Sinceramente uso o Defender e chega-me bem. Também não ando em grandes aventuras por sites desconhecidos da net a sacar todos os ficheiros e mais alguns, logo ai corta-se a maior parte do mal...

Microsoft Reaches an Agreement to Acquire Revolution Analytics

To understand what Revolution Analytics is, you first need to know what the term Big Data implies. Big Data means any amount of data which is soo large and complex that it is difficult to sort it in to meaningful data. If you can’t think of any sch amount of data that is virtually impossible for humans to handle lets take an example. The data uploaded on any social networking site is soo big and complex that it is hard to sort it into different meaningful chunks, mostly because of it’s complexity as it basically includes different types and not only just words, there are pictures, videos, music and audio files etcetera.

    What is Revolution Analytics

Now, moving on, Revolution Analytics is a statistical software company which provides versions of the free and open source software R (which is a programming language for statistical computing and graphics) for its customers. Founded in 2007, Revolution Analytics was providing support and services for R in different models just like the Revolution R Enterprise software which is very popular across the globe for big data analysis.
“R” is world’s most widely used statistics programming language and is used by scientists and a wide range of the online community. It is taught in universities as a programming language and has a huge role in financial analytics. “Revolution R” is an enhanced version of R by Revolution Analytics, which is used commonly for analytics deployment including desktop and server based processing to parallelized processing or in-database deployment in data warehouses.

    Microsoft Acquires Revolution Analytics

Microsoft has announced the acquisition on the Official Microsoft Blog where they claimed that this acquisition was performed to give better value to the customer and not only profit purposes. Microsof explained their decision on their official blog by saying “As their volumes of data continually grow, organizations of all kinds around the world – financial, manufacturing, health care, retail, research – need powerful analytical models to make data-driven decisions. This requires high performance computation that is “close” to the data, and scales with the business’ needs over time. At the same time, companies need to reduce the data science and analytics skills gap inside their organizations, so more employees can use and benefit from R. This acquisition is part of our effort to address these customer needs.
They further added that they were making this acquisition to “help more companies use the power of R and data science to unlock big data insights with advanced analytics.” Revolution Analytics is the host to many of the top customers including some of the world’s largest banks and financial services organizations, pharmaceutical companies, consulting services organizations, manufacturing and technology companies. Microsoft has taken a big step forward through this acquisition as this marks the beginning of a revolution in information technology driven by the use of statistics and scientific analyses on big data as Microsoft will make sure that it invests the needed amount of money to make sure the company does better than ever.

Microsoft's Build conference sold out in one hour

Tickets for Microsoft's annual developers conference were gone almost as soon as they went up today, selling out in just an hour. By comparison, it took a whole 24 hours for tickets to last year's show to get snapped up. The conference, which takes place in San Francisco on April 29th through May 1st, costs $2,095 to attend, though Microsoft also sells lower cost tickets to students. Now that tickets are gone, Microsoft's opened up a waitlist.
Last year's show sold out in 24 hours At last year's Build, Microsoft spent three hours of its keynote detailing Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, along with debuting its voice assistant Cortana, who is headed to Windows 10. It also announced the Lumia 930 phone, universal Windows apps, and its revamped version of Office for Windows machines with touchscreens.
Microsoft said yesterday that this year's conference should be a big one, with more details of Windows 10. The company showed off new consumer features of the upcoming OS (which will be a free update to Windows 7 and 8.1 users), as well as its HoloLens augmented reality device.
The quick sellout has become commonplace for these developer conferences, so much so that Apple and Google have had to set up ticket lotteries so as to avoid their websites being crushed and to make it fair for people in awkward timezones. Both companies, as well as Microsoft, have balanced that by trying to stream all the sessions as they're happening.

Finally The Fate of Illumiroom is Revealed by Microsoft

Illumiroom was a technology under research show by Microsoft that used kinect and the sensors present within it to extend the screen of one’s T.V. while using the Xbox One console. It basically projected a part of the game behind the console and used the walls to enhance the gaming experience for the user. The way the technology worked was by first analysing the room using the sensors present in kinect and accordingly program the projectors to bring one-of-a-kind experience to the player.

The technology was first revealed as patented in September last year when Microsoft was quite enthusiastic about it claiming that “IllumiRoom is a proof-of-concept Microsoft Research project designed to push the boundary of living room immersive entertainment by blending our virtual and physical worlds with projected visualizations.”
While adding further that the proof of the concept “uses a Kinect for Windows camera and a projector to blur the lines between on-screen content and the environment we live in allowing us to combine our virtual and physical worlds. For example, our system can change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.”

Microsoft reports FY15 Q2 results, generated $26.5 billion in revenue

Microsoft has reported its earnings for its second fiscal quarter of 2015 ending on December 31. Overall, the company brought in a total of $26.5 billion in revenue. That's compared to $24.5 billion in revenue from the same period a year ago.
Net income for the tech giant clocked in at $5.86 billion, compared to $6.55 billion for the same quarter a year ago. Earning per share came in at 71 cents, with Microsoft adding:
These financial results include $243 million of integration and restructuring expenses, or a $0.02 per share negative impact, related to both Microsoft's restructuring plan announced in July 2014 and the ongoing integration of the Nokia Devices and Services ("NDS") business. There is also a $0.04 per share negative impact related to income tax expense resulting from an IRS audit adjustment.
Microsoft says that devices and consumer (the groups that contain Surface and Bing) revenue shot up by 8 percent to $12.9 billion. Here are some of the highlights:

    • Surface revenue of $1.1 billion, up 24%, driven by Surface Pro 3 and accessories
    • Office 365 Home and Personal subscribers increased to over 9.2 million, up 30% sequentially over prior quarter
    • Search advertising revenue grew 23%, with Bing U.S. market share at 19.7%, up 150 basis points over prior year
    • Xbox console sales totaled 6.6 million units, with strong holiday season performance
    • Phone Hardware revenue of $2.3 billion, with 10.5 million Lumia units sold driven by growth in affordable smartphones
    • Windows OEM Pro revenue declined 13%; revenue was impacted by the business PC market and Pro mix returning to pre-Windows XP end of support levels and by new lower-priced licenses for devices sold to academic customers
    • Windows OEM non-Pro revenue declined 13%, with license growth from opening price point devices
Additionally, the company reports that "commercial revenue grew 5 percent to $13.3 billion," driven by the following highlights:

    • Commercial cloud revenue grew 114% driven by Office 365, Azure and Dynamic CRM Online, and is now on an annualized revenue run rate of $5.5 billion
    • Office Commercial products and services revenue declined 1%; transactional revenue was impacted by the continued transition to Office 365 and declines in commercial PCs following the XP refresh cycle
    • Server products and services revenue grew 9%, with double-digit growth of SQL Server and System Center
    • Windows volume licensing revenue increased by 3%, with annuity revenue growth partially offset by declining transactional revenue
Perhaps some of the biggest news to come out of the report is that we finally have exact numbers that show Xbox One sales garnered a significant boost thanks to Microsoft's holiday promotion. 6.6 million units is certainly nothing to scoff at, however, the holiday price cut did take its toll, with Xbox platform revenue dropping by 20 percent.
On the Windows Phone side of things, Lumia devices saw quite the surge, with 10.5 million units sold in the second quarter alone, with most sales coming from the budget side of things. Overall, Windows Phone sales were up by volume, though revenue declined 61 percent on paper mostly due to a $650 million charge related to the Nokia acquisition.
Finally, on the services side of things, Microsoft reported strong growth from gaming and consumer services. For example, Microsoft saw a surge in revenue of 42 percent from Xbox Live and and 79 percent from first-party game sales. As far as consumer services are concerned, the company saw its Office 365 user base increase 30 percent over the previous quarter, while its search advertising revenue shot up by 23 percent.

Bill Gates teases top-secret 'Personal Agent' project he's working on with Microsoft

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently hosted his third Ask Me Anything session on Reddit. Among the mix of serious and semi-serious questions, Gates provided some details about an unknown project that he is currently working on with Microsoft called Personal Agent.
Gates said the Personal Agent will remember everything and help you go back and find things and help you pick what things to pay attention to. The idea that you have to find applications and pick them and they each are trying to tell you what is new, he noted, is just not an efficient model. The Agent will help solve this and it’ll work across all devices.
The admission came in response to a question about the future of technology. Specifically, what he thinks the next 30 years hold in terms of technology.

The answer to that question, if you’re wondering, is that there will be more progress in the next 30 years than ever before. Even in the next 10 years, we will have mastered problems like vision and speech understanding and translation. Once computers / robots get to a level of capability where seeing and moving is easy for them, he added, they will be used extensively.
Some speculated that the Agent is Cortana but that seems unlikely considering it has already been announced and is called Cortana, not Personal Agent. Perhaps maybe it’s an add-on to Cortana?
Personal Agent sounds like some sort of software aggregator that's able to communicate with all of your apps and pull relevant data from each one instead of you manually having to open each app to access the data. Any guesses?
