The Witcher 3 delayed again until May 2015

CD Projekt Red has made the decision to delay The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt again, this time by three months. The highly anticipated open-world RPG was originally supposed to come out in October this year but was originally delayed until February in order to ensure the game was up to scratch before release.
The Witcher 3 will now launch on the 19th of May 2015. The delay was announced in an open letter to fans from CD Projekt Red, apologizing for setting a release date too hastily.
“The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.”

Ultimately, the team decided that even though they were all working full speed, another three months would be needed:
“With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.”

CD Projekt Red provides more details following Witcher 3 delay

Earlier this week it was announced that the Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt has been delayed again as CD Projekt Red found “many details that need to be corrected”. However, the developer has provided a little more context now to Polish financial journalists.CD Projekt Red board member, Adam Kicinski (translated by Eurogamer) said that “gamers took our decision very well. The market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms”. It seems that the developer didn’t want The Witcher 3 to join the ranks of Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed: Unity and The Master Chief Collection, all big triple A titles, which unfortunately launched broken.

“We want to disarm the opinion that The Witcher 3 doesn’t exist. It will be closed by the end of the year in line with the schedule. There’s a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge. It’s the only reason behind the delay. We didn’t assume it will be this big. Only after putting all the pieces together it turned out it’s bigger than the two first put together.”
“Let me remind you: it’s open and not linear. We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don’t want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay.”
When the game does finally land, CD Projekt Red will start churning out little DLC updates, 16 of them- all for free.

Witcher 3 Dev: Gamers Are Wary of Poorly-Polished Next-Gen Games

CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 3's delay was well received by fans who don't want another bug-riddled game.It's no secret that quite a few big-name next-gen triple A blockbusters have been riddled with bugsor otherwised poorly polished, and its made the market increasingly weary of these titles. So, when CD Projekt Red announced that it needed a little more time to polish up The Witcher 3, the decision was met with praise, rather than criticism from gamers.
"Gamers ..." said CD Projekt Red's Adam Kiciński, "took our decision very well. [The] market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms." Kiciński admitted that his team set the initial release date for the game too hastily, which is what led to the multiple delays.

"There's a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge. It's the only reason behind the delay. We didn't assume it will be this big. Only after putting all the pieces together it turned out it's bigger than the two first put together. Let me remind you: it's open and not linear. We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don't want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay."

Kiciński's statement that the February release date was set too hastily does undermines the sentiment from CDP co-founder Marcin Iwiński who in May 2014 promised "no more delays" to the game. "This is not our first game; we are not newbies," he said then - "we planned [the February 2015 date] well".
Nonetheless, I would rather CD Projekt Red take their time and get it right.

You won’t just be playing as Geralt in The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red has revealed the second playable character in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Her name is Ciri and according to the developer, she will be crucial to the plot, even if her gameplay elements are small.
Be warned, there are possible plot spoilers in the next paragraph.
If any of you have read The Witcher books, then you will already know who Ciri is. For those who haven’t, she is the princess of Cintra and following the death of her parents, Geralt took her to Kaer Morhen, the Witcher base, to undergo some mild Witcher training under the supervision of Triss Merrigold.
Ciri’s presence in the third game means we will likely see the other Witchers from the first game once again and possibly revisit Kaer Morhen, which also only appeared at the start of the first Witcher game.

CD Projekt Red confirmed that Ciri will be a playable character earlier today:
“Ciri is playable only during certain moments in the game – we introduce her to give gamers another perspective in the story to make it even more engaging,” explains the studio’s Robert Malinowski. “You won’t play as her for long periods of time, but since she’s crucial to the plot, we thought that additional insight will allow gamers to better bond with this cool character.”
“The Witcher was always about Geralt and that has not changed, but that handful of moments when you play as Ciri provide us with glimpses of how the story feels from the other side.”
“She’s a living weapon… and everyone wants to control her. This, plus she also has her own will and agenda, so it’s not just finding her that counts. I think that is the most important aspect of this character. Geralt knows Ciri since she was a child. She’s Geralt’s apprentice and they have a close emotional bond – he trained her so she could become a witcheress.”
