Techland says 'not a chance' on downgraded graphics for Dying Light

There have been a few videos floating around the Internet comparing Techland's upcoming zombie survival shooter, with claims that Dying Light has been graphically downgraded. We've seen it before with Ubisoft's titles, such as Watch Dogs and The Division, but now the claims of Dying Light have PC gamers in a fit, and rightly so.

Techland's Paul Milewski spoke with GamingBolt, where he said "If you compare the 2103 footage to any of the material released lately, you can clearly see major improvements. Downgraded? Not a chance. Just look at the latest interactive footage released by us a couple of days ago." Milewski added "Also, consider that most of the recent media and YouTuber gameplay that's out there is all on PCs that we have no idea what's in them. And yet they all look better compared to the 2013 promo material which was recorded on a high-end PC at the time."

Techland Responds to Dying Light’s Graphical Downgrade Claims – Latest PC Footage Looks Better

Bringing the development work on Dying Light to a close and polishing the game for PC and the latest consoles, Techland has started rolling out in-game media content for preview. Recently, some new walkthrough videos emerged on the internet showing the gameplay and graphical assets of the upcoming action-packed survival horror video game, which, many fans claim, have been downgraded during the production process. However, the developer just came forward and clarified that there’s not a single chance of Dying Light’s visuals being downgraded on the latest platforms.

Techland Confirms Dying Light’s Graphical Assets Have Only Got Better – “Downgrade? Not a Chance”
Now that Techland’s most anticipated action-adventure survival horror video game title is only over a month away from its launch, typical reports and comparisons are surfacing on the internet claiming that the in-game visuals and graphical assets of the upcoming game have been downgraded during the development process, as the latest gameplay videos of the game show inferior visuals and texture detail compared to those that were showcased back in 2013. However, according to Techland, that is not the case.
Talking to GamingBolt, the Polish video game developer made it clear that Dying Light has only been enhanced further graphics wise during its production period and that the latest walkthrough videos of the game that can be found on YouTube are all running on PC with different specifications, yet they all still look better than the promo material for the game that was released back in 2013 and was running at a high-end PC at the time. Techland’s Paul Milewski said:

“If you compare the 2103 footage to any of the material released lately, you can clearly see major improvements. Downgraded? Not a chance. Just look at the latest interactive footage released by us a couple of days ago”
“Also, consider that most of the recent media and YouTuber gameplay that’s out there is all on PCs that we have no idea what’s in them. And yet they all look better compared to the 2013 promo material which was recorded on a high end PC at the time.”

So there you have it. While there are some games that were released this year with graphical assets that do not match or look more souped up compared to the in-game gameplay material that was released for them before the launch, it is not necessary that every upcoming latest game would be affected by the same kind of plague. Looking for downgraded graphical assets in every other gameplay trailer of a game is rather being over suspicious. Dying Light indeed looks a graphically impressive and promising game, but we can only tell how the game performs on each platform when it comes out next year on January 27.

Dying Light Uses SMAA T2X Solution on the Latest Consoles – Locked 30fps Ensures Smooth Gameplay

Techland’s upcoming brand new first-person action survival horror IP, Dying Light, is one of the highly anticipated titles that will gladly receive you soon after the start of new year. The game, as mentioned before, will run at 1080p/30fps on the latest consoles and while we are not completely sure if these figures will remain the same on the final build, the developer thinks that the game running at locked 30 frames per second with Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing T2X solution will offer the best and smooth overall gameplay experience.

Testing and Optimizing Proved Locked 30fps Provides a Smooth, Fluid Experience for Dying Light on PS4 and Xbox One, Says Techland

After mentioning that the development team is working to achieve 1080p/60fps with Dying Light on the latest PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, Techland revealed earlier this month that the upcoming survival horror title will run at native 1080p resolution with 30 frames per second on Sony’s latest console, and while saying that locked 30fps provides “perfectly smooth, gameplay-tailored performance,” and is the optimal solution for the game and all its features on consoles, the developer stated that there is still room for improvement in the frame rate before the production on the game is completed.
For a fast-paced game like Dying Light, where you need to quickly jump between rooftops, climb buildings and tackle hasty situations, stable frame rate is more important that higher, yet choppy frame rate, according to Techland. The Polish video game developer has already mentioned that the development team thinks a constant frame rate would be more suitable for Dying Light’s in-game environments. Talking to GamingBolt, lead game designer Maciej Binkowski confirmed that the game is locked at 30fps on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and mentioned again that locked frame rate is in the game’s best interest. He said:

“Yes. They’re both locked at 30 FPS. We did so much testing and optimizing and eventually came to the conclusion that we needed to lock at 30 FPS to ensure a smooth, fluid experience.”

Furthermore, Binkowski also revealed that the upcoming horror game will take advantage of Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing (SMAA) T2X solution to put out smooth and crisp edges with no noticeable pixels on the latest consoles. He said:
“We’re using SMAA T2X according to our super brainy hardware guys. That’s all I know.”
Dying Light is set to hit the shelves next year on January 27 in North America and on January 30 in Europe for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The developer recently revealed the PC requirements for the game, which, even after being revised, are fairly demanding.

SMAA é facilmente o melhor sistema de AA em post processing do momento.
Pena que nem todos os estúdios de jogos o usem.

NVIDIA and Twitch team up for an exclusive look at Dying Light

Techland will be launching Dying Light on January 27, but before its launch, you can get an exclusive preview thanks to NVIDIA and Twitch. The preview will be showon on Saturday, January 24, at 10:00AM PST.

You can watch it here, where the developer will be showing off the Be The Zombie mode, and Dying Light's hopefully awesome cooperative mode. Techland will be teasing the "crazy, over-powered Zombie hunt and destroy humans" gameplay according to NVIDIA. On the cooperative side of things, this mode allows you to eradicate the Zombies with your friends, which will be pretty awesome to do.
