Intel "Alder Lake" Memory Controller Could Carry Forward Gear Ratios

Intel's 12th generation Core "Alder Lake" desktop processors could take the concept of memory frequency "gear ratios" forward, according to patch notes from the most recent update to HWInfo64, as reported by Tom's Hardware. Introduced with 11th Gen Rocket Lake, a "gear" ratio is the ratio of the memory clock speed in relation to the memory controller speed. In Gear 1 (or 1:1), the two operate at the same frequency. In Gear 2, the ratio is 1:2 or the memory controller operates at half the frequency of the memory, enabling higher memory overclocking headroom. With "Alder Lake," the company could carry forward this concept for both DDR4 and DDR5 memory types that the controller supports. At this point we don't know if there are just two ratios (Gear 1 and 2), or whether the company could add some more granularity.

    Vamos a ver...

    Cumprimentos,

    LPC

Intel Core i9-12900K QS allegedly outperforms Ryzen 9 5950X in Cinebench R20 test

The processor allegedly scores around 810 points in the single-thread Cinebnech R20 test and as many as 11600 points in the multi-threaded test. Both values are higher than any processor currently offered on LGA1200/AM4 sockets. One thing to note, Raichu originally wrote ‘KS’, although he clarified that this was a typo, the SKU is actually “12900K”.

To quickly compare these results we can use, for instance, the latest Guru3D review featuring the 11th Gen Core flagship, the Core i9-11900K processor. This should ensure that the results are relatively fresh, although Maxon has already released a new version of the Cinebench benchmark, the R23, which could be a better fit for a new generation of processors.
According to those results, Intel Core i9-12900K would outperform AMD Ryzen 9 5950X by 26% and 11% in single and multi-thread benchmarks respectively.

Raichu does want anyone to jump to the conclusion just yet. While Intel Core i9-12900K might indeed be faster than Ryzen 9 5950X in some benchmarks, the performance crown will heavily depend on a workload. However, both CPUs should be ‘well-matched’, the leaker claims. Furthermore, he claims that that the processor might reach as high as 200W in full turbo mode, which is to be expected as the processor allegedly features a PL2 value of 228W

    No entanto, a TSMC decidiu aldrabar e chamar-lhe 16nm.

Alder Lake consumes up to 28% more energy at peak usage than Rocket Lake

The power needs for Intel's twelfth-generation Alder Lake CPUs have been revealed by China's FCPowerup, a website dedicated to power supply evaluations. This source has previously given accurate information on Nvidia's new 12-pin pcie connector, including the original schematic and pictures. The tables appear to be from an Intel paper, most likely aimed for power supply manufacturers. It is a problem with the 12V2 rail, which delivers power to the CPU. The table contains parameters for 35, 65, 125, and 165 watts, the latter of which is only relevant to hedt processors from the tenth generation. There is no indication that Alder Lake will include high-performance desktop CPUs.
The continuous flow ratings for Comet and Rocket Lake remain unchanged. Peak values have been increased by up to 28% on the 125W models and by 15% on the 125W models. The latter refers to the peak power usage, which happens often at startup. This is critical information for power supply manufacturers because when the power supply cannot match demand, it frequently shuts down automatically.
