Touch-based Office preview now available for Windows 10

If you're running the Windows 10 Technical Preview, Microsoft has launchedpreview versions of the long-awaited Office touch applications that you can download right now from the Windows Store.
Microsoft says that the touch version of Office currently supports PCs, with a version for tablets and phones set to be released in the coming weeks. It's unclear what version for tablets Microsoft is referring to, as the listings in the Windows Store indicate each app supports x86/64 and ARM devices, and they work perfectly on tablets like the Surface Pro 2, though it could be an error on their part.
The touch-based Office suite for Windows 10 currently contains lightweight versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, similar to versions already available for Android and iOS. The apps contain a subset of the features available in the full, desktop-optimized versions of Office, and lack keyboard and mouse support.
That said, the touch versions of Office are perfect for light editing and creation on the go. The touch-friendly interface forgoes small, hard-to-hit buttons and drop down menus, making it the obvious choice for small tablets and other touch devices without keyboard docks.

Downloading and using these apps is free for now, though in the final version, some features will be restricted to those with Office 365 subscriptions. To try them out right now, make sure you're running the Windows 10 Technical Preview, then head to the Windows Store listings for either Word, Excel orPowerPoint.

Windows 10 Install Will Work via Update Function

Microsoft unveiled in a media event that their latest build of Windows 10 will make updating from older versions of the Operating System as easy as installing an update. It is actually just that.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 users will be able to update to the new version directly through Windows Update, effectively removing the need for a DVD to be burned of flash drive to be created – including possible changing BIOS boot order and more.
At launch, this upgrade should be delivered straight through Microsoft Update, but for now you’ll need to go to the Windows 10 Technical Preview Page and select Upgrade now. This will download a file to your PC which after you will run it you will reboot and then be able to “upgrade to Windows 10 technical preview” as an option on Window update.

It’s nice to see Microsoft making it easier to update the OS, now they just need to learn that one doesn’t need to reboot the entire system when upgrading single software components; they can be restarted.

Windows 10 build 10009 images leak online, shows new icon updates

A bunch of screenshots have been obtained by ITHome.it, a Chinese website, claiming to show off Windows 10 Build 10009, although the build information is covered up in the images, we'll just have to take their word for it.
In the images it can be seen that many more standard icons have received the flattened treatment, among them: the Recycle bin, Control Panel and Drive icons. New icons have also appeared, but the images are rather small, but embedded for your enjoyment below.

In the above image, some users may be happy to see that the old transparent glass styled Recycle Bin is now a flat bucket.

In this next image we see an updated Drive icon.

A new 'lightning' icon appears to have been added, which is used for 'Quick Access' or favorite file locations.

There's also a Control Panel icon update, although it's unclear if this points to the PC Settings modern app, or the traditional Control Panel which is still accessible in the Windows 10 Technical Preview for Insiders (build 9926).
It's highly unlikely that these images have been thrown together: ITHome has been a good source in the past for Windows related leaks, but as per usual you should take this sort of news with a grain of salt, Windows 10 is still in the design stage, so anything could change before we see another build.
What do you think about these icon updates, good or bad?

Mehh... que coisa tão pirosa! Até dá vontade fugir!

Não sabem fazer icones, também não precisam, pois têm bons icones se os quierem ir buscar ao Win 7, é só copiar e nem trabalho têm.
Aqueles icones parecem do tempo do Win 95...., aquela reciclagem, LOL.
M$ por favor não estragues mais o Win e contrata uns desenhadores em condições.

GDC preview: Windows 10 vs SteamOS

"In order for innovation to happen, a bunch of things that aren't happening on closed platforms need to occur," Newell said. "Valve wouldn't exist today without the PC, or Epic, or Zynga, or Google. They all wouldn't have existed without the openness of the platform. There's a strong temptation to close the platform, because they look at what they can accomplish when they limit the competitors' access to the platform, and they say 'that's really exciting'. We are looking at the platform and saying, 'We've been a free rider, and we've been able to benefit from everything that went into PCs and the Internet, and we have to continue to figure out how there will be open platforms'."

    Boas!
