    Boa tarde,

    Cumprimentos.

    Bom dia,

Espera ai... A MS faz Adware? Lol!!!

Microsoft’s Racist AI is Back And It’s Still Crazy!

Remember that crazy TayTweets AI that Microsoft unleashed on the (mostly) innocent users of Twitter recently? The one that quickly pick up the bad habits of many online pranksters, turning it into a genocide-denying Nazi lover? Yes, that one. Twitter users be warned, it’s back!
Microsoft pulled the AI after it descended into madness last week, taking the time to re-tool their learning experiment and trying again. Unfortunately, it’s not really worked this time either, as in true-to-form style it wasn’t long before it because a drug smoking police hater.
While Microsoft were previously tweaking the timeline to remove the most offensive posts, while also vowing to only bring the AI back if they could “better anticipate malicious intent that conflicts with our principles and values.” It’s clear that there’s still a lot of work to be done. Of course, that’s the whole point of these experiments, and I’m sure they’re not out of ideas yet.

Microsoft's sexist racist Twitter bot @TayandYou is BACK in fine form

Drug smoking references aside, @TayTweets seemed to then descend into a total meltdown, spamming everyone with the same message over and over. The end result being Microsoft setting the profile to private, effectively taking her offline again.

Personally, I can’t wait to see what happens next, more entertaining madness, or a successful AI test, either would be worth watching unfold.

    Microsoft Showcases Image-Captioning Captionbot

Have any of you guys tried out Microsoft's Captionbot yet? According to the website, it was created to showcase some of the new capabilities of Microsoft Cognitive Services. Captionbot says it uses Computer Vision and Natural Language to describe contents of images and that sometimes it "gets things wrong." Here's an example of Captionbot getting things wrong...that's John Romero and I at E3 a while back:

    Microsoft Patents A Smart Ring

Microsoft is known for working on cutting edge technology, with the technology used in the Kinect becoming a dream piece that was quickly built and mirrored in other gadgets and systems. The next piece of technology they want you using? How about something to go with your smart phone, a smart ring.
Back in November and December, Microsoft patented the designs for a smart ring, a device that would look and feel like a ring but would give you control of your devices as if it was a mouse. The smart ring would detect your fingers movements, acting almost as if you were using a touchscreen in thin air, and thought the use of a small laser, could even detect the position and movement of the finger. Felt like clicking a table and opening your family photos? Look no further!
With both the fingers movement and pose being tracked the input device could be used for anything from a smartphone to a desktop PC, with the complete control of your system (and sorry for saying this) at your fingertips.
The device is patented as working with several other components, from tablets, TV’s, Kinect’s and even smart glasses and smart watches. You’ve got the display in your glasses so why not touch it in thin air?
Are you excited by this concept? I am, imagine being able to control your computer at work like Iron Man with a flick of the wrist, this would also avoid the large motion and input detecting systems that many AR (augmented reality) headsets are having to mount to give you the full Iron Man experience.

    Microsoft announces Azure blockchain partnership

Microsoft has announced a partnership with R3 CEV to bring blockchain technology to Azure, even as it drops support for Bitcoin payments in the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has thrown its hat in the blockchain ring, partnering with R3 CEV to offer banks the ability to work with the technology behind the Bitcoin cryptocurrency on the Azure cloud platform.

Bitcoin shot to fame as a something-from-nothing story when the value of the cryptocurrency, created as users spend computational power to 'mine' the coins by generating hashes and verifying transactions on the underlying blockchain, went from fractions of a cent to hundreds of dollars. Bitcoin itself remains volatile, however, and companies are increasingly looking to the underlying blockchain technology rather than the Bitcoin implementation itself as having the most value - using it for everything from electronic signatures on documents to creating novel cryptocurrencies of their own.

The blockchain market its proponents claim is due to explode, and it's no surprise then to find Microsoft dipping its toes in the water with a partnership that will see R3 CEV, a consortium of major banks, using Microsoft's Azure cloud platform to deploy blockchain technologies.

'Known by many as the backbone of Bitcoin, blockchain offers a secure and transparent way to digitally track the ownership of assets. Simply put, it promises to revolutionise the way financial institutions conduct transactions,' crowed Microsoft's Peggy Johnson of the deal. 'Blockchain modernises legacy financial processes, so trades of assets like stocks and bonds can be finalized in minutes, not days. And by enabling a more direct transfer of ownership, it eliminates the need for middlemen like clearing houses, both cutting costs and greatly reducing the risk of fraud.'

The partnership with R3 CEV comes as confidence in Bitcoin itself takes a dip, with Microsoft dropping support for Bitcoin payments on the Microsoft Store just over a year after introducing the capability via Bitpay.

Microsoft Patches Severe Account Hijacking Security Flaw

Within 48 hours after being reported, Microsoft has issued a patch for a vulnerability exposing user accounts to hijacking. The flaw, which allowed attackers to use harvested login tokens, was reported by a security researcher on a Sunday and a fix was issued by Microsoft that Tuesday.

According to British security researcher Jack Whitton, the vulnerability could be exploited through phishing websites designed to harvest login tokens to later compromise user accounts and data. In a blog post on Monday, the researcher said manipulating POST values could be used in attacks which impersonate users of Microsoft products.

Facebook And Microsoft Confirm They Have No Gender Pay Gap

Good news for all you ladies out there! Facebook and Microsoft have joined Intel, Amazon and Apple in closing the gender pay gap. It makes you wonder if Microsoft just walked around handing out raises to the ladies or docked all the dudes. Also, it's kinda suspicious that this news comes on Equal Pay Day.

At this point, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Intel say that they now pay men and women equally. However, all those companies are still well behind other industries on overall employment diversity for female and minority workers, especially in the executive suite. If they follow Twitter's lead in the boardroom, however, the news might be better next year.

Microsoft VP resigns to become President of Wizards of the Coast

Microsoft Vice President, OEM Technical Sales Chris Cocks has resigned from his position to take the helm at gaming company Wizards of the Coast, where he now serves as President, replacing Greg Leeds. Cocks previously worked at Procter & Gamble, Xbox, MSN, and Leapfrog.

Wizards is best known for its Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) properties. The former is gaining a particular lot of attention with this move, as Wizards has already confirmed a "new digital platform" for MTG (presumably replacing the current MTG Online client), and has posted job ads for Magic Digital asking for developers with Unity experience, so it looks like the new client will be built with the excellent Unity engine (which powers the ever-popular Hearthstone). In turn, this means it's likely to finally make it to mobile and Mac, as Unity is cross-platform.

"We're very excited to welcome Chris to the Wizards of the Coast family," said John Frascotti, President, Hasbro Brands. "As an avid fan and player [of MTG and D&D] with extensive digital experience, I'm confident Chris is the right person to help us build on the tremendous momentum around our brands and take the franchise to the next level by delivering exciting new experiences to our growing and passionate fan base around the world."

Microsoft Sues the U.S. Gov – Doesn’t Want to Stay Silent Over Secret Data Orders

Following Apple’s legal battle with the FBI, Microsoft has now become one of the latest tech companies to go against the US government. The tech giant wants to be more transparent about the data requests it receives from the US federal government and says that the demands of secrecy have gone too far.

“Keeping secrecy the exception, not the rule,” Microsoft

Microsoft has filed a lawsuit today in the US District Court in Seattle, suing the US Justice Department, targeting Section 2705(b) of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. This Act allows the government to obtain secrecy orders preventing companies from letting their customers know when their data is the target of a federal warrant. The filed lawsuit claims that the government has violated the First and the Fourth Amendments by ordering Microsoft to keep thousands of data requests secret, many of them indefinitely.
The company argues that while secrecy may be needed in some cases, it has become a “routine for the U.S. government to issue orders that require email providers to keep these types of legal demands secret.”
This statute violates both the Fourth Amendment, which affords people and businesses the right to know if the government searches or seizes their property, and the First Amendment, which enshrines Microsoft’s rights to talk to its customers and to discuss how the government conducts its investigations—subject only to restraints narrowly tailored to serve compelling government interests.
People do not give up their rights when they move their private information from physical storage to the cloud. Microsoft therefore asks the Court to declare that Section 2705(b) is unconstitutional on its face.
    Advertisements
Microsoft’s President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith said in a blog post:
Over the past 18 months, the U.S. government has required that we maintain secrecy regarding 2,576 legal demands, effectively silencing Microsoft from speaking to customers about warrants or other legal process seeking their data. Notably and even surprisingly, 1,752 of these secrecy orders, or 68 percent of the total, contained no fixed end date at all. This means that we effectively are prohibited forever from telling our customers that the government has obtained their data.
We believe these actions violate two of the fundamental rights that have been part of this country since its founding. These lengthy and even permanent secrecy orders violate the Fourth Amendment, which gives people and businesses the right to know if the government searches or seizes their property. They also violate the First Amendment, which guarantees our right to talk to customers about how government action is affecting their data. The constitutional right to free speech is subject only to restraints narrowly tailored to serve compelling governmental interests, a standard that is neither required by the statute being applied nor met by the government in practice here.
Microsoft recently announced that the US Department of Justice will upgrade its 4 million machines to Windows 10, giving a vote of confidence to the newly released operating system. While the US government is a long-term customer of the tech titan, this is not the first time they are having an argument over data access or secrecy orders. Another legal case is currently ongoing over the government’s attempts to access a non-US citizen’s data stored on a server in Ireland. Microsoft says the government’s authority to demand secrecy about the data requests is unconstitutionally broad.
We will update this story as more details come forward, and when the Justice Department responds to this lawsuit.

Microsoft is suing the US government over cloud data searches

Microsoft is set to take on the US Justice Department in court claiming that it is “unconstitutional” to stop a company from informing its customers when their cloud data is being searched by the authorities. Microsoft’s stance is that a customer has the right to know when a government obtains a warrant to search their data but the government gets around this with secrecy orders.
In a complaint filed at a Washington District Court (via The Verge), Microsoft has said: “Microsoft brings this case because its customers have a right to know when the government obtains a warrant to read their emails, and because Microsoft has a right to tell them. As Microsoft’s customers increasingly store their most private and sensitive information in the cloud, the government increasingly seeks (and obtains) secrecy orders.”

According to the filing, over the last eighteen months, federal courts have issued out 2600 secrecy orders to Microsoft, stopping them from speaking out about warrants and the amount of customer data being accessed. Between September 2014 and March 2016, Microsoft had also received 5624 demands for access to customer data.
“The vast majority of these secrecy orders related to consumer accounts and prevent Microsoft from telling affected individuals about the government’s intrusion into their personal affairs; others prevent Microsoft from telling business customers that the government has searched and seized the emails of individual employees of the customer.”

Microsoft Says Secret Data Requests Are Now The Norm, Sues U.S. Government

Microsoft filed a lawsuit in a federal court against the U.S. government over its expanding use of gag orders for data requests. The company said that almost half of the data requests are secret, with more than two thirds of the gag orders having no time limit for expiration, meaning the users would never be notified about them. Microsoft, which is now a major cloud services provider, has become increasingly worried at how many of the data requests from the U.S. government are accompanied by gag orders. Once a gag order is served, the company can no longer notify its users about the warrants it received for their data.
The company believes that the U.S. government is using the increasing popularity of cloud services as a way to skirt around the Fourth Amendment, which gives people the right to know when the government searches or seizes their property. Microsoft also believes that these gag orders violate the First Amendment, which guarantees the company the right to talk to its customers.
Evolution Of Data Storage (And The Degradation Of Privacy Rights)

In the past, individuals and businesses would keep their information in documents stored in file cabinets and desk drawers on local premises. That data then transitioned to being stored on local computers and servers, but it remained within a user’s physical possession and control. In both of those eras, the government had to notify the user or the company when it needed access to that data, and then it would serve them a warrant.
Now, more and more personal data is stored in the “cloud,” or on other companies’ servers, because that’s how the world evolved to allow people access to their data from wherever they may be. However, Microsoft believes that people still have the same expectations of privacy, even if the government can technically now take that data whenever it wishes, without notifying its customers.
Microsoft also said that businesses that are its cloud customers routinely tell it that they want to be notified about government requests so that their own lawyers can take a look at the legal requests and then decide whether or not they have to turn over the data.
Microsoft has argued before that law enforcement everywhere, including in the European Union, should go directly to its enterprise customers to obtain their data. However, the company is only now making the argument that individuals should be notified, as well.
As discussed in a previous post about the new Email Privacy Act (EPA), it shouldn’t matter that it’s now easier for governments to avoid telling individuals when their data is requested, just because that data is stored somewhere else.
That data is theirs and therefore they should be notified when the government has access to it. However, the Email Privacy Act has so far made the compromise to remove the initial rule that would’ve required the government to give notice to users. That may still change if Microsoft wins this lawsuit by the time the bill reaches the Senate, where it could be amended.
    Microsoft’s Solution

Microsoft hopes that regardless of how the lawsuit continues, the Department of Justice should immediately issue a new policy that restricts these out-of-control gag orders from law enforcement.
If that doesn’t happen, then the company wishes Congress would amend the Electronic Communications Protection Act (likely through the new EPA reform) to require government notice for warrants. Microsoft also said that the current ECPA allows the government to issue more secret orders than it would be able to serve under other laws.
If Congress amends the law, then the company hopes it follows three principles:
-Transparency: People have the right to know when the company storing their information has been sent a legal request for their data. The companies themselves should also have the right to tell their customers when a request was served.
-Digital neutrality: Customers should benefit from the same type of privacy protections in the online world as they do in the offline world.
-Necessity: Secrecy orders should be adapted to only what’s necessary for an investigation. If there’s a good reason for the secrecy to continue, then that order could be extended based on necessity.
    Microsoft’s Lawsuits Against U.S. Government

Microsoft also noted that although this is the fourth lawsuit it has filed against the U.S. government to protect its customers’ privacy, it hasn’t taken this action lightly, and it has only done so when it considered the government's requests to be out-of-bounds.
In the first lawsuit, Microsoft settled with the U.S. government, allowing the company to disclose how many data requests it receives. The second one was because of a government-issued National Security Letter, which the government ended up withdrawing. The U.S. government has a tendency to withdraw its NSLs when challenged, likely there's a potential issue of unconstitutionality. It would prefer to lose a case by withdrawing an NSL, but continue to issue NSLs to other companies or individuals unwilling to challenge them in Court.
The third lawsuit is the one where Microsoft challenged a U.S. search warrant for an email of a customer from Ireland. This lawsuit is still pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Microsoft filed this fourth one in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

Microsoft files suit against US government over customer data request gags

Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department in Seattle’s district court, setting the stage for what’s likely to become yet another high-profile confrontation between the US government and a technology giant.
In the suit, Microsoft said it received 5,624 legal demands for user information over the past 18 months. The problem, as Microsoft sees it, is that nearly half of those requests – 2,576, to be exact – were accompanied by gag orders that prevent them from telling users that the government is looking at their personal data.
What’s more, 1,752 data requests had no time limit meaning Microsoft would seemingly need to hand over user data indefinitely without ever informing the user.
In a post on Microsoft’s blog, Brad Smith, President and Chief Legal Officer, said they believe that with rare exceptions, consumers and businesses have a right to know when the government accesses their e-mails or records.
To clarify, Smith said, Microsoft appreciates that there are times when secrecy around a government warrant is needed. For example, such is the case when disclosure would create a real risk of harm to another individual or when disclosure would give someone time to destroy evidence to thwart an investigation.
Given the sheer number of orders Microsoft has fielded, however, Smith said they question whether they are grounded in specific facts that truly demand secrecy or if the issuance of secrecy orders has simply become too routine.

Xcloud, o próximo serviço da Microsoft baseado em gaming por streaming.
Não me admira nada que a próxima consola seja um produto a condizer com isto e ainda uma outra com o formato que conhecemos
