The iPhone 6c To Be Called iPhone 7c Instead; Launch Now In September?

The Apple iPhone 6c is one device that has started to pick up the pace over the past couple of months at the rate at which its been appearing in the proverbial rumor mill. The 4 inch iPhone has been said to come with a variety of specifications and features on board, as Apple seems to be caught in between designing a good device and keeping customer interest intact in its flagship iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus lineup at the same time. Today another interesting bit of news has surfaced about the device, so lets take a look below at what that is.

The 4 Inch iPhone From Apple To Be Dubbed As iPhone 7c Claim Sources

Courtesy of the never sleeping rumor mill, the iPhone 6c too has seen several bits and pieces of information surface about it as well. As of now, there’s a bit of confusion regarding what processor the device will be using. While several sources have been claiming that the iPhone 6c will be using the Apple A8, also found on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, latest information suggests that it might be featuring the A9, found in this year’s iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.
If the A9 making an appearance on the iPhone 6c is true, then we could see a strong market interest in the device should it be launched, particularly from users who require an Apple experience but not a large screen size. So far, sources suggest that the device should be launched by Apple during mid or early 2016 as production cycles have nearly ended for the iPhone 6c, so we might not have to wait quite that long for its official appearance.
    Advertisements

Today, some more sources have decided to speak up on the iPhone 6c that might confirm the presence of the Apple A9 on the device. According to alleged splly sources of Apple’s primary manufacturing partner, Foxconn, the 4 inch iPhone will not be dubbed as the iPhone 6c at all. Rather, the launch of the device will mark the start of the next generation of iPhones, with it being dubbed as the iPhone 7c. If true, then this makes things a bit more interesting when it comes to the iPhone 7c.
If Apple does choose to dub the 4 inch iPhone as the iPhone 7c, then we shouldn’t expect the Cupertino manufacturer to launch the device in H1 2016, as had been claimed earlier by rumors. Rather, the iPhone 7c should be expected to make a debut alongside the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus since it generally is in September that Apple introduces the next generation of its iPhones. Such a launch would fall in line will Apple’s traditions and give the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus plenty of time in the market as well. Thoughts? Let us know what you in the comments section below and stay tuned for the latest.

Report: Apple iPhone 7 won't have unique 3D Touch, releases in 2016

According to new research reports published by trusted industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's new iPhone 7 will release in September 2016 and won't make any dramatic improvements in Apple's new pressure-sensitive 3D Touchscreen technology.

Although the iPhone 7 is expected to sport beefier specs like 3GB of onboard RAM and a new, upgraded A10 chipset, Kuo states that Apple's upcoming flagship phone won't make any dramatic improvements on the new 3D Touch technology. The iPhone 7's 3D Touch will reportedly use "similar technology and structure" as the existing iPhone 6S and 6S Plus phones, so users shouldn't expect any dramatic changes in that department.

Interestingly enough, a new reports that claims Apple has opened up a secret lab focused on developing new display tech. Although the lab is focused on creating "thinner, lighter, brighter, and more energy-efficient" LCD screens, this could mean that Apple is indeed working on a next-generation 3D touch display. The iPhone 7, however, is rumored to feature an OLED display.

3D Touch introduces a new three-dimension method of viewing on-screen content, and its pressure-sensitive haptic feedback lets users "peek" over at new messages without leaving the screen. Although Apple was the first to use 3D Touch, the tech will soon make its way over to Android phones, and is rumored to be a major feature of Samsung's new Galaxy S7 flagship.

    Apple's iphone future in doubt

Wall Street fears iPhone not doing as well as marketed
The Fruity Cargo cult Apple is facing problems with Wall Street analysts who are refusing to repeat what its marketing department is telling them about the iPhone.

Apple has so far managed to avoid the downturn in smartphones by opening in new markets or making releases earlier to make figures look better. Wall Street however is not convinced, and a number of analysts are predicting a slump for the fruity cargo cult.
Jobs’ Mob also has the problem that the tablet craze has died down and the iPod has gone the way of the hula-hoop, the iWatch proved never to be the fad that Apple hoped either. In short, it is a company out of ideas and leaning too heavily on a product which is headed for a downturn.
Bank of America cut its estimate for fiscal 2016 iPhone shipments by 10 million to 220 million, pointing to a weakening among Apple's suppliers.
Raymond James lowered its estimate for 2016 iPhone shipments to 224 million from 229 million, also pointing to lackluster expectations at Apple suppliers. Baird Equity Research trimmed its 2016 iPhone forecast to 234.7 million from 243.8 million, implying 1.5 percent growth over 2015.
As a result, Apple shares are on a downward trend falling 4.4 per cent. The drop in share price or phones is not much, but Apple’s growth depends on people believing that it can pull another rabbit out of a hat. Once that reality distortion field is shattered things could go pear-shaped very quickly.
Most of this is confirmed by Apple’s suppliers who are seeing reduced orders from the fruity cargo-cult. Imagination Technologies said softness in the overall semiconductor industry and smartphone market meant its operating profit would be lower than expected for the rest of its fiscal year.
Dialog Semi also cut its outlook, citing softer-than-expected demand for chips used in mobile phones such as the iPhone.
Morgan Stanley said in a note on Sunday it expects iPhone unit sales to drop 6 percent in the 2016 calendar year as higher prices in markets outside Americas, excluding China, and maturing smartphone penetration in developed markets weigh on upgrades and new user growth.

Leaked China Mobile Roadmap Suggests 4-inch iPhone 7c Releasing in April 2016

Chinese cellular network China Mobile has hinted at an April 2016 release date for Apple’s long rumored 4 inch iPhone, recent reports coming from China claim.

4 inch iPhone 7c launching in April, claims China Mobile:

A 4-inch iPhone has long been in the rumor mill. According to a report from MyDrivers, China Mobile recently held an event to talk about its plans for the next year, including the devices that are expected to be released by the network. China Mobile hinted at the release of a 4 inch iPhone that the carrier reportedly dubbed as “iPhone 7c” to be launched in April 2016.

    Advertisements

The release date falls in line with the previous rumors and leaks that had suggested a Q1 release of the 4 inch iPhone. However, it is highly unlikely for Apple to use the name iPhone 7c before it launches the flagship smartphone of the next year, iPhone 7, later in 2016. Earlier reports had indicated that Apple will name the upcoming 4 inch iPhone, an iPhone 6c.
Rumors coming earlier in the month claimed that Apple will be holding an event in March where the 4 inch iPhone 6c, a second generation Apple Watch and also the iPad Air 3 without 3D Touch technology will be showcased. Apple’s 4 inch iPhone 6c is rumored to feature an aluminum casing like the iPhone 5s with a few color choices. The upcoming smartphone from Apple will be powered by an A9 processing chip and will feature a 2.5D curved edge cover glass. An 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.2-megapixel front shooter, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1 are other expected technical features of the smaller iPhone.
While we can’t be sure what Apple is going to call the 4 inch iPhone, there certainly is something going inside the Cupertino tech giant feeding the rumor mill more than ever before. Luckily, we are only a few months away from March until it all comes to light, or not.

iPhone 7 Rumored to be Waterproof with “Antenna Concealing” Design

New reports coming from Taiwan suggest that Catcher Technology will supply chassis components for the upcoming iPhone 7, helping Apple make them waterproof while concealing their antennas too.

iPhone 7 to be waterproof and with hidden antennas:

iPhone 7 is several months away, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t seeing new rumors and speculations coming our way. According to a report from the Commercial Times, Taiwan-based Catcher Technology will help supply 30 to 35 percent of chassis shipments for the new iPhones. Making it Apple’s largest chassis partner, the frame it will design is rumored to be waterproof. The same report claims that Catcher will be implementing new ways that will help conceal the device’s antenna, using “compound materials” indicating that Apple might be considering to integrate the antennas into the chassis itself.
Market watchers remain optimistic about Taiwan-based Catcher Technology’s operation in 2016 as the metal chassis maker will continue to be supported by its non-Apple clients, and will also remain as the largest chassis supplier for Apple‘s upcoming new iPhone products.
    Advertisements

The upcoming new iPhone products are rumored to be water-proof and use new compound materials to hide the antenna, the paper said, adding Catcher’s supply is expected to account for 30-35% of the new iPhone’s shipments. – DigiTimes.
While earlier reports had claimed that Apple is considering to use non-metal chassis for the iPhone 7 to reduce costs, this is possibly the first time rumors have suggested changes to the antenna implementation in the next-gen Apple smartphone. Apple used 7000-series aluminum for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus mainly due to the complaints surrounding iPhone 6 bending issues. A waterproof design has long been rumored for the iPhones and Apple did introduce more water resistance capabilities in the current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, as compared to their predecessors using an added gasket and silicone seals. The current rumor suggests that Apple is considering a complete waterproof design which would arguably require a complete design change.
A waterproof design has long been in the rumors, but what do you think about this new “antenna concealing” technology? While it’s too early to believe any of these rumors, it’s always interesting to see what, if any, design changes are expected to be part of the upcoming flagship devices.

Apple Has Patented A Way For iPhone Users To Store Data On Cloud Through Fingerprint Recognition

After being the first to incorporate a fingerprint recognition system we all have come to know and love as Touch ID, the tech giant is moving onto creating cloud storage as a much more simplified service that will provide amplified security as well. The company has filed a patent, but the question is, will it be successful?

Is A Cloud Storage Service Through Fingerprint Recognition Is Good Idea From Apple – You Be The Judge

The patent is for ‘Finger Biometric Sensor Data Synchronization VIA A Cloud Computing Device And Related Methods’ and was published by the USPTO on December 17th, 2015. In the images below, you will be able to see how Apple is intending on revolutionizing its cloud storage service by making it relatively easier and all-round secure compared to its rivals ranging from Dropbox, Google’s Google Drive and Microsoft’s OneDrive. This is how the service is going to work, if Apple is ever plans on bringing it forward; fingerprint information is collected, stored on the device it was collected on and uploaded to the cloud, and able to be downloaded and used by a second device.

Apple’s security policy concerning the service has been stated below:
    Advertisements

“The Secure Enclave is walled off from the rest of the chip and the rest of iOS. Therefore, iOS and other apps never access your fingerprint data, it’s never stored on Apple servers, and it’s never backed up to iCloud or anywhere else.”
So is Apple going to be integrating its iCloud storage service with its Touch ID interface? It seems like it, although there is also a possibility that other cloud computing devices and systems may also be used. The patent suggests that the information of any kind to be uploaded to servers will require the user to sign in using their Apple ID, which can also be done through the use of their fingerprint scanner. If Apple Pay can take advantage of this method, then we definitely see no reason why it cannot be used to access content online on the company’s servers.

Since the patent was filed in this month only, we cannot see such a feature appearing in any of the upcoming events hosted by the tech giant. However, in terms of flexibility, we do see this as an easier and secure way of uploading and downloading cloud content. What do you guys think of Apple’s latest patent? Let us know your thoughts.

The iPhone 7 might get an OLED screen, might be a flexible screen too

OLED is one of those technologies that has real-world benefits and merit yet is still very much a marketing term used to help sell more units of a particular device. It's maturing though, and the iPhone has long been rumored to include one, since time immemorial. Now those rumors might actually, finally, turn into reality with the iPhone 7.

The Electronic Times is reporting that a partnership is developing between Samsung, LG and Apple supposedly for the production of flexible displays for the iPhone. Apparently there's already a signed agreement between the three parties for a 2-3 year contract with an influx of 15 trillion Won, or $12.8 billion USD, to ramp up production of the latest in OLED technology.

Perhaps OLED is being chosen so to create, or re-create as is often the case, a flexible product category in a way that's either different or just the same with a different and more zealous audience. Apple has indeed proved that you don't need to be first to have the most sought after product, you just have to bide your time and get it right.

Steve Jobs was never a supporter of OLED and seemed to enjoy using, and improving, more traditional display technologies. The result has been some of the best device displays with more accurate and better reproduction of color, great contrast ratios and the ability to actually accurately display greyscales. In general, because not all metrics are always quite that fantastic, but at least general quality is high among larger samples.

iPhone 7 Plus To Offer Massive Amounts Of Internal Storage And A Much Larger Battery Than Its Predecessors – Rumor

Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus will definitely exceed its predecessors in performance but the latest report from the rumor mill suggests that you might want to hold off on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus purchase if you have not acquired it already it.

iPhone 7 Plus Rumored To Sport 256GB Of Internal Storage As Well As A 3,100mAh Cell

According to a Chinese source, iPhone 7 Plus is going to retain its screen size of 5.5 inches and perhaps its resolution as well, because let’s be honest; having anything above 1080p on a smaller screen is just overkill. While this might be a very good approach maintained by Apple, perhaps the biggest notable difference between iPhone 7 Plus and its predecessor will be its total internal storage and its 3,100mAh battery capacity. Currently, both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have a maximum internal storage of 128GB, which is extremely sufficient, but if you carry a ton of content around with you, then it looks like Apple will cater to your needs when it announces its high-end mobile lineup during September 2016.
So what about the previous storage models? Will they get their storage bumped up? It is hard to say at this moment, although Apple has probably realized that the 16GB of internal storage is far too low to accommodate both apps and software updates so it is highly possible that the tech giant omits this storage variant out of the production chain altogether. That being said, we might get to see the 64GB storage models as the base model. However, while we talk about iPhone 7 Plus, let us not forget its upcoming smaller brother, iPhone 7. Naturally, thanks to the size differences, the latter is going to be sporting a much smaller battery capacity, but what about the internal storage?
    Advertisements

Surely, Apple will cater to the needs of millions of 4.7 inch screen size handset users by giving them some fair treatment, at least in the storage department. For now, we are going to have to take this rumor with a grain of salt and update you more in the future when more leaks follow. Looking at the specifications of iPhone 7 Plus, we are even more excited that 2016 has come this quickly, so let us know what you thought about the latest rumor surrounding the 5.5 inch handset’s internal specifications. We are dying to know.

Leaked iPhone 7 Image Shows Relocated 3D Touch Chip and Flex Cables

As the new year has started, we expect to see a lot more leaks and rumors surrounding the expected flagship smartphones of the year. Samsung’s Galaxy S line and iPhones always take the lead being at the center of the rumor mill. Today, we are looking at some leaked iPhone 7 images that are showing the backlight assembly of the upcoming smartphone.

Leaked iPhone 7 image shows relocated 3D Touch and Flex cables:

Taiwanese website Apple.club.tw has posted a leaked iPhone 7 image of what is reportedly the display backlight of the smartphone. The image looks similar to last year’s iPhone 6s, however, there are some noticeable differences in the placement of the key components of the upcoming flagship. The purported display backlight assembly shows that the 3D Touch chip and LCD flex cables have been relocated on the upcoming handset. However, the website explains that there is no confirmation if this image belongs to an iPhone 7 as it could very well be representing backlight assembly of the 4-inch so-called iPhone 6c, which is slated for a March release.

    iPhone 6s assembly

    Advertisements

    iPhone 7 backlight assembly
Previous rumors had suggested that the smaller iPhone will not carry 3D Touch technology and as mentioned by MacRumors, the size of the backlight assembly and flex cables suggest a device larger than a 4-inch smartphone. These images seem to be fitting more with the iPhone 7 than the smaller iPhone 6c as their size suggests. The Taiwanese website has a considerably fair record of sharing leaks surrounding Apple products. However, it is still only a leak which means it needs to be taken with some usually recommended suspicion.
Earlier rumors suggested that Apple may remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for the favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector. The source of this particular rumor, MacOtakara claimed that Apple might also release Lightning-equipped EarPods to support the future iPhones.
iPhone 7 is expected to be waterproof with an “antenna concealing” design technology. The upcoming smartphone duo is also expected to bring a faster A10 processing chip on-board along with a non-metallic casing and a larger 3,100 mAh battery pack.

Apple may offer wireless Ear Pods instead of a headphone jack

We have been hearing for a while that Apple may be planning to ditch the headphone jack in an effort to make the iPhone 7 even thinner and now, new reports seem to be backing that idea up. According to supply chain sources in China, Apple has officially dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack and will instead expect iPhone buyers to rely on wireless headphones.
This information comes from sources speaking with Chinese site, Anzhou, so do take it all with a grain of salt as nothing is officially confirmed just yet.

Apple won’t force you to pick up your own pair of wireless headphones, though, instead, Apple will apparently be supplying iPhone 7 buyers with a wireless pair of Ear Pods. Right now it is not known if Apple still plans to use the lightning port as a headphone jack for a pair of wired Ear Pods.
The iPhone 7 will launch later on in September this year featuring a redesign over the iPhone 6/6S. However, Apple may also be launching a new C-line iPhone before then with some impressive rumoured specifications.

Apple’s Patent Application Reveals A Dual-Camera System Rumored For iPhone 7

Back in June, we heard that Apple was putting its interests in dual-camera technology in its upcoming devices. Since Apple files a lot of patents, it looks like the dual-camera system is where Apple is putting some serious attention. Moreover, later in 2015, a report surfaced that Apple might implement the dual-camera technology in its forthcoming iPhone 7. Now, the Cupertino based company has yet filed another patent that silhouettes the Apple’s plans for its future devices.

Dual-Camera System Will Maintain Image Resolution While Recording Video

The patent was published by United States Patent and Trademark Office recently, outlining how the dual-camera technology can be implemented with an optical zoom. Behind the lens, Apple plans to install two individual camera modules which would ultimately create a single lens that utilizes a standard section and telephoto. This will allow users to choose a focal length whenever they want. The main objective of this technology would be to capture a zoomed photo without sacrificing the image quality.

Since the launch of iPhone 5, users have been able to take photos while recording a video. However, the image resolution was lower compared to the recorded video. With dual-camera system, users would be able to take a photo while recording video without sacrificing the resolution. Henceforth, it might be of great importance to those who use this feature. Both rear facing cameras would harness maximum resolution, enabling users to capture high resolution photos as well as videos.

    Advertisements

Furthermore, Apple emphasizes on how iMovie could blend the photo and video together automatically into one single file.
[Imagine] capturing a child extinguishing candles on a birthday cake […] In some embodiments, second camera module 3084 can be used as a telephoto camera module to zoom in on the face of the child as she is about to blow out the candles and first camera module 3082 can capture a burst of high resolution still images of her smiling face. In some embodiments, first camera module 3082 is simultaneously capturing standard 1080p 30 frames per second video of the entire group of kids gathered and singing around the cake […] As the two camera modules are synchronized in time, the still images can easily be automatically inserted at the right time in a final video stream.
The editing further heats up with Apple suggesting that the camera would be capable of taking 1080p video, 4K video, slo-mo video and still pictures, all of which can be conjoined together later on. Ultimately, this will allow users to record a standard video and then use the secondary lens to zoom on a specific object to get more details in the frame. Moreover, users would also be able to take a slo-mo video at the very same time.
Apple’s dual-camera technology may revolutionize smartphone cameras in the near future if Apple plans to implement it. Do you guys think the dual-camera system will be implemented in the iPhone 7? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Thinner iPhone 7 to Ditch the 3.5mm Headphone Jack and Bring Wireless Charging

Latest rumor suggests that Apple’s iPhone 7 may ditch the universally standard 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of the Lightning port while affirming earlier speculations of a thinner waterproof body.

Thinner iPhone 7 to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack:

According to a new report, Apple is working on a thinner waterproof body for iPhone 7 with no headphone jack. Apple is reportedly working with Cirrus Logic to design the audio chipset in the iPhone to work with the Lightning port which will be used to transmit sound to wired headphones. Used for charging, this will make the port even more capable than what it currently is. The report further says that the audio chip used in Apple’s next flagship will utilize noise-cancelling technology from Wolfson Microelectronics to remove background noise.
The source suggests that Apple is also working on noise-cancelling headphones which will not be part of the box. Instead, iPhone 7 owners will have to buy these separately from Apple, suggesting that Apple is working on new Lightning connected earpods, possibly branded under Beats, that might be released alongside iPhone 7.

Numerous third-party headphone makers will use the technology in their own Lightning-compatible headphones, our source says, and they’ll have to buy a license to use the audio processing technology.
Coming to confirm several previous rumors on the similar lines, the Fast Company citing a source with “knowledge of the company’s plans” reports that iPhone 7 will be thinner than the iPhone 6s and “very likely” will be made waterproof. Earlier rumors had suggested a waterproof, non-aluminum iPhone 7 body with an antenna concealing design.
Apart from these, the report also claims that wireless charging might make its debut on the iPhone 7. Apple has been exploring the technology for a long time now, but according to the report, it didn’t work out in the previous two editions of the iPhone. While iPhone 7 may bring the wireless charging on board, it’s not known if Apple is working on some proprietary technology or if existing wireless charging devices will work with the upcoming device.
Many users thought that a single port for data and charging is inconvenient and also a security risk when Apple introduced the Lightning port with 12-inch MacBook earlier last year. What do you think of Apple adding a third task to the port?

Apple Considering Three Different Designs for iPhone 7 – Wireless Beats Expected too

Several rumors around Apple’s iPhone 7 have talked about the company dropping the standard 3.5mm audio jack for the favor of Lightning port. We saw another rumor yesterday, which detailed Apple’s plans to introduce new, wireless earpods. A new report has further confirmed these speculations, giving us more details of this expected release.

Completely wireless earpods to launch with iPhone 7:

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is working on cord-free earbuds launching them under the Beats brand. As reported yesterday,
Apple is also working on noise-cancelling headphones which will not be part of the box. Instead, iPhone 7 owners will have to buy these separately from Apple, suggesting that Apple is working on new Lightning connected earpods, possibly branded under Beats, that might be released along iPhone 7.
The latest information suggests that the wireless earpods will indeed be launched alongside iPhone 7, however, they will be sold separately. These new Apple-Beats earpods will be completely wireless, and possibly designed similar to Bragi’s new Dash earphones. Apple’s Bluetooth earpods will also have “a noise-cancelling microphone system, enabling phone calls and communication with Siri even without Apple’s prior in-line microphone and remote. In order to fit inside of the user’s ear, Apple will likely develop different sized ear sleeves for the hardware, similar to the approach used by Motorola and Bragi.”

Apple has apparently included the ability for headphone to connect over Lightning in iOS since 2014, making it a strong possibility for the next-gen iPhone finally ditching the standard jack. While the regular headphones bundled with iPhone 7 may or may not use the Lightning port, these new completely wireless and premium earpods will be sold separately and won’t be any cheap. Since there is a close expected resemblance to Bragi Dash, which sells for $299, Apple is expected to price its own alternative even higher. The report details that the headphones won’t have a port for charging. Apple will include a charging case that the owner will set the earpods into for charging them. Compared to Bragi’s 3-hour battery life, Apple is looking at a 4-hour usage for one full charge.
The report ends with an interesting bit about the design of iPhone 7 itself. Apparently, Apple is working on three different designs for its upcoming flagship and hasn’t yet finalized any. One of these designs includes a completely new and thinner look (possibly the waterproof, antenna-concealing?) while another is a “backup design” looking “substantially” like the iPhone 6s.
So far our readers haven’t liked the idea of Apple dropping the standard headphone jack. Let us know your thoughts about a newly designed and thinner iPhone 7 with the Lightning port supporting audio.

Over 200,000 people sign petition to stop Apple removing headphone jack

Right now, the rumour going around that Apple has decided to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 is picking up a lot of steam. While nothing has been confirmed, anonymous ‘supply chain’ sources have claimed that in an effort to make the iPhone 7 even thinner, the headphone jack will be going away and it turns out that a lot of people don’t want that to happen.
At the time of writing, 227,839 people have signed a petition to try and get Apple to change its mind about ditching the headphone jack though it might be too late at this point.

However, despite news that Apple could ditch the headphone jack, we have also heard reports that Apple intends to create Wireless Ear Pods, as well as headphones that connect via the lightning port. Neither option is ideal, as using the lightning port for headphones will stop you from charging the device, while using Wireless Ear Pods will stop you from listening to music in Airplane mode.
Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about the iPhone 7 yet and has not spoken out about the petition going around.

Apple Engineering Wireless Beats Earbuds For iPhone 7 To Counteract Abandoned Headphone Jack

Rumor has it Apple is abandoning the standard 3.5mm headphone jack on its next iPhone models, presumably the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. In its place Apple reportedly plans to bundle a set of earphones that will plug into the iPhone 7's Lightening port called EarPods. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, Apple might also offer a set of Bluetooth headphones.

Keeping in mind that nothing is yet official, there's suspicion that Apple may have used a shell company called Entertainment in Flight LLC to apply for the "AirPods" trademark several months ago. That would be a fitting name for a pair of wireless earbuds, one that will likely be sold separately rather than bundled with the iPhone 7.

    image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages..._Earphones.jpg

Tired of wireless earphones? Apple may sell separately a pair of Bluetooth "AirPods" alongside its iPhone 7

It makes sense that Apple would want to dabble in audio hardware. After all, it paid a hefty sum for Beats Electronics, so why not put its acquired resources to use outside of the streaming space? If rumors are to be believed, Apple's doing exactly that as it tests a prototype set of AirPods.

The AirPods are said to be 100 percent wireless, meaning there's not even a cable that connects the left and right earbuds to one another. Apple will probably use a sleeve system to ensure a general fit into different size ears. You can also expect the AirPods to wield a noise-cancelling microphone for answering calls and barking commands at Siri.

It's not known what kind of battery life the AirPods will offer, though when it comes time to recharge them, it's said an included carrying case will double as a rechargeable battery.
