Sony UK boss is "embarrassed" by the launch of Driveclub on the PS4

The launch of Driveclub on the PlayStation 4 has been nothing but a mess, and even though Evolution Studios has been doing an amazing job patching up the game since its launch, Sony's UK Managing Director Fergal Gara, isn't happy.

Gara spoke with IGN, saying that he and the Driveclub team are "embarrassed" by the performance of the game so far. He continued: "It's a disappointment. When you lay your soul out as being '4ThePlayers', then what you certainly don't want is games that are not fully ready. It certainly wasn't any ill-intention on behalf of the team. It's ambitious as a game; they're as embarrassed as we are and all you can do in those situations is say sorry. We apologize to any players affected and are doing our damndest to make things right. So that's what we've been doing and the game is pretty near-complete now. We don't want to introduce the PS Plus Edition until we're confident the servers can take the load".

New Driveclub Photo Mode Direct-Feed 1080p Screenshots Show the Best Visuals of This Generation

Evolution Studios’ Driveclub was claimed to be the most visually impressive PlayStation 4 exclusive racing video game before its release, and if we keep aside the game’s rough launch and technical issues, it is in fact the most graphically advanced racer of this generation so far. The developer has been busy in recent months fixing the game and updating it with new graphical enhancements. If you are done reading about game’s network bugs and other issues, you should check out the gallery below containing a ton of jaw-dropping direct-feed 1080p screenshots that have been taken using the game’s advanced photo mode.

Jaw-Dropping Screenshots Taken Using Driveclub’s Photo Mode Show The Game is the Most Graphically Impressive Racer of This Generation so Far

Driveclub has had its fair share of criticism due to the launch issues that cloaked the game’s advanced next-gen visuals, but now that the dust has settled down and Evolution Studios has rolled out the dynamic whether update that pushes the gameplay experience a step ahead, the first-ever PlayStation 4 exclusive racer has started to shine. There are tons of in-game screenshots on the internet taken from the game’s advanced photo mode, and each one of those screenshots show breathtaking visuals.

    DriveClub February Update

The February update dropped yesterday weighting in at around 700MB which adds an extra tracks and 5 new cars. Kobago is located in Japan, it's very different from the other Japanese tracks as this track is much thinner and technically more depending. Anyway, I recorded a clockwise race during the day and the counter-clockwise race in the wet with.

Sony Confirms Layoffs at DriveClub Developer

Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that the developer behind DriveClub, Evolution Studios, has been hit with layoffs. The studio will now focus on updating the racing game and the launch of the PlayStation Plus Edition of the game."Evolution Studios will now focus on DriveClub as a service going forward, in particular, the important launch of the PS Plus Edition," said Sony. "We will be restructuring Evolution Studios to ensure that SCE WWS and in particular, Evolution Studios are in the best position to achieve these goals."
"Our first party development studios are key to our creative strategy and we are very excited about the future projects being worked on and the role Evolution Studios will play."
"We will be looking to relocate team members throughout the studios, but unfortunately some redundancies will be necessary and in those cases we will assist staff in any way we can."

Driveclub Upcoming DLC Shows American Muscle and European Class in Best Visuals of This Gen

Evolutions Studios Driveclub is one of the most graphically rich games on the PS4 that we’ve ever seen. And given that the game is an exclusive to the console, this makes the case for buying the PS4 even stronger given that the console is selling at lower of retail price in the UK. Moving onto news about the game itself, Driveclub has an a new DLC coming up which is releasing on the 29th of April according to Community Manager at Evolution Studios, Jamie Brayshaw. And we have some very amazing eye-catching screenshots to share with our viewers. You can check out the tweet below.

The #Camaro ZL1 stars in the TURBOCHARGED Pack coming APR29. Watch our #PS4share preview here:https://youtu.be/Srv2GLmkh5A

Driveclub New DLC Screenshots Show American Muscle in All its Glory

Jamie Brayshaw posted these screenshots onto his twitter page tagging these with the release of the upcoming DLC pack for Driveclub. The screenshots range from picture perfect American Muscle to a couple of amazing European rides that set the pace for the upcoming DLC pack for the game. The cars featuring in thee screenshots are the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the Dodge Charger SRT8, the Jaguar XKR-S Coupé and the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI.
Check out the screenshots below and do tell us which one you find the most attractive.

Furthermore, if you’re interested in checking out a comparison between Driveclub and Project CARS, you can see one here. Given the fact that there are these two game will go head to head in about 10 days from now when Project CARS makes its debut, this is pretty much as good as it gets in the racing arena (which is as negative as it can possibly go).
So enjoy your DLC pack for now, you have 10 days to enjoy it. Then probably, you’ll be busy with Project CARS as soon as the 8th of May approaches.

Driveclub Sold 2M Copies, Will Be Supported For Another Year

PlayStation 4 exclusive Driveclub has officially sold more than 2 million copies. According to the developer, the team has reached this goal even before the free trial version became available via PlayStation Plus.
With such a substantial racing community going on, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Evolution Studios plans to support the title at least for another year.

In terms of DLC, Driveclub players can expect new features, modes, tracks, cars and even some “big surprises”. There will be monthly updates too, with the devs planning to add highly requested things such as fully customisable multiplayer lobbies, new difficulty options, more tracks, community events, extra photomode options, fine-tuning for drift mode, smarter notifications and “a lot more”.
Evolution also chose to celebrate the announcement with a Double XP weekend, which is already active on all 15 cars available in the PS Plus edition; this will last until Monday, August 24.
Driveclub is a fine example of how a game can overcome a problematic launch (in case you forgot, the multiplayer portion of the game didn’t work at all in the first week or so), with the continued work of its development team. Are you still playing Driveclub on your PS4? Let us know in the comments.

Big Driveclub DLC Teased, Probably Announced At Paris Games Week

Two months ago, we’ve reported the news that the first (and only, at least for now) PlayStation 4 exclusive produced by Evolution Studios, Driveclub, will receive support for at least another year after selling over two million copies.

Also, last week we gathered some new information directly from Game Director Paul Rustchynsky, who mentioned that private lobbies are finally coming in November and that the team has more content surprises in the pipeline.
A few hours ago, Rustchynsky provided some additional details on that: it looks like a big Driveclub DLC is hitting quite soon.
When insider shinobi602 retweeted a Neogaf topic he created about PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games releasing in October, Driveclub’s Game Director replied that he might want to add “big Driveclub update” so that interested people would leave some spare money for it.

The mention of “a few pennies” makes it clear that this will be a Driveclub DLC, rather than a free update. Interestingly, the tweet has since been deleted, probably because Sony PR didn’t really want this information to get out yet (the quick snap has been made by Neogaf’s Rymuth).

In fact, Rustchynsky also posted the following tweet about Paris Games Week.

    Paul Rustchynsky @Rushy33
Be sure to watch https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/status/657166974229704704 …

It’s very likely that this Driveclub DLC will be announced during Sony’s Press Conference (which WCCFtech will attend, by the way), scheduled to begin at the Espace Grande Arche in Paris next Tuesday, at 6PM CET/4PM GMT/9AM PST/12EST.
Some exciting announcements for PlayStation gamers are expected to hit, especially since Sony Computer Entertainment skipped Gamescom this year, so stay tuned.

Driveclub Made Easier To Be As Inclusive A Game As Possible & To Have Fun; Elite Levels Remain Tough

The announced difficulty settings and brake assist option for Driveclub, will be introduced to the racer to ensure that Driveclub will be as inclusive a game as possible. According game director Paul Rustchynsky, chances are made to make sure that everyone feels like they can make progression.

Driveclub released a year ago and has come a long way since then. Coming from a disastrous launch, developer Evolution Studios has stepped up to ensure the game’s success. Over the year, the game has received tons of new maps and cars, and a ‘big’ October update was recently announced as well. The October update will introduce a new, fully optional, brake assist option to allow ‘less experienced’ players to get into the game more easily.
    Rather difficult; changes inbound

The game isn’t known for its easy difficulty and this seems to put of a large number of players from continuing the game. Level progression for instance, has been tied to specific events. Players who want to progress beyond a certain level, will need to beat certain events, even though these can be insanely hard for some.
Game director Paul Rustchynsky, seemingly acknowledged this as well in a recent post on the Neogaf forums, and assures that the team is looking to make a few changes in this area. According the game director though, no changes will be made to the game’s elite levels. Hopefully, more info on these changes will be announced in the coming months.

Rustchynsky further explained Evolution’s decision to offer an optional brake assist, and adjustable difficulty setting in another post. According Rustchynsky, there are hundreds of thousands of players whose skill level isn’t up to Driveclub’s current difficulty level. This doesn’t only apply to progress in the game, but also to actually have fun while playing. The game director continued that Evolution has always wanted that Driveclub to be as inclusive a game as possible. The adjustable brake assist and new difficulty levels, will ensure that the game opens up to a lot more people, ultimately more enjoying it.

Have you tried out Driveclub yet? Did you find the game to be too hard?

Driveclub Getting Huge Technical Updates, Tire Deformation Incoming and New Tracks

Driveclub is going to be receiving a few updates that’ll bring new technical capabilities as well as new actual content, like cars. Tire Deformation is coming next month, with more on the way.

@Buzz17091991 Tyre deformation for cars next month

Evolution Studios gives out details of future technical and visual updates to Driveclub.

Driveclub’s director, Paul Rustchynsky, took to Twitter to to answer some questions that fans had about the future of the series. It looks like Tire Deformation is going to be the first new technical feature to make it’s way into the game. What effect this will have on handling and driving will be very interesting to see.
In the future we’ll also see some updates to the engine that’ll allow for some visual improvements. Something called self shadowing parallax occlusion mapping, which is a technique for creating shadowed definition within a surface.

And of course there’ll be an infusion of new tracks coming next year sometime as well, though no hard dates have been found for those. These new updates are hot on the heels of the announcement of Driveclub Bikes that was made during Paris Games Week.

    Paul Rustchynsky @Rushy33
And for who want to know what the technique is called, its "Self shadowing parallax occlusion mapping" or SSPOM as we refer to it

There is a possibility that this added fidelity that they wish to bring to Driveclub could have a negative impact on performance, though integration and how it’ll actually work are still a ways off. It’s nice to see that Evolution Studios is not sitting on their hands with even graphical updates despite being a stunning looking title for the PS4.

Sony teases 360-degree video of Driveclub, ahead of PlayStation VR

During the PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, California recently, Sony showed off the latest build of their PS4 exclusive, Driveclub.

The latest build is in an experimental form for the PlayStation VR, Sony's VR headset for the PS4. Attendees got the change to try out a single track with one car to drive, all from the in-car view. Sony has now released a 360-degree video recorded from the front of a Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe.

The 360-degree video is a first from Driveclub developer Evolution Studios, showing off the Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe driving through some tracks, including some snow capped mountains, forest regions, and sunny desert settings. There's some impressive graphics to be enjoyed in the video, too. If you want to get the full experience, check out the 360-degree video above on your smartphone in the YouTube app - as you'll be able to physically turn your smartphone around and enjoy the world in 360 degrees.
