iPhone 5c to be Discontinued Next Year

A report from Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times has confirmed that Apple’s vibrant iPhone 5c is to be discontinued next year. The iPhone 5c is Apple’s budget iPhone model, with its plastic case, selling for around $299 in a series of vivid colours.
The move has been rumoured since earlier claims from Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities, earlier this week. Kuo mentioned that the iPhone 4S is also to cease production next year.
The iPhone 5c is notable for not featuring a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a feature that is integral to Apple’s Pay plans, which may have contributed to the decision to abandon the handset.

Nada de surpreendente. Foi um flop. Era um 4S com capa de plástico colorida e ao mesmo preço...

RIP iPhone 5c – Apple Silently Kills Off Its Unapologetically Plastic Smartphone

While the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were the big highlights of today’s ‘Hey Siri, give us a hint’ event, many were expecting Apple to introduce a 4-inch smartphone which would be the successor to the iPhone 5c, which was launched alongside the iPhone 5s back in 2013. Today, there was no 4-inch iPhone, as the Cupertino tech giant went one step ahead and instead killed off the iPhone 5c altogether.

Apple didn’t announce the demise of the iPhone 5c vocally on stage, but if you take a close look at its official website – apple.com – it’s fairly obvious that the plastic laden smartphone has lived out its life and it was time for it to make a silent exit.
The iPhone 5c was announced back in 2013 along with the iPhone 5s, and while the smartphone wasn’t a hit, it didn’t prove to be a failure either. The sole purpose of the device was to give consumers more choice apart from the fairly obvious iPhone 5s release. Many expected the iPhone 5c to be a budget smartphone, but given its $549 price tag for an unlocked device, it definitely doesn’t fall into the ‘cheaper’ handset category by any means.
The pricing story is completely different if you considered buying the iPhone 5c directly from a carrier, however, as the handset was sold for free, and you only had to pay the usual contract charges which are tied to your wireless network of choice.

With the iPhone 5c out of the equation, and the iPhone 5s replacing it with a price tag of ‘free’ on a two-year contract with a carrier, Apple’s entire lineup of smartphones has gone metal, literally.
The iPhone 5c was essentially an iPhone 5 wrapped around in a plastic shell with a slightly larger battery unit, which is a clear sign in itself that the smartphone’s internals were miserably aged, and it was time for the device to make a silent exit.

If you’ve been wanting to buy an iPhone 5c, then the good news for you is that the iPhone 5s directly replaces it. And given the fact that the iPhone 5s is powered by a powerful 64-bit A7 chip, it’s a handset that holds its own in terms of performance and quality.
Do you, as a reader, believe that Apple made a smart move removing the iPhone 5c from its smartphone lineup? Do share your thoughts with us in the comments section below. We love to hear back from you.

iPhone 5c Hacker Cellebrite Inches Closer To Hacking Into Apple’s iPhone 6

Israeli tech firm Cellebrite has offered to help an Italian father hack into a locked iPhone 6 handset that belonged to his deceased son. It's the same tech firm that assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation with hacking an iPhone 5c after Apple refused over fears that cracking its own security would leave hundreds of millions of iPhones vulnerable to attack.

Cellebrite was sympathetic to a story about Leondardo Fabbretti, who's 13-year-old son Dama, adopted from from Ethopia in 2007, passed away in September 2015 of bone cancer. Fabbretti wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook asking for help with getting into the device so that he could extract photographs, videos, and anything else that might preserve the memory of his son.

Apple's customer support was sympathetic to Fabbretti's situation, but ultimately said it couldn't help since Dama's information wasn't stored in iCloud. The only way to access any of Dama's data would be to hack the actual phone itself.

Fabbrett's story made headlines and drew the attention of Cellebrite, which is currently in the process of extracting the contents of Dama's iPhone 6 at no charge to the father.

"I just came back from their office in northern Italy. The meeting went well. They were able to download the directories with the iPhone's content, but there is still work to be done in order to access the files," Fabbretti told CNN.

It's not known how Cellebrite is defeating the security of Apple's iPhones, only that it's been successful with some mystery method specific to the iPhone 5c and now appears to be close to hacking an iPhone 6.
