment Consulting Co, the NVIDIA Ampere will be 50% faster than the Turing architecture at half the power cosumption. Moreover, NVIDIA’s Ampere will adopt 7nm technology.
What this means is that, theoretically, NVIDIA’s new high-end GPUs will be way faster than what is currently on the market. However, it remains to be seen whether these GPUs will be offered at competitive prices.
NVIDIA plans to release its Ampere GPUs at the second half of 2020.
It’s also worth noting that the green team will not host a press conference at CES 2020. On the other hand, AMD will be hosting one on January 6th.

NVIDIA to Announce Ampere at GTC in 2020?

Aside from fast 360 Hz monitors, things have been silent for NVIDIA at CES on the desktop front. However new industry reports indicate that Nvidia plotted an announcement date for its new architecture Ampere GPUs at GTC 2020, which will take place from March 22 to 26.
The news, however, remains to be based upon logic expectations and a rumor. Earlier on the CEO of Nvidia mentioned that there will be a 7 nm product, and a recent report by analyst group recommended investing in Nvidia now "will have their first releases to 7 nm over the next 9 months."
Other rumors have indicated that Ampere will have 50% more performance with only half of the consumption compared to Turing, thanks to improvements in architecture and the reduction to 7nm. There was also another rumor that mentioned that we will see the announcement of the architecture in March, adding that we will not see products based on this architecture until June.

Rumor: NVIDIA Ampere GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 specs surface

It has been a crazy year, and we have only just started. Lots of leaks and info mostly coming through unknown Twitter accounts. Today we can add to that as alleged specifications of the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 have surfaced.
Of course, you'll need to take a ton of disclaimers in mind, and huge grains of salt perhaps even the size of golfballs when you read this one. But history has proven over and over again, that there often is validity (at least to some degree) to be found in these leaks. So here we go.
On both Asia based mydrivers and on a twitter account from ‘KittyCorgi’ info has appeared on two new NVIDIA GPUs, allegedly Ampere microarchitecture based. Two GPU models are named, GA103 GPU (RTX 3080) which would get 60 SMs (Streaming Multiprocessors aka shader core clusters) and then there is a mention of GA104 with 48 of them (RTX 3070). The GPU IDs seem to be reversed for whatever reason, we know, again rumors. If you multiply the clusters with 64-shader procs per cluster (which is what NVIDIA historically has been doing) each then you'd see 3840 Shader processors and 3072 shaders processors respectively. The leak mentions a 320-bit bus for RTX 3080, which could mean a 10GB memory GDDR6 configuration.
According to recent claims the chips are fabbed at Samsung, which sounds expensive over TSMC. Samsung's 7-nanometer process would use EUV, making the chips easier to fab. Historically TSMC always has been NVIDIA's biggest partner. TSMC has been fighting on many nodes to keep up with demand though. So then, 7nm EUV fabbed NVIDIA Ampere GPUs.

GPU SMs Cores Memory Size Memory Bus SKUs
    Ampere GA103 60 3840 10/20GB GDDR6 320-bit RTX 3080
    Ampere GA104 48 3072 8/16GB GDDR6 256-bit RTX 3070
    Turing TU102 72 4608 24 GB GDDR6 384-bit TITAN RTX/2080 Ti

Rumors are that at GDC in march we'll see the first announcements on Ampere architecture (if it'll be called Ampere, yeah check that link my fellow web-hopper). KittyCorgi also drew up some block diagrams, obviously based on existing block diagram models. See attached.

    Boas!
E espero que a Intel também se venha meter pelo meio ao barulho...

Gostava também que a Imagination Technologies voltassem também ao mercado gamming PC com a sua arquitectura nova dos PowerVR.

Nvidia Ampere GA100-GPU would get 8192 cores and boost speed up to 2200 MHz

As GDC closes in, most people do expect some NVIDIA Ampere announcements during the keynote, time will tell. Meanwhile, some (and we assume it is Ampere) specs and benchmarks already have leaked from HPC parts. New info was spotted on the web though.
With the some benchmark entries spotted I already explained that most GPU work in a multitude's of that eight (bits/bytes), and that I would not be surprised to see 128 Shader clusters (CUs) and thus a possible 8192 shader cores for a fully enabled GPU. While it is nothing more than a user posting some info on a forum, new speculation is drawing some attention. A Chinese forum called Stage1 apparently has shared some reliable info in the past, and this round he talks about a chip called 'ga100', And GA obviously would be GeForce Ampere. Here's what he posted and galls GA100:

    • 128SM, 8192cuda, 24 / 48GB HBM2e, boost frequency up to 2.2Ghz, double the tensor core, 300W TDP

GA100 would get far more compute performance then expected, the 7nm fabbed GA100 would indeed get 8192 cores and thus 128 CUs, meaning NVIDIA if pretty much going monolithic and doubles up on their transistor budget, which going from 12nma and 14nm to 7nm is very possible. Very interesting is the mention of a boost clock up-to 2200 MHz, which seems high especially with a 300W TDP.
All that in combination with 24, 32 or even 48 GB of HBM2e graphics memory would/could deliver 32 teraflops of performance. Obviously we're talking data center and supercomputer centric products here, but Ampere paves the way architecture wise for the consumer products as well. Apparently the number of tensor cores would double up as well.
Relativity can be a bitch - of course, remember, this info is based upon one post in a forum. Grab some salt, but with the number of leaks and GDC so close, I can't rule out this info to be false.

NVIDIA Ampere A100 Has 54 Billion Transistors, World's Largest 7nm Chip

Not long ago, Intel's Raja Koduri claimed that the Xe HP "Ponte Vecchio" silicon was the "big daddy" of Xe GPUs, and the "largest chip co-developed in India," larger than the 35 billion-transistor Xilinix VU19P FPGA co-developed in the country. It turns out that NVIDIA is in the mood for setting records. The "Ampere" A100 silicon has 54 billion transistors crammed into a single 7 nm die (not counting transistor counts of the HBM2E memory stacks).

NVIDIA claims a 20 Times boost in both AI inference and single-precision (FP32) performance over its "Volta" based predecessor, the Tesla V100. The chip also offers a 2.5X gain in FP64 performance over "Volta." NVIDIA has also invented a new number format for AI compute, called TF32 (tensor float 32). TF32 uses 10-bit mantissa of FP16, and the 8-bit exponent of FP32, resulting in a new, efficient format. NVIDIA attributes its 20x performance gains over "Volta" to this. The 3rd generation tensor core introduced with Ampere supports FP64 natively. Another key design focus for NVIDIA is to leverage the "sparsity" phenomenon in neural nets, to reduce their size, and improve performance.
    Que bicho..
