    Macbook Air

Apparently Apple won’t be revealing a retina display Macbook Air this week

October 14th, 2014 at 1:50 pm - Author Matthew Wilson
Apple has another event scheduled for later this week at which the company is expected to reveal new Macbook Pros, iPads, iMacs and Macbook Airs while also officially launching the next version of OS X. Unfortunately though, the often rumored and heavily sought after Macbook Air with Retina display won’t be making an appearance at the event on Thursday.
According to an anonymous source speaking to Recode, the Macbook Air won’t be getting a high resolution display this year, the closest thing set to appear will be the recently rumored 5K iMac. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 will be the main focus points of the event along with the official launch of OS X Yosemite, which will be another free OS upgrade for Mac users following Apple’s pledge last year to no longer charge new Mac buyers for its first party software.

It is possible that the delay in Apple’s new Macbook air largely comes down to the fact that Intel isn’t ready to supply the company with Broadwell CPUs, which will deliver better power efficiency for longer battery life while using a high resolution display.

Apple rumored to launch an even thinner 12-inch MacBook Air next year

Back in March we heard about a fanless, thinner MacBook Air and then again in September we heard about a new Retina MacBook Air that would be fanless, and thinner.

Now, we're hearing about a new 12-inch MacBook Air that is expected to shift into mass production in 2015, and should launch toward the middle of the year. According to DigiTimes' supply chain sources, the new 12-inch MBA will feature Intel's new Broadwell processor, with units of the new MacBook Air to be in extremely limited supply with yield issues being a problem.

Apple has been rumored to adopt a new form factor that would sport a buttonless trackpad, and passively cooled internals. Intel's new Core M processor will help that along, as they just launched last month. We should see Apple launch a new Silver, Gold and Space Gray MacBook Air in the New Year.

Apple's Next 12-inch MacBook Air to Feature USB 3.1 and Core M

Apple's next entry to its pathbreaking ultra-portable notebook, the MacBook Air, will be a new 12-inch screen size version. As with every new MacBook Air release for the past two years, there's talk of a screen resolution jump to "Retina" standards. Apple is preparing other cutting-edge hardware updates.

To begin with, Apple will tap Intel's latest Core M "Broadwell-U" chip, an SoC that combines a dual-core "Broadwell" CPU with graphics, a dual-channel DDR3L IMC, and system agent onto a single chip, with an overall TDP of 15W. Apple is working on a new fanless cooling system for this chip. The other big feature-set upgrade is the USB 3.1 port, which Intel plans to launch with the system agent for its next processor platform. USB 3.1 doubles bandwidth to 10 Gbps, and steps up power-delivery, letting you charge your portable devices faster.

Xiaomi reportedly working on MacBook Air laptop clone

Xiaomi has been known to push the boundaries in their smartphone releases, developing cheap and quite decent devices that pack designs often inspired by Apple. So far the company hasn't released a laptop, but judging by Gizmochina's leaks we might be getting one soon.

Images of the upcoming Xiaomi laptop show a design that's very, very similar to Apple's MacBook Air. It's not completely identical - there is a an orange key in the top right of the keyboard, an altered trackpad, and the wedge design overall hasn't been exactly replicated - but you could easily mistake this for a MacBook Air at first glance.
The 15-inch, 1080p device will also be larger than the MacBook Air, which tops out at 13 inches. Other specifications reportedly include an Intel 'Haswell' Core i7-4500U processor, which is similar to the chip found in the Air, as well as 16 GB of RAM. It will run a variant of Linux developed by Xiaomi for this device.
The Mi-branded laptop is said to cost around half that of the Apple device it's based off, which would place its price point around $500, making it very affordable.
There's no solid word on when Xiaomi will announce this new laptop, but if it's actually in development, a launch shouldn't be too far off. However it's unlikely we'll ever see this device hit Western shores, as Apple would almost certainly file an immediate lawsuit.

New Insider Leaks With Renders Show Apple’s 12 Inch MacBook Air With MASSIVE Redesigns

With CES in Vegas being the center of several new laptop and notebook launches, we almost forgot about Apple, whose impressively thin notebooks have become somewhat of an industry standard. While its an obvious fact that several of the Cupertino manufacturer’s products can be classified to be ‘over-priced’ in some segments, Apple’s design and construction of its notebooks still remains as flawless as ever. And looks like the company’s looking to make it stay that way, atleast according to Apple insiders anyways. Several folks familiar with Apple’s internal prototypes have spoken up and if what they say is true, then the next MacBook Air will be like nothing you’ve thought of before.
Vastly Redesigned 12 Inch MacBook Air To Replace Several Apple Legacy Features In Favor Of ‘Stealth’

The new 12 inch MacBook Air is so thin that several Apple employes have their own special codename for the notebook. The notebook is being referred to as the ‘MacBook Stealth’ given its amazing thinness. The 12 inch MacBook Air is said to be a quarter of an inch narrower than the current 11 inch model. Yet the screen size of the device is an entire inch larger than the 11 inch MacBook Air. This has been achieved by reducing screen bezels to an absolute minimum.

Apple reportedly set to redesign the MacBook Air with USB Type-C

Apple isn't staying put while other companies release their own thin, light and beautiful laptops. According to 9to5Mac, the MacBook Air is set to receive a makeover in a new 12-inch model complete with updated hardware.
The body of the redesigned 12-inch MacBook Air, at least according to 9to5Mac's leaked information, is around the same size as the current 11-inch model. However, the body is slimmer overall, and comes with an edge-to-edge keyboard with a larger trackpad and top-edge speakers.
The new MacBook Air is reportedly a fanless model, so there's a good chance it will use one of Intel's latest 4.5W Broadwell-based Core M chips that allow fanless cooling solutions. By not needing a fan to cool the CPU, the new machine can be a good amount slimmer than the previous Airs

One of the more interesting things about the rumored design is the lack of ports. 9to5Mac's mockups suggest there will only be a 3.5mm audio jack and a new USB Type-C connector on the laptop. That means no full-sized USB port, no Thunderbolt port, no dedicated video out port, and no MagSafe charger.
It's possible that the info provided to 9to5Mac refers to one of many internal models being tested at Apple, and not the final version. Removing many of the connectors we're used to on laptops could cause complaints from people expecting to use peripherals and attach storage without needing adapters or hubs.
Rumors suggest that this new MacBook Air will debut around the middle of the year, with production potentially ready to commence.

12 Inch MacBook Air Will Be Coming This Quarter Alongside Apple Watch – Analyst

Apple’s 12.9 inch MacBook Air has been the talk of the internet these days. The Cupertino manufacturer is being said to have some drastic design changes planned for the notebook, some of which include another reduction in thickness, and a complete reduction of external ports. More news has surfaced related to the MacBook, and it comes from KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, who has become somewhat of an authority on Apple stats and releases.
Ming-Chi Kuo Makes Impressive Claims About Apple Product Shipments; Also Provides Insight On 12 Inch MacBook Air

Starting from iPhone sales, Kuo claims that Apple shipped a whooping 73 million iPhones over the holiday season, indication that the company really has been quite busy last year. He also goes on to further estimate that the iPhone 6 contributed with 42 million sales while the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus chipped in with a more modest 16 million.

Coming towards this year’s releases, Kuo expects the Apple Watch to be with us sometime around March-April, with the company holding a special event to announce the device’s release. Apple showcased the Apple watch last year, with the gadget’s primary emphasis being on health apps alongside a little bit of connectivity and portability touches also present.
Coming towards the more anticipated 12 inch MacBook Air, Kuo expects the ultra thin, portable notebook to start shipping sometime around this quarter. That would make the shipping of the MacBook Air coincide with the Apple Watch’s release, and perhaps a separate Apple event with the Apple Watch, the MacBook Air and perhaps even the iPad Pro is on the cards. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is expected to be Cupertino’s first attempt at a larger screened tablet that is aimed towards targeting the educational and enterprise sector. Sounds like Apple has a busy first quarter ahead. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated as this develops.

Apple’s Macbook And Other Peripherals To Finally Get Touch ID Upgrade This Year Claims Source

Apple’s upcoming MacBooks, Magic Mouse and the Magic Trackpad might be getting some good updates this year if a rumor form a Taiwanese website is to be believed. According to the site apple, club,tw, the Cupertino manufacturer intends to introduce fingerprint technology on several of its devices this year.

Apple To Introduce Touch ID In Macbooks, Magic Mouse And Magic Trackpad This Year

Appleclub makes some interesting claims for Apple’s products this year. The site clims that Touch ID would see an integration above the trackpad on the MacBooks and will be integrated directly with the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. Fingerprint scanning has been a feature present in many notebooks for quite a while, and its due time that Apple also makes steps towards this on its MacBooks. Addition of Touch ID on the Magic Mouse and the Magic Trackpad would also end up giving these products an additional boost of features that could increase their overall popularity in consumers. After all, a mouse with Touch ID could mean opening up of a variety of new features and services for users all around.
However, before you get your hopes up, you should know that while the prospects of Touch ID integration on these Apple products do sound exciting, the design, manufacturing and security constraints rising due to such plans aren’t too small to overlook either. Touch ID integration would mean that Apple’s going to need to beef up security and make several design changes on the aforementioned products. After all, whose to say that after Touch ID gets introduced on your Magic Mouse, someone with malicous intent won’t find a way to access your data? So wait for more information to surface before you believe anything for sure. Stay tuned. We’ll keep you updated as this develops.

More rumors suggest that Touch ID could come to Macbooks

This week we have new rumors pointing towards the future of Touch ID and Apple’s Macbook line. According to evidence from Apple Supply Chain sources, Touch ID functionality could be coming to this year’s round of Macbooks, extending the technology beyond the iPhones and iPads.
An unofficial Apple blog site based in Taiwan, called the AppleCorner, has looked at the evidence from Apple’s Supply Chain sources and apparently we can expect Touch ID to debut on the Macbook Air 12, which will abandon some of the more traditional ports and pack in a retina display too.

This is a concept image and likely won’t represent the final product.
The sensor will reportedly be placed above the glass trackpad. If you don’t have any interest in a 12 inch Macbook Air then all hope is not lost as Touch ID will apparently also feature on new revisions of the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad, which can pair up with any of Apple’s computers.
This is purely speculation and rumor but bringing bio-metric security to the Macbook lineup could be a good move for Apple.

Apple Could Unveil The Much Rumored 12-Inch Retina MacBook Air On The ‘Spring Forward’ Event Next Week

According to recent reports, the highly speculated 12-Inch Retina MacBook Air might make an intro at Yerba Buena San Francisco at Apple’s Spring Forward event on March 9. Although, Apple Watch might be the most important gadget for consumers this year but little did they know that a surprise appearance of a 12-Inch MacBook Air could give them a major jolt.

The vague sketch of the rumored Retina MacBook Air came from Micheal Reports which claims to have resources inside of Apple. The theme of the Micheal report is the surprise appearance of a 12-Inch Macbook Air on Apple’s Spring Forward event.
12-Inch Retina MacBook Air To Launch On 9th March With Intel’s Next Gen Broadwell Processor

Micheal Reports emphasized the appearance of the 12-Inch Retina MacBook Air on Apple’s Spring Forward event in the following words,

“Many are expecting Apple talk more about the Apple Watch. However, sources familiar with the matter within Apple have exclusively told The Michael Report that Apple plans to unveil the long-awaited Retina MacBook Air at the same event. The Michael Report has independently verified this information to be highly credible.”
There is no solid news of the sort from any major websites and links about the Retina MacBook Air launching on 9th March. However, Quanta, Apple’s supplier have begun the mass production in January of a notebook series related to Apple. Secondly, Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at KGI Securities along with Morgan Stanley’s Andrew Uerkwitz have predicted that the 12-Inch Retina MacBook Air will be launched in March.

Considering all the rumors lately, even though the final specification sheet hasn’t been out, the 12-Inch Retina MacBook Air is said to come without the fan assembly featuring the Core M series chips based on Intel’s next generation Broadwell processors. The Core M chipset is a low power efficient processor which runs on just 4 watts giving the Retina MacBook Air much longer battery life as well as the power needed to light the Retina display. While some website quote the Retina MacBook Air to come with a headphone jack and a smaller C-Type USB port, some suggests a full size, with Magsafe connectors and an SD Card slot. The speakers are rumored to be mounted at the top of the keyboard.
So much for the codenamed ‘MacBook Stealth’ on the way, the speculations are impossible to final estimation but previous reports also included a significant price reduction which will give the Retina Air an advantage over sales decrease of the old 11-Inch MacBook Air. This all for now guys, make sure you stay with us on this matter and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Apple’s MacBook Air Refresh Coming On 9th With Broadwell On Board

With Samsung’s and HTC’s MWC releases behind us, its time for Apple to start making the news again. The Cupertino company will be holding its next event in just 4 days and its expected to focus on the much anticipated Apple Watch, Apple’s first foray in the wearables market. While rumors are abound that the 13 inch MacBook Pro might also be making an appearance at the 4th, there’s nothing to confirm such speculation so far. Several details about this year’s 13 inch MacBook Air have leaked, including different processor variants, storage and more.
13 Inch MacBook Air Specs Leak Ahead Of Apple’s Event Next Week

As expected, Apple’s refresh of the MacBook lineup will be coming with Intel’s Broadwell, which itself has been facing considerable delays over the past. The lowest iteration of the 13 inch MacBook Air will be coming with Core 1.6GHz i5-5250U processor. Graphics, as can be seen above, will be Intel’s built-in Intel HD 6000 with 1536 MB of memory. The second iteration of the notebook will be coming with the same processor, and RAM at 4GB. The only difference between the two will be on board storage, that stands at 256 GB of SSD storage, as compared to 128 GB on the earlier.

The higher end 13 inch MacBook Air will be coming with Intel’s Core i7-5650U 2.2GHz processor on board, which will be supplemented with 8GB of RAM on board. Storage also receives an upgrade, with the Core i7 variant of the MacBook coming with 512 GB of storage. Screen resolution for the Macbooks will stand at 1440 x 900 with battery life expected to be similar to the current lineup. The source of this information suggests that the refresh can be expected to make an appearance at the Apple Watch event next week. What interests us more is whether there will be any word about the 12 inch, Retina MacBook Air, that Apple’s rumored to have in the works for quite a while now.
The 12 inch Retina MacBook Air is expected to be a complete design overhaul of the popular MacBook Air and is expected to minimize space while keeping the basic requirements of a notebook in mind. Sources expect the notebook to make an appearance at the Apple Watch event, so all eyes on the 9th now, to see how Apple chooses to set the pace for this year. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated.

New Images Suggest a MacBook Air Update to Come on Monday

With Apple holding an event on Monday, there’s the usual flurry of rumours coming in about the things we might see. Of course, we’ll learn more about the watch, but there’s also suggestions that we might see a MacBook Air update alongside that.
New images from Chinese forum Feng.com appear to show screenshots of the system specifications for a new 13-inch MacBook Air. The pictures, which we’ve included here, suggest that a new model of Apple’s ultra-potable notebook could have an Intel Core 1.6GHz i5-5250U processor, Intel HD Graphics 6000 and 4GB of RAM. It’s also worth pointing out that this supposed new model comes with the 1440 x 900 display that has been on every 13-inch MacBook Air since 2010, not a ‘Retina Display’.

What this information points to is that Apple may merely refresh the specs of the MacBook Air on Monday, rather than introduce a whole new model with a new design, as some rumours have suggested. Those rumours, which still keep popping up, say that the company is developing an entirely new 12-inch model of the Air that will have an even thinner design and possibly a ‘Retina Display’.
But all of this is not to say that the new model won’t appear at the event too – it’s highly possible that we’ll see a brand new model and a refresh of the old 13-inch model. Stay tuned to eTeknix on Monday when we’ll find out.
